Bessonovsky District ( Russian: Бессо́новский райо́н) is an administrative [1] and municipal [4] district ( raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the center of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,249 square kilometers (482 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Bessonovka. [1] Population: 45,296 ( 2010 Census); [3] 41,647 ( 2002 Census); [6] 45,515 ( 1989 Soviet census). [7] The population of Bessonovka accounts for 25.2% of the district's total population. [3]
