As far as the team chart goes on the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, can we compromise to get rid of the team colors and keep the sponsors because they are pertinent to the drivers getting rides and drivers switching to new teams and numbers (eg, Kurt Busch switching to #22 and taking Shell-Pennzoil with him)? I notice that you changed the image used at Template:NASCAR-stub. That image shows up poorly - we have to do better. I do like the image that you told me about at Commons (great job - crystal clear!) and I'd rather see it used than what's used now on SO many pages. Even the single picture that I uploaded (so far) from the Road America Nationwide race is better ( File:Bucyrus200RoadAmerica2010FieldStarting.jpg). The picture used is way too blurry. As usual, please reply here on your talk page to keep the thread together. Royal broil 02:39, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Article of the month –
2010 Toyota/Save Mart 350, new
Good Article.
The 2010 Toyota/Save Mart 350 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held on June 20, 2010 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. Contested over 110 laps, it was the sixteenth race of the 2010 Sprint Cup Series season and the first of two road course competitions on the schedule. The race was won by Jimmie Johnson, for the Hendrick Motorsports team. Robby Gordon finished second, and Kevin Harvick, who started fourth, clinched third. Conditions were sunny at the start of the race, making the track potentially slippery. Pole position driver Kasey Kahne maintained his lead into the first corner, but Johnson, who had started in the second position on the grid, took the lead before the first lap was over. Kahne suffered an ill- handling car during the beginning of the race, causing him to fall to seventh by the sixth lap. Seven laps before the finish, race leader Marcos Ambrose, turned his car off to try to save fuel, but he could not refire the engine and subsequently stalled. He dropped back from the lead to sixth place with seven laps remaining, allowing Kahne to finish fourth and Jeff Gordon fifth. There were eight cautions and twelve lead changes among eight different drivers throughout the course of the race, Johnson's fourth win of the season and his first ever at Infineon. The result moved him up four spots to second in the Drivers' Championship, 140 points behind of leader Kevin Harvick and one ahead of Kyle Busch. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, nine points ahead of Toyota and forty-three ahead of Dodge, with twenty races remaining in the season. Nascar1996,
I'm a regular Signpost reader (and I especially enjoy the WikiProject Report), and I noticed your comment about wanting to clear the unassessed articles backlog at WP:NASCAR. After familiarizing myself with the assessment department's guidelines, I was able to clear the backlogs for both the "unassessed" and "unknown-importance" categories. I just wanted to let you know that getting your message out in the Signpost is a really good way to raise your profile and reach out to curious Wikipedians (like myself) who otherwise never would have stumbled across the project. Also, I really enjoyed reading the report on WP:NASCAR. Keep up the good work!

2010 Food City 500, a recent good article
The 2010 Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee was the fifth race of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. The race began at 1 p.m. EDT on March 21, 2010. The 2010 Food City 500 was televised on Fox and broadcast on PRN radio. This race marked the last appearance of the rear wing on the Car of Tomorrow, with the spoiler returning the following race. This race also was the first of three in Carl Edwards' probation following his altercation with Brad Keselowski at the previous race at Atlanta Motor Speedway; Keselowski was sent airborne, subsequently crashing on his side door. The race had 13 different leaders, 39 lead changes and 10 cautions. The race attendance of 138,000 marked the end of a long streak of sellout seats at the track, which has a capacity of 158,000. The race had been a sellout since 1982. ( More...)

While reverting vandalism, I reverted what may have been a good edit. This diff outlines a change made to the Showtime Southern 500 article in which an IP user deleted the 1950-1959 winners of the Southern 500. The same winners list can be found in this article, which deals with the "Southern 500". I reverted the deletion on principle, but I am not a NASCAR guy and I'm not very familiar with the history under discussion. The edit certainly could be correct. Because you were a contributor to the article, I'm hoping that you have an interest in and knowledge of the topic, and a willingness to either vet the deletion or the reversion. Thanks! 2010 Carfax 400, a recent good article
The 2010 Carfax 400 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race that was held on August 15, 2010 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. Contested over 200 laps, it was the twenty-third race of the 2010 Sprint Cup Series season. The race was won by Kevin Harvick for the Richard Childress Racing team. Denny Hamlin finished second, and Carl Edwards, who started twenty-fourth, clinched third. Pole position driver Kasey Kahne maintained his lead into the first corner to begin the race, but Jimmie Johnson, who started in the second position on the grid, took the lead before the first lap was over. Afterward, Greg Biffle became the leader, and would eventually lead to the race high of 66 laps. Tony Stewart led after the final pit stops, ahead of Hamlin and Harvick. Harvick helped Hamlin to become the leader, but with twelve laps left, Harvick gained on Hamlin and claimed the first position with eleven lap remaining. Harvick maintained his position to claim his first Sprint Cup victory at Michigan International Speedway. There were five cautions and nineteen lead changes among nine different drivers throughout the course of the race, Harvick's third win of the season. The result maintained the first position in the Drivers' Championship and clinched him a position in the Chase. He remained 293 points ahead of second place driver Jeff Gordon and 353 ahead of Denny Hamlin. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, thirty points ahead of Toyota and sixty-one ahead of Ford, with thirteen races remaining in the season. A total of 105,000 people attended the race, while 4.917 million watched it on television. To answer your question about the Top 35 owner's standings: Some people do care about whether their driver is inside the Top 35, especially Robby Gordon fans. I put the team's owners names instead of the drivers because sometimes they will rotate drivers, especially the Front Row Motorsports team. I will update it as often as need, but if you not want me to put something like that in the 2011 editon, I understand. If I do not have such a section, is there a way we can mention in the race report if a team moves in or out of the Top 35?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Diddlyman2004 ( talk • contribs) 21:38, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
I usually look at Jayski and NASCAR for driver and team updates. If there is a confirmed driver change, I update the pages. On my Top 35 standings, I only list the position, car number, owners, points from 35th. In the case of Tommy Baldwin Racing or Front Row MOtorsports, it does get confusing to update the driver constantly. If the drivers change cars within the team, it would impossible to constantly update (Travis Kvapil has driven the 34, 37, and 38 this year). I was also wondering if we could put the Jayski entry list in the qualifying section or updated owner's point standings in the race summary. Diddlyman2004 ( talk) 13:36, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
You found this article and didn't think to tag it for speedy deletion? I'm all for giving newbies a break, but I think there are cases where you just have to bring out the hook. WikiDan61 ChatMe! ReadMe!! 20:37, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
On Haruki De Baptiste, why did you place cleanup tags? Looking at the content of the article and the name of the person who created it, it's pretty obvious it's just something silly that somebody wrote about himself. Placing other tags on it makes it look like a legitimate article and can make the deletion process take longer. Kansan ( talk) 00:05, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Sure, no problem. May as well do something while awake for the Korean practice session. Cs-wolves (talk) 01:41, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
On the restart, on lap 89, Jimmie Johnson led them to the green flag. On the following lap, David Reutimann, with assistance from Jeff Gordon, passed Johnson, but Reutimann, on lap 91, was passed by Gordon. Jeff Gordon led until lap 92 because Kyle Busch passed him. On lap 94, Kasey Kahne passed Busch to become the 25th leader in the race, but two laps later Regan Smith passed him for the lead. One lap later Kasey Kahne reclaimed the lead. On lap 100, the fourth caution came out as a result of Regan Smith's engine blowing up in smoke. There were 3 lead changes under caution; the drivers who led were Denny Hamlin, Mark Martin, and Greg Biffle. On lap 105, Greg Biffle led the field to the green flag. A lead change happened on lap 106 with Denny Hamlin passing Biffle. Two laps later, Joey Logano passed Hamlin, but on lap 111, he was passed by Brian Vickers. On the next lap, Logano reclaimed the lead from Vickers. On lap 113, Kyle Busch passed Logano, but after a lap of leading, he was passed by A.J. Allmendinger. Then, on lap 117, Johnson passed Allmendinger for the lead, but on the next lap A.J. Allmendinger reclaimed the lead.
At the lap 89 restart, Jimmie Johnson led the field to the green flag, but on the following lap, David Reutimann – with assistance from Johnson's team-mate Jeff Gordon – passed Johnson, but Reutimann himself was passed by Gordon on the next lap. Jeff Gordon led until lap 92 before Kyle Busch passed him and led two laps, until Kasey Kahne passed him on lap 94 to become the 25th leader in the race, leading two laps before Regan Smith passed him for the lead. Kahne reclaimed the lead on lap 97 and held the lead until the race's fourth caution on lap 100 when Smith's engine blew. There were 3 lead changes under caution; the drivers who led were Denny Hamlin, Mark Martin, and Greg Biffle. Biffle led the field to the green flag for the lap 105 restart, with Hamlin retaking the lead on lap 106. Hamlin's Joe Gibbs Racing team-mate Joey Logano passed Hamlin for the lead on lap 108, but on lap 111, he was passed by Brian Vickers. The lead then changed for the next three laps, with Logano taking Vickers for the lead at first, the third Joe Gibbs car of Kyle Busch passed Logano on the following lap before he was passed by A. J. Allmendinger on the 113th lap. Allmendinger held the lead until lap 117, when Johnson passed him for the lead, but would return to the head of the field the lap after.
Glad to be of assistance. Cs-wolves (talk) 18:32, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Article of the month –
Alan Kulwicki, selected as a good article
Alan Dennis Kulwicki (December 14, 1954 – April 1, 1993), nicknamed "Special K" and the "Polish Prince", was an American NASCAR Winston Cup Series (now Sprint Cup Series) racecar driver. He started racing at local short tracks in Wisconsin before moving up to regional stock car touring series. Kulwicki arrived at NASCAR, the highest and most expensive level of stock car racing in the United States, with no sponsor, a limited budget, and only a racecar and a borrowed pickup truck. Despite starting with meager equipment and finances, he earned the 1986 NASCAR Rookie of the Year award over drivers racing for well-funded teams. After Kulwicki won his first race at Phoenix International Raceway, he debuted what would become his trademark " Polish Victory Lap". Kulwicki won the 1992 Winston Cup championship by what was then the closest margin in NASCAR history. He died early in 1993 in a light aircraft accident, and was unable to defend his championship. He has been inducted into numerous racing halls of fame and was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers. Kulwicki was known for being a perfectionist and doing things his own way. An engineer by trade, his scientific approach to NASCAR racing inspires the way teams are now run. Despite lucrative offers from top car owners, he insisted on driving for his own race team, AK Racing, during most of his NASCAR career. Described by his publicist as "a real hard type of person to get to know", he remained a bachelor throughout his life. Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary here at Wikipedia. It's been a good year, and wishing many more for you! Royal broil 01:03, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I critically read the article's content and I hope that you did too. Do you have any automated tools to check the article? I can run it through a spell checker. Do you have a tool to test each reference to make sure that it is still valid (not a 404 page)? Otherwise each needs to be manually checked by someone. I'm hoping to nominate it for Featured Article early next week. Royal broil 05:58, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
(deindent) As for the camera, are you looking to get a point-and-shoot or a DSLR? There's a huge difference in price and capabilities. If you want to use the camera to take any action shots, then make sure it has a sports mode. My point and shoot had it and I used it all the time at the racetracks. You'll also want to be able to take photos without the flash on. I rarely use it except for portraits. If you use the flash beyond its range, then the camera predicts the wrong shutter speed to use and it misses. My DSLR allows me to change lens to telephoto. The telephoto opened up a whole new world of photography. However, the skill of the photograph can be more important the the camera. I took a photo with my point and shoot that I sold to a magazine and it is in their current issue! Royal broil 22:12, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

It depends on the way you want to look at it. With the NASCAR newsletter starting mid-season, it may be best to go through a year of them to just fit in. Alternatively, you could follow our lead and start the second volume in January, but just having the short 2010 stint at the beginning. This decision is entirely up to you, as it is all about preference. But the Issue/Volume thing was not my idea for the Newsletter, as it had been there since the very first newsletter. Auto Club Speedway, a recent good article
Auto Club Speedway (formerly California Speedway) is a two-mile (3 km), low-banked, D-shaped oval superspeedway in Fontana, California which has hosted NASCAR racing annually since 1997. The track was also used for open wheel racing events until 2005. The racetrack is located near the former locations of Ontario Motor Speedway and Riverside International Raceway. The track is currently owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation and is the only track owned by ISC to have naming rights sold. The speedway is served by the nearby Interstate 10 and Interstate 15 freeways as well as a Metrolink station located behind the backstretch.Construction of the track, on the site of the former Kaiser Steel Mill, began in 1995 and was completed in late 1996. The speedway has a grandstand capacity of 91,200 and 28 skyboxes. In 2006, a fanzone was added behind the main grandstand. Lights were added to the speedway in 2004 with the addition of a second annual NASCAR weekend. In 2011 the track will host only one NASCAR weekend. I see that you made major changes to Template:Infobox NASCAR driver. Is Corona the Mexican series? What about Canadian Tire Series? But the main reason that I asked is because you changed the example to Richard Petty. Can you change the example back to Mark Martin because it was very helpful to copy a driver who raced in all 3 of the major series. Please list the Corona series but keep them blank so it's a full template to copy. What happened to the Achievements section? Thanks! Royal broil 04:46, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

2010 Sylvania 300, a recent
Good Article
The 2010 Sylvania 300 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held on September 19, 2010, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire. The 300 lap race was the twenty-seventh in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as well as the first race in the ten-race Chase for the Sprint Cup, which ends the season. Clint Bowyer, of the Richard Childress Racing team, won the race, with Denny Hamlin finishing second, and Jamie McMurray third. Pole position driver Brad Keselowski maintained his lead in the first lap, but in the second lap Tony Stewart pulled ahead. Chase for the Sprint Cup participants Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, and Hamlin were in the top ten for most of the race, but in the closing laps all of them suffered spins or other problems. Hamlin was the only one to recover and finish in the top five. With two laps remaining, Tony Stewart was leading the race when he ran out of fuel, giving the lead to Bowyer, who also led the most laps in the race with 176. There were eight cautions and twenty-three lead changes among eight different drivers during the race. The race was Clint Bowyer's first win in the 2010 season, and the third of his career. The result advanced Bowyer to second in the Drivers' Championship, thirty-five points behind Hamlin and ten ahead of Kevin Harvick, but because of a penalty three days after the race, he fell to twelfth in the standings. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, thirty-two points ahead of Toyota and seventy-four ahead of Ford, with nine races remaining in the season. A total of 95,000 people attended the race, while 3.68 million watched it on television. It is fine that you removed things that weren't referenced, but you also removed many corrections I made to grammar errors that were not part of quotations and even then brackets should be used. The items I changed are known and are present on several gaming websites. Also I improved the clarity in several areas, where it was otherwise poorly worded by whoever originally wrote it. One example is where it mentions "all 23 tracks", it would be more clear if one said all 23 tracks on the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule or something like that.
When creating the qualifying tables, use a |rowspan="8"| instead of just a | for the bar between the drivers who made it in the field and those who did not.
At the bottom of the results table use |-class="sortbottom" to prevent the sources line from sorting when the sort buttons are clicked. -- Wean0r ( talk) 22:30, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Nascar1996,
I'm a regular Signpost reader (and I especially enjoy the WikiProject Report), and I noticed your comment about wanting to clear the unassessed articles backlog at WP:NASCAR.

Yep, looking real good so far. I will complete the race results today, so you won't have to worry about that getting done! Cs-wolves (talk) 12:47, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
isn't good to show that more drivers call him Superman? such as what Kyle Busch said at Charlotte? it is true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.117.125.1 ( talk) 22:05, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Afraid not; I would not have any idea on how that works nor have I read a tutorial on how to do so. Apologies! Cs-wolves (talk) 18:18, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
How is this assess? WAYNE OLAJUWON 01:03, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
I hope he wins, or Hamlin and Harvick wrecks, he can clinch the championship by leading the most laps, winning the race, and Denny Hamlin finsh 3rd or worse. It doesn't because I'm taking a break. Normally when I keep on doing it I don't want to do the rest, and it might let me focas on 2010 Ford 400 more so I can get it to FA class. Nascar 1996 02:04, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Okay, but shouldn't the qualify template of the 2010 Ford 400 be completely filled in? WAYNE OLAJUWON 23:35, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
You actually mean 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Yeah, I created that article. It's going good so far. How do you install Reflinks and AWB? WAYNE OLAJUWON 16:08, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Most likely, I'll review it sometime today, maybe tomorrow if I fall behind on other things I'm working on. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 18:35, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
You should feel happy that Jimmie Johnson has now won 5 consecutive championships. Do you think he will win a 6th consecutive championship next year? WAYNE OLAJUWON 01:22, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
It's pretty weird that it didn't happen to me. You were pretty lucky. WAYNE OLAJUWON 02:34, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Are there any NASCAR articles that need to be patrolled? WAYNE SLAM 02:31, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Glad my comments were helpful - copyeditors can sometimes be found at WP:GOCE or in the bottom-most section of WP:PR/V. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 22:18, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
One thing I noticed is that they do factor prose in heavily; it has to be great rather than good or okay. As such, before trying there, I would have you send the article to Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests, where they should be able to fine-tune any issues. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 04:43, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
I logged on to Commons to find that my video of ice racing is the Commons Media of the Day for today (Tuesday). How exciting is that! I didn't know it was even nominated. I'm surprised that they used the video with the dirt spots on the camera's sensor. Royal broil 03:46, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
(deindent) I'm glad to see it passed, congratulations to you and WikiProject NASCAR. The featured headline for the newsletter! I suggest that you immediately request for it to be featured on the main page on the day of the 2011 Daytona 500 in February. My Wiki-acquaintance Howcheng does the scheduling. I bet he'd appreciate if you offer to help write the blurb. Since this passed, I now wonder if some of my newer photos with my semi-pro-level camera are featured level. I'm feeling better about them... Royal broil 03:44, 16 December 2010 (UTC) P.S. check out Wikipedia:Triple Crown, you have one coming!
On 14 December 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Jason Ratcliff, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Jason Ratcliff was the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series champion crew chief? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page ( here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
