Hi Dan, per my conversation with User:Robinlewisadams 1, User:Mia Kokkoni is also them. While this is an WP:AGF situation, I told them they should not have two accounts, suggested they stop editing from the Mia account and only use Robinlewisadams 1 going forward then had further exchanges about a draft (well two actually, Draft:Robin Adams (Scottish musician) and Draft:Robin Adams (musician)). However, they used the Mia account a few minutes later. Again, I don't think this is intentional deception or anything but it causing confusion so requesting the Mia account be blocked. Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hiya. I saw you in the rights log, granting extendedconfirmed
to a few former administrators (
Pathoschild et al). This is just to note that it generally isn't necessary to do so – MediaWiki will grant it on their next edit if they haven't held it before. Given that it was rolled out in 2016 and quite a lot of the administrators being desysopped had their RfAs before then, they don't need to have their rights manually changed to add it. See
Special:UserRights/Atama for an example of the automatic grant; for examples where manual grants are needed, see
Special:UserRights/Athaenara and
Special:UserRights/Eddie891 (the former because they were automatically granted it in 2019 after a resignation, and the latter because they held it prior to RfA). Hope this helps

Hi Dan. The information cited in the article Lisa Matomola was taken from a trusted website and various local newspapers, and this were properly referenced. And this article was still in the draft form. Can you post it back so we can finish with the editing work. We created the article with article Wizard platform for beginners. Also, the claim that there is information from Twitter, haven't used information from Twitter, if there is match, is just that that information came from the sources I used. Kindly advise further. Martin Hipangwa ( talk) 15:08, 4 December 2022 (UTC)
Per your words: “I've never really worked on Wikipedia articles about my field of expertise, though. Instead, I like to branch out and work on articles about unfamiliar and interesting people, places, and things – the ones where you can learn a lot as you look for sources or read related articles.” Thus according to your logic and its impact on the legitimacy of Wikipedia’s editing, I would urge you to quit editing/removing content that you are not familiar with. I urge you to do so because you are removing content from users who are personally familiar/have extensive education about the topics they are editing. I am referring about Nizar Qabbani’s section. I am aware there were copyrights issues which must be fixed. However, further removal of well-referenced information is a covert biased and discriminatory gesture that I will reported and according to Wikipedia’s rules, will disqualify you from future editing privileges. Dear Dan,
the article I reverted due to vandalism had the following issues, the time period is irrelevant as it was mostly done by one controversial user with about 9 edits.
You mentioned "false claims" of vandalism, please explain how the following is not vandalism:
- Actively removed the association between Kurdish history and the Baban family, even with the latter being an important historical entity of the former.
- Actively removed the map of the Kurdish principalities crafted by Kurdoloigst Dr. Michael Izady, and well sourced, the claim of removal was based on that it was "made by a kurdologist" who has been critiqued by an iranologist, this was made my an Iranian user.
- Actively removed notable descendants, most of which well sourced, I removed some of them as they weren't sourced, a prime minister of iraq is a notable descendant to be mentioned.
Could you explain how is that not vandalism? how is removing a 2 century lasting principality from the Wikipedia collection of Kurdish articles not vandalism? I will revert the changes if you do not explain, as these pages should not be edited due to political reasons.
Best wishes. 109.175.196.210 ( talk) 09:33, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I was investigating a possible copyvio in this article, which I saw you noted as being copied from List of leaders of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. Earwig returned a medium-high confidence result for copying from [2] and [3], though the "infringing text" appears to have been present since at least 2019 in the other article. I can't clearly tell whether these sites copied and pasted from Wikipedia (one dates to 2020, which suggests this is a possibility) and stuck a copyright notice on it, but since you made an attribution note in the article history, could you take another look? Complex/ Rational 16:33, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
datePublished":"2020-08-18T08:23:52+00:00
(so the "14 August 2020" date listed on the web page seems to be correct), and
Civils Daily has <time class="entry-date published updated" datetime="2021-08-17T11:36:31+05:30">August 17, 2021</time>
, so it looks like it originated in 2021. Based on this, I would say it's likely that both websites copied from Wikipedia. (By the way,
List of leaders of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly isn't the only other article where that text appears, but I tried to pick the one where it appeared the earliest.)

Dear Dan, I just tried to update my grandfather's page, Liu Ta Chung, according to my father's wishes, drawing from the words of his best friend and colleague, economist Sho-Chieh Tsiang, who has also passed away. We are still in close touch with Dr. Tsiang's descendants, but we don't have a lot of time to modify wikipedia. We just wanted to provide more information about Liu Ta Chung as the entry is very basic. What do you need us to do to have the additions to his entry updated? If it's a lot of trouble, we may pass but it's a shame as there is a lot of historical and personal details that we could add about his life that would give a more accurate and compelling picture. You deleted a revision I made to TeX because of alleged copyright violations. Furthermore, you hid the deletion from public access somehow. The only evidence you left behind seems to be a URL: https://www.ling.upenn.edu/~beatrice/syntax-textbook/box-thematic.html . This page seems to have nothing to do with the article TeX in any way. I'm puzzled and would appreciate a bit of explanation as to what is going on. All I did was add "MathJax" to the article, and I can't see how this involves the copyright laws. Today, a hymn for a Marian feast, I learned that Yvonne Ciannella died, the soprano who impressed me in my first night at the opera, and as she died in March, sadly no Main page reverence is possible, - at least she had a good DYK, at a time when opera singers were considered interesting. I'm proud today that Christiane Hörbiger made it to that corner, and happy that we celebrate the birthday of Jean Sibelius again. Please check out Volodymyr Kozhukhar whom I nominated for it. - I heard an excellent Christmas concert yesterday, by Tenebrae, and a short excerpt of them singing " Deo gracias" is also linked from my talk. -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 21:00, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly
explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your
common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Dear DanCherek, Slava Ukrainii!!; we haven't met. I am here because of Diannaa's assiduous copyright patrolling; she pinged me on my talkpage regarding this article (see User_talk:Buckshot06#February 2023).
I explained to her that the source she removed had been duplicated; I got it out of a book by Michael R. Gordon published last year, not the duplicate web version. So because she's having a health slowdown I am here at your talkpage to reduce the load on her.
Now, I have been going over Gordon's reprinted extract from "Degrade and Destroy" and wondered whether there was a simple solution: could I block-quote five sentences of the article / book page in question, with full attribution in a footnote, making quite clear that it is a quote? I've done that not infrequently writing up numerous military topics. Does that pass our copyright rules (or do I need to go through every use of <blockquote> and re-sift and potentially remove?)?
Kind regards

[p]roposal for better addressing undisclosed paid editing. Feedback is being accepted until 24 April 2023.
So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included
LunaEatsTuna,
Thebiguglyalien,
Sammi Brie,
Trainsandotherthings,
Lee Vilenski,
Juxlos,
Unexpectedlydian,
SounderBruce,

BennyOnTheLoose and
PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

...for your continuing attention in support of WP:VERIFY, including at the Lars von Trier article. I would note, there, that an earlier non-logging editor, the individual at IP address 136.158.78.115, has made extensive edits, both adding information without source, and removing sourced information. I have marked some of the former of these with citation needed tags, but the overall edits from that location should be reviewed. (You left them a message at their talk page, about such, earlier.) As another non-logging editor, I do not do bold redactive edits, even when another is egregiously in violation of WP policies. (Because long experience has shown that Twinkle and its users do not exercise discretion when seeing such deletions by a non-logging editor, even when proper.) Cheers, all the best. The goal: to improve vital or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. Editing can be done individually, but in the past groups have also successfully competed. There is £300 of prize money divided among editors who provide the "best additive encyclopedic value". Signups are open now. Professor Peter Bunyard is a major expert on the biotic pump and the planetary atmospheric hydrology in general with game-changing insights on how we can fight climate destabilization and even how to stop the planet from heating up through the interaction of vegetation and in particular tropical rain forests, water and the atmosphere. He states, as an adept and close associate of James Lovelock that the Earth's atmosphere is the result of the interaction of life with the planet's properties and not the adaptation to a pre-existing atmosphere. He has proven the existence of the biotic pump phenomenon and the physical theoretical proof but his amazing insights have been ignored till now, which, once adopted would become major tools in stabilizing the climate within decades! News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2023).
Hi, I would like to clarify things with regard to the revisions I made to the Net 25 article. The lifting of copy-pasted material from the archived version of its old archived website which had to be removed from the public logs of article revisions that were cited as copyright violations were completely unintentional. The content was already included in a previous version of the article which was removed for supposedly lacking a cited source, I merely re-added the same by citing the source. I do acknowledge that these were directly lifted from that archived webpage, but had I known that it was violating a rule, I should have been given the chance to clean it up myself. Thanks and have a good day. Vgyu 13:58, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

I can't clearly tell whether these sites copied and pasted from Wikipedia (one dates to 2020, which suggests this is a possibility) and stuck a copyright notice on it, but since you made an attribution note in the article history, could you take another look? datePublished":"2020-08-18T08:23:52+00:00

Merry Christmas |
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2023 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Sturmvogel 66 ( talk · contribs · email) and Cwmhiraeth ( talk · contribs · email). Good luck! MediaWiki message delivery ( talk) 14:16, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

Hello DanCherek,
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Hello Dear Mr DanCherek, I am from Hong Kong, China, and I am new to Wikipedia. My attention is drawn to the case of Kris Wu sex scandal, where I found a lot of partial and misinformation, which invariably leads readers to a biased judgement. I would like to add more follow up information to this page as the case is controversial but the Chinese government do not encourage, if not forbid, public discussion on this case. Would you please tell me how to add more information to this page ? I won't change the original text but would like to furnish it with additional information so that readers will have a more comprehensive and objective view.

So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included
LunaEatsTuna,
Thebiguglyalien,
Sammi Brie,
Trainsandotherthings,
Lee Vilenski,
Juxlos,
Unexpectedlydian,
SounderBruce,
Kosack,
BennyOnTheLoose and
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! ...for your continuing attention in support of WP:VERIFY, including at the Lars von Trier article. The Core Contest—Wikipedia's most exciting contest—will take place this year from April 15 to May 31. The goal: to improve vital or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. Editing can be done individually, but in the past groups have also successfully competed. There is £300 of prize money divided among editors who provide the "best additive encyclopedic value". Signups are open now. Cheers from the judges, Femke, Casliber, Aza24. — Preceding undated comment added 17:53, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
