It is located in the center of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,415 square kilometers (932 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Verkhoshizhemye. [1] Population: 9,483 ( 2010 Russian census); [3] 10,878 ( 2002 Census); [7] 12,849 ( 1989 Soviet census). [8] The population of Verkhoshizhemye accounts for 45.9% of the district's total population. [3]
