Although I use Wikipedia all the time, I never created an account until just now so I could take part in this discssion. If I have put it in the wrong place, please excuse me.
I am a music teacher, performer and specialize as a chamber music coach. I come to this page often as a resource to get me to other pages on Wikipedia and the net. I also send my students here. I was shocked to learn you are going to delete it. I agree with what Peter Klossbruhe has written. You will make a mistake by deleting this page. I am sure that there are lots of chamber music players that come to and use this page as a resource. There must be some other criteria besides notoriety in deterining the usefulness of a page entry. I encourage you to keep this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawrence Larry Block ( talk • contribs) 19:48, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi, You suggested a unopposed renaming of ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Prehistoric animals of Australia to ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Prehistoric animals of Oceania. Being confronted with the consequences, I am inclined to say this is perhaps not as useful as you might have had in mind. Australia is not only a continent (in the meaning of an agreed group of countries), but it is also a country and a continent in the geological sense. So there is nothing wrong with either ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Prehistoric animals of Australia or ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Prehistoric animals of Oceania, with PAoA being a subcategory of PAoO, not unlike ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Prehistoric animals of New Zealand.
Quite another issue is that Prehistoric animals and Prehistoric plants should constitute the subcategories of ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Fossils, but they currently do not. Fossils has a subcategory ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Fossils by country with 33 categories. Some of these have subcountry subcategories such as ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Fossils of British Columbia. Not very consistent with the unopposed renaming. Wikicommons has a much finer categorisation even. Love to hear your views on the matter. Kind Regards, Dwergenpaartje ( talk) 16:08, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

Perhaps I'm just dense, but I finally realized why WP spends so much effort on recruiting new edtiors, and so little on user retention. I ran across this gem posted as an apparent farewell on User talk:Baseball Bugs.
This paragraph is quite telling:
They're trying to thin out the males!
What exactly did Jimbo think a self-governing website run by knowledge geeks would look like? Especially when abrasive users such as the one being discussed here are allowed to run wild because they are considered to be "good contributors" by their enablers. It's quite puzzling, to be honest, but the Foundation's stuborn insistence on open editing, and no professional editorial and behavioral supervision isn't likely to improve either retention or recruitment in the long run. Why is it so difficult for the Foundation to understand that people, regardless of gender, don't gravitate to hostile working environments? Instead, as the article points out, they pushed Visual Editor on us! And the article makes it seem like the VE revolt was a bad thing!
As you probably know, one reason I'm semi-retired is because I lost most of my joy for the daily grind of edit wars and contentious discussions. Participating in the Aircraft carrier discussion was a major exception for me, and one I mostly regret. Far too much drama. Oh, WP:DRAMA is a quite interesting read, an inform the major problem of that discussion quite well, though not the deliberate disruption part, as far as I can tell.
Anyways, I honestly think that any effort spent on increasing experienced user retention would go a long way to making WP more user-friendly to newcomers. Am I just clueless on that too? - BilCat ( talk) 05:04, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Dear BushRanger,
While I appreciate your diligent efforts in keeping Wikipedia a valuable and verifiable resource, I must take issue with your edit to the Avenger UAS page. You deleted the information I added indicating the UAS's inability to comply with FAA regulations.
Obviously, you have the power to impose your will in scrutinizing edits, but that power should be tempered with a modicum of responsibility, reciprocity, and restraint in imposing your subjective views. My edit was supported by a credible and authoritative reference. Here are several more that support the fact that UAVs are currently unable to comply with 14 CFR 91.113 "Right of Way Rules":
Anyone familiar with the issue of UAS operation within the National Airspace System is aware that the issue of UAS inability to comply with 14 CFR 91.113 "Right of Way Rules" is the crux of what is preventing their deployment among airline traffic operating within the NAS. So, the factualness of my edit is unquestionable, and its premise is beyond doubt. If you disagree, please site credible, authoritative references that support your belief.
You cited "WP:RIGHT GREAT WRONGS," "Uncited," and "speculative" as your reasons for undoing my edit. First, I did cite a credible reference, so you've obviously erred in calling my edit "Uncited." With regard to your assertion that my edit was speculative, the documents at the additional links I have provided you above clearly establish the fact that UAS compliance with 14 CFR 91.113 "Right of Way Rules" has not yet been achieved. Your inference that my edit seeks to "right great wrongs as defined by Wikipedia" is unsupported. It is your subjective opinion, and I welcome you to provide the objective criteria you used to reach that erroneous conclusion.
Omitting the valuable information provided in my edit does a disservice to Wikipedia readers, because it withholds pertinent, accurate, and vital information on the subject UAS. I therefore request, that you undo your deletion of my edit, and continue to be an objective and reliable Wikipedia resource.
Thank you - — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.194.217.132 ( talk) 15:00, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

I just saw the deletion request for Joe Heck and your action here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Joe Heck. Even though it's closed, you might want to add something about the request being made based on vandalism, just for clarification. I was puzzled by it, especially when I glanced over the requestor's other user contributions. However, someone posted the point about the vandalism on his/her Talk page, and that seems logical, as an IP posted some ad for a business at the beginning of the article shortly before. The requestor may have been using a bot, as otherwise the rest of the article would have been obvious. At any rate, the request makes the requestor appear idiotic. I don't know why the requestor didn't retract the request, or at least post an explanation, but if s/he one day applies to be an Admin or something, it would reflect badly on him/her, and s/he would likely have no recollection of what happened. Beyond all that...you might want to contact him/her and point out the dangers of using a bot (or whatever) without further checking. Just a thought. Flatterworld ( talk) 18:35, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Next year's competition begins on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; it is open to all Wikipedians, new and old. Brainstorming and discussion remains open for how next year's competition will work, and straw polls will be opened by the judges soon. Those interested in friendly competition may also like to keep an eye on the stub contest, being organised by Casliber. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2014 competition. Thank you very much Bushranger for your helpful involvement in the recent disruption over at Lynx (spacecraft). I have just closed the third of three BRDs on that Talk page (the more complicated one, in which a number of primary sources had been deleted). On each one of those three BRDs, no consensus emerged to support the original edits. Your part in the wikidiscussion is very much appreciated.
Since the comments on the use of primary sources were spread all over that Talk page, I have endeavored to summarize the consensus that emerged in a section on that Talk page: Talk:Lynx_(spacecraft)#Use_of_Primary_sources. If you might be willing to review that summary, and comment on whether it got the consensus right, I would very much appreciate it. I will of course quite look forward to fixing it if I got anything wrong. Cheers. N2e ( talk) 12:45, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

And he just LIED to you TWICE, on top of everything else. First, I made no "replacing" or whatever garbage he calls it. Keyboard warrior to the rescue, how dare that person make an honest human mistake, can't have that, I'll teach him, I'm the keyboard warrior! I'll fix him and go crying to the principal again!" I very strongly object to the deletion of my article. Reasons given, such as "No evidence of long-term notability for a label (notable acts or releases, etc), no sourcing." is completely off. I provided links both to artists, articles and studios. As well as a picture of the entire discography. Please undo this deletion. There are tiny articles on Wikipedia, with almost no reference to anything. Whilst mine meet all criteria. I do intend to expand on it. But it is already a good article. Regarding you edit summary "we don't link this way" here. I went looking for the guideline toquote in my intended revert, but instead was quite surprised to find the opposite at Help:Interlanguage links#Inline links. Their link fits with "It is sometimes possible to combine the two approaches, giving a local red link in addition to an interlanguage link explicitly marked as such". In this case, it does follow guidelines, as is a useful link. As is quite comon on WP, is there a guideline somewhere else that forbids this? Thanks. - BilCat ( talk) 03:28, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

A year and a half ago you participated in those other four {{ afd}}, where the nominator tried to justify deletion by calling on the tenuous and not really applicable authority of WP:Notability (vehicles). In the current discussion someone referred to WP:SHIPS, a wikiproject page, not a special purpose notability guideline.
In my reply to Mangoe I suggested we could use a new special purpose notability guideline, or alternately add a new section to an existing special purpose guideline, that would address ships.
I think that new guidelines should address other elements of essential infrastructure, beyond ship -- including things like canals, dams, bridges, power plants, railroads, and expressways.
You suggested that all vessels over 100 feet merited inclusion. The USCG's Marine Protector class of cutters are only 87 feet. My rule of thumb has been whether the vessel was crewed by full-time employees. I considered basing it on the construction cost, but inflation makes that worthless.
So, do you think formalizing the convention we both recognized, into a specialty guideline, is worth trying? Geo Swan ( talk) 13:35, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

I've been building some new stubs for various ironclads and have attempted to create the appropriate hierarchical cats for ironclads of X and am having some odd issues with them not working properly. I hate to add more work for you, but I don't really understand all the cat templates and their interplay. The main issues are with ironclads of Argentina and Greece, but you might want to check on some of my Dutch ships as well. Recently, User:Oriole85 ( contribs) has been sporadically popping up on my watchlist for category-related changes. A lot of new users do that, so it wasn't a particularly noteworthy thing for me. But then he kept showing up with a higher frequency, oftentimes making (what I thought to be) completely unnecessary over-categorizations to articles. I've been on Wikipedia long enough to know that User:Levineps ( contribs) is one of the most notorious over-categorizers we've ever seen (and has the community sanctions, block records, and bans to show for it). So, I did about two minutes' worth of research and discovered that Oriole85's account was created / his edits began on November 5, 2013. When was the last edit by Levineps? November 4, 2013. That is not a coincidence IMO. I don't have (a) the time right now, nor (b) the motivation to formally open an SPI, but I'm hoping that one of the many people I'm notifying about this does. If you're wondering why you're being pinged about this, it's because I saw where you were one of the people who has left messages on Levineps' talk page at some point regarding his inappropriate editing. So now, in addition to all of the aforementioned issues with Levineps, it looks like a probably sockpuppet to throw into the mix. Jrcla2 ( talk) 05:29, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

I am unclear why you reverted my changes on Jerry Glanville's entry. I took out a lot of irrelevant (and generally unsourced) data about his supposed relationship with Brett Favre which, even if true, certainly is not "encyclopedic" in nature with respect to Mr. Glanville. It's unnecessary details. I also provided an Edit Summary at the time of the original update. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.70.81.154 ( talk) 22:11, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
I do think the information should be removed, as I stated in my original edit summary that it was irrelevant, but I'm not inclined to start a roundtable discussion about it. I noticed you blocked that one editor as being one of Ryan K's socks. He took part in the AFD for the Norfolk article. Does his edit to the AFD get reverted?
Another thing- Two IP editors based out of the UK, 85.210.175.111 and 86.145.34.52, have taken part in the AFD. Both without much of an edit history outside of the AFD and the Norfolk article. The first of the IPs chimed in a similar way to the banned sock of Ryan. I don't know for sure if these are also Ryan's socks, but I thought I'd bring it up. You are WP:INVOLVED with the AFD because you voted as did MilborneOne who also hunts down Ryan's socks, but I didn't know who else to mention this to.

Hi, This user constantly vandalising the page Iranian people and harass me. First, he claimed that Zarine Khan is an Indian. I've explainden that she is an ethnic Pashtun who live in India, not Indian and showed the source for it in the article but he continue vandalising and POV pushing. He complained me without using message pages or talk pages, but I did. When I showed him the source that the actress is Pashtun, he started to say that "Pashtuns are not Iranian" etc. Now he is extremely harrasing me, just look at his talk page and history of the page of Iranian people. I'll not stand for this and won't be intimidated. I've dealt with scum the likes that that user can't imagine, and I will NOT let a "keyboard warrior" like him pretend to be Mr. Tough Guy at my expense. I can and will provide prove of that user's abuse in the form of accounts from other innocent users, upon request. Thank you.
And he just LIED to you TWICE, on top of everything else. First, I made no "replacing" or whatever garbage he calls it. Second, heaven forbid I make an honest mistake, "oh my god the sky is falling someone made a mistake! Keyboard warrior to the rescue, how dare that person make an honest human mistake, can't have that, I'll teach him, I'm the keyboard warrior! I'll fix him and go crying to the principal again!" This garbage of his has gotten old and pathetic and MANY other's are sick of his garbage and petty stuff. He needs seriously to get a life. He also tried to claim that I falsely accused him of lying. This is pitiful, and yet predictable - every liar always says they are falsely accused of lying. He has lied on SEVERAL occasions about users, today is not the first. .. Fact is he falsely accuses me of making an inexcusable edit when in fact I went to edit the wrong page by mistake -- but instead of trying to find out what happened, he did what an opportunistic bully like him does and used it as a means to lie and say it was malicious. Could an admin take a look at User:New editor in training? Seems up to no good. It's contributions are definitely suspicious. I very strongly object to the deletion of my article.

I think you and I may agree, or more or less agree, that large vessels haven't had to experience what Mangoe called "particular incidents", in the past, in order to merit a standalone article here.
