Hello, Abonzz. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Bojana Sentaler, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Deletion discussion about Natasha Pavlovich

Hello, Abonzz,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Natasha Pavlovich should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Natasha Pavlovich .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of Serbian Americans, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page CFL ( check to confirm |  fix with Dab solver). Speedy deletion nomination of Jelena Behrend

Hello Abonzz,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Jelena Behrend for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Jelena Behrend moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Jelena Behrend, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. ( ?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed ( verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the confirms on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. Sam Sailor 21:30, 28 January 2018 (UTC) reply

How many more citations would you require for the Behrend page? Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help! Abonzz

@ Abonzz: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm Alfie, and I recieved your help request. In this case, it's important that the citations you provide demonstrate the notability of the subject: I'd suggest you read WP:Notability for advice on this front. The quantity of citations is not quite as important as the quality of citations, but in this case more are definitely needed.

I did look myself for more citations, and I was unable to find any reliable and independent sources that cover the subject: That's not to say that there aren't any out there (and I would advise you try to find some yourself!) but there's a good chance your subject is not currently notable enough for a Wikipedia article. Let me know if I can help with anything else!! -- Cheers, Alfie. ( Say Hi!) 00:36, 29 January 2018 (UTC) reply

Bosnian

The word "Bosnian" does not denote an ethnic identity. It is a demonym relating to Bosnia-Herzegovina. You may be confusing it with the modern meaning of the word "Bosniak". Either way, removing context from the lead cannot be a compromise since MOS:BIO requires that the subject be identified using "the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident". In the case of Čvorović, that is Bosnia-Herzegovina. A writer from Bosnia-Herzegovina is a Bosnian writer. A politician from Serbia is a Serbian politician (e.g. Rasim Ljajić, Sulejman Ugljanin). Finally, I kindly ask you to take a look at the WP:AGF policy. Referring to guideline-based and well explained edits of experienced users as vandalism is rather uncivil. Surtsicna ( talk) 15:10, 1 June 2018 (UTC) reply

Regarding categorization, please note that Category:Serbian writers, Category:Serbian poets, etc, include people from Serbia regardless of ethnicity, not Serbs regardless of the country of origin. It does not make sense for it to include both non-Serbs from Serbia (e.g. Oskar Davičo, Paulina Lebl-Albala) and Serbs from outside Serbia. Surtsicna ( talk) 15:42, 1 June 2018 (UTC) reply

  • talk MOS:BIO states that context in the lead can be location OR nationality : "The opening paragraph should ... provide context.... Context (location or nationality)". As far as I can understand, location is not specific to a country, so a city or any legal entity can be used, and not necessarily the country.
  • Also she writes in the Serbian language using the Cyrillic script so her ethnicity is relevant to her notability. According to Wikipedia MOS:BIO policy :"Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." So why can't her Serb ethnicity be mentioned in the lead? eg, She is a "Serbian" writer, journalist, etc..."
  • Furthermore, the country of which the person is a citizen does not not seem like an absolute [MOS:BIO]] policy, seeing the word "most" is used: "In MOST modern-day cases this will be the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident"
  • Also, the use of "Bosnian Serb" in the lead seems appropriate seeing as multiple demonyms are possible according to the demonym page : "Conversely, some groups of people may be associated with multiple demonyms. For example, a native of the United Kingdom may be called a British person, a Briton or, informally, a Brit."Seeing as Serbs are one of the three constituent nations so why can't "Bosnian Serb" be used?
  • Moreover, seeing as Serbs in Bosnia do not refer to themselves as "Bosnian", then removing "Bosnian" from the lead, in reference to her nationality, also seems like a good compromise and would reassure ethic Serbs.
  • Assuming bad faith seemed appropriate at the time since almost all mention of her being Serbian kept being removed, including categories. If that was not your intent, then I certainly apologize.
  • I have re-added the Serbian categories seeing as she writes in the Serbian language and refers to herself as Serbian. Furthermore, the Serbian categories do not exclude writers from Republika Srpska. I certainly hope that this issue is now resolved. Abonzz ( talk) 16:18, 1 June 2018 (UTC) reply
Nationality does not translate to националност. It is a false friend. " Nationality is a legal relationship between an individual person and a state." Nationality and ethnicity are different concepts. Čvorović is an ethnic Serb but a national of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Neither Serbian language nor Cyrillic script are exclusive to Serbs. By your argument, everyone's ethnicity would be relevant because everyone speaks a language associated with an ethnic group. That would render MOS:BIO moot, which it obviously is not. Jennifer Lopez sings in Spanish, yet she is defined as an American singer, not a Latino singer. Defining Čvorović as a "Bosnian Serb writer" is a breech of MOS:BIO.
Yes, the country of which the person is a citizen is an absolute must unless you can prove that this one should somehow be an exception. So far your arguments have been based on endorsing a point of view of extreme nationalists and assuming that Čvorović is one of them. That is disappointing, and I hope that I will be proven wrong.
"British", "Brit" and "Briton" all mean the same thing. "Bosnian" and "Bosnian Serb" do not mean the same thing. "Bosnian Serb" is not a demonym for Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is an ethnic label. Much like we do not define Barack Obama as an African American politician, we should not define Čvorović as a Bosnian Serb writer. It is against the guideline.
Your claim that Bosnian Serbs do not refer to themselves as Bosnian is unsubstantiated and, frankly, irrelevant. As I have said already, if Rasim Ljajić is a Serbian politician despite not considering himself a Serb, then surely Čvorović is a Bosnian writer despite not being an ethnic Bosnian. (Very few people are ethnic Bosnians anyway.)
My intent is not to obscure the subject's ethnicity. It is to ensure that proper Wikipedia standard is followed. The article might then qualify for the DYK section of the Main Page. The article should definitely state that the subject is a Serb, but not in the lead because that is against Wikipedia practice and guideline. You should also provide sources for this claim. Surtsicna ( talk) 16:55, 1 June 2018 (UTC) reply
talk I have given reasonable arguments, yet you have referred to me as an "extreme nationalist". This is an insult that goes against Wikipedia policy and any normal decency. I don't think any more dialogue is possible so I will take the next appropriate steps. Abonzz ( talk) 17:04, 1 June 2018 (UTC) reply
No, I did not call you an extreme nationalist. I did not comment on you at all. I understand that English is not your native language, so I will once again assume that this misunderstanding stems from a language barrier. It is unfortunate that you refuse to address any of my points. It is also unfortunate that you blatantly refuse to follow simple guidelines. Surtsicna ( talk) 17:18, 1 June 2018 (UTC) reply

BLP issues

Inaccuracies and unverifiable statements are something Wikipedia can live with, but a breech of WP:BLP of this magnitude is alarming to say the least. Attributing "sexist views" to a living person is a very big deal and requires excellent sourcing. None of the sources you cited there said anything about anyone having any sexist views. Please review the articles you have created for more such extraordinary claims about living people. I am pinging Megalibrarygirl because I have a strong feeling this will be dismissed as an insult to you. Surtsicna ( talk) 01:18, 2 June 2018 (UTC) reply

Megalibrarygirl I have no problem with the article being changed. However, the articles referenced often commented on the 30 year age difference, and also mentioned that women should let their husbands be the boss at home. Here is the excerpt :
  • "Do the women you know are angry when they read your words that a woman should be a woman and nothing else, that she can be a teacher, a judge, a policeman, and everything else, but in nature it is impossible to be the main one in the house?" 1
  • The designer lives currently in Belgrade as stated in the very article quoted by Surtscna 2 so I don't understand why Surtscna removed the text mentioning that the designer later moved to Belgrade, Serbia. This same article even mentions the 30 year age difference in the title, as do other articles referenced.
I summarized those points in the entry to be succinct. If that goes against Wikipedia policy then I was unaware and have no problem with the article being changed. I assumed that Wikipedia editors would review the page anyways and point out any irregularities on the history page. I am learning Wikipedia editing as I go along and appreciate any help along the way. However, I feel like I am being harassed and and stalked by Surtscna as normally these irregularities would only be included on the entry page and not here on my talk page. Also the use of words like "alarming", "breech","extraordinary claims", etc seem more of a personal nature. I would also like to point out that this user seems to more then just concerned about Wikipedia policy, as they keep insulting me with reference to other issues as well. I would appreciate that this user stay off my talk page and let you mediate any issues between us as agreed upon. Abonzz ( talk) 14:05, 2 June 2018 (UTC) reply

Ways to improve Mila Turajlić

Hi, I'm Onel5969. Abonzz, thanks for creating Mila Turajlić!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Very nice contribution on Serbia culture, all your entries... keep up the good work.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Section order

Hi, Abonzz. The background should not be the last section in the body of the article. Most people go to school before starting their careers. All of them are born before starting their careers. See MOS:SECTIONORDER. Surtsicna ( talk) 22:30, 3 August 2018 (UTC) reply

I also kindly ask you, once again, to stop inventing ethnic identites for people. I warned you when you did that at Aleksandra Čvorović and Melina Džinović. Now I see you've done it at Ines Janković as well. If you continue doing this, I will request sanctions. Surtsicna ( talk) 23:54, 3 August 2018 (UTC) reply

  • Firstly I did no such thing. Secondly, I have already asked that you refrain from posting on my page. Your continual harassment, including "warnings", insults, accusatory comments and some sort of personal agenda, are grounds for sanctions which I will request if you continue. Abonzz ( talk) 22:35, 4 August 2018 (UTC) reply
You explicitly stated that Janković and Džinović were ethnic Serbs in edits I reversed here and here. You even gave sources that said no such thing. What is that if not inventing ethnic identities? Now, an administrator has already told you that you were not insulted. Asking you not to violate WP:BLP is not harassment. I will be thrilled if you do not continue with WP:BLP violations, thus sparing me from having to comment here ever again; but if you expect me to turn a blind eye, I am afraid you will be disappointed. Notice

The article Jovan Jelovac has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The subject does not fit WP:NBIO, and most of the content of the article was added by the subject himself, a clear case of WP:COI.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot ( talk) 10:00, 7 April 2024 (UTC) reply

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello, Abonzz. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Bojana Sentaler, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

CASSIOPEIA( talk) 11:11, 28 January 2018 (UTC) reply

Hi Abonzz. As you can see from the section below, I draftified Jelena Behrend to Draft:Jelena Behrend where you can work on it. Sam Sailor 14:47, 13 February 2018 (UTC) reply

Sonia Jam moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Sonia Jam, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. AS a WP:BLP, it needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. ( ?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed ( verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can develop the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and is ready for mainspace, please follow the instructions on the Articles for Creation template on the page. Invitation to participate in study

Hello,

I am E. Whittaker, an intern working with the Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages. Would you be interested in being interviewed? The interviews should take ~1 hour, and will be conducted over BlueJeans (which does allow interviews to be recorded). If, so, please reply to this message or email me at ewhit@umich.edu in order to schedule an interview. .

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Veselin Jevrosimović, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Women in Red 8th Anniversary

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!
