Dates must not be wikilinked.

But I thought they should be, I do not understand this.

Michael Devore suggested that I convert the episodes into a list similar to the Execl Saga list, I agree with him but I do not know how to integrate the pics with the list. GAN Reviews

Hi,

This is a reply to your note on my talk page. Actually, I was thinking about this after seeing the backlog on GAN. However, I've only reviewed one article for GAN and have been nervous about doing another because I am a relative newbie and don't want to lower the quality of the GA program by passing an article which shouldn't (I think GA is one of the best programs for Wikipedia). So, what I was going to propose is that I review an article and then, perhaps, you could take a look at my review and advise me on any recommended improvements I could make to it? In other words, we could have a brief GAN coaching.

Good article reviewer, dot maps

Thank you for suggesting the good article review possibility. I have been thinking that I might someday volunteer for review work. I've been wanting to build my base of Wikipedia-specific knowledge before plunging in, but I will probably do so later this winter. Meanwhile, I'm trying to improve my map-making skills. I've downloaded and installed Paint.net, and I'm trying to figure out how people add the red dots to locator maps. I'm looking at Chester, Pennsylvania, which is close to the Leiper Canal; I created the Leiper Canal stub in the fall, and I'd like to embellish it. The Chester infobox has three maps in it, one of which is a red dot map, "Location of Chester in Pennsylvania". When I click on the map, I'm whisked away to Image:Pennsylvania Locator Map.PNG, one of your maps. But it doesn't have the red dot embedded in it. Where does the red dot come from? Does code in the geobox template read the map coordinates and place the dot automatically? Since no infobox seems to exist for canals, do I need to add the dot "by hand" and create a separate image to upload to the Commons? Any advice about these arcane matters would be appreciated. I picked the Leiper Canal to work on because it was one of the shortest. My best source uses "several" miles for the length, and since he is usually so precise, it may be that nobody knows the exact number. Most of the canal has been destroyed, and some of the "canal" might have been deep slackwater on Crum Creek near the Delaware River. So, I know where the one terminus was but not precisely (yet) where the other was. I have considered using a single approximate red dot or maybe just one for the lower terminus or drawing a line on a map to represent "several", but I would need a footnote explaining that the map might not conform to reality. Unless I can find a better source or pinpoint the upper terminus from language about the Leiper family's properties and stone-hauling business, I might be stuck with such a footnote. Meanwhile, I've been asked to keep a promise to help with Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and the canals will have to wait. That's OK, because I like not knowing exactly what each day will bring or which task(s) will jump to the head of the line. Finetooth ( talk) 17:04, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Choess sent me some further data. I used it and what you had sent to look up a specific address for the Leiper House Museum, which I had not heard of before. It turns out to be at 521 Avondale Road, in Wallingford. Using that address as the upper terminus of the canal, I ran a MapQuest query to confirm the distance from the Leiper house along Crum Creek to the Delaware River at three miles or so close to it that I can call it three and feel satisfied. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to make a map of England for the Austen articles. It has been suggested that a map with relevant Austenian locations would help readers. Cache

Oh, that's what it is. I had forgotten about the cache problem, and I was wondering why in the world my updates were not "taking". In fact, I was gnashing my teeth just about the time your explanation came through. I cleared my cache, and everything looks OK. I actually thought at one point I was overwriting :Image:Shackleton Endurance Aurora map2.png but instead uploaded :Image:Shackleton Endurance Aurora map2.PNG. Because three articles are linked to the "png" version, which still contained the Minna Bluff error, I uploaded again, this time succeeding in overwriting "png" with a corrected "png". Now both PNG and png are correct though duplicative. A third version with a slightly different name and even more errors is also sitting there from a similar goofy session a few days ago, waiting to be deleted. No time for the L&B yet, I'm afraid, but a piece of gossip: the last segment of the Lewisburg and Tyrone Railroad is supposedly about to breathe its last gasp. The last remaining equipment in Mifflinburg was hauled out January 8 in the first move over the line in years [4], and rumor has it the track will be lifted to become a rail-trail this summer. A request for help on a completely new, unrelated topic

Hey there, hope all is well. So, one of my unrelated to Shackleton/pied-noir interests is France in general and I've been screwing around adding with Template:Infobox_Paris_metro (specifically the Paris map at the bottom of the infobox). Anyway, I've noticed your the local map expert...so, I've got a question. I've got the map to load with the correct geographic area corresponding to each metro station. However, for the life of me I cannot get the darned thing to center inside of the infobox.....do you have any ideas? Ya, it does work the majority of the time. The only instances where the map doesn't center in the box correctly is when (I think) the top image is when either the text or top image is larger than the map width. I have a great pic of Pecks Pond in Monroe County that I would like to upload. I need some help. What township is it in? It is the source of Bush Kill which flows into the Delaware. I will probably use the pic in Porter Township. For Worlds End I think that of course the creek with swimming area labled and the whitewater zones. I believe that rafting is not permitted in the swimming area. The trails, cabins, main entrance and parking area, ranger station too if there is one. I will be able to tell more when I see a rough draft. I would assume the same will apply for Black Moshannon. Definetly need to include the natural area, bogs, historic towns if possible. Thanks for the offer. I'm working on the suggestions right now. I'm suprised that the review was closed suddenly since things were still ongoing, so I sent a note to the owner of the bot. It's probably just as well, because this way I don't feel under a lot of pressure to address the comments raised as quickly. And, thanks for the sympahty. I guess I'm sensitive about the article because I am the sole author (aside from minor edits by a few people) and in some sense I see the whole thing as a validation of my work on Wikipedia becuase I haven't recieved much else in the way of acknoledgement. I, too, want to say great work. I was wondering why, though, you can't at least restore the NRHP infobox. I see what you were doing with all the maps and how that caused problems, and I know articles aren't required to have them and you certainly proved it wasn't necessary, but I still think it would be good for the readers to have a quick extraction of salient facts available. and for an NRHP project FA to have the same infobox.

Getting Upper Pine Bottom up to GA would be the mother of all accomplishments. Maybe I should systematically go through the parks and check the GNIS refs. I still have alot of in line refs to do there too. For now I am somewhat obessed with getting infoboxes in the PA municipalities. I had planned on just Tioga County, but things changed from there. Wiki work will never end. I think I might write up the Grange Fair in Centre Hall for my next DYK. I will have to check the resources available. Have a good one. Thanks for those links ... I knew there was a similar database for PA to the one NYORPHP maintains (and it uses PDF instead of JavaScript, to the relief of my eyes). I'll see if I missed anything on those other Scranton RHPs.

Yes, Steamtown is the NHL known officially as Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad Yard-Dickson Co. Manufacturing Facility. Or something like that.

NY and PA NHL Lists

Hi -- I wonder if you could provide an assist in the development of List of National Historic Landmarks in New York towards Featured List status, perhaps just by visiting and commenting upon it in its Talk page. There are not yet any NHL list articles that have been elevated to Featured List, so standards aren't entirely clear. Also I don't have any previous experience with attaining a FL or a FA, while i know u have successes with both. I do prefer for NRHP list articles to have good development of the NRHP sites they index, and a lot has been done. However this the biggest state list (it has 257 NHLs in two parts), and it is easy to get bogged down for a long time in implementing any specific additional improvement to the site descriptions or to the 257 articles it covers. It would be nice to get to FL status efficiently. Daniel Case, Dmadeo, and I have done the most work on it, though several others have also contributed on multiple NHLs. Sullivan County

The list looks pretty good. I am working on checking it out. I don't think it will take long to get to FL. I was going to work on Black Mo but forgot to bring some printed resources, oh well. I found refs for the settlement dates of Forksville and Dushore. I cannot access the forksvillestore ref at work. You may want to look it up and make sure I am correct with the title, publisher, etc. I used both references when I placed the infoboxes in the articles. I've been looking on the web for something similar to the Meginness book for Sullivan County. Not much luck yet. There is a rootsweb page that has tons of family histories. I had taken the refs out of the lead then added them back after looking at Larrys Creek which has refs in the lead. Now I am confused Bobby Robson has no refs in the lead, but Tech Tower does. Tin Brook pic

Thanks for the compliment (you weren't the only one to make one, see the talk page). I do like the colors and the reflection in the water. However past experience with picture reviewing has convinced me that I would have to correct some things: the purple fringing along the leaves and branches with sky behind them; the fact that the sky itself is sort of blown and the distortion along the edges. There is, however, an absence of noise, which has frequently deterred me from submitting things either to PPR here or QIC on commons.
