Hi, I saw that you tagged Obi (martial arts) in-use for copyedit. I was also working on copyediting the article (my first pass is ready) and wondered how far you'd progressed, if you'd like to collaborate on it or something? To deal with the repetition in the article, I feel that it might benefit from a lot of layout work, and possibly combining the multiple tables. – Reidgreg ( talk) 18:14, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Hi Geardona! Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your edits and participation in the GOCE editing drive this month! I just want to point out something about your recent edit to Aviation safety#Transport comparisons.
I think this section was originally tagged for copy editing due to awkward phrasing. However, a few of your deletions changed the meaning / reading of the sentences, and one citation ended up in the wrong place. These small errors are really hard (or impossible) for later editors to notice and fix! Our goal is to improve clarity while maintaining (or improving!) accuracy :)

Hello there! Something I like to do is review the queue of requested edits, and I saw that you resolved a request submitted at Talk:Microwave. I'd like to bestow upon you a kitten for helping others!
If you ever run into another edit request and wish to fulfill it, one thing to help out editors that like to review requested edits is to add the parameter answered=yes
to the edit request template. I've gone ahead and done this for you. This parameter applies to all of the protection-specific templates (e.g {{
Edit semi-protected}}, {{
Edit extended-protected}}, etc), and it serves to remove the request from the queue. A fantastic script that streamlines this process with a slick
graphical interface is the

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 00:23, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

as to the difference between a level 4 warning and a level 4im warning; the former is a final warning, but the latter is an only warning, and so shouldn't be given after a final warning. Rather, a 4im warning is for egregious vandalism (an example I can think of is strongly racist language and terminology); if someone continues to vandalise after that, you can report them straight to AIV. Hello, Geardona,
I've noticed in several AFDs I reviewed, you commented "Soft Keep". I don't know what you mean by this term. This is not a term that is used in deletion discussions and you won't find it on any policy or guidelines page, believe me because I've searched and looked. There is "Soft Delete" in which an article is treated as a Proposed deletion and it is possible for an editor to request restoration at WP:REFUND. But there is no such thing as "Soft Keep". The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.
Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima ( submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:
As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. Hi Geardona, funny how our paths shall cross so soon after you passed my GAN (and thanks for completing it so quickly!). I was approached by AmanjLife23, who is one of my assigned mentees, about your revert of their edits on the University of Winnipeg article.
I've looked at their changes and your edit summary, and I presume the misunderstanding was that they didn't seem to provide sources to support their change? However, if you check the currently cited source itself, their edits are actually supported by the source. The page probably had changed/been updated by the university itself since the information was first added (for example, if you see this WebArchive capture of the page, the statistics are different from what they are now).
If there's no objection from you, I'll restore their edits, along with a bit of cleanup (adding archive links, punctuation, etc.). I'll also have a word with them about marking edits as minor, which they shouldn't have done in this case. Thanks! Liu1126 ( talk) 12:39, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Afshar (Azerbaijani: Əfşar افشار; Turkish: Avşar, Afşar; Turkmen: Owşar اوْوشار; Persian: افشار, romanized: Afshār) is a tribe of Oghuz Turkic origin, that split into several groups in Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Afghanistan. During the Seljuk conquests of the 11th century, they moved from Central Asia into the Middle East. They are noted in history for being one of the Qizilbash tribes that helped establish the Safavid dynasty of Iran, and for being the source of descent of Iran's Afsharid dynasty. Nader Shah, who became the monarch of Iran in 1736, was from the Qereklu clan (Persian: قرخلو) of Afshars. Afshars mainly inhabit Iran, where they remain a largely nomadic group.
The terms "Persian" and "Iranian" are frequently used on the Battle of Karnal page. This is not true. AzerbaijaniQizilbash ( talk) 16:23, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
Hi! Thank you again for reviewing Draft:Taiwan and the United Nations. I already replied to you on my talk page, but just in case you don't see that, I wanted to let you and the copyright investigator(s) know that the "copyrighted" work in question was almost all taken from China and the United Nations verbatim. I believe the blog site had taken its content from that original article. The intention here, of course, was to move the relevant content from that article to this new article, as to organize the topics in a clearer way, consistent with other related articles. Let me know if it makes sense to restore that section, or if a major paraphrasing is still required. I welcome your thoughts on how best to proceed here to get the draft published. The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.
The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:
In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV ( submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.
Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. Hey Geardona, I see above that you are a new trial member of the NPP team, welcome aboard! That queue is under constant backlog, more members are always needed.
I just wanted to make sure you are following the protocol correctly. You tagged the redirect Safe Space Radio with a CSD criteria—but might have noticed on closer inspection that the target page mentioned Safe Space Radio in the lead, and that there is a whole section Anne Hallward § Safe Space Radio in the article. That wasn't an issue, I disputed it and another editor came by and removed the tag.
I do want to point out though that when you speedied it, you also marked it as patrolled when instead, while patrolling and marking something for speedy deletion, pages should not be marked as patrolled. The only deletion process that does mark something as patrolled is nominating something at any XfD, like WP:AfD. You can follow the flow chart on the WP:NPP tutorial page for more info.
Again, happy to have a new member of the NPP team and looking forward to seeing more of your contributions on the project. If you have any questions, never hesitate to ask.

Hi @Geardona, I saw you deleted Pooper as a redirect to Wooper under the assumption it was vandalism. This was not actually vandalism, as if you read the article, it discusses in its Reception how Paldean Wooper gained the affectionate nickname of "Pooper" from fans. Given this Redirect actually has navigational merit because of this, and it does not interfere with other redirects, I'll likely recreate the redirect later unless you have any objections. I do just want to clear up this confusion for now, however, since I do understand how it appears to be vandalism from a glance. Hope this clears things up. Has one ever considered Magneton? Ah right. I have done counter-vandalism too. It gets old after a while, but it is important--it's partly how I flagged your edit on Kentucky.
If JWB does one page at a time and makes you review the page before it saves it and you looks at the diffs before saving, then that eases my concerns. I wonder how you missed the problem after it was saved. Maybe you need to hit view history to see if anything catastrophic happened and then self-revert if it did.
I was afraid this was going to run as a batch job and hundreds of pages could be changed all at once and it be a huge clean up mess.
Like I said before, I am quite familiar with regular expressions. I even took a class in Automata theory and possibly in compiler design that parses complex strings, where I used the lexical analyzer ([Lex (software)]) that works on regular expressions. But I am not familiar with JWB or how JWB saves the data in that JSON file. I don't know the relationship between your search terms and the replace terms. I have asked you to explain a few times. It can't be that hard to figure out, right?
With sed, perl or Word for Windows, there is usually one search string (regular expression) and one replace string (e.g. Sed#Substitution_command, [3], [4]) Your humongous JWB has multiple search-replaces in multiple places and I am simply tired of trying to jump around that file and guess which search string goes with which replace string. It's probably why no one else has offered to help.
The replace method often depends far more on the software--I'm pretty sure Word does it quite differently than sed--so without further guidance on how that works from you (or someone else), I'm losing interest in trying to figure it out. Maybe it is somewhere in the JWB documentation. If so, please just point to it. Hopefully when you get to the computer you can give a list of the intended search and replace strings -and- the place that explains how the replacement part . -- David Tornheim ( talk) 05:45, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello Geardona,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

@ Geardona thank you for beginning to edit the my new submission. I tried to be as meticulous as possible with my references, writings and citations. Hi @ Geardona thank a lot for your support and help with the SBS page /info/en/?search=Draft:Semantic_Brand_Score.
I have edited the draft following your suggestions (making the content different from the previously deleted page and adding verifyeable and reputable secondary sources). I think the previous page was deleted mostly because, at the time, there were no real secondary sources. I have found many now (which also describe the metric in details) and added them to the article. I have also made the page differente from the previous. But I am new here :). Can you help me and tell me if it looks good to you and I can now resubmit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WarmKomorebi ( talk • contribs) 10:36, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
Hey Geardona, I'm curious if you noticed that when you declined Draft:Template:84Buddhist at Special:PermanentLink/1217084704 as a blank draft, you noticed that it wasn't actual a blank draft. It was a valid draft WP:Template destined for the Template namespace.
Drafts that are draft templates are acceptable to be drafted in the draft namespace, per Wikipedia:Drafts at note 1: ... new pages for non-article namespaces such as the Portal:, Template: and Wikipedia: namespaces are first incubated in the draftspace. What was your reasoning for declining the submission? microbiologyMarcus petri dish· growths 15:47, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
Please note that state supreme court justices (like this one) are inherently notable. It would conceivably be appropriate to reject a draft where there is no evidence that the subject actually held that position, but barring that circumstance, they go straight through. Hi Geardona, just a heads up, edits like this one are adding pages to Category:CS1 errors: empty unknown parameters. Not the end of the world since Citation Bot will fix them when it is run on that category, but probably something you should fix if you're going to run that script on a lot of pages. We are approaching the end of the 2024 WikiCup's second round, with a little over two weeks remaining. Currently, contestants must score at least 105 points to progress to the third round.
Our current top scorers are as follows:
Competitors may submit work for the second round until the end of 28 April, and the third round starts 1 May. Remember that only competitors with the top 32 scores will make it through to the third round. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs. As a reminder, competitors are strictly prohibited from gaming Wikipedia policies or processes to receive more points.

The second round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 28 April. This round was particularly competitive: each of the 32 contestants who advanced to Round 3 scored at least 141 points. This is the highest number of points required to advance to Round 3 since 2014.
The following scorers in Round 2 all scored more than 500 points:
The full scores for Round 2 can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 18 featured articles, 22 featured lists, and 186 good articles, 76 in the news credits and at least 200 did you know credits. They have conducted 165 featured article reviews, as well as 399 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 21 articles to featured topics and good topics.
Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed during Round 3, which starts on 1 May at 00:00 (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

If you ever run into another edit request and wish to fulfill it, one thing to help out editors that like to review requested edits is to add the parameter answered=yes
to the edit request template. I've gone ahead and done this for you. This parameter applies to all of the protection-specific templates (e.g {{
Edit semi-protected}}, {{

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

This award is given in recognition to Geardona for collecting more than 5 points during the WikiProject Unreferenced articles's FEB24 backlog drive. Your contributions played a crucial role in sourcing 14,300 unsourced articles during the drive. Thank you so much for participating and helping to reduce the backlog! – – DreamRimmer ( talk) 17:58, 8 March 2024 (UTC) |

Cheers, microbiologyMarcus petri dish· growths 14:34, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
Please note that per WP:GAN/I#R3, all GA reviews must contain a source spot-check; simply copy-pasting the article title into Earwig, which has significant flaws, is not sufficient. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 ( talk) 05:56, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for adding a tracking category to my redirect
here. I do understand what's the purpose of it, but on my main wiki things are bit different... I made several more protein names/synonyms redirects, can I simply add this code to all of them?
{{Redirect category shell|
{{R from alternative scientific name}}
}}
The "alternative scientific name" speaks for itself, but am I free to do this "category shell" thing, whatever it does?
Also, how come Category:Printworthy redirects
was added?
Thanks for the help, trivial stuff for experienced editor probly, but I would really appreciate it for my future endavours! InternetowyGołąb ( talk) 22:46, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

Did you really mean to remove 100k of text from Kentucky? I tried to restore it, but I can't because of certain sources appear to be censored. -- David Tornheim ( talk) 05:26, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi. Wadi el-Hasa and Wadi al-Hasa are just 2 possible and common English transliterations, the Arabic definite article can be spelled in both ways. You have added a "misspelling" tag; I don't deal with those matters, if it's just a technical formality which helps with some obscure algoritm - whatever, fine with me. But misspelled it's not :) So you decide what to do now. Thanks, Arminden ( talk) 21:07, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
