July 2008 to July 2009 Information

FTD

Since were almost done with the FTD, I was wondering, what should we do next? I would like to do the same thing, but this time with the European Union. I would rather do this over all of europe, because were curruntly working on a country, and even though the EU is not a single nation, I think they have one constitution.

Also what needs to be done to List of tallest buildings in Frankfurt (besides article creation), United States, and Las Vegas? Alaskan assassin ( talk) 22:24, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about my late reply. For awhile, I will probaly be very inactive. But when I get a chance, I would like to go ahead and start on the Las Vegas and US list, before Frankfurt, just to get the FTD over with. Alaskan assassin ( talk) 18:25, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Since this FTD is about 90% done, I think I'm going to start the second FTD: Tallest buildings in Asia (includes Dubai and Israel). Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 23:25, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
It also appears that Alaskan assassin has left Wikipedia, see this and this. In addition, his user page has been deleted and his user talk page blanked and protected. Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 00:26, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

List of tallest building in DC

I noticed you penchant for creating list of tallest building articles and I was wondering if you would be interested in helping me create a list of the tallest buildings in Washington, D.C. Remember ( talk) 12:35, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

I have now started the article here List of the tallest buildings in Washington, D.C.. Help out if you can! Remember ( talk) 04:24, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Glad you like the article so far. I'm going to slowly work my way through the redlinks, but please feel free to help out with whatever is needed. I think this has a good shot at being a FL and your help would be most appreciated in getting there. Remember ( talk) 14:03, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the help. Please keep it up. With all three of us chipping away at this article it will be a FL in no time. Remember ( talk) 12:57, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks so much.! Can I help with Hong Kong in any way? S R X 00:12, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Ohh, thats the part I hate, creating articles. lol Thanks for the comments, Hong Kong looks great, that will also make it to FL in no time ;)-- S R X 00:25, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I nominated DC for FLC, thanks for a great collaboration. S R X 02:39, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Absolutely. S R X 02:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Topping out

What is the proper definition of topping out? I think they are working on a floor in the low 90s of the 92-story Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago). Will it be topped out when the top floor is completed or when the spire is completed?

Triple Crown

You are a triple crown winner and don't even know it. Wikipedia:CROWN. Remember ( talk) 14:07, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Indianapolis Buildings

First of all thank you for helping out, you're the first to give me some help. But I have a question about Indianapolis' ranking within the country. I only counted 22 cities in the note with larger skylines. What am I missing? Thanks! HoosierState Talk 04:09, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Yep that's exactly it, thank you very much! Also should the list include the Soldiers & Sailors Monument? If so I'm working on that. HoosierState Talk 04:27, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I just noticed in your list that Baltimore is also tied with Indianapolis. Was it just forgotten or was it left out for a specific reason? Thanks again for the all the work you've done with the list! HoosierState Talk 18:35, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I've read through the whole article twice and I believe it can be nominated for FLC now. What do you think? HoosierState Talk 20:11, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Questions

Glad to see that you are back. Do you think we should nominate the Las Vegas list to finish off the city portion of this FTD? Also, do you mind creating articles for Hong Kong skyscraper complexes? Lastly, would you consider the Guangzhou Sightseeing and TV tower a skyscraper or a TV tower. Though the 'building' is called a TV tower, it does have 37 floors in the hyperbolic structure from 0 to 1,490 feet in height. Skyscraperpage seems to consider the 'building' a supertall skyscraper, but Emporis doesn't. Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 04:19, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Great! Just let me know which articles don't have Chinese names listed on SkyscraperPage, I will deal with those.

Now that WP:SKY has soooooooooooo many FLs, I'd like to see the article skyscraper top GA-status at the very least. Do you think we should start working on it once WP:FTD and HK are done?

24th tallest building in DC?

Hi: When you're going to a 12-story building, isn't that more appropriate for a list rather than an article of its own? I'm just wondering ... Best, RayAYang ( talk) 00:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Proposal to revise primary usage guidelines, would affect Worcester

Wikipedia_talk:Disambiguation#Propose_change_in_guidelines_for_primary_usage: I've proposed a change in general guidelines on primary usage that would result in a move for Worcester.-- Loodog ( talk) 15:27, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Notability issues and afd debates

Welcome back! While you were gone, there were several Afd debates the following buildings (result: keep): China 117 Tower ( AFD), 16 East Broad Street ( AFD) and 1600 Broadway ( AFD)., and 1000 Connecticut Avenue ( AFD). As you can see, the rationale for nominating 16 E B S, 1600 B, and 1000 C A was that those articles were unencyclopedic directory entries ( WP:NOT). For China 117, the rationales were non-notable and fails WP:CRYSTAL (yea, a 570 m building that will be the tallest in China is not notable and despite the fact it's under construction, the article fails WP:CRYSTAL). Yes, this issue has dragged on and on for months, but perhaps there's light at the end of the tunnel here, with this proposed guideline: Wikipedia:Notability (Buildings, structures, and landmarks). Here is what it says so far for Office Buildings, but the guideline isn't very detailed.
Office buildings

Office buildings, including government and private, are only notable if they are the subject of multiple, independent reliable sources.

Let's expand that guideline and decide the fate of hundreds of skyscraper-stub articles. Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 18:26, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, besides these Afd debates and HK reaching FL-status (great work!), I have cleaned up the article and tallest buildings example of the WP:SKY project. I think we should clean up the featured content section of the main project page; it's getting a bit too long.
Emporis and SkyscraperPage are both independent, reliable sources. Both websites are independent of the building they cover (to avoid spam and advertising) and are reliable, since their data is check and verified before it's posted on the webpage. Of course, there are many editors who think both of these sites are directories, and thus, articles that are based only on Emporis and SkyscraperPage info are unencyclopedic per WP:NOT. For the guideline, it should cover all types of buildings (mixed-use, hotel, industrial) with categories for mixed-use, residential, and office, since those are the most common types of buildings and a category that covers all other types of buildings (communication, etc).
From the Emporis Bellevue (it is malfunctioning as of 22:44 Pacific time, 2008-08-01, as it seems like buildings taller than 100 m have disappeared from the database), there are several building complexes in the city, so two or three articles may get around seven or eight bluelinks. It seems like buildings complexes are less prone to Afd nominations. Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab

Hey, another?

Hey Raime, hope you noticed that List of tallest buildings in Washington, D.C. passed it's FLC. Want to work on another one?-- S R X 23:17, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

That would be awesome, but what else is there to do to the article?-- S R X 01:27, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
How about restoring List_of_tallest_structures_in_Paris back to FL-status? Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 05:52, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Let's do the Paris list.-- S R X 14:49, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Cool. So should we reformat the table to like the one used in List of tallest buildings in Washington, D.C.?-- S R X 16:16, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
So let me get this straight, we should format the paris list like the London list? or like the american lists? S R X 17:06, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh okay. So shall we begin? Also, remove the color formatting right?-- S R X 17:10, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Do you think we should split off the buildings of La Defense off into a separate list? Right now the Paris list is a big mess of both buildings in the city itself and ones in the suburbs. The Emporis database is still messed up, so we will have to go with SkyscraperPage listings. Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 18:11, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

How about a "tallest in Paris" list and followed by a "tallest in suburbs" list. The Detroit list is an example of this. Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 18:42, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Then I think we will need to leave the "district" column in the list. Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 18:55, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Question: Why do we need to list the districts? Shouldn't the structures and buildings be split into different tables? Also, is it okay if ThinkBlue joins us? S R X 03:10, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm, maybe we should "switch it around", that is, move the Paris list to "List of tallest buildings in La Defense" (since it has more skyscrapers), and list the Paris buildings and structures in a separate list below the La Defense skyscrapers (main list). How does that sound? Cheers. Trance addict - Armin van Buuren - Oceanlab 03:15, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

U.S county naming

Hello. Something I've recently noticed is that most if not all U.S. counties are predismabiguated with , Statename. Including this unnecessary information in the article titles seems like a violation of naming guidelines and conventions since precision only is supposed to come into play "when necessary". I've raised the issue in a narrow sense at Talk:Los Angeles County, California#Predisambiguated_article_title, but am interested in whether you agree county names should be at [[Countyname County]] unless there is a conflict to work out. GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Another project besides the list I wanted to work on is improving Charlotte kyscrapers articles by rewriting them with proper refrences. Thanks for the heads up. I was already in the process of passing it when I saw your message. Good job on fixing all of the links and citations. I just saw your user page, and wanted to say good job on all of the tallest buildings featured lists. I used several of them as a model for developing the San Diego list. Anyway, good work, and if you need help with anything, let me know. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 ( talkcontrib) 03:48, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I think the only major change was adding the coordinates (I'm sure I didn't make any friends with editors working on future lists as reviewers are seeming to make the coordinates a requirement). Hopefully it won't require too much updating for your multiple lists. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 ( talkcontrib) 03:55, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Trump Tower

I will probably run it through PR first. My anticipated FAC queue right now is Crown Fountain, Rob Pelinka (pending a once over by Dabomb87), McDonald's Cycle Center (pending a PR) and then probably Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago). I have four PRs going on so McDs is next. Then, Trump.-- TonyTheTiger ( t/ c/ bio/ WP:CHICAGO/ WP:LOTM) 17:50, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey there

Regarding List of tallest buildings in Tulsa, Oklahoma, how were you able to figure out the overall average height of the city's skyline? Showtime2009 ( talk) 18:49, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

RI 4

Hey. thanks for working on Route 4's article, but I just rewrote a clean introduction to the article, and no offense, your rewrite looks horrible, so I am rewriting mine for the sake of accuracy and cleanliness. Just out of curiousity, was there a need to write things when i was doing the job? No offense, I am just curious, because I just rewrote the entire history now. Please, just back off for a few more minutes. Mitch/ HC32 22:06, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Well, the article's basically finished now. But the lead itself was a bit messy ;| - I am also trying to follow U.S. Roads project standards. So, I went ahead and put it at WP:GAN, and moved some of your stuff around. Hopefully, if you don't mind, we can get it to Featured Article at some point. Mitch/ HC32 22:29, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
I've been on Route 4 millions of times mind you, and its still a short mention as is. Also we can't use personal stuff as a source ([WP:NOR]]). Mitch/ HC32 22:40, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Dunno, that was there before we started. Mitch/ HC32 22:59, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Tallest list

I am new to wikipedia an I did some work on List of tallest buildings in Singapore. Could you assist me is bringing it up to Featured? Also I noticed that the US FTD is almost done and I would like to help with that, but I'm new, so I'm going to need some guidence. Cherub79 ( talk) 22:05, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

I have got all the pictures moved to the foruth colum. I decided to message you because I noticed that you were on top of the WP Skyscrapers mambers list and thought you might be the founder, and have the most experince. Another project besides the list I wanted to work on is improving Charlotte kyscrapers articles by rewriting them with proper refrences. If the hieght and floors are already stated in the info box, should they be mentioned in the first sentence? What about other infobox facts? Also do you there is enough info on the internet to get Bank of America Corprate Center to good or maybe even featured status? But I'm gussing you need more than internet links to get it passed. Cherub79 ( talk) 22:03, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
As I'm sure you noticed, I have removed the colums you mentioned. IF you know a site, I'll be willing to get the Chinese translations for the building, but I can probaly find one myself. If there anything else I can do to help, just tell me. Cherub79 ( talk) 00:05, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I have got my first article made, Comcentre. I might be able to make a few more today, and then I'll start on the Coordinates after that. Cherub79 ( talk) 15:30, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Lippo Centre, Singapore is up. Cherub79 ( talk) 01:55, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
I didnt have enough time to get the articles up and get the coordinates the past couple of days. I'll be able to edit some this weekend, but not from July 20th to July 25th. Good job on the article. I would like to finish up the Featured topic drive and then work on BACC, just beacuse its so close and BACC will take some work. Cherub79 ( talk) 16:33, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
I have been busy or on vaction last few week, and I will also be gone next Friday to Monday. I can help with the new FTD, just tell me witch list your working on. I would also like to start on BACC, but scince I'm still a n00b, I'll need help. Cherub79 ( talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:15, 25 July 2009 (UTC).

Chicago Spire

What do you think the chances are that someone from WP:SKY will try to respond at Talk:Chicago Spire/GA1?-- TonyTheTiger ( t/ c/ bio/ WP:CHICAGO/ WP:LOTM) 02:52, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

I see Chicago Spire was kept. Great work. I'll drop you a note when I put Trump Tower through PR and FAC.-- TonyTheTiger ( t/ c/ bio/ WP:CHICAGO/ WP:LOTM) 03:46, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Re:List of tallest buildings in Oklahoma City

Sure, you can re-add the tallest approved section and removed comments not regarding the height. Good luck with the FT :) Showtime2009 ( talk) 09:43, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Well now that you're back, I think we can take this voyage, no? =]-- Truco 503 02:11, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

In regards to the Mobile list, its fine. It has more than 10 items, so it passes theoretically the length requirement. Good job on it btw :) In regards to the Paris list, whenever you're ready to work on it will be fine with me, I have another list I'm working on as well, so take your time =]-- Truco 503 00:44, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Do you still want to work on this? -- Truco 503 21:40, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
