I am a structural geologist based in the UK. I did a Masters on the
Fracture Mechanics of quartz and a PhD on the formation of
shear zones. I continued doing research, particularly on the
Devonianbasins of
Norway and
Scotland, until my funding ran out. I started doing consulting work while waiting for that elusive permanent university post to come along. 34 years later I'm still consulting, although it's probably more accurate to say that I'm semi-retired. I've worked mainly on nuclear waste disposal problems and for the oil industry, so
no environmental issues at all.
I started contributing to Wikipedia in July 2006, concentrating on adding content to
structural geology, although more recently I've also worked on
earthquake articles and other general geology/geophysics pages.
Rewrite the
Geology of the Death Valley area to bring it up to date so that it can be resubmitted for FA review - need to find a more recent review to allow update, given the number of competing views on the past and current tectonics
