Hi Casliber, I noticed that your name came up on the list of volunteers for peer review of biological topics. I was wondering if you would be willing to review the Gynecomastia article. I can see that you're a very accomplished and experienced editor and I think the article would benefit from a set of new (but veteran) eyes. I'm working on getting it to GA (and eventually FA down the road). Please let me know. Thanks! TylerDurden8823 ( talk) 04:45, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Back in January you closed
this RfC started by Sue Rangell on whether or not Robert Spitzer should be labeled a gun control advocate in
Robert Spitzer (political scientist). In your close you said Quoting our own BLP policy "BLPs should be written responsibly, cautiously, and in a dispassionate tone, avoiding both understatement and overstatement." Furthermore, the subject is notable for other non-gun-related material. Thus the word "activist" or (to a lesser extent) advocate is potentially polarising and misrepresentative.
I thought the problem was over.
Sue Rangell has added "advocate" back and Spitzer has removed it. I am disturbed to see a conflict about a gun control article affect a person out in the real world. The area of gun control is under discretionary scanctions and I am unclear as to what to do next. What do you suggest? StarryGrandma ( talk) 06:54, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Hi Casliber, did you ever decide if you want to compare the gynecomastia article information to UptoDate or DynaMed? Or should I ask someone else? I would prefer an experienced editor like you to do it, but if you don't have time, just let me know. I'm just working on getting it ready for GA review. Thanks! Hey, Casliber, how's it going! I was wondering if you could help me with Sleeping Dogs (video game) since I really need help with it. Ever since I joined Wiki I have been trying to tackle the article alone but I can't seem to do it by myself wit the amount of experience I have. Is there any way you could help me take it to GA? I know you usually only edit plant related articles, but this one is rated B class so it should be an easy thing for both of us. What do you think? Thanks for everything in advance, URDNEXT ( talk) 13:08, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Hi Cas Liber. Just to let you know that I moved the developing sub-thread in
Talk:Kelpie#River vs. Lake which was a section I started to the
Kelpie vs Each-Uisge section you started, since the topic clearly fits the latter. I plan to be adding to the sub-thread too, but I haven't quite composed it. But I can preview to you a couple of pointers I intend to bring up.
One is that since you do favor stating the contrast betwen the kelpie and the each uisge, I should expect you to be more disapproving of the stubborn kelpie==each uisge policy.
The other is FYI about Briggs. She only says "Highland Kelpie was as bloodthirsty and as hungry" so it is not as contrastive against each uisge as you would like, as you stated. But I think she is the one who is nudging the kelpie toward the bloodier spectrum. JG Campbell uses "devour" for the kelpie and not each uisge; in contrast, she infers that each uisge "devour"ed the children (while the others don't expressly say they were devoured, just that their livers came afloat).
In another of her books Briggs, Katharine Mary (1979),
Abbey Lubbers, Banshees, & Boggarts: A Who's Who of Fairies, Penguin, pp. 67–{{
citation}}
: CS1 maint: extra punctuation (
link) (snippet viewable), she gives the variant tale of the children-abducting each uisge localized in "Aberfeldy," even though in The Fairies in Tradition book, she localizes the same tale as being in "Glen Keltney, near Schiehallion". The inconsistent language in the locale leads to confusion, but in the light of this evidence, Mackillop probably sources from Briggs's 1979 book, and probably mimicking her opinion. --

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Southern boobook, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Melville Island. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The final of the 2014 WikiCup begins in a few short minutes! Our eight finalists are listed below, along with their placement in Round 4:
We say goodbye to this year's semi-finalists. Matty.007 ( submissions), ThaddeusB ( submissions), WikiRedactor ( submissions), Figureskatingfan ( submissions), Yellow Evan ( submissions), Prism ( submissions) and Cloudz679 ( submissions) have all performed well to reach this stage of the competition, and we hope they will all be joining us again next year.
There are two upcoming competitions unrelated to the WikiCup which may be of interest to those who receive this newsletter. The Stub Contest will run through September, and revolves around expanding stub articles, especially high-importance or old stubs. In addition, a proposal has been made for a new competition, the GA Cup, which the organisers plan to run next year. This competition is based on the WikiCup and aims to reduce the good article review backlog.
There is now a thread for brainstorming on how next year's WikiCup competition should work. Please come along and share your thoughts- What works? What doesn't work? What needs changing? Signups for next year's competition will be open soon; we will be in touch. If, at this stage of the competition, you are keen to help the with the WikiCup, please do what you can to participate in review processes. Our finalists will find things much easier if the backlogs at good article candidates, featured article candidates, featured picture candidates and the rest are kept at a minimum. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello Casliber,
I wanted to ask if there is a way to see how much 'readable prose' has added before adding it to the contest page? As my plan is more to destub rose cultivars (which I decided before I noticed the stub contest) than to participate in the contest, it would save you time if I could add only those where I actually did add enough text. The minimum level is quite high for topics small as topics like those cultivars - e.g.
Rosa 'Albéric Barbier' now includes the information of a palette of rose books, I don't think there's more I can add to that cultivar. (The list of references already looks a bit much for such a short article... ;->). Best wishes, --

Did you want to add any further comments to your review of the Rodent article at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Rodent/archive1? I too hate stubs. I have a team of people that I have trained to be WP editors. Their last task in training is to take a stub and try to transform it into a DYK. We have been most successful the last couple years. These are mostly brand new editors that take weeks to finish a page, so it is unlikely for them to be able to finish more than one page for a contest. I know you are trying to get a massive amount of stubs turned into quality work quickly, I just discovered this stub contest and wanted to get my team involved. But as one of my people pointed out, the winners have already been decided. No way we could turn out 100+ in the next 15 days or even months. Just wanted you to know that we are doing our best, training people to do it correctly and hopefully keep them around as editors for years to come. I was thinking that maybe in the future if you run this contest again, to put names in a hat for everyone that completes a rewrite and pull one for a prize. I know we would love some cool WP stuff if you can get WP to cough up some swag. Thanks for taking this on, it is sooo needed. Sgerbic ( talk) 03:24, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Mamoudzou is the capital of the French overseas region and department of Mayotte, in the Indian Ocean. Mamoudzou, known as Momoju in the local Shimaore language, is the most populated commune (municipality) of Mayotte. It is located on Grande-Terre (or Mahoré), the main island of Mayotte. The former capital of Mayotte was Dzaoudzi, on the small island of Petite-Terre (or Pamanzi), but Mamoudzou was chosen as the capital in 1977. The island is located in the Mozambique Channel, between northern Mozambique and northern Madagascar.
The commune is composed of 6 villages in addition to its central habitation, also called Mamoudzou. These are: Kawéni, Mtsapéré, Passamainti, Vahibé, Tsoundzou I and Tsoundzou II.
The commune is also subdivided into 3 cantons; Mamoudzou I, Mamoudzou II and Mamoudzou III.

Medical Translation Newsletter
Issue 2, Aug./Sept. 2014
by
CFCF
During August we have translated Disease and it is now live in more than 60 different languages! To help us focus on African languages Rubric has donated a large number of articles in languages we haven't previously reached–so a shout out them, and Ian Henderson from Rubric who's joined us here at Wikipedia. We're very happy for our continued collaboration with both Rubric and Translators without Borders!
At Wikimania there were so many enthusiastic people jumping at the chance to help out the Medical Translation Project, but unfortunately not all of them knew how to get started. That is why we've been spending considerable time writing and improving guides! They are finally live, and you can find them at our home-page!
We're proud to announce a new sign up page at WP:MTSIGNUP! The old page was getting cluttered and didn't allow you to speficy a role. The new page should be easier to sign up to, and easier to navigate so that we can reach you when you're needed!
Translations are of both full articles and shorter articles continues. The process where short articles are chosen for translation hasn't been fully transparent. In the coming months we hope to have a first guide, so that anyone who writes medical or health articles knows how to get their articles to a standard where they can be translated! That's why we're currently working on medical good lede criteria! The idea is to have a similar peer review process to good article nominations, but only for ledes.

As we move into the middle of Round 1, we wanted to report some of the lessons we've learned thus far, as well as announce a major rule change going into Round 2, which begins November 1. Remember, sign-ups for this year's Cup ends on September 15. Thus far, we're very happy with the results of the competition. One of our major goals, reducing the long backlog at GAN, is well on the way to being accomplished, mostly due to the enthusiastic efforts of Jonas Vinther, who has earned over 250 points. Over 80 reviews have been made thus far. Thank you all for your efforts and for your part in making the GA Cup a success. However, this is the inaugural year of the GA Cup, so there have been some unforeseen circumstances that have come up. One has been a glaring inadequacy with the rules, which the judges feel makes the competition unfair. As a result, there will be a major change in the rules, starting at the beginning of Round 2:
What this means is that you must provide some feedback to the article's nominator, and must wait for him or her to respond before passing the article. If the nominator has not responded in the standard 7 days, you can fail the article. We're instituting this rule change to prevent the possibility of competitors passing articles for the sake of passing articles (or failing them) and to gain more points. We believe that the change will make it more fair to all competitors in the GA Cup. Also, in case you haven't noticed, we increased the "guarantee" for Round 2 to 25 participants. The exact number will be decided in the near future. We thank your for your participation, and for your flexibility and understanding as we learn what works and what doesn't work in this competition. Hi Cas, would you mind signing the {{ DYKbotdo}} in Queue 1 if you get chance? I don't think it's a really big deal who approves he move to the queue as long as it's been properly reviewed by third parties, but one of the hooks is mine and I'm involved with another, so I'd be happier if another admin signed it (I moved it to the queue and left it blank because we had six empty queues and six full preps). Hi everyone,
It was brought to the attention of the judges that there was an error in the newsletter sent out earlier today.
Sign-ups for the GA Cup will close on October 15, 2014, not September 15, 2014 (as mentioned in the newsletter).
Sorry for any confusion.

Hello GA Cup competitors! The judges have learned a great deal in this first part of the competition, and we appreciate your patience with us as we've figured out what works and what doesn't work. As we reported in our last newsletter, an inadequacy in the scoring system has been illuminated in the past 15 days, which has resulted in a major change in the rules. It has also resulted in one withdrawal. To ensure fairness, we've decided to further increase the number of participants moving onto Round 2. Everyone who has reviewed at least one article will automatically be moved forward, and will be placed in pools. You have until October 29 to take advantage of this opportunity. It is our hope that this will make up for the unforeseen glitch in our scoring system. Best of wishes to all of you as you continue to help improve articles and make Wikipedia a better place. Greetings, GA Cup competitors! Wednesday saw the end of Round 1. Jaguar took out Round 1 with an amazing score of 238. In a tight race for second, Peacemaker67 and Ritchie333 finished second and third with 152 and 141 points, respectively. Two users have scored the maximum five bonus points for article length (60,000 characters+). Anotherclown reviewed Spanish conquest of Yucatán (77,350 characters) and MrWooHoo reviewed Communist Party of China (76,740 characters). The longest review was by Bilorv who reviewed Caldas da Rainha. The review was approximately 22,400 characters which earned s/he two bonus points (20, 000 - 29, 999 characters). In Round 1, 117 reviews were completed, making the first round of the GA Cup a success! A total of 86 articles were removed from the backlog during the month of October! We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 2 so we can lower the backlog as much as possible. To qualify for the second round, one completed review was needed, which 28 users accomplished. Participants have been randomly put into 7 pools of 4; the top 2 in each pool will move onto Round 3. There will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 15th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 2 will start on November 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on November 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here Also, remember that a major rule change will go into affect starting on November 1, which marks the beginning of Round Two. Round 1 displayed a weakness in the rules, which we are correcting with this new rule. We believe that this change will make the competition more inherently fair. The new rule is: Your review must provide feedback/suggestions for improvement, and then you must wait until the nominator has responded and all issues/suggestions have been resolved before you can pass the article. Failure to follow this rule will result in disqualification. The judges will strictly enforce this new rule. Good luck and remember to have fun!

In another of her books Briggs, Katharine Mary (1979),
Abbey Lubbers, Banshees, & Boggarts: A Who's Who of Fairies, Penguin, pp. 67–{{
citation}}

Are you planning on working on any anatomy articles this Autumn? Do you have any interest on expanding any of the various article on the ear. Before I can do much editing, I have a number of outdoor tasks to complete before the weather becomes too wet and cold here in the UK. Incidentally, I tried emailing you some months ago. I usually have my emails switched off, because I think that talk pages are adequate for almost all communication. When I emailed you, I switched on my Wiki email to send you a message and then immediately switched it off. I am not sure if this resulted in a email being sent to you.

At the moment the amount of commentary and support at the FAC is limited and I feel it is unfortunate if an article fails at FAC for lack of willing reviewers. It has ended up as rather a long article and I must admit that reviewing shorter ones is less time consuming and therefore more attractive. Cwmhiraeth ( talk) 11:02, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello! I was wondering if you could possibly help me? As part of the DYK process, I have attempted my first review; DYK Cross-border Terminal, Tijuana International Airport.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to
our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Hi everyone,
It was brought to the attention of the judges that there was an error in the newsletter sent out earlier today.

Hi Casliber: I noticed that you're a DYK admin (per this page). I have withdrawn the above-linked DYK nomination, but I hesitate to tag the discussion with {{ db-g7}} because technically I am not the author of the only substantial content therein. Is there any other way of dealing with this matter, or should the discussion just be tagged per WP:G7 anyway? NorthAmerica 1000 21:14, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

I had not realised that there were outstanding issues raised by you at the Barn owl FAC. I was absent from editing Wikipedia for 9 days after a thunderstorm ruined my computer (excuses, excuses!) and thought I had attended to everything there. I always find taxonomy issues difficult and any help you can give in getting this part of the article to an acceptable standard would be much appreciated. The arbitration committee declined the request for a case involving the DYK wheel warring. The arbitrators comments here may be helpful. For the arbitration committee, -- S Philbrick (Talk) 14:31, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
The article Australian raven you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Australian raven for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Shrikethrush, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Thrush. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
