Thanks for your contributions at CFD!

As for the discussion at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2020_April_5#Category:Indian_women_biographers, I would have let it run longer as new points were being made. Anyway, no harm done.

It's good to have more people on the team. The CFD backlog is shorter than I can remember for a long time. Let's hope we can keep it that way! – Fayenatic London 10:02, 25 April 2020 (UTC) reply

Drainage basins CfD

Hi, yesterday you closed this CfD as keep. That's OK for 10 of the 11 listed categories, but IMO the consensus was that the first one, Category:Dnieper River system, should be moved to Dnieper basin, since its main article is at Dnieper and most other drainage basin categories are at "Foo basin", not at "Foo system". Could you correct this, or should I list this category again at CfD or WP:CFDS? Markussep Talk 07:35, 9 May 2020 (UTC) reply

RE CFD on April 13; on April 25 you approved the renaming of categories for Canada, Russia and the United States e.g to Category:Railway stations in Canada by year of opening; but the category for China which I had added to the proposal i.e. Category:Railway stations in China by opening year to Category:Railway stations in China by year of opening was not included. Your supervote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Breast Tax is far from making any sense. The delete !votes were absolutely clear with establishing that there is a clear lack of WP:HISTRS which significantly covered the subject. There was a lack of even recent media sources covering the subject significantly without mainly relying on Nangeli and Channar revolt. The "Keep" voters mainly rely on the lousy argument described at WP:THEREMUSTBESOURCES.

Now since WP:POVFORKs are strongly discouraged, where you saw any consensus for "Keep"? Wareon ( talk) 04:21, 21 May 2020 (UTC) reply

Request to put wikipedia page on permanent protection.

Hi, We have been seeing an increased number of vandalism on Devendra Fadnavis Wikipedia page. You had placed the page on semi protection on the 14th of May, for which we are really grateful. During the protection period the act of vandalism ceased but as soon as the protection period was over (18th May) the vandalism restarted. Hi. I'm confused as to what your decision actually is and why. I see your comment that "The result of the discussion was: standardize to "shows" for now", but it's obvious that there was no consensus for this, and in the case of no consensus, the convention is to leave as is. It's only last year that "Category:Welsh-language television programs" was uncontroversially moved to "Category:Welsh-language television programmes". Deb ( talk) 19:39, 28 May 2020 (UTC) reply

I agree with Deb. Clearly bibliomaniac is an American who has trouble counting. I'd bet money that User:Fayenatic_london is actually Chinese. And clearly BrownHairedGirl would see the reverse, as she's the one who nominated the name change, and had already renamed a load of TV categories in 2019 to her preferred choice, to give herself a better argument.

Move of earthquake magnitude maintenance categories

Hi Bibliomaniac15, the renaming of these categories was carried out without leaving redirects, which has broken the links, with many pages now having redlinked categories e.g. List of earthquakes in the United States. When Category:M_? was originally moved to Category:Articles using unknown earthquake magnitude scales, a redirect was left. What was different this time? Currently all the maintenance categories are empty, bar the original renaming mentioned above, which still follows the redirect. I would be grateful if you would add the redirects for the other categories, if that is something that is easy for you to do, thanks. Mikenorton ( talk) 11:05, 29 May 2020 (UTC) reply

CfD outcome for The Sandlot film series

Hi. I'm not sure I agree with the decision to rename Category:The Sandlot film series to Category:The Sandlot (film series). I think the appropriate name was the one I suggested in the discussion since the only articles with the category are the films from the series. There is not an article about the series as a whole or articles about any of the characters, soundtracks, or video games from the series. I believe my rationale is supported by categories which use the "film series" parenthetical disambiguator vs. those that simply use "films" as part of the category name. For example, there is Category:Scream (film series), which contains articles about many aspects of the series and Category:Scream films, which contains only the articles about the films themselves. Contested close

Hello, I'd like you to reconsider the close to this particular CfD [3]. There's a naming convention in place which clearly establishes 'Macedonian' as the term for nationality. The policy was based on a wide consensus established by a RfC. A recent local consensus of five editors was obviously not aware of this and changed the name of the category. Same goes for '‎Category:Macedonian politicians by party'. -- FlavrSavr ( talk) 18:11, 3 August 2020 (UTC) reply

  • FlavrSavr is correct ("According to the official prescriptions of the Prespa agreement, the adjectival form "North Macedonian" is generally to be avoided"). I'm surprised you ignored my view that the place to start is Category:Macedonian people as the rename can now be undone as a speedy (C2C), as it introduces an inconsistency into an otherwise harmonious tree. Also some of the support was in fact for 'North Macedonia', not the demonym 'North Macedonian'. Oculi ( talk) 09:31, 4 August 2020 (UTC) reply

Undeletion request

Per Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion, I am requesting that Category:Pupils of Olivier Messiaen be undeleted per the opposition to the deletion of Pupils of x categories at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive1048#Out-of-process category deletions by user:Hyacinth. Clearly, if articles fail to mention the teachers of the musician who is the topic of the article the way to fix that is to mention the musician's teachers in the articles formerly contained in that category and recreate the category. Hyacinth ( talk) 02:01, 3 November 2020 (UTC) reply

@ Hyacinth: The reason why the categories were undeleted was because your original deletions were completely out of process, as BrownHairedGirl pointed out, not really because of the merits of the category tree itself. I don't feel comfortable overturning the consensus at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2020_May_22#Category:Pupils_of_Olivier_Messiaen, and your citation of WP:REFUND doesn't apply here ("a process intended to assist users in restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria...or in deletion debates with little or no participation other than the nominator"). I would say you have two options. You can either:
  1. Place the entire Category:Music pupils by teacher tree at CFD and see what the community's thoughts are on the merits of the tree. You could even request to re-review Category:Pupils of Olivier Messiaen and see if there's a consensus to reestablish it.
  2. If you feel like you have new information regarding why the category should be recreated, list it on WP:DRV as a request for recreation.
The thing that you should not do, of course, is unilaterally recreate the category, which would totally defeat the purpose of having a CFD in the first place. bibliomaniac 1 5 03:12, 3 November 2020 (UTC) reply

  • When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
  • When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.

Concerns over Cannon

@ Bibliomaniac15: Greetings! The Cannon article that you nominated for FA has sentences (usually at the end of a paragraph) that appear unsourced. There are also some other inline templates such as "page needed". Another thing is that many of the images violate MOS:SANDWICH; could you take care of these? Cheers. RfA re-evaluation?

I have noticed multiple recent discussions at Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship regarding the lack of admins, the worries of a "post-admin era", the concerns about keeping up on assorted backlogs/maintenance, etc. Since you were my coach prior to my RfA back in 2008, I would be interested in your current opinion of me before I humbly offer my services again. I just want to help my beloved project, and alleviate the backlogs and stress in the areas that I know best, so that other admins would have more time to focus on other areas that they know better than I. - Adolphus79 ( talk) 22:35, 11 May 2021 (UTC) reply

Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

The page that I am referring is the greek version of Skanderbeg. If you notice the English version is completely different from the Greek one. This particular person keeps insisting that his mother was Serbian but there's no proof of her being Serbian even the English version says that.

Frances Gertrude McGill -- cases & methodology update

Hello Bibliomaniac15 -- way back in April, you were kind enough to peer review Frances Gertrude McGill, which I'm preparing to nominate for FA class. I've since updated the 'Cases and Methodology' section: I cut out miscellaneous info and chose three specific cases to focus on (which will hopefully better showcase McGill's role in police investigations). Would you be interested in taking a quick look and letting me know what you think? I'd appreciate any final feedback you may have. Alanna the Brave ( talk) 22:34, 3 August 2020 (UTC) reply

Hi, you asked:

Why did you interpret the addition of wikilinks as disruptive editing/vandalism here, here, and here?

Category:Pupils of Nadia Boulanger

Why was it deleted when she was arguably the most important composition teacher of the 20th century. And, also, there are other famous composition teachers that have his/her own categories, so why delete this one? Peace. — MuzikJunky ( talk) 06:09, 3 November 2020 (UTC) reply
