Welcome to
WikiProject Women in Red (WiR)!
Our objective is to turn red links into blue ones. Our project's scope is women's representation on all language Wikipedias (biographies, women's works, women's issues, broadly construed). Did you know that, according to
Humaniki, only 19.81% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed?
Content gender gap is a form of
systemic bias, and this is what WiR addresses. We invite you to participate, whenever you like, in whatever way suits you and your schedule. Editors of all genders are equally and warmly welcome at Women in Red!
Authority control should be included at the foot of every biography: {{Authority control}}. It will remain hidden until relevant identifiers have been added to Wikidata.
Choose applicable Categories including relevant subcategories of
Category:Women.
If applicable, add a stub template at the foot of an article:{{stub}}.
The prizes will be virtual in the form of recognition of the top three contributors for each of the three months, with special recognition for the top contributor over the full three-month period.
In line with other Wikipedia contests, articles must have at least 160 words or 1,000 characters of running text (excluding references, lists, boxes and headings) and should have at least two reliable secondary references. While we encourage the creation of women's biographies, articles addressing the works or achievements of women of Oceania will also qualify. Articles which are not long enough can be listed separately but will not be taken into account for the contest.
In order to participate, contributors must be members of Women in Red. Anyone can register as a member by using the box on the
main WiR page.
Please use this article's talk page if you need assistance or wish to comment on the contest.
We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies of the many past and present notable women from Oceania, whatever their occupation or role. While our top priority is new biographies, articles about the works, organizations or achievements of Oceanic women are also welcome.
The main goals of the event are:
to extend coverage of Oceania women on the English Wikipedia
to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of prominent women
to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on this specific area
to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
to promote new articles and images through social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, other)
What else?
Below, you'll see a section where you can list the articles you create each month of the contest, and another section where you can add the images you have uploaded to Commons.
If you share an article from the contest on social media, please indicate you have done so next to the article name.
Thank you!

Newly created articles which meet contest rules: December
Please list in the order created (i.e. the oldest at the top). Participants should then list further articles immediately below the first article they create. This will help to establish the number of articles created by each participant. The sequence should be:
# {{flagicon|country}} [[article title]] new article by ~~~~, the four tildes representing user name and date created.
Remember articles need to have a running text or readable prose size of 160 words or 1,000 characters. Articles which are not long enough may be listed separately under "Newly created articles which do not meet contest rules: December". You can check the length of any article by using
Xtools article info and looking under "Prose" for characters and words. (Please do not use this tool to check more than two or three articles at a time or you will overload the system.)
