hi just a note about the deletion of the article on Tempora Heroica. Tempora Heroica or TH is a MUD (multi user dungeon) based on a long serious of MUDS going back to the original MUD codebase, the first multiplayer internet game. TH is one of the original DIKUMUD games and is the 'child' of Archipelago MUD which was developed in 1993 from CircleMUD. The reason a lot of online material has dissapeared regarding TH is simply the growth in MMPORGS and decline in interest in MUDs. I used to maintain a page describing the Arch Code (Archipelago MUD code which TH is based on) and I will put this online shortly, including some links to information about TH across the Web which still survive. I must say it is strange that this article has been removed given its historic significance for the internet and indeed educational technology research as a service hosted by ibiblio. When I have Ihave re-hosted my old pages I will come back and either request the article is re-added or create a new article on the branch of MUDs concerning Archipelago/ Tempora Heroica, which are historic software from the earliest days of the net. -- Gwledig ( talk) 15:37, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. And I definitely agree; the more editors involved in archiving, the better. I cringe every time I use an online source that I didn't dig up through the Wayback Machine.
Unfortunately, WebCite is a fairly poor substitute, in my opinion, as it doesn't allow users to travel between cached pages without completely changing cache URLs. It's a real pain for multi-page articles. But hey, Internet Archive doesn't let you archive on demand, so at least that's something. JimmyBlackwing ( talk) 21:07, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

It would appear that the one element left to resolve in the FAC is the non-free images. I know you gave your support to the images as they were, but it seems Sandy isn't quite convinced yet. You're more experienced with all this non-free bureaucracy than I am, I don't suppose you could strengthen the fair use rationale on File:Guybrush Threepwood TMI concepts.jpg? I'm definitely of the mind that this image is perfectly justified, and I've redone the caption and expanded the text in the design section to help accomodate it, but I suck at doing decent rationales to go with. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this article know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on February 14, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/February 14, 2011. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured article director, Raul654 ( talk · contribs). If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a 1979 American science fiction film released by Paramount Pictures. It is the first film based on the Star Trek television series. When a mysterious and immensely powerful alien cloud called V'Ger approaches Earth, destroying everything in its path, Admiral James T. Kirk ( William Shatner) assumes command of his old starship—the USS Enterprise—to lead it on a mission to save the planet and determine V'Ger's origins. When the original television series was cancelled in 1969, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry lobbied Paramount to continue the franchise through a film. Paramount instead planned on returning the franchise to its roots with a new television series, Star Trek: Phase II. The box office success of Close Encounters of the Third Kind convinced Paramount that science fiction films other than Star Wars could do well at the box office, so the studio canceled production of Phase II and resumed its attempts at making a Star Trek film. With the cancellation of the new television series, the writers rushed to adapt the planned pilot episode of Phase II, "In Thy Image," into a film script. Released in North America on December 7, 1979, Star Trek: The Motion Picture received mixed reviews from critics, many of whom criticized the film for its lack of action and over-reliance on special effects. The film earned $139 million worldwide, falling short of studio expectations but enough for Paramount to propose a cheaper sequel. Roddenberry was forced out of creative control for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. ( more...)
Hey David, Since you're an editor I have a great deal of respect for and I know that you're reasonable, I thought I might ask you about your earlier Wikipedia experiences.
You see, I recently archived my talk page and I caught some criticisms of me during my first three years of Wikipedia that I found pretty sharp and disenchanting. I suppose it kind of shook me a little. Since you're one of the top contributors for Wikipedia, I thought I might ask you, did you have troubles like this earlier in your Wikipedia career? I mean, only in the last year have I gotten very serious about Wikipedia and contributed top-quality material, but the earlier days were rough. So, can you relate somewhat? I feel a little stupid asking this question, but... On your User page you say that if someone wants to talk privately to you, to send you an email. Are you referring to some sort of wiki-email I am not familiar with? Or are you referring to normal, run-of-the-mill internet email through a regular ISP (Internet Service Provider)? If it is the latter, where does one find your email address. Sorry to bother you with such trivial questions, but I have a feeling you can be a good resource for simple technical questions in this domain... Thank you, warshy talk 20:32, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Now I see it. But this option appears only in the User's talk page, not on the main page. That's what threw me off here, I think. Now I will play a little with my own and learn how it works. Thanks a lot. warshy talk 20:59, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
My option "enable email from other users" in my profile is checked, as well as the other two. That is why asked if you can see the option to email me on my talk page, since I can't? Thanks for humoring me... Do you regularly follow pages of other users and also answer for them? Just curious, trying to learn the environment as much as I can... Thanks. warshy talk 21:16, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks David and Protonk for humoring me and answering my questions and explaining to me. I really found your User page very informative, David, so let me explore around a bit some new stuff I learned there, and I may be back later with some more technical questions. Thanks a lot again in the meantime. warshy talk 00:25, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Formal mediation of the dispute relating to Role-playing video game has been requested. As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. The process of mediation is voluntary and focuses exclusively on the content issues over which there is disagreement. For an explanation of what formal mediation is, see Wikipedia:Mediation Committee/Policy. Please now review the request page and the guide to formal mediation, and then, in the "party agreement" section, indicate whether you agree to participate. Hello, David. I just put Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows through an FAC and the one thing the reviewers agreed on is that the article didn't pass criterion 1a of the FA criteria. Since you have written many Featured articles (including one of the best film FAs, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan), I think that a good copy edit from someone like you could pass the article. WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of March. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 50. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hello.
If you watch a bit (just a little bit) closely, you will see that Pilot (House) is not a standalone article, since it is part of a TV show. Therefore, you can see that the other episodes from season 1 and onwards do have the complete Template:Infobox House (TV series) season 1 episode list and so, why suppress the list?... It is an action completely not uniform to the rest of the episodes and seasons.
I know, with many people editing, it is a bit difficult to set new standards. But I do care about things/articles following some uniform rules.
At least, take this into consideration. Thanks. 83.132.26.103 ( talk) 20:20, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi, David. I started work on Lawrence of Arabia (film) in hopes of getting it to Featured Article status by the film's 50th anniversary. I know that you prefer to cite a secondary source for the plot summaries of the Star Trek films, and I took a similar approach with Lawrence of Arabia, using a synopsis published online by the British Film Institute. I was reverted, though, and I started discussion on the talk page as seen here. Are my points similar to yours in using such sources for the summaries? Are there any other policies or guidelines that I can mention? I just think that the film's current plot summary is a little too creative for a description of the primary source. Erik ( talk | contribs) 00:17, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm a bit puzzled by one of your edits. I tried to refine the Hammerstein/Rodgers dynamic which caused them to do the play, and removed your hidden comment. Did I misunderstand what you meant? Perhaps it would be best if you explained it a bit more, as you restored the hidden comment. Many thanks for the review.-- Wehwalt ( talk) 19:19, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
David,
I agree with you that a plot is meant to summarize the story. However, because Halo:Reach is character-driven and focuses solely on Noble Team at the time of Reach's invasion, I think the deaths of the members of Noble should be elaborated.
If you disagree, just shoot me an email

DarthBotto talk• cont 06:10, 08 February 2011 (UTC)
What did you mean by "you could probably get away with a slightly larger image"? [4] Do you mean using 'frame' instead of 'thumb'? « ₣M₣ » 01:01, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
HEY lol « ₣M₣ » 19:44, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Just wanted to ping you on the topic of Gamesauce at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games/Sources#Gamesauce. I replied to your comment here, but had not heard back and don't want the discussion to close without a consensus one way or another. I know you're busy, but when you get time can you take a look? Thanks much! -- Teancum ( talk) 16:48, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
A strong oppose from me the first time around? To be wiki-young again. Ah, the nostalgia. Anyway, kudos for continue to churn out content even with the notoriously time-killing ArbCom duties. I was afraid I'd seen the last of your FAs for a while. -- Andy Walsh (talk) 17:19, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Hey Davis. Just wanna let you know about this new article. Halo 3: ODST OST GamerPro64 ( talk) 02:06, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, Guy546( Talk) 01:21, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi David, just got back from a long break and see that you are now on arb. Congrats!!!! Thanks for volunteering for such an .... icky .... duty :) Karanacs ( talk) 19:49, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi. I'm guessing this was unintended. I've reverted it. Cheers, Pichpich ( talk) 21:24, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, we hope we can see you in March. MuZemike delivered by MuZebot 00:28, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

I noticed that you had refrained from voting on the Rodhullandemu motion, but have since commented on WT:ACN about it. Might I ask why? Was it simply a time issue, or something else? NW ( Talk) 15:35, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Miss me? Hope all is well! Changing jobs, fiancees, houses, and other things kept me away from Wikipedia for a while, but I have been observing all this time. Great work on the Star Trek films! I wanted to run something by you, since you have done such amazing work on the Halo series, I wanted to propose that, if Factions of Halo was a GA, you could put the last two Halo Topics up for Good Topic, so every article in the projects jurisdiction would be in a good or Featured Topic! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Halo/possible_FTs#Potential.2Fin_progress_topics Thoughts?
