Spassky District ( Russian: Спа́сский райо́н) is an administrative [1] and municipal [4] district ( raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 693.3 square kilometers (267.7 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the town of Spassk. [1] Population: 13,008 ( 2010 Census); [3] 13,827 ( 2002 Census); [6] 15,475 ( 1989 Soviet census). [7] The population of Spassk accounts for 57.2% of the district's total population. [3]
Until March 14, 2006, the district was called Bednodemyanovsky (Беднодемьяновский). [8]
