Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

This list article comprehensively fails WP:LISTCRITERIA on the basis the article is a list of inter-wiki links to Norwegian Wikipedia.

Looking at the linked articles on NO:WP, they seem to just consist of a table of shooting ranges with name, municipality and the lat/long (which links to GeoHack).

So what we have is a list of links to pages on another wiki, which would themselves fail WP:NOTDIRECTORY here.

This is fine on no.wp if it meets their GNG. On en.wp it does not.

There's no encyclopaedic content there worth importing to en.wp which would help this page meet WP:GNG. I don't see how this page meets (or could ever meet) notability unless it could be rewritten to cover some unique or special feature of Norwegian shooting ranges that marks them out from ranges anywhere else in the world (if such a feature exists, which it probably doesn't).

I don't think any argument can be made that the no.wp links are just placeholding until equivalent articles can be created on en.wp because I can't see how a page like this would past LISTCRITERIA on en.wp. PTV Sports

References do not show how this is notable. Plenty of unreliable sources and NEWSORGINDIA but nothing in-depth. Recommend a redirect to parent Pakistan Television Corporation. While I did not do so prior to the AfD, programming also needs to be removed per WP:NOTTVGUIDE. ~~Delete~~ Keep. ~~I agree that there are no good sources, and that its near impossible to find a reliable source talking about the Nike Indoor Nationals.~~ Turns out there are some good sources talking about it. A lot of @ Habst's sources are about the Nike Outdoor nationals, but they still provided a good number of articles about the Indoor Nationals. Keep. Per WP:AVOIDCOI, making mention that I created the article. Additional information and sources added. Meets GNG's description of significant coverage, "... addresses the topic directly and in detail, so that no original research is needed to extract the content. Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material." Even when the article had one source, it sufficiently addressed the topic directly and in detail. Regardless, I have added more information to the article, as well as additional citations from additional secondary sources - all of which meet GNG's definition of significant coverage. I have also added an external link, on the article, to the press release report released by the founding schools when it was established - one of the cited sources also links to it. @ Twinkle1990: - can I just point out NSPORT states that "Failing to meet the criteria in this guideline means that notability will need to be established in other ways (for example, the general notability guideline...) - so all NSPORT is saying that people who meet those criteria are considered notable, but not meeting those criteria doesn't automatically make them non-notable. At worst this is an obvious redirect to List of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club players where his name needs to be added. A note should also be added, as has been done for others. Beyond that I have no particular view here - there are some sources, but not so many. Fails WP:GNG and WP:SPORTBASIC #5 (Sports biographies must include at least one reference to a source providing significant coverage of the subject, excluding database sources.")

I created the article in 2020 when the old WP:NGRIDIRON presumed notability for NFL players -- we have database sources showing that Cleve appeared in 19 NFL games as a back and end from 1921-1924. When the presumption was reversed, User:Hey man im josh correctly tagged the article due to the need for additional sources. I thought that someone who appeared in 19 NFL games would have WP:SIGCOV, but my follow-up searches in 2022 didn't find any. I searched again today but didn't find anything rising to the level of SIGCOV. (FWIW: I did find some passing references where his given name was listed as "Ainar" [3] and others as "Einar" [4] [5].)

Despite my efforts, the article still does not comply with our guidelines, so it's time for me to throw in the towel -- unless someone can dig up SIGCOV that I've been unable to find. Cbl62 ( talk) 00:37, 16 July 2024 (UTC) reply

Draftify per nom and Beanie’s comments above. Beanie and Cbl62 both have a reputation of working very hard to find coverage of lesser-known topics if it’s available, so if either (or both) of them are interested, this is a very reasonable ATD. I don't see coverage to meet NSEASONS even for that range, at least from a first glance at the sources in those articles and elsewhere. 1898 has only the database and a very short recap, while the 1899 one has only the database and a long section devoted to the rules of the game in the era with no references to the actual team. ~~Delete~~ (without prejudice). Fails WP:GNG and WP:NSEASONS due to the lack of WP:SIGCOV. Pacific was a major program in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s but not so in the 1890s. Indeed, the program was practically non-existent prior to 1919 -- a grand total of five games played between 1895 and 1918 (zero wins, one tie, four losses, 11 total points scored). If someone some day wants to create an article on the early history of the Pacific football program, it might possibly be viable, but I certainly don't have the time or inclination to work on that when there are so many more worthwhile topics to pursue. It's probably worth the editing time to create the proposed article, though, and merging the very small amount of information. The 1898 and 1899 articles aren't in great shape either, and it's possible the game(s) which were played were indeed covered in local papers of the time. We could expand the scope of Pacific Tigers football, 1895–1899 to include 1919 and perhaps some or all of the 1920s. I think Pacific may have played rugby at some pint between 1900 and 1918, a la 1906–1917 Stanford rugby teams. That could be covered in an expanded article as well. Given that the merge target of Pacific Tigers football, 1895–1899 had already been created (by me per precedent with suggestion from two other editors), what's the point of keeping this AfD open? I don't think there's any consensus to keep this as a stand-alone article. Randy Kryn, you were the only keep vote. Beanie - I've previously taken the same position, but I think that may be wrong. I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) merging preserves the edit history of both articles. INCDAB states: In individual cases consensus may determine that a parenthetically disambiguated title that is still ambiguous has a primary topic, but the threshold for identifying a primary topic for such titles is higher than for a title without parenthetical disambiguation. As with any other term with a primary topic, it should either be the title of the article for that topic or redirect to it. There are 2 Ray Brown baseball players, both pitchers: this one, a Hall of Fame Negro league pitcher; and Ray Brown (National League pitcher) who pitched 1 game for the Cubs in 1909. The pageviews ( Negro league pitcher & Natinal League pitcher) over the last year are 3428:170, or ~20:1, which is about what it takes according to List of reported partially disambiguated article titles and their characteristics. Delete article lacks in sources and in any information. The sources i found, including the ones presented by @Tau Corvi (Thank you for providing those) are, in my opinion, not enough to prove notability as per WP:SPORTCRIT - those are just narration of transfers, some tabloid coverage and game results. When looking for reliable resources about this fight and match card, I could only find a couple of news articles from ABC News (Australia) that explained the fight was happening and not much else. Weak Keep presumably the RSSSF archives would be a source for the statistical data, they are also on ESPN [18]. Generally Wikipedia has article on top-flight football leagues of countries of the size (and football-enthusiasm) of Colombia. Keep It's absolutely notable as a top flight football league. Spanish Wikipedia has sources, but no direct link because it breaks the seasons up into Apertura and Clausura, which contains links to sources: [19] [20] But there's a 100% chance this is notable: I was able to find [21] very quickly, and ESPN Deportes has all of the statistics on their website as well. Mahmutaj never played in a professional league and the coverage to date isn't enough for WP:SIGCOV, in my view. Panorama 1 is just an announcement of being released, Panorama 2 is just a direct quote from Mahmutaj with no third party analysis and Sport Ekspres represents the best source on him but it still only confirms that he scored 19 goals for Luftëtari and played at under-17 level for Albania, which I would say falls just short of the depth required. This interview is an example of one that would count as having at least some third party analysis (of the tennis player Carlos Alcaraz). Clariniie I am aware that that's a different sport, though. Good interview sources for football look like The Guardian (Leah Williamson interview) and BBC (Aitana Bonmatí interview). Notice how the articles are written outside of a normal Q&A format and how most of them start with some background info on the interviewee first, which automatically pushes it to SIGCOV. The articles do more than just merely regurgitate the interview. If someone can find similar calibre sourcing for Mahmutaj, I will happily withdraw my support for deletion. Yet another long-unsourced article of a Slovak men's footballer who seems to have a minor career. According to Soccerway, his career in higher level clubs lasted between 107 and 800 minutes. He went missing from 2015 until 2023, but came back to play for third tier club FK Beluša, then disappeared again. I can't find any better source than passing mentions and database from my searches. Delete. I only found news about his transfer to Dynamo Kyiv and his loan to Shkëndija, as well as several articles on fan sites, which, in my opinion, doesn't meet WP:SIGCOV. Vierde Klasse consists of 55 divisions with 12 or 14 teams in each, so the claim that "other clubs in same division all seem to have articles" seems far from correct. Keep per WP:GNG. Current content is misleading. Article is biased toward the famous "parent", while the club continues on the license and registration of the other parent. I will fix that. Name should be Haarlem-Kennemerland FC. While I support dropping the FC where it is not needed, here it is needed. "Haarlem Kennemerland" is "city region" and that is ambiguous. The dash was unjustifiably dropped. I've added a few sources for the stadium and I believe it should be kept, as it's used by Liga IV and Liga III teams to play Cupa României matches, along other events as well. Delete. Doesn't meet WP:CLUB or WP:GNG. I have added the only two sources I could find, which support the text, to the article. That there do not appear to be independent/reliable sources available to support even the basic facts in the text (formation date, current status, disestablishment?) suggests that SIGCOV is not met. Apart from northernirelandworld.com (a hyper-local online news sources which has perhaps a handful of match reports and other random mentions), the only coverage in "mainstream" news sources are these passing mentions in the Belfast Telegraph. Even if these two news articles dealt with the subject org as a primary topic (and they don't), it'd be difficult to argue that two (semi-regional) news articles amounted to significant coverage. That the article was created and expanded by clearly SPA/COI editors (seemingly as a form of NOTWEBHOST) is hard to overlook. Cannot support/advocate for retention. Comment. The article is from ye olden times and is not satisfactory with current guidelines. The false information about 47 minutes is a misinterpretation of 47 matches in the Czechoslovak First League, and he did of course have a longer career before and after that even though WorldFootball has not recorded it. But someone has to have recorded something in order to have a Wikipedia article. This piece is an overview of his career. Comment. That article linked by Geschichte appears in the Czech-language version of the page. It is a good start. The link from Clariniie suggests he played in European competitions in the 1994–95 season on top of the league matches. Sources likely exist. I was able to find details of his performances in the Czechoslovak First League: 1990–91 season, 1991–92 season (didn't play), 1992–93 season for 42 appearances and 6 goals. While the first editions may have had limited coverage due to CAFA's emerging stage and limited experience, the organization's growth and increased attention highlight the importance of these early stages articles being there.

Furthermore, for Central Asia, where international sports events are relatively scarce, CAFA's tournaments hold notable significance. Thus, 10 years later, we can clearly see that the tournament was not noteworthy, wasn't important in the world of football and got a corresponding lack of coverage (apart from reports of the matches). The level of detailed coverage on display (goalscorers, match kick-off times, table) is therefore not needed, with the entry failing WP:NOTINHERITED (notability not being inherited from the participating teams), WP:MILL, WP:SUSTAINED and WP:NOTSTATS among others. Keep – It is self-evident that a friendly tournament will not change the course of football history, but the record of a competition that brought together four top-tier clubs in Europe does not seem impertinent to me, and the records of the matches and other relevant information are all available for verification. As there were no more editions to stabilize the competition, as occurred with the Audi Cup, I understand the nomination, but I do not see sufficient reason to eliminate the article. Redirect and part merge to 2014–15 FC Schalke 04 season, there is a bizarre notion that pre-seasons have no bering on club seasons, well they can, from injuries to key players, a club debut for another player. I don't see a need for this AfD at this level. There is a scattering effect of information and then there is no information. How in-depth to you want an article to be. It could easily be kept with good coverage. But I don't see the point here. Clearly no thought to a redirect or adding certain information to the other club season articles. Most of these sources are interviews and paid promotions and do not help pass WP:NFOOTY. The player has not garnered significant reliable coverage for any other achievements because he has not played at an international level and he has not played for an entirely professional league to satisfy WP:GNG. He is an upcoming player but it is too early to warrant a page on this subject because of insufficient significant achievements.

Weak keep. Had a good look for sources, plus information in general about this team. They most likely never played in the second tier of Slovak football either. For me there are 6 instances (some overlapping) where I would argue for it being more than a trivial mention – see third column. In addition to the SME sources, the first source from Nfitz in their comment above (Deník) discusses a 2017 "Super Cup" match between winners of regional cups in the Czech Republic versus Slovakia. According to that, Rovinka played in that on account of having won the Bratislava football association cup beforehand, which I found a primary source for here. All in all, I feel this scrapes WP:GNG. Multiple sources are available to support its notability, though they have not yet been added to the article. According to above dicussion, it is clear that sources exist, and the article should be improved rather than deleted, as per WP. While the article requires significant work, it undeniably meets the necessary notability level. Keep. The fact that the sources are related to the speedway does not make them non-independent. Per WP:GNG "Independent of the subject" excludes works produced by the article's subject or someone affiliated with it. Comment: I saw the RSN discussion first, so I do not plan to vote, but to give my opinion from my limited perspective. Having taken a look at Scunthorpe Scorpions, which looks like two different teams on one article, I can count about five dozen riders that have articles. Of the " Notable riders," most of them use " speedway related sources" in their articles with British Speedway cited between two and three dozen times. (More problematic, but farther outside of the discussion is that at least one article is citing sources that are MREL and GUNREL.)

Overall, the issue over the specific sources is going to have an effect on other articles. If deemed a problem, then there will need to be more AfD discussions in the near future; while if deemed acceptable could lead to additional article creations. I am of the opinion that redirects to the team articles could be more preferred than deletion and that some information might be includable in the various team articles. Keep – Bare rationale. "It exists"? Yes... the iconic top class of karting sure exists. The fact that it was phased out 8 years ago doesn't erase its history. "Doesn't meet WP:N" is one ambitious affirmation that likely stems from a deep unfamiliarity with the sport. The above vote also fails to understand that karting classes aren't corporations (like NASCAR or Formula One) but rather types of engines. Formula A and KF are short terms used in a lot of fields, so WP:BEFORE searches are tedious, but they had a leading role in the golden era of karting. Numerous sources ( [39], [40], [41], [42], [43], [44], [45], [46], [47], [48], [49], [50], [51]) could be used to improve the article, as it's rather low-quality. Same applies to its feeders KF2 and KF3 (now OK and OK-Junior) and shifters KZ1 and KZ2. But all offer necessary information that, if deleted, would be imperative to add back to the main karting article. I think the current split works best. Thank you for your response. In this case, "speedily delete" refers to speedy deletion, a separate, much quicker procedure which does not need a discussion to delete a page. This rugby article is not eligible to be deleted through that medium. However, in my opinion, the subject has not received significant coverage from reliable sources that cover him directly and in detail and thus might fail our general notability guidelines, which is why I brought it to a discussion. Doesn't pass WP:RU/N, because on an inernational level, he played for United States men's national rugby league team (Eagles), but the player is presumed notable if he played for United States men's national rugby union team (Hawks). Stay: Viva Van currently works for Ring of Honor & AEW so that should be enough notability for her page to stay, it could also be in the hopes of her someday capturing a ROH TV Women's title or a AEW Women's or AEW TBS title or even a New Japan Women's or New Japan Strong Women's title or Wonder Ring Stardom Women's title while still in the indy's if given enough time or she could even soon or someday sign with WWE, so I think that that should be enough for her page should stay around. Because she also is still a very active indy wrestler today. (She also was trained by Rikishi and probably is apart of the Samoan / Polynesian Heritage / Bloodline. Which could do good if she we're to someday join WWE as well. I created the article in 2020 when the old WP:NGRIDIRON presumed notability for NFL players -- we have database sources showing that Cleve appeared in 19 NFL games as a back and end from 1921-1924. When the presumption was reversed, User:Hey man im josh correctly tagged the article due to the need for additional sources. I thought that someone who appeared in 19 NFL games would have WP:SIGCOV, but my follow-up searches in 2022 didn't find any. I searched again today but didn't find anything rising to the level of SIGCOV. (FWIW: I did find some passing references where his given name was listed as "Ainar" [58] and others as "Einar" [59] [60].)

Despite my efforts, the article still does not comply with our guidelines, so it's time for me to throw in the towel -- unless someone can dig up SIGCOV that I've been unable to find. Cbl62 ( talk) 00:37, 16 July 2024 (UTC) reply

Draftify per nom and Beanie’s comments above. Beanie and Cbl62 both have a reputation of working very hard to find coverage of lesser-known topics if it’s available, so if either (or both) of them are interested, this is a very reasonable ATD. This interview is an example of one that would count as having at least some third party analysis (of the tennis player Carlos Alcaraz). Clariniie I am aware that that's a different sport, though. Good interview sources for football look like The Guardian (Leah Williamson interview) and BBC (Aitana Bonmatí interview). Notice how the articles are written outside of a normal Q&A format and how most of them start with some background info on the interviewee first, which automatically pushes it to SIGCOV. The articles do more than just merely regurgitate the interview. If someone can find similar calibre sourcing for Mahmutaj, I will happily withdraw my support for deletion. Per WP:GNG "Independent of the subject" excludes works produced by the article's subject or someone affiliated with it. Comment: I saw the RSN discussion first, so I do not plan to vote, but to give my opinion from my limited perspective. Having taken a look at Scunthorpe Scorpions, which looks like two different teams on one article, I can count about five dozen riders that have articles. Of the " Notable riders," most of them use " speedway related sources" in their articles with British Speedway cited between two and three dozen times. (More problematic, but farther outside of the discussion is that at least one article is citing sources that are MREL and GUNREL.)

Overall, the issue over the specific sources is going to have an effect on other articles. If deemed a problem, then there will need to be more AfD discussions in the near future; while if deemed acceptable could lead to additional article creations. I am of the opinion that redirects to the team articles could be more preferred than deletion and that some information might be includable in the various team articles. Comment. The article is from ye olden times and is not satisfactory with current guidelines. The false information about 47 minutes is a misinterpretation of 47 matches in the Czechoslovak First League, and he did of course have a longer career before and after that even though WorldFootball has not recorded it. But someone has to have recorded something in order to have a Wikipedia article. This piece is an overview of his career. Comment. That article linked by Geschichte appears in the Czech-language version of the page. It is a good start. The link from Clariniie suggests he played in European competitions in the 1994–95 season on top of the league matches. Sources likely exist. I was able to find details of his performances in the Czechoslovak First League: 1990–91 season, 1991–92 season (didn't play), 1992–93 season for 42 appearances and 6 goals. Keep - @ RangersRus:, @ Iwaqarhashmi:, I found [89], [90], [91], [ [92], [93], [94], [95], among many more English and Hindu sources (not to mention other Indian languages. Cleary was sigifnicant ifgure in Indian lower league football and was even called up to the senior India national team. Article needs improvement, not deletion. Most of these sources are interviews and paid promotions and do not help pass WP:NFOOTY. The player has not garnered significant reliable coverage for any other achievements because he has not played at an international level and he has not played for an entirely professional league to satisfy WP:GNG. He is an upcoming player but it is too early to warrant a page on this subject because of insufficient significant achievements.

Comment - to the closer, nobody has explained how he doesnt pass WP:GNG which he clarly does... just because he played in thje lower leagues doesnt meen he was a clear topic of interest in Indian football who is probably only lower league Indian palyer to be called up to senior national team. Keep These are excellent references. The article is crap, but the subject clearly meets GNG. The previous deletion discussion years ago is irrelevant, given the amount of media coverage is major national papers since then. The GNG policy clearly supports keeping. Keep - the comment about him being an "upcoming player" is nonsense as the subject is 34 years old. Per Das osmnezz and Nfitz, I cannot see any policy-based arguments for deletion here. The sources mentioned in this discussion would help the development of the article, but coupled with what is already in place there, they appear to establish a sufficient level of notability. Thank you for your response. In this case, "speedily delete" refers to speedy deletion, a separate, much quicker procedure which does not need a discussion to delete a page. This rugby article is not eligible to be deleted through that medium. However, in my opinion, the subject has not received significant coverage from reliable sources that cover him directly and in detail and thus might fail our general notability guidelines, which is why I brought it to a discussion. Doesn't pass WP:RU/N, because on an inernational level, he played for United States men's national rugby league team (Eagles), but the player is presumed notable if he played for United States men's national rugby union team (Hawks). Redirect to Slovakia at the 2014 Winter Olympics#Luge as ATD because I could not find any in-depth coverage about this luger to meet WP:GNG. All I found on news websites were passing mentions of his participation at the tournament. He was not even on top three luge winners. This article has been deleted from Slovak Wikipedia on 18 November 2018, possibly due to BLP concerns.
