It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,773 square kilometers (685 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Svecha. [1] Population: 8,517 ( 2010 Russian census); [3] 10,229 ( 2002 Census); [7] 12,229 ( 1989 Soviet census). [8] The population of Svecha accounts for 55.9% of the district's total population. [3]
