Verkhnekamsky District ( Russian: Верхнека́мский райо́н) is an administrative [1] and municipal [5] district ( raion), one of the thirty-nine in Kirov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 10,297 square kilometers (3,976 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the town of Kirs. [1] Population: 32,669 ( 2010 Russian census); [3] 39,643 ( 2002 Census); [7] 54,171 ( 1989 Soviet census). [8] The population of Kirs accounts for 31.9% of the district's total population. [3]
The Dymnoye peat narrow-gauge railway for hauling peat operates in the district.
