Luninsky District ( Russian: Лу́нинский райо́н) is an administrative [1] and municipal [5] district ( raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the north of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,705 square kilometers (658 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Lunino. [1] Population: 19,944 ( 2010 Census); [3] 23,247 ( 2002 Census); [7] 26,211 ( 1989 Soviet census). [8] The population of Lunino accounts for 39.6% of the district's total population. [3]
