Question from SCP FOUNDATION official (15:23, 2 November 2023)

hi please teach me where to edit and how to edit -- SCP FOUNDATION official ( talk) 15:23, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

What is the SCP foundation? You sound like you are editing on behalf of a company. Secretlondon ( talk) 17:41, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
An online fictional paranormal organization, see SCP Foundation. – LaundryPizza03 ( d ) 21:25, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi SCP FOUNDATION official. The first thing I suggest you do is read WP:CORPNAME since your choice of a username doesn't seem to comply with Wikipedia's username policy because usernames that appear to represent companies or organizations are not allowed. The longer you leave your username as is, the greater the chance that your account might be WP:SOFTBLOCKed by a Wikipedia administrator for violating the above-mentioned policy. Once you've sorted out your username, you can find out more about how you can contribute (i.e. edit) to Wikipedia by looking at WP:CONTRIBUTE. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 00:16, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from RMP14 (00:41, 5 November 2023)

Hi there, I have recently set up a company and it will be launching it's first product very soon. The product is an adaptation of an existing product, however, so there isn't any readily available sources that can be used to confirm the existence of my product. The description I have created of the product has various links to existing, well-established Wikipedia pages. I would like to create a Wikipedia page detailing exactly what this product is, what it does, how it works, etc. and also upload the trademarked image of the company logo for which I own the licence.

I am being told that I have to "make 10 edits" in order to do this. Please advise me on how I can initiate this process.

Thanks -- RMP14 ( talk) 00:41, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi RMP14. I suggest you take a look at Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything, Wikipedia:Ownership of content, Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) and Wikipedia:Notability (products) for some general information that seems to apply the situation you described above. In order for a Wikipedia article about either your company or your product to avoid being deleted, it will need to be established that either of the two clearly meets one of Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Moreover, any such article wouldn't be owned by you in the sense that you'd have any sort of final editorial control over its content and you wouldn't be able to use the article to promote either your company or your product in any way. You yourself, anyone representing you and anyone representing your company would, in fact, be subject to some pretty heavy restrictions when it comes to editing anything about your company or your product as explained here and would be expected to not directly edit the article at all once it has been created. If after reading the pages above, you feel that either your company or your product is Wikipedia notable and you would like to try and write an article about it, you're going to need to follow the instructions in Wikipedia: Articles for creation (AfC) and create a draft. Once you feel the draft is ready, you can submit it for review and an AfC reviewer will assess it to determine whether it meets Wikipedia's basic notability guidelines. If it does, the reviewer will approve the draft as an article; if it doesn't, the reviewer will decline the draft and leave comments explaining why. At that point, you can decide what you want to do next. If after reading all of this, you decide that Wikipedia has too many restrictions to suit your purposes, you might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Alternative outlets to see if something else might work better for you. Finally, images like logos need to comply with Wikipedia:Image use policy and Wikipedia:Copyright#Guidelines for images and other media files. Images, however, play no part in assessing Wikipedia notability of something and aren't a requirement for an article to be created. So, I suggest you worry about figuring out whether a viable Wikipedia article about your company or product can be created and survive deletion and only then start worrying about images. I will add a welcome template to your user talk page that contains more information for reference. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 01:09, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Regarding User:Thriftycat/Sterling, Massachusetts

Thanks for removing the categories from my userspace draft. I just copypasted the entire article. Looking back, I realize that I should have been more careful Thriftycat TalkContribs 14:11, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi Thriftycat. Such a thing isn't a major error and typically happens when users copy and paste entire articles into their user namespace. As long as you don't start re-adding/re-enabling such categories when after they've been removed/disabled, you should be fine. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 00:17, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
