It is located in the east of the oblast. The area of the district is 5,171 square kilometers (1,997 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the town of Omutninsk. [1] Population: 44,793 ( 2010 Russian census); [3] 51,406 ( 2002 Census); [7] 59,218 ( 1989 Soviet census). [8] The population of Omutninsk accounts for 52.7% of the district's total population. [3]
