Mate, this article is looking good, well done! As I said in my edit summaries, you can't assess an article you've been involved in as B-Class or higher, you need to make an entry for it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Requests and someone will assess it for you (I think it has a decent shot at B-Class myself). Hello LeonidasSpartan. I have two concern with your edits on Foreign Legion articles.

The first is about your addition of the Foreign Legion to the allegiance section of the infoboxes. As the allegiance section is mainly for units that are not a part of the regular armed forces of a sovereign state, I would like to know why you have added them to the Foreign Legio units that are a part of the regular armed forces of a sovereign state. Romantiscism and myth aside the Foreign legion is no different from the Troupes de marine or Chasseurs alpins execept the recruit foreigners instead of Frenchmen.

The second concern is your name change of the 13th Demi-brigade article. Your reason behinds this was stated as “More accurate name”. That might be true, but what is important on wikipedia for naming units are what the most common name in reputable historical works and that is the 13th Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade. First of all Carl, let me say that I have great respect for the work you have done on the French Foreign Legion in general. I feel that you are to be commended for it. That being said, to address your questions, I chose to to throw the allegiance section into the French Foreign Legion info boxes not due to any idea of romanticism or some misconceived notion that today their only loyalty is to the Legion itself (that is hardly the case), instead I chose to throw the allegiance section in there because from my readings, the French Foreign has despite its recent incorporation as an integral part of the French military, it became very clear to me that the French Foreign Legion is in many ways quite distinct from the French military as whole. It was the historical separation between the espirit du corp of the Legion and that of the French Army that I was trying to express there. I shall elaborate more tomorrow.07:16, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update. Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board. The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated. Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody! Stats If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Greetings GOCE Backlog elimination drive participant, We are now coming up to the last few days of the drive, the last for 2010. Currently, it looks like we will achieve our target for reducing the backlog by 10%, however, we still have huge numbers for 2009. We have 55 participants in this drive. If everyone just clears 2 articles each, we will reduce the backlog by a further 110 articles. If everyone can just do 3 articles, we will hit 165. If you have yet to work on any articles and have rollover words, remember that you do need to copyedit at least a couple of articles in this drive for your previous rollover to be valid for the next drive. There are many very small articles that will take less than 5-10 minutes to copyedit. Use CatScan to find them. Let's all concentrate our firepower on the first three months of 2009 as we approach the end of this final drive for the year. Hi LeonidasSpartan. I hope you don't mind me offering some friendly advice on a couple of things. Firstly, some people might regard this section of your userpage as canvassing (particularly the part of the message where you ask them to consider voting for you personally and link it to your section of the election page). Although something like a neutrally worded notice on their userpage is normally permitted if, say, an editor is running for adminship, Wikipedians in my experience are sensitive about anything that looks like campaigning. If you want a message there it might be best to keep it to a simple announcement that there's a milhist coord election underway and link to the page rather than any particular section. Secondly, thanking everyone who supports your candidacy can be counter-productive - it can give the appearance of being a bit too keen and actually put people off. I realise that you're probably just being polite, but you can guarantee there's always some who take things in the worst possible way! I hope you don't mind me butting in like this, but I don't want to see you fall foul of the last section of our coord election FAQ. I noticed your question to FRAM and I wanted to part my 2 cents as well. Personally, I would love for Wikipedia to haev these awards and I don't personally think its an issue of notability but of verifiability. I think that in many cases your going to have a tough time finding sources for many of them because even the states don't give very good guidance to their own members. You might want to bring the issue up at WikiProject Military history, and Orders and decorations. Historically though the general view is unfortunately that many of these are non notable and the general attitude is that all the colorful ribbons are a waste of space on articles. Not my opinion just the perception I haev seen. December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page! The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Guild of Copy Editors December 2014 Newsletter Drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in November's Backlog Elimination Drive. Of the 43 people who signed up for this drive, 26 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: The November Drive removed 26 requests from the Requests page and 509 articles from the {{ copy edit}} backlog. We copy edited 83 articles tagged in the target months; July, August, and September 2013. Together with tag removals from articles unsuitable for copy editing, we eliminated July 2013 from the backlog and reduced August and September's tags to 61 and 70 respectively. As of 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC), the backlog stood at 1,974 articles, dipping below 2,000 for the first time in the Guild's history (see graph at right). Well done everyone! Blitz: The December Blitz will run from December 14–20 and will focus on articles related to Religion, in recognition of this month's religious holidays in much of the English-speaking world. Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. "Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. Points can be earned through reviewing articles on the AutoCheck report, reviewing articles listed at WP:MILHIST/ASSESS, reviewing MILHIST-tagged articles at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, and reviewing articles submitted at WP:MILHIST/ACR. Service awards and barnstars are given for set points thresholds, and the top three finishers will receive further awards.
