Thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure why I never noticed that myself. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 00:27, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Non-free file image deletion

Hi, I've noticed you've marked a number of files of persons I have uploaded for speedy deletion, given the lack of availability of CC files for persons and key figures located within mainland China, due to the nature of licensing and agent licensing of content in China, I would appreciate if you could extend the deadline for deletion in order to allow me to fix these issues instead of simply deleting the files for which I have uploaded.

I've noticed the post you've made on my talk page here: /info/en/?search=User_talk:Foxhunt38, and while I understand photos of living persons are not allowed, please understand that due to the nature of copyright in China and highly restricted nature of some key Chinese political figures and others, finding a CC file or taking a personally produced photo of such persons is unrealistic or extremely difficult. Further finding the photos aforementioned was extremely difficult along with the necessary and appropriate referencing, therefore I would appreciate if you could give some additional guidance on how to resolve these issues before simply deleting the files. Many Chinese celebrities and politicians lack portraits and photographs on Wikipedia which I believe shows a lack of respect for the subject matter while their Western counterparts enjoy the opposite. Use of their photo for purposes of identification should not be restricted simply because of inability to find a CC licensed file. I simply do not understand why Western celebrities and politicians many of which are alive have portraits and photographs on Wikipedia while their Chinese counterparts do not, given the increasing importance of China as a country I believe it would be beneficial for the generaly public's understanding of some of these people and the country if there was a picture to the face so to speak.

Sincerely.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Foxhunt38 ( talkcontribs) 11:17, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

The files you uploaded are a clear violation of Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. This policy applies to all non-free images uploaded to Wikipedia regardless of their country of origin, and there are plenty of articles about still living non-Chinese living persons which do not have an image since a freely licensed one has yet to be found or created; moreover, the default in cases like this is not to use a non-free image until a free equivalent image can be found. However, if you feel that some type of exemption to this policy should be granted to non-free images of living Chinese persons for the reasons you stated above, then you're free to request such a thing be granted at WT:NFCC. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 11:54, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
