Greyhound Top Speed

Yep, no idea really how to cite it because it happens to be work that I am doling in greyhound race tracking. I posted a bit more here ( https://www.quora.com/How-fast-can-a-Greyhound-run-in-MPH/answer/Misha-Charrett), but at some stage I will add it formally somewhere. In short, I might be the only one on the planet that can give a verified speed (I have one two 2 decimal places in m/s)

Reference to the system here - https://www.thedogs.com.au/news/2021-03-15/grnsw-launch-world-leading-race-data I am the software developer that has developed and maintained the database so I have access to all the raw data

I find it amusing that now I have actual real data, everything on the web is just plain wrong ;-)

BTW, this is my website ( https://www.mcssolutions.com.au/), this is my client ( http://brook.com.au/), and here is a link to the API I developed ( https://api.brook.com.au/) - needs an API key though. Eventually will put something public to confirm Mishac67 ( talk) 10:28, 22 January 2024 (UTC) reply
Oof. That's obviously a point-of-interest problem (see WP:COI), so you can't really add that data... ''Flux55'' ( talk) 12:43, 22 January 2024 (UTC) reply
Yes and no. This will be actual calculated verifiable data that is used by Racing NSW, Victoria, South Australia etc - all the State-based racing bodies that run greyhound racing in Australia. The hardware was "commissioned" for its initial use by these official bodies. So this isn't opinion, like the current greyhound maximum speeds, which have no actual factual reference behind it. This is measured data (not an opinion). My main interest here is correcting the obviously incorrect values quoted everywhere. Any thoughts? Because the max speed quoted in the Wikipedia page is demonstrably wrong (by some margin). Maybe I can get this data out onto the Greyhound Racing NSW web site? Mishac67 ( talk) 12:50, 22 January 2024 (UTC) reply
Oof again. You stated that you were "commissioned" for this data, which falls under WP:PAID and you haven't enclosed that yet. So double no. ''Flux55'' ( talk) 13:39, 22 January 2024 (UTC) reply
Again, not quite. I develop the code that processes the data, which will be used by official racing bodies. Much like sporting game stats produced by a third party are used by the sporting bodies. Looks like it might just be easiest to get the data published on the official site (which won't have any reference to me). I totally understand the need to have verifiable data, but this was just an observation by me that all the quoted values on the internet are wrong. I don't really care, because I just deal in data, but it's a little comical that the "agreed" values currently are just plain wrong Mishac67 ( talk) 13:45, 22 January 2024 (UTC) reply
This has been an interesting exercise (as part of my work) to prove something that is "common knowledge" to be in fact, just plain wrong Mishac67 ( talk) 12:55, 22 January 2024 (UTC) reply
I changed the page to use only official sources, so got an update without resorting to using my data for now. You can tidy up the links and how they are used (I'm not good at references), but the official sectional times and the link to how long each sectional is will confirm my calculations Mishac67 ( talk) 14:23, 22 January 2024 (UTC) reply

An official reassessment isnt needed if the article is at AfD or has an open merge discussion. If either discussion closes with a consensus where the article would cease to exist, you simply delist it and update the article history. There wouldn't be a need to create a review. Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Deaths in 1979 a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Draft:Deaths in 1979. This is known as a " cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Tagging pages for speedy deletion

Hello, Flux55,

You are a very new editor and I think you should hold off on tagging articles and drafts for speedy deletion. You are marking drafts as promotional that are not at all spammy or similar to advertising. You especially shouldn't be tagging drafts for deletion so soon after they have been created by brand new editors. Those editors are not familiar with all of the rules on Wikipedia and this is kind of slap in the face. Focus less on autobiographies and more on drafts about companies, it is easier to tell when these are promotional. But if someone is just writing a biography about an individual, it will of course will be focused on that person, that doesn't mean that it is promotional.

As a new editor, you should emphathize with other new editors who might not be familiar with all of the policies and guidelines on the project. How about posting some Welcome notices with links to resources rather than tagging their first efforts for deletion? Try to educate them, not chase them away from the project. You are an ambassador, not an enforcer. The only criteria to be absolutely vigilant about are copyright violations and content that violates BLP policy which is usually vandalism and can be tagged for immediate deletion.

If you have questions about this and the criteria for speedy deletion, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 23:28, 2 February 2024 (UTC) reply

You tagged Draft:Shawn Zeng for deletion 4 minutes after it was created and the editor was working on it! It's a draft. You should give content creators at least an hour to work on their new articles and drafts before tagging them. Liz Read! Talk! 23:34, 2 February 2024 (UTC) reply
And it looks like you created the User:Biswasng29 page just so you could then tag it for deletion! This makes no sense at all and you left a snarky comment on the editor's user talk page that I needed to remove. I'll look over your contributions and if the rest of your editing is this disruptive, I might have to issue a ban from you tagging any pages for deletion. You don't seem to have the knowledge or maturity to do so responsibly. Liz Read! Talk! 23:48, 2 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Hello, Flux55,

Do not tag a draft page for deletion as a "test" only 5 minutes after the page was created! Five minutes is not enough time to create an article, much less develop content and reference the page. In fact, we don't delete "test" drafts until they have been around for a few weeks or months. If this is a new editor, then there is a lot to learn about creating an article and learning about Wikipedia policies, guidelines and standards.

Please do not rush to tag pages for deletion. You are still a new editor and if you have ever created articles yourself, you should be able to empathize with new editors who are learning the ropes. The guideline for patrollers is to wait at least an hour after the editor has stopped editing before tagging a page for deletion unless there are issues with copyright violations, BLP-violations, advertising or vandalism/offensive content. Things are more relaxed in Draft space because readers will not encounter these pages so we allow blank pages, incomplete pages, half-written sentences and all sorts of inadequate writing because they are only drafts. Try patrolling in the main space instead, this is where there is more of an urgency to remove inappropriate content. Unless the content is inappropriate as described above, there is no rush to delete draft articles.

If you have questions, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 23:46, 12 February 2024 (UTC) reply

When you write about a company

  • you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the organisation or company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, logs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the company or organisation claims or interviewing its management. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
  • Your sources were basically the company website and many pages just quoting or interviewing the founders. We don't care what they say, we need independent third-party sources.
  • The notability guidelines for organisations and companies have been updated. The primary criteria has five components that must be evaluated separately and independently to determine if it is met:
  1. significant coverage in
  2. independent,
  3. multiple,
  4. reliable,
  5. secondary sources.
Note that an individual source must meet all four criteria to be counted towards notability.
  • it's all about what the company sells, little about the company itself. To show notability you need hard verifiable facts such as the number of employees, management structure, turnover or profits. It doesn't even appear to have headquarters or production facilities, from what you tell us.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • You say their bibles trended on TikTok. The source for this is the Chungs, not TikTok, and not a criterion for notability, even if it's true
  • You have sections on celebrity endorsements, apparently sourced to the Chungs rather than the celebrities. Endorsements are not a criterion for notability, even if they are true, just look spammy.
  • You have a "citations section" which is basically links to the Chungs talking about themselves and their bibles, just promo
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
I didn't check.

Basically your article is many links to the Chungs talking about their company, i.e., promo, no real facts about the company, and sections which are irrelevant to notability as linked above, and just provide a platform for the company's founders to tell us how wonderful they are

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:17, 17 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Tropical Storm Debby (2006) into 2006 Atlantic hurricane season. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{ copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. Re: Debby

Hey there, looks like you missed a few minor things. For starters, if you're merging an article and copying the content, be sure to add {{redirect from merge}} to the old redirect. I'm sure you saw the message above this, which mentions the copying of text, so be sure to include that in the future. Also, on the talk page, you have to delist the article as a good article. You can see in this edit what that looks like. Does all of that make sense? ♫ Hurricanehink ( talk) 20:55, 17 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Your contributions to ANI

You have only been editing here for a few weeks, which is a very short time, and do not seem to have a great grasp on what a useful contribution at administrative noticeboards looks like. I was hoping that after this exchange, you might step back, but since then you've continued making edits at ANI that do not seem constructive to me. I'd like to encourage you to stop engaging in ANI discussions in which you are not involved, unless you have looked carefully into the situation and have a substantial or unique contribution to make. Thanks for considering this request, JBL ( talk) 17:18, 21 February 2024 (UTC) reply

@ Bbb23: At one point in my life I had a long-running joke with some friends that revolved around an assignment of precise values to "few", "some", "many", etc. Probably they would have agreed with you that "7" is not "a few". Personally, I first commented on ANI when my account was about 18 months old (though with fewer edits than Flux has -- they're editing at a very high rate for a new user, which is probably why there ANI comments were so noticeable). It looks like you took a little bit longer to find your way there (21 months or so). -- JBL ( talk) 20:25, 21 February 2024 (UTC) reply

WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV ( submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. @ Ponyo: It should be noted that the AFC was approved by administrator Beland; Flux posted to the RandomManna account's talk page thanking Beland. Still... really bummed to see this. Flux looked like an editor who was over-enthusiastic with jumping into maintenance/backroom areas, but he was writing good content and seemed to have a lot of promise. We even co-nommed an FLC (still ongoing) that sprung from an AFC submission he created and got approved. That being said, I can't defend such blatant misuse of multiple accounts. Flux: I hope to see you back here someday, but I urge you to read Wikipedia:Standard offer and follow the guidance there. I wish you the absolute best. Thanks, Ponyo, for taking action. If you look at this User talk page, you'll see I posted a fair number of warnings to them because they were editing in areas that new editors rarely jump in so quickly and they were just racking up hundreds, no, thousands, of edits. I watch the Move log and that is often where you can see returning, experienced editors pretending to be new editors. I just asked Drmies about another new account that is acting precociously. Not smart behavior if you are interested in appearing to be a newbie. Liz Read! Talk! 23:54, 5 March 2024 (UTC) reply

GA reassessment

An official reassessment isnt needed if the article is at AfD or has an open merge discussion. If either discussion closes with a consensus where the article would cease to exist, you simply delist it and update the article history. There wouldn't be a need to create a review. Hi there Flux55. If it's okay with you, I would like to submit this as a featured list candidate sometime within the next week or so. (Obviously, as the timeline's creator and primary contributor, you would be getting nomination credit.) I've been going through the main timeline section with a fine-tooth comb and adding coordinates, landmark-relative locations, and other tweaks to try and get it to featured level. I'll be looking for images to add after I hit the "add topic" button. Dylan620 (he/him • talkedits) 02:20, 30 January 2024 (UTC) reply

Unless you are a blocked editor who is returning to edit here, you do not have the experience to be draftifying articles from main space. You are not informing the content creator of what you are doing and you don't have the editing experience to judge when draftifying is appropriate. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup.

You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa ( talk) 12:37, 17 February 2024 (UTC) reply

@ JayBeeEll: It's true that Flux has not been editing a long time, but I don't think I'd call over 1.5 months a "few weeks".-- Bbb23 ( talk) 17:55, 21 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Multiple accounts

Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{ unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

  • I've blocked your account until you can explain your creation and use of multiple undisclosed accounts, including:
  • Plus what appear to be a number of throw aways of sleepers. I knew you were using the RandomManna account, but there was no overlap so I looked the other way. The creation and extensive use of Ominateau, however, is a clear violation of WP:SOCK.-- Ponyo bons mots 22:03, 5 March 2024 (UTC) reply
On second thought, you can make an appeal via RandomManna106. I doubt it's your first account, but it's the oldest one I found in this check.-- Ponyo bons mots 22:20, 5 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Accepting Commenting on your own article at WP:AFC? Tsk tsk.-- Ponyo bons mots 22:24, 5 March 2024 (UTC) corrected per Dylan620's note below.-- Ponyo bons mots 00:26, 6 March 2024 (UTC) reply
