IUCN designations removed

I reverted all these edits that involved removing IUCN designations. I'm pretty sure the user had made an error in removing them. Most of the designations were added by you. I tagged you in one or two articles related to this. I put quite a few notes on the user's page ( User_talk:107.77.209.97). Not all of the edits the user made are bad--some did add WP:RS), but most had problems, so you can see there are quite a few notes of me pointing out the problem, trying to cleanup then up, and explain. If you see that I made any mistakes, please let me know. By the way, I am surprised you are not a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected areas. I just joined. -- David Tornheim ( talk) 12:02, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

  • @ David Tornheim: I got on a roll starting or improving articles on protected areas of Brazil a while back, then moved on. Mostly I was taking a fairly mechanical approach, starting with the standard information from ISA and the official government websites, then doing a quick web search to see if anything else of interest popped up. I would say that if ISA and IBAMA agree that (for example) Monge State Park is a Brazilian State Park, then by definition it is IUCN protected area category II. The actual quality of protection is a different question. I have no idea why this user would have felt Wikipedia was improved by removing the designations. Thank you for reverting the changes. Aymatth2 ( talk) 14:45, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
For the state parks, please add the source to the articles where the state parks are within the IUCN categories. They are not listed at their website, however. Funandtrvl ( talk) 23:56, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
Amyatth2: Thanks for the reverts. After discussing with Funandtrvl at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Protected_areas#IUCN_designations_removed_from_11_articles, I decided to take a different stance and only restore the IUCN_cat if I could find a matching IUC_ref. It appears there is an application procedure to get IUCN designation. I do think it would be useful for the articles to show what kind of protection is involved, but I can see why the IP's are deleting claims of IUCN designation if none is official. Maybe there is a way to show the type of protection without making it appear that it is an "official" IUCN. I made the suggestion of adding a parameter for "unofficial" IUCN designation. Until we come of with something we can all agree on the best way to handle protected areas that do not have IUCN_ref, I'm not going to revert those articles any more. I'm only working on articles where I can find the IUCN_ref, but I am happy to discuss what is the best approach for the case where no ref exists. -- David Tornheim ( talk) 02:33, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

I will revert edits that remove the IUCN designations of protected areas of Brazil. The Brazilians give formal legal definitions of the different types of protected areas in their SNUC framework, and each type has a corresponding IUCN designation. Where a SNUC unit is created by a state or municipality it is quite possible the administrator will fail to notify the IUCN, but that does not change the level of protection. Aymatth2 ( talk) 13:00, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Sounds reasonable. Do you have WP:RS saying that? I would mention it on the talk page of the Brazilian articles where you revert, or on the talk page of the list. If you have that, I'll probably back you up if the IPs show up again. -- David Tornheim ( talk) 17:48, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
It looks like Australia might have a similar program in place: [1]. I haven't had time to read it, but it might be a good source on the subject. -- David Tornheim ( talk) 17:53, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
Brazil models its conservation unit designations on the IUCN categories. pt:Sistema Nacional de Unidades de Conservação da Natureza has a table showing the correspondence. The Protected Planet list of Brazil's parks shows 222 have reported IUCN II and 120 have not reported. A random sample of national parks show they have all reported IUCN II. Where state parks and municipal nature parks have reported, they have also reported IUCN II. There are three exceptions. The adjoining Sucunduri State Forest and Sucunduri State Park are both reported in error as Park+VI, where the first is a Forest+VI and the second Park+II. The Serra Geral National Park is reported 1a, but that is also an error. Its MMA entry gives it IUCN II. National parks, state parks and municipal nature parks in Brazil all meet the same SNUC criteria and are all IUCN II. Aymatth2 ( talk) 23:51, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
Looking the other way, there as 229 IUCN II areas in Brazil of which 222 are parks, 6 are Ramsar sites and one is the Serra Dourada APA, which should be an IUCN VI. The APA surrounds the Serra Dourada State Park, which may explain the error. Aymatth2 ( talk) 00:03, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

  • @ Gervasevernon: Thanks. I start Wikipedia articles as a hobby, and often follow threads that lead from one article to another. I would have come to this subject from Comité des forges or Robert Pinot, or maybe from Humbert de Wendel. A Wikipedia article fits together what available online sources say, and can never be more than a superficial outline. This one says nothing about his childhood, very little about his civil service career, and gives no sense of what kind of person he was. It is a mechanical assembly of data. Thank you much in advance L-scriptor ( talk) 16:12, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

That is a large expansion, and a real improvement. I think it flows well and is logical. I am personally a bit obsessive about citation, and always give a citation for every assertion, so I would suggest that if you could add more citations that would be good, even with obvious facts. It would be better to be consistent with the {{ sfn}} citation style - I can fix that. Good work! Aymatth2 ( talk) 17:27, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Gaston Gradis.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Gaston Gradis.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{ Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. AntiCompositeNumber ( talk) 01:45, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

But it sounded so bad
That her friends called her mad,
And she quit it in less than a wük.
I am getting bored with Wikimedia and may spend more time here again. The advantage of articles about long-dead French people is that nobody reads them, so there are no problems with vandalism or deletion nominations. But there is a real shortage here of articles about mountain people. I thought you had retired back to the real world? Aymatth2 ( talk) 20:58, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

That glacier and some of the red links for lakes and rivers , hydro stations and a few monasteries etc, all look notable. Why is there no list of glaciers by size? this on German wiki is another missing glacier. The region is 450,000 km2 and poorly covered. I will give notice at WikiProject Lakes and WikiProject Canada, which would be the natural wikiprojects to include on its Talk page, though they are not. I dunno about how widely notices should be given otherwise.

Hey, obviously you and I disagree about a lot, but I think there is probably a lot more we could agree about, and work cooperatively upon. I think that if editors seek common ground and work on where they agree, it is better for Wikipedia than if the editors compete/combat/edit-war or whatever. For one example, another editor and I disagreed in the past about namings of post office articles and about a former disambiguation page (now List of United States Post Offices). However we could both agree that there were many missing articles about obviously notable post offices, and we worked on a lot of those together. Here, I wonder what we could find to agree upon and build upon. Perhaps some priorities about which lakes are most notable? Or maybe not. -- Doncram ( talk) 20:23, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi again. I see you've edited since 2009, and i myself started only a little earlier. Somewhere I referred to you as a "newish" editor, or at least "newish" in whatever topic area, I hope you don't mind that. I am feeling bad that in the several ongoing AFDs and discussions at talk pages, including also Talk:Ronald River, that it seems, well, contentious. I want to say "Hey, we are all volunteers here" and we should be grateful to other volunteers to contributing what they do. I honestly do appreciate that you have some interest/knowledge about lakes in Quebec or whatever, and that you are contributing. Including the idea that maybe including lists of lakes in articles about rivers/watersheds may be a productive way forward. (Though i am not completely sure, e.g. about what is to be included at MacDonald River (Quebec). I do hope we can work this out positively.
I invite you; could you please participate at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Commission de Toponymie for statement about earliest official naming? Let me say I am sorry if I seem argumentative or to be contending against you personally. It is probably because I feel a bit enlisted/motivated on these matters, maybe it is not completely appropriate, I am not sure. I think you might be trolling or goading me a bit though.
About disagreements in Wikipedia, I do think it can be very helpful to use various dispute resolution forums to bring in uninvolved expert or semi-expert opinions. I believe that the wp:Third Opinion forum and the wp:AFD forums work pretty well. I am not sure but I think i never opened a wp:RSN discussion, and I hope this one will be productive. -- Doncram ( talk) 01:20, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed some missing Bulgarian women's newspapers/journals and organizations and some red links on scholars in this in early 20th century Bulgaria. I wondered if it would interest you, though I have no doubt that you're busy with some topic! This is Women's Journal. If not, don't worry about it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:25, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

  • The language could be a stretch. I can usually handle Latin-based languages with some help from Google Translate, but not Slavic. I am rather absorbed in lakes and rivers of the Quebec north shore right now, and you are to blame. I got interested in one of your stubs that was/is up for deletion, Lac Terant, and one thing led to another. See the notice just above this one on Jumbo Lake. I think a reasonable way to handle small lakes where very little has been written is to redirect them to a article on the main river they drain into. That article can talk about the climate, terrain, etc, with a table listing the lakes in the watershed and their coordinates. If there are multiple lakes with the same name, often the case, a set index like List of lakes named McArthur could help readers find the one they are interested in, with a link to the river article. Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Ramesh Nagaraj Rao. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as " edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. Notice

The article Fernand Louis Gottlob has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No reliable source coverage for WP:GNG, and no evidence of passing WP:NARTIST.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — MarkH21 ( talk) 08:48, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

LoL cats

Hi, in edits such as this you're putting what is essentially (de facto) a dab page into a category, but as the linked pages are already categorized this doesn't do anything beyond cluttering up the category.

Taking a slightly wider view - there appears to be a lot of shuffling of these lists-of-lists pages between different maintenance reports (e.g. short pages that aren't stubs, orphaned pages) - we may even have editors working on different maintenance lists that are taking these pages round in a loop. Would it be better to try getting them deleted instead? DexDor (talk) 20:47, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Long lists of lists requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

TheNews (Nigeria)

Hi, greetings. 9 years ago you redirected a page of TheNews magazine to this page P.M. News which are obviously different source, but published by one group company ICNL and have 30% related articles with some different workers in this page TheNews magazine and P.M. News company and different publication place. Please I will like you to permitted me so that I'll create this page TheNews Magazine again. Much Regards ( F5pillar 21:15, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

@ F5pillar: If you are confident that TheNews is a notable magazine, by all means expand TheNews (Nigeria) into an article on the subject. You should be careful to base the article mostly on reliable independent sources. That is, it should reflect what these sources have said about the magazine rather than what it has to say about itself. Aymatth2 ( talk) 01:28, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
You mean i should expand it in P.M. News or i should write the article on it own TheNews magazine (Nigeria), bcuz it is a news magazine. Much regards ( F5pillar 17:43, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
You could make it part of P.M. News, or a stand-alone article. Or you could move P.M. News to Independent Communications Network, and make P.M. News and TheNews sections in the larger article. The title of the stand-alone article should be TheNews, or TheNews (Nigeria). If it is part of a larger article, WP:Notability is less of a concern, although the description should still be based on WP:Reliable sources. Aymatth2 ( talk) 20:29, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, I've been working on my Spanish and watching TV from countries like Chile, Ecuador and Nicaragua! I'll have to watch some Costa Rican TV soon! Astonishing how much is still missing. just been working on Jalrez District and coming across a sea of red links as usual.† Encyclopædius 13:48, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Mmm Kot-e Ashro looks like it is actually the town of Jalrez itself now. Falling Rain isn't reliable but is usually right on coordinates and looking on google maps it says it's Jalrez now. This source though says Kot used to be the district capital until taken by the Taliban. Odd. What do you think?† Encyclopædius 15:02, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Google maps shows Jalriz at 34°28′24″N 68°38′36″E / 34.4732°N 68.6434°E / 34.4732; 68.6434 on the highway about 10km to the west of Falling Rain's Kotah-ye `Ashro at 34°26′57″N 68°47′38″E / 34.4491°N 68.7940°E / 34.4491; 68.7940. This map shows Koteasro between Jalrez to the west and Maydan Shahr to the east, about where Falling Rain places it. They are different places. A really detailed map of the district would help a lot. Aymatth2 ( talk) 16:20, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
Ah it is right then, I looked at it and as the valley going north on both looks so similar thought it was the same place without zooming out and seeing Jalrez to the west! Can you find the coordinates for Zaiwalat, I suspect one of the databases does have it under a different transliterated name. This source on the subdivisions briefly mentions that Zaiwalat is associated with Kot-e Ashro, if that's true my coordinates are too far west and it'll be to the east of Jalrez town.† Encyclopædius 16:36, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Found it I think.† Encyclopædius 16:58, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Engenheiro Beltrão/draft moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Engenheiro Beltrão/draft, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. ( ?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed ( verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. KylieTastic ( talk) 16:03, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

  • Actually that template reason is misleading - I moved as it had a number of red errors, placeholders and was named /draft indicating it was onging work. Draft seams a more reasonable place to work this and the template to a basic working standard then you can either submit for AfC review or move back yourself. Brazil municipalities

If you can compile something generic as an example I will make a proposal for a bot to update all of the Brazilan municipalities with adequate data. There's absolutely no excuse for one liners to still exist on them in 14 years. Can you find enough from the generic sources do you think for a start class article? † Encyclopædius 14:07, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

@ Encyclopædius: I expanded Igaci, mainly using the IBGE entry, but with some data from Geonames and Mindat.
  • This is all raw data, so no copyright issue.
  • Note the number format is 12.333,44 rather than 12,333.44
  • All the data is "as of" 2010/2017/2019. A key concern should be the ability to add updates.
  • Possibly the bot should be an online tool, where the user enters municipality name, picks the IBGE, Geonames and Mindat entries from search results, then sees the generated code.
  • This is to allow cut-and-paste into existing pages
Aymatth2 ( talk) 19:33, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Good job, though not keen on the financial list. If you can convert it to prose and just cite a handful of those figures that would be an improvement. if we have that data available for every municipality though it looks bot worthy. About 5500 articles. † Encyclopædius 20:33, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
I prefer to leave the financial details. They seem to be available for all municipalities. I do not see a good way for a bot to select the relevant ones, and to some readers they would all be relevant: the fluctuations are interesting. I tried to put them into a graph, but could not find a template I liked - one that showed the numbers without the need to hover over a bar.
The municipality's income and expenditure are quite different from GPD/cap, so should be given in separate paragraphs.
In w:pt:Igaci there is a sizable (but unsourced) section on history. If that were added between the sections on demographics and economy the article would be more balanced. It could also use information on geology, weather (there may be a source), mountains, rivers, lakes, roads, airports, villages, economic activities, famous people etc. If you imagine the target article, I think the economic details will seem less obtrusive. Aymatth2 ( talk) 00:31, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

@ Encyclopædius: I have added some more content, some from another IBGE site and some climate data from the bot-generated Swedish wiki entry (which was not linked, for some reason). I think this is about as much as can be derived for all the Brazilian municipalities by a screen-scraping tool. Obviously much more content could be found by a web search. Aymatth2 ( talk) 15:06, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Looks much better, great job, I'll make a proposal a bit later.† Encyclopædius 15:47, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

  • @ Encyclopædius: Being bored, I made a template, {{ Brazil municipality}}, and tried another municipality Draft:Engenheiro Beltrão using the template. It could be saved using {{subst|Brazil municipality |name...}} and later edited to add text. I could not see a way to pass the climate values from the Swedish version in a parameter, so they would have to be pasted in after saving the first version. The bot may skip the template and generate the wikitext direct. Anyway, the sources used for Igaci also work for Engenheiro Beltrão, so the concept is proved. Aymatth2 ( talk) 18:04, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
I copied the draft over to Engenheiro Beltrão, then added some text. Perhaps some enthusiast will add more. Also Cocalinho, Cacaulândia, Saudade do Iguaçu. Aymatth2 ( talk) 20:17, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Cacaulândia

Super, shall I still propose a bot to do it all?† Encyclopædius 11:14, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

  • @ Encyclopædius: Yes, if you think anyone would do it. I could have done it myself a few years ago, but my web skills are rusty. I see it as a web page where
    • The user opens the web page, and enters the identifiers (the first parameters in the template) and the Swedish Wikipedia page name,
    • The web server uses the identifiers to form the source urls,
    • The web server gets the source pages, scrapes the data, and then displays the text of the template with the parameters all filled out (or the full wikitext of the target page)
    • The user copies and pastes this into the target page, saves, and then cleans up.
I think it has to be user-driven, municipality by municipality, because there may be irregularities in the identifiers of the source pages, and will often be some data in the existing stub that should be preserved. But the screen-scraping should work because all the source pages are machine-generated from databases, so all have identical format. We may also want to go back over the pages in the future to get updates to some of the data. Possibly the user could give the web page a list of municipalities, and then click through them.
There are probably many other areas of Wikipedia that could use a similar approach, cloning data on stars, ships or species from authoritative databases. Aymatth2 ( talk) 11:44, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Agreed, there's thousands, hundreds of thousands of stubs even which could we restarted with something decent. I'm not a big fan of generic bot creations but they're very useful in laying down a consistent foundation to build upon. I'll make a proposal shortly, in the meantime, see if you can find anything for Yokouma, I have suggested merging most of the Burkina stubs into a list with population data as there's currently hundreds of short stubs.† Encyclopædius 11:50, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

I've made a proposal at the village pump. Best to remove words like "recent" though, as it quickly gets out of date, 2006 still seems recent on here!† Encyclopædius 12:12, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Markussep I know has an interest in municipalities and standardising things... † Encyclopædius 12:15, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Moved to Wikipedia:Bot requests.† Encyclopædius 12:01, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Yokouma

There's another Yokouma, the French source you used Is about Yokouma, Gomboussougou Department. Geonames doesn't recognize them, I wonder if there's an alt name. What we propose for Brazil ought to be done for other countries with info available too. Chinese counties and townships are generally short stubs or missing articles too. We need a MunicipalityBot, I think I'll name it that. If it an sort out Brazil it can sort out others when we get there. Too much to do here, and I'm typing on my iPad in the sun at the moment listening to Earl Hines!† Encyclopædius 13:23, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

  • There may not be another Yokouma. The French source is about the Yokouma association, a charity, that was distributing goods to poor people in Gonboussougou. Yokouma means "solidarity" in the Bissa language, which seems to be the main language of the Zabré Department. Gomboussougou Department adjoins Zabré Department to the northwest, so probably also has Bissa speakers.
  • I looked for Yoko Uma, Yokuma, Yokooma, Iokouma: no luck. The two government sources use Yokouma so that is presumably the name. Probably just a few huts around a well on a dirt road.
  • If a geostub does not give any information at all it is worse than useless, because the reader clicks on a link to the stub and gets nothing. But if there is some information, even if it is just the population, the stub has some use. I try to see it from the casual reader's viewpoint. They want to find out about the place. We could put the data in a table entry or could put it in an article. An article is more what the reader would expect. If they are jumped to a table entry we have no way to highlight the search name in the table, so they may not spot it right away. They may know something about the subject. The table entry would not have an [edit] link, but the article would, so they would be more likely to add information to the article.
  • Brazil has an unusually well-organized geography database. What we need is not so much a bot as a screen-scraping tool, and these tend to be very site-specific. They retrieve pages from the source websites, then look for specific strings of text/mark-up, and extract text near to it. So perhaps the tool looks for the next word after the string "População no último censo [2010]" on the source page, and displays that word after the string "|2010pop = " on its output page.
  • The approach could be used for anything where there is a database-generated site. So http://www4.rncan.gc.ca/search-place-names/unique/EFQBT could be used for Canadian lakes, towns, mountains etc.. Someone who had written a tool for one type of data (e.g. Brazil municipalities) could clone and adapt it to support a different type of data (e.g. Canadian lakes). It would probably be very difficult to generalize it though.

I would have come to this subject from Comité des forges or Robert Pinot, or maybe from Humbert de Wendel. A Wikipedia article fits together what available online sources say, and can never be more than a superficial outline.

Very dead people

You are writing too much about French dead people. Have some Limericks. Uncle G ( talk) 18:50, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Lately I have mostly been over at Wikimedia, writing templates and making policy pages translatable into obscure languages. Pointless, really.
A charming young student of Grük
Once tried to acquire Volapük
But it sounded so bad
That her friends called her mad,
And she quit it in less than a wük.
I am getting bored with Wikimedia and may spend more time here again. The advantage of articles about long-dead French people is that nobody reads them, so there are no problems with vandalism or deletion nominations. But there is a real shortage here of articles about mountain people. I thought you had retired back to the real world? Aymatth2 ( talk) 20:58, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Aymatth, can you do some of that fancy stuff for Spuistraat that you did for Bloemgracht and others? Thanks! Drmies ( talk) 02:49, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

  • I suspect that by ″fancy stuff″ Drmies means {{ translated page}}. ☺ That list of redlinks that will never be articles is quite amusing, now.

I mentioned some old California history over on User talk:Drmies. I remember that you liked the governors of New Mexico.

@ Drmies: Dank je! I picked up a Dutch phrase book for 20p on Amazon! Alstublieft and tot ziens are new words today! I see the wiki commons has phrase category for Dutch Useful! Yes, I've begun cleaning up Tibet place articles, a lot of work needed but I'll get there eventually. Wikipedia as you know is a giant time sink, difficult to spend time on here when you want to put a lot of time into different things!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:34, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi, good to se eyou active again. I've just been improving this, I wondered if you'd be interested in adding anything or/and blue linking a few of the articles. That glacier and some of the red links for lakes and rivers , hydro stations and a few monasteries etc, all look notable. The source says Purugangri Glacier is the third largest glacier in the world and can't even see a mention on here! Why is there no list of glaciers by size? this on German wiki is another missing glacier. The region is 450,000 km2 and poorly covered. It could use the Lhasa treatment!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:09, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

I just tried to write that in Spanish without assistance, many errors but I'm getting there! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:42, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Roberts Landing, California

On 7 September 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Roberts Landing, California, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the polluted Roberts Landing on San Francisco Bay, California, was cleaned up to create a housing development and a marsh, now home to the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Roberts Landing, California. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page ( here's how, Roberts Landing, California), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

AFD notice, other

Please note that an article you created, Jumbo Lake, is up for deletion at AFD. Oh... i see you already commented, that was fast.

Thank you!

Hi, can you start this from French wiki [2]? Hope you're OK, you've been quiet of late.† Encyclopædius 21:52, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

  • @ Encyclopædius: I did a rough translation, badly lacking citations. I may dig around for sources and expand it a bit. All is well but I have been a bit lazy about starting articles lately. Aymatth2 ( talk) 13:30, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

ITN recognition for Garba Nadama

On 8 May 2020, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Garba Nadama, which you created. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Black Kite (talk) 14:51, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Cheers, keep safe KylieTastic ( talk) 16:06, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Can you find anything on that? I've not checked in on the bot proposal I'd guess it's been stalled and no much interest?† Encyclopædius 16:31, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Can you look into this? The issue is that they were created using false data. They may be real places but a web search doesn't turn up the sources needed, I may be wrong though. :-)† Encyclopædius 16:42, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
