The question of capitalising of the letter "t" in The of The Beatles has been raised again. It appears that UK style references ( here and here) also maintains that the letter should be in lower case. If the Project is to be appear professional then it may have to change the format. Polite discussion is invited at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject The Beatles/Policy. If possible, please provide sources/references to support your position.

Hottest issue or concern for this month is the perennial matter of Project articles losing their Good or Featured Article status. The main Project page now includes a status board that gives the current ratings of some of the more important articles. Let's make sure the core articles ( The Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr) reach or retain Good Article status, if not Featured Article. If you are aware of another major article whose status is at risk, add it to the board.
Since there has been no response in the matter of the use of lowercase for the initial letter of the when applied with Beatles from the opponents, it is likely that the case for using lowercase only will be adopted as Project policy by default. User:LessHeard vanU will draw up a recommendation and submit it to the Policy talkpage in a few days.
We are pleased to welcome the contributions of Alexcalamaro to this newsletter. Any editor can include an item of interest or news; this medium can be an excellent tool for getting a comment seen by a great number of project members. As it says below, this is your newsletter. Citing non-online information is fine ... after all we had numerous people from Socrates to Lennon & Luthor King who never contributed on-line information. I will have a re-look at the school. It does look interesting and I was thinking of the school last week when I spotted/heard some US students looking at a Roman temple in France last week. Do perservere... Please do not remove references. External references are essential to a decent article, and that is one of the more important external references to this school. It can be stated as "A report in 2004" or something if you really think it's out-of-date, but if you read it carefully, it's reporting *a different statistic* than the IA website.
I really don't see what the problem is. The structure and referencing in the article is largely due to a huge rewrite I did a year ago. Prior to that it had zero referencing and was full of vandalism and other nonsense. I've supported your edits in the past. So what gives? Gimmetrow 02:01, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- I am sorry. But everytime you add those references and re-direct them to a previous reference, it works for a few minutes and then, upon refresh, it says Cite error 8; No text given. That's why I keep deleting the references.
- In addition, with regard to the statistic, it's true that it is accurate for the time, and that the article works for other parts of the website. However, if it is referred to as the first statistic for students obtaining IB degrees, people assume that it is the correct one. I'm a student at the school at about 5 out of each recent (as in, 2006 and 2007) graduating class (which are about 150 students) does not obtain the diploma, so that is closer to the later statistic. While I agree school websites might not be the most accurate places for giving a fair and balanced view of the school, I think the school website is more accurate. However, I support keeping the stat on there if the site makes it clear it was from 2004. Beggarsbanquet ( talk) 02:05, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- When you have a named ref, the text has to exist once. If you delete the "definition" then you get the error 8 stuff. The referenced paper is, I think, talking about a different statistic. It says that 88% of those *who enroll* go on to earn an IB degree. Not a percent of those who make it to senior year, but a percent of those who start as first-years. Apart from the usual vandals, there is an ongoing problem with Wikipedia editors deleting free and fair-use photos because they don't think they are of any value to articles, even though this sometimes leaves articles with no photos at all. These editors do not leave notes on talk pages, so if you see that a photo has vanished, check the talk page and the history log.
It's been a while, but the newsletter's back! After a short discussion on the project talk page, seemingly unanimous consensus to bring it back was reached. This issue, and subsequent ones, will probably be shorter - as we kept running out of things to say before! There's a lot to say this month, purely due to the long absence of a newsletter, but we'll keep it as brief as possible. In order to get delivery by Denbot sorted, the special delivery interface has been changed slightly - but existing delivery options still stand. Inactive participants who want delivery should place their names on this list. If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles. The great 'The/the debates' return. Just a glance at The Beatles' talk page will show you the massive amount of space this trivial issue takes up. Some editors have chosen to boycott these debates entirely, and we now have two separate entries in WP:LAME - The 'The/the debates' and the 'member order feud'. Consensus to use a capital 'T' was reached in a straw poll. Editors are reminded not to change the case of the 'T' without first changing consensus.

Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

I don't know you and you don't know me. I picked your user name from the list on page Wikipedia talk: Wikiprojekt The Rolling Stones. I regurlarly write on Swedish Wikipedia and I have a question that I would be very thankful if I could get an answer to. Just before the intro of the song On with the Show there's a sound of a man making some kind of an announcement. In the middle of it, it sounds like: "In Falköping they remember themselves". I've been searching thru the net here and there and everywhere and I can find the lyrics of the song, but not the "announcement" (that spoken words). Over and over again I've tried to hear what the man says, but he speaks too fast and English is not my mother tongue. Can you help me? What does the man say? The Wikimedia LGBTQ+ User Group is holding online working days in May. As a member of WikiProject LGBT studies, editing on LGBTQ+ issues or if you identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, come help us set goals, develop our organisation and structures, consider how to respond to issues faced by Queer editors, and plan for the next 12 months.
We will be meeting online for 3 half-days, 14–16 May at 1400–1730 UTC. While our working language is English, we are looking to accommodate users who would prefer to participate in other languages, including translation facilities.

It appears that UK style references ( here and here) also maintains that the letter should be in lower case. If the Project is to be appear professional then it may have to change the format. Hottest issue or concern for this month is the perennial matter of Project articles losing their Good or Featured Article status. The main Project page now includes a status board that gives the current ratings of some of the more important articles. Let's make sure the core articles ( The Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr) reach or retain Good Article status, if not Featured Article. If you are aware of another major article whose status is at risk, add it to the board.
Since there has been no response in the matter of the use of lowercase for the initial letter of the when applied with Beatles from the opponents, it is likely that the case for using lowercase only will be adopted as Project policy by default. User:LessHeard vanU will draw up a recommendation and submit it to the Policy talkpage in a few days.

Citing non-online information is fine ... after all we had numerous people from Socrates to Lennon & Luthor King who never contributed on-line information. I will have a re-look at the school. It does look interesting and I was thinking of the school last week when I spotted/heard some US students looking at a Roman temple in France last week. Do perservere... Please do not remove references. External references are essential to a decent article, and that is one of the more important external references to this school. It can be stated as "A report in 2004" or something if you really think it's out-of-date, but if you read it carefully, it's reporting *a different statistic* than the IA website.
I really don't see what the problem is. The structure and referencing in the article is largely due to a huge rewrite I did a year ago. Prior to that it had zero referencing and was full of vandalism and other nonsense. I've supported your edits in the past. So what gives? Gimmetrow 02:01, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- I am sorry. But everytime you add those references and re-direct them to a previous reference, it works for a few minutes and then, upon refresh, it says Cite error 8; No text given. That's why I keep deleting the references.
- In addition, with regard to the statistic, it's true that it is accurate for the time, and that the article works for other parts of the website. However, if it is referred to as the first statistic for students obtaining IB degrees, people assume that it is the correct one. I'm a student at the school at about 5 out of each recent (as in, 2006 and 2007) graduating class (which are about 150 students) does not obtain the diploma, so that is closer to the later statistic. While I agree school websites might not be the most accurate places for giving a fair and balanced view of the school, I think the school website is more accurate. However, I support keeping the stat on there if the site makes it clear it was from 2004. Beggarsbanquet ( talk) 02:05, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- When you have a named ref, the text has to exist once. If you delete the "definition" then you get the error 8 stuff. The referenced paper is, I think, talking about a different statistic. It says that 88% of those *who enroll* go on to earn an IB degree. Not a percent of those who make it to senior year, but a percent of those who start as first-years. Apart from the usual vandals, there is an ongoing problem with Wikipedia editors deleting free and fair-use photos because they don't think they are of any value to articles, even though this sometimes leaves articles with no photos at all. These editors do not leave notes on talk pages, so if you see that a photo has vanished, check the talk page and the history log.
It's been a while, but the newsletter's back! After a short discussion on the project talk page, seemingly unanimous consensus to bring it back was reached. This issue, and subsequent ones, will probably be shorter - as we kept running out of things to say before! There's a lot to say this month, purely due to the long absence of a newsletter, but we'll keep it as brief as possible. In order to get delivery by Denbot sorted, the special delivery interface has been changed slightly - but existing delivery options still stand. Inactive participants who want delivery should place their names on this list. If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy! The great 'The/the debates' return. Just a glance at The Beatles' talk page will show you the massive amount of space this trivial issue takes up. Some editors have chosen to boycott these debates entirely, and we now have two separate entries in WP:LAME - The 'The/the debates' and the 'member order feud'. Consensus to use a capital 'T' was reached in a straw poll. Editors are reminded not to change the case of the 'T' without first changing consensus.

Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

I don't know you and you don't know me. I picked your user name from the list on page Wikipedia talk: Wikiprojekt The Rolling Stones. I regurlarly write on Swedish Wikipedia and I have a question that I would be very thankful if I could get an answer to. Just before the intro of the song On with the Show there's a sound of a man making some kind of an announcement. In the middle of it, it sounds like: "In Falköping they remember themselves". I've been searching thru the net here and there and everywhere and I can find the lyrics of the song, but not the "announcement" (that spoken words). Over and over again I've tried to hear what the man says, but he speaks too fast and English is not my mother tongue. Can you help me? What does the man say? The Wikimedia LGBTQ+ User Group is holding online working days in May. As a member of WikiProject LGBT studies, editing on LGBTQ+ issues or if you identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, come help us set goals, develop our organisation and structures, consider how to respond to issues faced by Queer editors, and plan for the next 12 months.
We will be meeting online for 3 half-days, 14–16 May at 1400–1730 UTC. While our working language is English, we are looking to accommodate users who would prefer to participate in other languages, including translation facilities.
