thanks about fixing photo error

Hi, thanks for calling for help by posting at wt:NRHP#Charles A. Miller House. Completely fixing the whole situation was more complicated than initially understood, so your posting there was helpful in reaching a bigger community to get it all done. -- Doncram ( talk) 17:23, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

Georgina Long / Richard Scolyer edits

Hello Thank you for your guidance After looking at your feedback, and based on the fact that I work for the same organisation as Georgina and Richard, can you confirm that the best way to update their page is for me to: 1. propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (use the request edit template) - including citations which are not our company website 2. make my affiliation clear 3. provide evidence of ownership of images

Please confirm this is best approach Many thanks Mia Varley ( talk) 09:18, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

Francis Thompson

I've been editing this page and just saw a message saying I need to fix things. I'm very new to this and somehow the links got me to you. Are you able to help? I have gotten a few specific questions answered via the Teahouse but I think I need more comprehensive instruction. Here's the page: /info/en/?search=Francis_Thompson_(film_director) There's now an "multiple issues" box at the top: "This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it or discuss these issues on the talk page. (Learn how and when to remove these template messages) This article should be divided into sections by topic, to make it more accessible. (January 2021) A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. (January 2021) This article needs additional citations for verification. (January 2021)"

1) I need to learn how to create sections. 2) I did know the subject of the article but not in a way that compromises my objectivity. If anything, I am better able to find and screen various resources for information. 3) Where do I find out which parts need additional citations? Somapsyche ( talk) 01:02, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Regarding usage of certain images

Hi Marchjuly! Since you provided me assistance on an image use issue earlier, I thought perhaps you could assist me again. I would like to flesh out the facelift section in the Genesis G70 wikiarticle. To that end, I would like to add some photos depicting that vehicle’s mid-cycle update. The manufacturer makes images available with less usage restrictions than normal, lesser restrictions that I hope will permit their use here. Below, are the notes from the manufacturer’s photo page for that vehicle:

USAGE RIGHTS/RESTRICTIONS

This media asset is free for editorial broadcast, print, online and radio use. It is restricted for use for other purposes.

Do those “permissions” mesh with Wikipedia rules sufficiently to allow the use of those photos here? Thanks! Spike Toronto 13:38, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Their choice of licensing seems to place restrictions on the way the photos can be reused. The wording "free for editorial use" and "restricted for use for other purposes" almost certainly wouldn't be considered to comply with c:COM:L or WP:COPY#Guidelines for images and other media files since it seems to place restrictions on any type of commercial reuse or derivative use. In other words, they don't care in some publication about new cars uses the photo in articles about the car, but they don't want people downloading it and putting it on T-shirts, using it in calendars or using it in Internet memes. The memes or other parodies and derivative works might be covered under fair use, but that's not a "free license" for Wikipedia's or Commons's purposes. So, I don't think these files could be uploaded to either Wikipedia or Commons under a free license and I wouldn't advise trying to upload them as such since they'd probably be deleted asap; you can, however, ask at WP:MCQ or c:COM:VPC if you want other opinions.
Whether the file can be uploaded as WP:NFC, I can't say for sure that such a thing wouldn't be possible since often it's hard to asses non-free content until after it has been uploaded and is actually being used in some article. Each use of non-free content does, however, need to meet all WP:NFCCP and my hunch is that it would be hard to justify such a use per WP:FREER, WP:NFC#CS and even possibly WP:NFC#Number of items (the latter if you tried to use more than one of these photos in the same section or tried to create some sort of montage of multiple images). FREER would be really hard to meet since it appears that this "facelift" version is going to eventually be sold to the public (if it already isn't available for sale) which means that a free equivalent image is almost certainly reasonable to expect, but you can ask about this at WT:NFCC to see what some others might think if you want. You can, of course, just roll the dice and upload the file as non-free if you believe its use is justified and then see what happens. If the file's use is challenged, you may have to establish a WP:CONSENSUS in favor of using it to stop it from being deleted. Sorry, but that's the best answer I can give you on this. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 23:54, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi Marchjuly! Thanks for your advice and explanation. I think what I’ll do is, first, write up the section. Then, “roll the dice” and upload to Wikipedia as non-free ONE (1) photo from the three-photo set the manufacturer has made available to automotive journalists, and see what ensues (fingers crossed). Thanks! Spike Toronto 18:58, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your email. Forgive me if I don't directly respond, but I don't like getting my email address out there. However lets just say yes, it's a problem, looks to be a very long term subtle problem and is going to take some help to unravel. I would appreciate any assistance you can give in that regards. No problem and understand about email. I'm not sure what I can do though. Maybe trying to get some WikiProjects involved would help. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 14:12, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
