Would you please have a look at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions#Copyright in the People's Republic of China if you have a moment? For your convenience, I will summarize the issue below:
My question at MCQ was whether the images of Nie Fengzhi here are in the public domain. NativeForeigner pointed me to commons:Template:PD-China, which indicates: "According to copyright laws of the People's Republic of China ... all photographs enter the public domain 50 years after they were first published, or if unpublished 50 years from creation".
The problem arises from the fact that only one of the images (the group photo, which I've already uploaded to Commons) identifies its date of creation. In particular, the date of creation of the headshot (top photo) is ambiguous. One can guess that the image was created and published in 1955 (the year in which Nie attained the rank of lieutenant general), but it would be a guess only. Is that enough, in your opinion, to treat the image as PD, or should I treat the image as copyrighted until 2042 (50 years after Nie's death, since the image was obviously created while he was alive)?
I would appreciate any advice you could offer. -- Black Falcon ( talk) 20:22, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

I see that you are putting your signature outside of the resolved tag. Although you place it next to the tag in the wikitext it actually appears peculiarly below it. I think the reason you do this is because you find that the tag doesn't render when you put your sig inside it. The way to fix this is as followed:
{{resolved|1=Closing statement ~~~~}}
Note the "1=" which allows markup in your signature (specifically the equals signs) to play nice with the template. Hope this helps. – xeno talk 15:18, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
It looks like the Library of Congress has done a complete revamp of their site. You're probably already aware. Anyway, all of the "source" links are now broken for LOC images. Do you think it would be possible to fix the links automatically somehow (i.e. with a bot)? Jujutacular T · C 20:54, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
I would like to solicit the opinion of someone more knoweledgeable about Wikipedia policy than I. The John Pershing article has, for over a year contained, in the infobox, his nicknames of "Nigger Jack", and "Black Jack". As you know, an editor has removed the offensive term. I agree that it is a horridly offensive name, but feel that it should remain, in the interest of accuracy. The editor that removed the name has stated that it would violate WP:CON to return it before the dispute is resolved. It is my position that, because the name stood for over a year without incident, the oppisite is true; it must remain until such time as consensus says that it should be removed. I realize that I am rather new at this, and I do not wish to cause trouble, or violate policy. Am I within my rights to return the name to the infobox whilst the dispute is being resolved? Mk5384 ( talk) 04:01, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Hi Durova - I notice that your FAQ says that if somebody wants you to do image restoration, they should supply an uncompressed TIFF or PNG. Is this just your preference, or is it impossible to do useful work on JPGs? My articles use a lot of images that could do with some restoration, so I'd be interested in learning, but most of them are relatively low resolution JPGs ( example). Thanks, Steve Smith ( talk) 13:38, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Have you seen the new Photoshop (jump to 2:50 in the video as the post suggests to see something cool)? The new features might be useful for image restoration. Gary King ( talk) 18:21, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:
It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.
At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).
Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.
If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:14, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Hi Durova. I stumbled across this photo while rewriting the associated article, and wondered if it was a good candidate for WP:FP. There are some small imperfections (dust, what looks like a wrinkle in the top right corner, etc.), so it could use some TLC. I am going over your edits and activities, and noticed you have blanked User talk:Arkhamite. Is this kosher? Is this standard practice per WP:BLANK or some other community policy? To blank other people's user pages? What is the current state of affairs on this? Int21h ( talk) 02:36, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
To Nihonjoe: The OP was asking whether Arkhamite was a well-known banned editor. The Arkhamite userpage links to the ban discussion where no mention of that other editor occurred. It also provides context for why the userspace got blanked--very understandable under the circumstances. So it seems unlikely that Int21h is connected to either account. The odd thing is why anyone would dig back so far in the past to a unanimous and uncontroversial community decision, and then halt at that point to raise a fuss without taking another two minutes to see why it was handled that way.
To Int21h: whatever recent controversy you were in that you think this relates to, it is remarkable that you found that obscure user page without noticing that WP:BLANK had nothing to say about blanking user pages back in early 2007. My edit history has nearly 60,000 actions. The only easily searchable index is at the administrative noticeboard where the ban was discussed, and if you had searched there you would have quickly seen why it was handled that way. I have little idea how standards have changed six years later, although it would not be difficult to imagine that if something that extreme occurred again the end result would have been about the same. Hi Durova, Really impressed by your restoration work! Absolutely brilliant! I'm working with some museums in Yorkshire, UK and have recently uploaded a high resolution version of William Smith's pioneering geological map. This image is very true to the map as it is but you can see that the colours have faded and there has been some damage. Currently, the brighter, low-resolution version is in more useful as a thumbnail illustration in articles but it would be incredible to see the large version restored! You can see how bright the original was from a recently discovered, unfaded copy uploaded to Flickr here: Rediscovered Smith Map from the Geological Society. Unfortunately, the Geological Society aren't being very forward thinking about their Public Domain holdings! What are your thoughts? Thanks PatHadley ( talk) 11:52, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

{{resolved|1=Closing statement ~~~~}}

I have long been attached to this image of the battlecruiser Frunze, but the image at high res is dreadful. Is there any way that the image could be digitally cleaned up enough to have a shot at obtaining FP status? I'd be happy to list this as a co0nom at FPC if you think its got a chance. If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.
If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG ( talk) 10:29, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Hi Durova! It's been a long time since I left you a note. I was wondering if you knew about the newly formed Editor Retention project? We're looking at ways to help retain users both new users and experienced ones. I'm especially interested in finding ways to help restore users who have significant experience with wp back to the project (see this thread here). If you had any reflections on what keeps you here and/or what contributes to you spending less timer here etc they'd be most welcome.
I don't know anything about image restoration, or have any specialized imagery software, so I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help you can provide.
