I am currently working on my first article about a musical group (they do not have a wiki page).
First of all, I was able to organize an informal interview with this group and gathered information about the group themselves. Given that this information is unpublished (note that I do have all the evidence and messages we sent to each other), I was wondering if this would come under original research, and if it did, is there any way to not break this rule without having to publish this? I use Firefox for Windows and I have alerts and notifications configured. Still, Wikipedia only shows me alert and notification updates when I refresh a page or open a new page or do some action that updates a page, such as navigation or editing. While a wikipedia page is just open and the browser is running idle, no new alerts appear (until I refresh a page). I expected it to periodically check notifications such as via a javascript. Does Wikipedia update alert and notification status in a web browser while the browser is idle with a Wikipedia page open? Please share your experience. I read the documentation about alerts and notifications and didn't receive a reply to this question. Maxim Masiutin ( talk) 06:27, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

But as this text is actually just a super short version of the book, how can it be referenced? Is a reference to the book (which will be free, by the way) enough? It it a re-write of the history of an already existing page here Iver C. Weilbach & Co. which only includes the old book reference. The prize has been awarded since 2009, the organisation is well-established in European science. What else is needed? Incidentally, the German Wikipedia accepted my article, which is short and factual, without any problems. What kind of reference do the watch-dogs of Wikipedia request? Hi there, I edited a page which is now called "Islamist uprising in Syria" roughly 1-2 years ago. I visit it every now and then, however, I have noticed that the title has been changed and i strongly oppose the change. Although I agree with the change from "Islamic" to "Islamist" so as to not confuse it with something related to the religion and to make it more academic in language, however, it is very important to retain part of the old title which is "1976-1982" since Syria has a history of various islamist uprisings which should not be confused with each other. In fact, this is why the page itself begins with "not to be confused with the syrian civil war". I think it is a very important addition that should remain part of the title. I could not change it myself via the edit function, so i am writing this to ask for help on how to change it and perhaps to know why it was changed.

For example, if I write "Ketotifen receives regularly news coverage. Hi Wikipedians - I recently edited the Intimate relationship page, and I’m having trouble inserting a paragraph break in the lead section. I have inserted a break while editing, but then when I publish the page it just looks like a big block of text. Is there some code I can input to force a paragraph break? I didn’t have problems creating paragraphs in the rest of the article so I am confused! If anyone else is able to input one, I'm trying to start a new paragraph right before: "The course of an intimate relationship . . . "

Hi there,
I'm making a list: Draft:List of earliest tools and their use. I worked hard to make sure each item either has its own references, or links to another wikipedia page, but not both. I figure the other wikipedia pages have their own references and if I copy them, my list's references will just get out of date while the in-depth wikipedia pages' references get updated over time. But my reviewer rejected my draft for not including its own references for each item. How do you suggest I handle this? Should I just copy the references and never mind the issue of getting out of date? Or is there a better way to link to the in-depth wikipedia pages for a list? Or some other option I haven't thought of?
Thanks!

I added this photo to the article’s infobox, but was removed by another editor, stating: “Billy Woods historically wishes not to have images of his face posted or published. I submitted Draft:Moa Ilar for review and it was declined, and I really can't understand why. One of the reasons was "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources.", there are references to news coverage in mainstream media in the article.
Another reason was "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article". It clearly shows that she's won a world cup race, and they are not just "passing mentions".
It's probably a bit academic by now since another user created an article about her, but I'd like to understand the reason. JonasB ( talk) 15:11, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Is it acceptable to use the phrase X is best known for
Y in the lead of a biographical article? Or is it a form of original analysis? The practice is widespread and done on many articles. Even when the sources do not explicitly say "best known for", often a subject's notability is established as a result of what they are "best known" for. It could be seen as an opinion, but also often a self evident opinion. What do editors think? (Edit: given the comment below, clarifying that I asked because I have been reverted for using the term myself

thingyou're referring to is Draft:Osama Alsayed, then it's way WP:TOOSOON to be trying to create an Wikipedia article that person. What you're going to need to establish is the Alsayed meets Wikipedia:Notability (people) or Wikipedia:Notability (sports), and it appears that Alsayed has quite a ways to go before you or anyone else is able to do that. Just from reading the draft, it kind of seems that you're mistaking Wikipedia for social media or a personal website. Perhaps you should take a look at Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything for a general idea as to what kinds of subjects are considered OK to write about on Wikipedia. Not certain if this is where this goes but I wasn't certain where else it would go either.
I've been poking around all the pages, trying to figure out what to sink my teeth into, and it seems there are several 'careers' of sorts (copyeditor, anti-vandalism, etc.) that one can go into. Some (most?) of these specialties seem to have groups of experienced mentors who will train new users in said 'career'. However, in exchange for their time commitment, they want the mentee to make a commitment of their own to being a dedicated member of that 'career'. I do understand, their time is valuable, but I don't want to promise to do something I don't know whether I'll like or even be any good at? And yes, most of them have a 'no absolute newbies' standard which I don't currently meet, but you do have to get to a certain level of skill at something to figure out if you actually dislike it or if you're just bad at doing it so you're constantly frustrated by your own inability to make what you desire reality.
So I guess, TLDR, if you don't want to make promises you can't keep, do you just teach yourself? And for future reference, how long does it generally to take whether you're still not proficient with a skill or whether you just dislike using it?

Hello,
After the first deletion, I made extreme edits to make the article acceptable by Wikipedia. But, that version is also slated for speedy deletion. I actually mimicked the biography of a current article (replacing the person with my person) and it is still being flagged/deleted. How do I get it accepted if Wikipedia is no longer accepting an article that mimics a previously approved/published article?
Thanks. Noseallergy ( talk) 00:40, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Mimickingother existing articles doesn't make whatever your trying to write about Wikipedia notable since (1) it's possible those other article should've never been created to begin with and (2) the Wikipedia notability of those other subjects doesn't transfer to the subject you're trying to write about. What you're going to need to establish is that the person you're trying to write about meet Wikipedia:Notability (people). Finally, if your question is about Draft: Claudia Morales, then that draft was deleted by a Wikipedia administrator named Deepfriedokra for being too promotional for Wikipedia's purposes even as a draft. It also looks as if Deepfriedokra has explained this to you at User talk:Deepfriedokra#Page: Draft: Claudia Morales. Generally, those working on drafts are left alone to work at their own pace, and drafts are very rarely deleted by administrators unless they somehow violate a major Wikipedia policy. Apparently, Deepfriedokra felt that your draft was so promotional that it would need to be totally rewritten to even be acceptable as a draft. Deepfriedokra's assessment was also seconded by another Wikipedia administrator named Drmies. Does this mean that a Wikipedia article about " Claudia Morales" can never be created? That will depend on whether you're able to establish that (1) Morales satisfies one of Wikipedia's notability guidelines and (2) such an article can be written in a Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. Creating a new article can be a difficult process, particulary for new Wikipedians. Perhaps by working on improving existing Wikipedia articles, you become more familiar with Wikipedia's main policies and guidelines, and thus be better equipped to take another shot at creating an article about Morales at some point down the road. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 00:51, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Claudia Morales From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Claudia Morales, (born August 25, 1959) is an American interior designer based in Southern California. Early life and education Claudia Morales Morales was born in West Berlin, Germany, to an American serviceman and a German socialite mother. Growing up surrounded by the Berlin Wall, her formative years were spent alongside her two older sisters. In 1968, she commenced her education at an American school in Darmstadt, Germany, and later attended The John F. Kennedy School[1] in Berlin—a bilingual and bi-cultural German-American public school. This distinctive educational setting instilled in her the values of critical thinking, independence, and academic excellence, fostering an environment that embraced international diversity rooted in mutual respect and cooperation. Displaying an early aptitude for design aesthetics, Morales explored her interest in photography and interior design. She pursued her studies at the University of Maryland[2] in Munich, earning a degree in Arts, Pre-law, and Graphic Design. Subsequently, she ventured to New York City to delve deeper into her passion. In New York, Morales enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in 1982, obtaining a degree in Photography and Advertising Design. Her initial professional experiences included photographing print ads and engaging in fashion photography. Subsequently, Morales relocated to San Diego, California, engaging in various creative pursuits that laid the foundation for her subsequent endeavors in Los Angeles. Career Upon settling in Los Angeles, Morales immersed herself in film and television post-production, assuming diverse creative roles. Her specialization included colorization for black-and-white films and serving as an art director for color effects in films, commercials, and music videos. She contributed to renowned projects such as New Line Cinema's motion picture " Pleasantville" and Judy Garland’s black-and-white television performances. Transitioning from her successful career in film and television, Morales pursued her dream of becoming an interior designer. She earned a degree in interior design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), culminating in the founding of Claudia Interior Design[3] [1] in 2001—a firm focused on the transformative design of kitchens and bathrooms. Design Style and Influences Bathroom Design Morales's design style seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with functionality, drawing inspiration from design luminaries such as Richard Avedon, Charles & Ray Eames, Le Corbusier, Saarinen, Elsie de Wolfe, Syrie Maugham, and Eileen Gray. Her designs feature open concepts, a motif inspired by her experiences in Rome in 1988. Awards and recognition An active member of the American Society of Interior Designers[4] (ASID) since 2004, Morales has received the Best of Houzz award annually from 2015 to 2022 for both design and service. I'm new here & trying to figure out how all this works. I asked a question on Gait:Talk but didn't get a reply so thought I'd ask it here.
In the Gait article, I'm interested in adding a section called Gait Types that would give a description of various gait types (e.g., walk, trot, gallop, etc.) While various gaits are mentioned in this article, it doesn't give a description of each one. Is this the best article to add such a list? Or, is there a better place to put the list. Once the list is added, then when other articles mention a particular gait, it can be linked here, so the description of the gait does not have to be repeated. Most of the info would be from Elbroch's "Mammal Tracks & Sign". Wanted to get people's opinions, as once I spend the time to create the list, I didn't want it to be immediately deleted if people thought it was not useful. Is it useful to start creating articles from red links on User:Graeme_Bartlett/missing_chemicals? I noticed that some of these articles might already exist or have disambiguation-style articles already (e.g., a listed missing article is Amyl bromide, but this is covered under Bromopentane though the specific chemical amyl bromide is referring to does not have its own article (which would probably be titled 1-Bromopentane). The info on most of these pages I would be creating would have a basic chembox with information from Pubchem/Chemspider and a physical description from CAMEO, maybe some uses if they're easily found on Pubchem literature. I'm trying to update and correct the entry but am thwarted. Under endnote 43, would someone please add pp. 80, 105-06, and 118. And please eliminate the automated notations at the ends of notes 43 and 44. In note 49, the surname is Fielding, not Mantle.
The notes are out of order in the text: see note 18 after 33. In note 13, it's odd to include the street address of the press. I would put this book: Genius of Gilbert Stuart under Bibliography.
In the top row of the illustrations, can you replace Jacob Rodriquez Rivera (not by Stuart) with William Curtis, dated 1775? Curtis is at Wikidata.org/wiki/Q460867. It is by Stuart and would fit there because of the date. Many thanks if you can do this.

Hello. This is my first visit to Teahouse about my first new article draft. I intend to soon submit my article Draft:PLEXUS West Coast Women’s Press for review.
A problematic issue is the draft’s use of a photo (of the early PLEXUS staff) from the August 15, 1974 edition of the now-defunct Berkeley Barb newspaper. User:Peaceray a helpful editor has given me some preliminary suggestions ( Draft talk:PLEXUS West Coast Women’s Press) about my draft article, including the suggestion to bring this question to the Teahouse for advice.
I wrote: “One of the images, an early staff photo, was published by the Berkeley Barb whose full archive is now available open access on JSTOR. I have gotten in touch with the copyright owner, oldest child of the now-deceased publisher. They indicated an intent to give me permission to use the photo from their article, but they are traveling overseas right now. I could use some advice about how to convert that intent-to-permit into a form that Wikipedia will accept.”
Can someone guide me in obtaining copyright permission in the correct form from the holder?

Hello,

It was rejected on the following grounds:

This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.
Having read the eight academic-specific criteria, it is clear that Prof. Bhamla meets several of these. I have also cited reliable secondary sources (e.g., NSF, NIH, etc.) to support this assertion.
I do need some help on the advertisement vs encyclopedia rejection. Most academic bios are written in the form that I supplied, but any tips on converting it into an encyclopedia-style diction would be appreciated.

Like what if i find it for sale on amazon or something, would that count? Years ago I was told by an admin on here that archive url's from Wayback Machine, Archive.today etc, should only be added to references if the original url is dead, and it was apparently a policy.
I agreed with them as adding Archive url's to live url's make it look like they're dead, so someone less experienced might decide to replace them with a different link, or remove them altogether, without clicking on the link itself to see if it is actually dead.
A couple of weeks ago I noticed an admin (who has only been on Wikipedia for a few years, yet became an admin almost immediately) adding archive url's to every single reference on an article, so I told them what that admin told me.
They haven't replied to my reply, although someone else has, and they've said that they do the same, and isn't against policy. Danstarr69 ( talk) 19:43, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Anoka Post Office (has a location map, a local map, as well as state and country) Fort Snelling (state map only) Fort Payne Depot Museum (state and country maps) Blood Run Site (no maps, just pictures)
Some archaeological sites are "address restricted" such as: Big Gyp Cave Pictograph site (but the county where it is located is mentioned and could be mapped?)

For stand-alone article about books, where the image is being added to main infobox at the top of the article for primary identification purposes, then adding a non-free book cover is probably OK; for other types of articles or other types of uses, chances are that's it's not. --

Hello everyone,
As a new content editor on Wikipedia, I am currently facing challenges in uploading a picture. I have obtained explicit permission from the copyright holder/author, clearly stated in an email. They have granted me permission to reuse the picture for public documentation and as a memorial for the person depicted. However, the same picture is published on their website without any attached license. I am unsure about the correct steps to secure permission, especially since my intent is to use the picture non-commercially. Any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Plantton ( talk) 18:42, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
as a memorialaren't sufficient per Wikipedia's copyright policy. What is needed is for the copyright holder to give their WP:CONSENT (or c:COM:CONSENT) and this basically means that the copyright holder agrees in advance to give everyone one in the world permission to reuse the photo anyway they want at anytime they want with only some minimal restrictions to meet. So, before you upload anything, you might want to ask the copyright holder of the photo to take a look at this Creative Commons license information page about some licenses commonly considered OK for Wikipedia purposes. Please note that Wikipedia doesn't accept any license that places restrictions on commercial reuse or derivative reuse (as explained in Wikipedia:Copyrights), unless it's being licensed as non-free content, which has its own specific policy in addition to Wikipedia:Image use policy. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 22:34, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

I submitted Draft:Moa Ilar for review and it was declined, and I really can't understand why. One of the reasons was "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources.", there are references to news coverage in mainstream media in the article.
Another reason was "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article". It clearly shows that she's won a world cup race, and they are not just "passing mentions".

You might also want to take a look at Wikipedia:Alternative outlets for some wesbites which might be better suited to what you're trying to do. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 07:30, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello,

It was rejected on the following grounds:
and
This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia.

(you need to get the spaces, punctuation, etc exactly right, so I suggest copying and pasting).if i am adding a book infobox image according to fair use rules, does it matter where i found the picture? Like what if i find it for sale on amazon or something, would that count? Again, I would fill in the wizard guidelines all separately and properly, but just wondering if where i find the image matters a whole lot. Does it need to officially be from the publisher?

Greetings to all! I have a technical question: I have just created the article Batak Hydropower Cascade and in the infobox there is a repeating image, which I have not added. I guess there is some kind of automatic connection between the article and the image, and I really don't want to have it in the infobox, and even less, to have it three times. Since I would most likely not easily understand how to overcome these issues, I would highly appreciate if someone could edit out the images.
And another question: is it possible to add the geographic map of Bulgaria in the infobox, instead of the current one.
Sorry if the questions are mundane, but I am really terrible in all technical aspects of editing. Thank you in advance. -- Gligan ( talk) 19:07, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Specifically, there seems to be an issue with citations and how many are needed. There seems to be no consensus on how many citations a subject needs. How many citations should a good wikipedia article have? How can I find worthy citations outside of google (Tools, resources, etc?)
ALSO: Seeing as how OTHERSTUFFEXISTS isn't valid argument to base the quality of an article/page:

Hi teahouse, can anyone point me to a style guideline, essay, or discussion anywhere about the use of photos of corpses in articles? I'm of course aware of WP:NOTCENSORED, but it's very normal for press and publishers to have some kind of guideline on when they are useful and when they are crossing a line (into voyeurism, privacy/rights violations, tastelessness, and all kinds of other reasons), and I expect we've had that discussion somewhere. -- asilvering ( talk) 23:42, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
Hello Teahouse Community!
Good day to you all. I have a question regarding my draft, Draft:Together Price, which has been declined a couple of times. I was wondering if the sources below are reliable. If you could also check the page itself, that would be great.

The preview for Hell Gate currently shows me a picture next to space for text, but without any text in it. Looking at the wikitext, the article starts with two images, the first with a landscape and the second with a portrait orientation. The one in the preview is the portrait one. Is this a known issue?

Looking for some guidance on best practice. I'm reading around in National Register of Historic Places pages and see variations in the maps offered in the right side bar. See these examples:
Anoka Post Office (has a location map, a local map, as well as state and country) Fort Snelling (state map only) Fort Payne Depot Museum (state and country maps) Blood Run Site (no maps, just pictures)
Some archaeological sites are "address restricted" such as: Big Gyp Cave Pictograph site (but the county where it is located is mentioned and could be mapped?)
What's the best practice for maps for these National Register pages? Because they are all in the National Register of Historic Places, is it valuable to standardize this sidebar information?
Thanks, y'all. BilCen ( talk) 16:26, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
I've found and changed a few sections titled "Aftermath" to "Plot Summary" for a few prowrestling tv specials. When I clicked see also, I just kept finding more. Am I wrong to update these, or does Wikipedia prefer an in-universe description for these shows? Should I continue? Ultraneutral ( talk) 08:49, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello! I'm a fairly inexperienced editor and noticed the Childhood studies article had very little in text citations and also just some obvious issues with its content. I've made some small edits but I'm really struggling with finding reliable sources of information when it comes to writing about the history of the field, since searching tends to only reveal articles from the field itself. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Sillypilled ( talk) 18:46, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

parameter, then I suggest you just don't automatically assumethat a non-free book cover should be added to every article listed in the category.

Hey there! I could really use some help with submitting my draft for Raegan Revord. I messed up and accidentally deleted the template that shows the submit for review.
