Wow!

Just thought I'd stop by to say "Wow". I haven't been so active in recent months, but when I come back from time to tine I see all your great work on historical football topics. It is great to see someone relatively new working so diligently in this area and generating quality work. Cbl62 ( talk) 16:55, 3 August 2021 (UTC) reply

Attack at 1901 Wilmington Conference Academy football team

I respectfully ask you to please strike the personal attack at the AfD for the 1901 Wilmington Conference Academy football team article. If you have an issue with my AfD nominations, you are welcome to take me to ANI. Let'srun ( talk) 20:12, 19 January 2024 (UTC) reply

  • All I said was that it felt excessive for you to nominate an article written by me for deletion at an average of one every ~3 days. I do not see how that is a personal attack. BeanieFan11 ( talk) 20:24, 19 January 2024 (UTC) reply
It comes with the inherent accusation that I am targeting your articles for deletion, which I am not. I am targeting articles which do not meet the criteria met by WP:NSEASONS, some of which were created by you, and many more which were not. Once again, I ask for you to strike that part of your post. Let'srun ( talk) 23:43, 22 January 2024 (UTC) reply
If you are not targeting my articles, then I truly wonder how you found to tag for notability Marshall Edwards, Pete Swanson, Frank Robinson and Joe Rowe – four completely unrelated football players who are listed as my creations mostly in that order from the same month – all in a span of four minutes? Or how did you find the 1916 Tusculum Pioneers football team – an article outside your NSEASONS-deletion focus of the 1800s-1900s but related to an article I wrote? Or how did you find six consecutive of my unrelated season creations all to be ones you thought worthy of AFD nomination in that order? BeanieFan11 ( talk) 00:17, 23 January 2024 (UTC) reply
Using categories created for the respective teams, and the early college football seasons. I also nominated season articles from the 1920s [ [1]] so I'm confused how the 1916 article is outside that focus of the first roughly 50 seasons of plainly non-notable "season" articles. For the last time, I ask you to strike that comment. Let'srun ( talk) 02:41, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply
And about Edwards, Swanson, Robinson and Rowe? BeanieFan11 ( talk) 02:50, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Let'srun: And quite interesting that immediately after this, you mass maintenance tag for notability many of the season articles by me for three different programs, with no others not related to me; no, one does not randomly come across so many programs created by me when there's at least ten times as many similar articles from different programs in the same shape and state. And even if that's all random, I still ask: what about Edwards, Swanson, Robinson and Rowe? BeanieFan11 ( talk) 03:10, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply
I'm confused, were you/are you MisterCake? That is who created the Lewisburg articles I tagged. Let'srun ( talk) 03:15, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Let'srun: One season after the 1883 Lewisburg football team1887 Bucknell football team – an article I created. Also avoiding Edwards, Swanson, Robinson and Rowe... BeanieFan11 ( talk) 03:58, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply
I already answered that above. Categories.... Let'srun ( talk) 03:59, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Let'srun: Pete Swanson and Marshall Edwards literally have no categories in common... how could you possibly find them both in the span of a minute, aside from looking at my user page, where they are listed directly next to each other as some of my earliest work? BeanieFan11 ( talk) 04:09, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply
Because there are ways to switch queries beyond who created the article? Let'srun ( talk) 04:15, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Let'srun: I'm finding your response difficult to understand; but the only place these articles (Swanson, Edwards) are connected are at my userpage, where they are listed next to each other. There are no "categories" that connect them; considering the thousands of NFL stubs, how could your "queries" come across only mine? BeanieFan11 ( talk) 04:28, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply
They don't. You just picked 4 articles that I have tagged which were created by you through searching multiple categories of NFL teams (and you have hundreds of articles). I don't have any issue with the vast majority of your articles, just because I maybe disagree with 1-2% of your creations (if that) does not mean I am single-handedly targeting them. Let'srun ( talk) 00:43, 25 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Let'srun: You're avoiding the question; tell me exactly how you found those four completely unrelated articles in a span of four minutes. Also interesting how immediately after my comment at 4:28 you voted "delete" at two AFDs I contributed inclusion-leaning comments to ( Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hussain Ali Nasayyif, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tirioro Willie) in rapid succession with no others for a good 10+ minutes, then immediately after your response here you find another of them in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Karl Schwegler. Quite interesting. But aside from that, answer the question: tell me, exactly, how you came across Swanson, Edwards, Robinson and Rowe in four minutes. BeanieFan11 ( talk) 00:59, 25 January 2024 (UTC) reply
I'll repeat myself: searching multiple categories of NFL teams. Let'srun ( talk) 01:04, 25 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Let'srun: OK - so in four minutes, you randomly searched Category:Brooklyn Dodgers (NFL) players, completely randomly came across, out of over 200 others, Marshall Edwards which I happened to create, found it to tag for notability; one minute later, randomly searched Category:Los Angeles Rams players, containing over 1,000, and randomly choose to tag for notability Pete Swanson, the article I created right after Edwards; then one minute later randomly searched Category:St. Louis Rams players, a category of over 800, randomly found Joe Rowe, which I coincidentally created right after Swanson; and then one minute later, searched Category:Denver Broncos players, a category of ~1,600, and randomly found to tag for notability Frank Robinson, whom I also coincidentally happened to create right around the time of Rowe? If so, that is the most amazing coincidence I have heard of in my life. BeanieFan11 ( talk) 01:09, 25 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Let'srun: How about this: why don't you tell me, exactly, how you came across these articles (Swanson, Edwards, Robinson, Rowe), and we can end this discussion? BeanieFan11 ( talk) 04:49, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply

I took a quick look myself and wasn't able to find that much besides what's already listed in the article; Newspapers.com just had one box score mention it seems. adjacent AfD

assume you're watching, but since I forgot to ping you, I draftified 1881 Georgetown football team for you per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1881 Georgetown football team until this discussion is resolved and the target can be sorted. Not watching the draft, so just ping me if you need anything. Star Mississippi 02:43, 28 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Star Mississippi: Thanks, but as you can see in my last comment there I created Georgetown football, 1874–1889 so that draftification wouldn't be needed; its pretty much figured out that it (1881) only needs to be redirected to that page now (which looks like its heading towards keep, as the AFD for it was a bit silly). Thanks, and sorry if I am creating any extra work for you. BeanieFan11 ( talk) 03:05, 28 January 2024 (UTC) reply
No worries. I'll be honest, I was a little confused by the end of the discussion (not your fault, just the volume) and the subsequent AfD. Didn't want to do the redirect and then have it lost as a G8 if the AfD didn't close as retained.
Want me to redirect the draft or you'll do so when it closes? No preference on my end. It's just a few clicks, so less work than if you needed to ask for it. Star Mississippi 03:22, 28 January 2024 (UTC) reply
I'll just redirect it myself once the AFD is closed. BeanieFan11 ( talk) 03:37, 28 January 2024 (UTC) reply
BTW @ Star Mississippi: would you be willing to restore the AFD-deleted List of current National Football League staffs to something like Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League/List of current National Football League staffs? I've found it useful in the past for editing purposes and it seems there's others who did as well. Thanks, BeanieFan11 ( talk) 21:35, 30 January 2024 (UTC) reply
Hi @ BeanieFan11. I'm going to decline this one. Given there was a clear consensus against that article continuing to exist (vs the others where the material is fine, it's just a question of where it should live and you creating the requisite merger targets, etc.) I feel restoring it would overrule community consensus. I have a feeling it will land at DRV, which I'm OK with. I feel like this information should probably live somewhere, it just probably isnt on Wiki. Let me know if you need more info. Star Mississippi 03:06, 31 January 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Star Mississippi: Just to be clear, I'm not asking for it to be part of mainspace again; the list is useful for editors in making changes relating to NFL team staffs and coaches, etc. so I think it would be good in projectspace like you did before with Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of National Football League players with unidentified given names. If you don't think the community consensus supports such an action, I may bring it to DRV to check if you're alright with that (not exactly disagreeing with the closure, which I think was correct, just I think it would serve purpose in projectspace to assist editors like myself in contributing). BeanieFan11 ( talk) 03:15, 31 January 2024 (UTC) reply
I'm absolutely fine with that DRV, @ BeanieFan11 and if you do so this evening please feel free to point to this discussion as my blessing to explore the target as I'm about to log off. I'll weigh in to support it when I log back on. I think in this case the DRV would be more productive to establish the new location than a restoration and move which I think would lead to MfD especially since the ANI requester's userpage version was speedied and the last thing we need is even more bureaucracy. It's similar to the so-called permission to allow recreation vs. a G4 that we sometimes see in DRV. I was hoping for an ATD but your position didn't seem to get much traction whereas I think in this request for Project space, it might once folks aren't looking at notability. FWIW if I'd participated as an editor, I probably would have !voted the same as you did. It's useful, but alas it isn't notable nor really could it ever be. Is that helpful? Star Mississippi 03:23, 31 January 2024 (UTC) reply
Thanks, I'll open one tomorrow. BeanieFan11 ( talk) 03:27, 31 January 2024 (UTC) reply
( talk page stalker) Eh, I didn't comment at that AfD because I couldn't come up with a guideline-based reason for keeping but I think it's a useful navigational aid. It's not everyday a reader complains about an article that was deleted. Not sure it's too different from the lists in Category:Lists of current team rosters. Also, technically you could just transclude the templates yourself in projectspace but that's not going to help readers. ~WikiOriginal-9~ ( talk) 03:45, 31 January 2024 (UTC) reply
Wasn't able to get to it today, but I'll make sure I do at some point soon. BeanieFan11 ( talk) 01:05, 1 February 2024 (UTC) reply

WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV ( submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Removed PROD only 4 Minutes after it being placed?

Might I ask how you found my PROD of Lists of starting quarterbacks in the XFL so quickly? And did you do a BEFORE? Let'srun ( talk) 19:23, 10 March 2024 (UTC) reply

  • @ Let'srun: I had put that page on my watchlist when it was first created. As for why I deproded it, it's just that I think it might be best to have a discussion on it, as there's similar lists for other leagues. Not necessarily calling it notable, just requesting that you take that and the USFL list to AFD rather than PROD. BeanieFan11 ( talk) 19:26, 10 March 2024 (UTC) reply
I found some possible articles for the USFL list and think that one meets the WP:NLIST, thus I don't think a bundle makes sense. However, I will be taking the XFL list to AfD shortly as I respectfully disagree with the WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS argument. Let'srun ( talk) 19:29, 10 March 2024 (UTC) reply

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron ( talk • she/her), via:

Possible article to work on

Hey Beanie. I stumbled upon Fred Davis (defensive lineman) today while while working on adding more details to List of Chicago Bears first-round draft picks. I noticed his article is seriously lacking and, after doing a bit of research, I saw a lot of potential for expansion and possible DYK in its future if you're interested in taking it on. He was listed as having one Pro Bowl, but I found that he was selected to two, he was missing an AP2 for 1948, and it didn't include any mention of the fact he was a tackle for more games than a defensive lineman. So, based on him switching sides of the ball, the accolades, and the fact that I found multiple sources stating he was traded from the Rams to the Bears ( 1, 2), which there's no mention of, I think there's enough SIGCOV out there to make something of this. Was he signed by the Rams and traded before he could even play a game? What happened there? The trade was announced in July! Anyways, I just thought I'd share what I found with you because I thought you might also find it interesting. Hey man im josh ( talk) 13:18, 15 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Misleading?

BF, at WP:RMTR you wrote "An undiscussed controversial draft move by Dicklyon. There's an RM taking place at Talk:CFL Draft." True, but it seems to imply that the move was controversial because of that RM taking place, or that the move was done while the RM was taking place, neither of which is true or sensible. So I'm wondering why you thought it was controversial to move an obviously generic plural to lowercase. Dicklyon ( talk) 09:04, 29 March 2024 (UTC) reply

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello BeanieFan11,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

DYK for John Holahan

On 3 April 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article John Holahan, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Seeking your opinion

Your thoughts on this? Thanks. X ( talk) 10:32, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply

  • @ Xkalponik: Interesting idea; although I wonder exactly how it'd work in practice. E.g. say Fleur van Dooren had been deleted (looks like it won't be). If I was deleted, and I had it restored to draftspace, what would I need to do to get it returned to mainspace? BeanieFan11 ( talk) 16:55, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
@ BeanieFan11, Not much. If the article is relatively well written, and sourcing is also unproblematic, then there's not much edit needed in the draft except attributing the OG. The reason I mentioned in the criteria that a refund has to come as a draft first is that a draft is a precondition for assessing the quality of the article and identifying and correcting or making adjustments. If a draft is nearly flawless, then be it, just attribute and move to mainspace. Nothing is final here. Please feel free to share your thoughts or edit the project page if you wish to insert your viewpoints. Nonetheless, I appreciate your interest in it. I hope I'll get more editors' opinions on this.

BeanieFan11 ( talk) 04:49, 24 January 2024 (UTC) reply

assume you're watching, but since I forgot to ping you, I draftified 1881 Georgetown football team for you per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1881 Georgetown football team until this discussion is resolved and the target can be sorted.
( talk page stalker) Eh, I didn't comment at that AfD because I couldn't come up with a guideline-based reason for keeping but I think it's a useful navigational aid. It's not everyday a reader complains about an article that was deleted. Not sure it's too different from the lists in Category:Lists of current team rosters. Also, technically you could just transclude the templates yourself in projectspace but that's not going to help readers. ~WikiOriginal-9~ ( talk) 03:45, 31 January 2024 (UTC) reply

Page mover granted

Hello, BeanieFan11. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Hey man im josh ( talk) 20:01, 7 February 2024 (UTC) reply

WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima ( submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges ( Cwmhiraeth ( talk · contribs), Epicgenius ( talk · contribs), and Frostly ( talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages.

Good luck!

  • Been busy recently (challenged myself to do an article every day this month, something I've never accomplished before), but I'm sure I'll have enough time at some point to check it out. Thanks! BeanieFan11 ( talk) 16:11, 15 March 2024 (UTC) reply

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar.
