I do not, alas - I plumped for French in school. So if you need help on sub-Saharan Africa...
A Google search for "parroquia" and "Ecuador" pulls up this - would it be useful? As I say, I don't speak the language, I'm afraid.
Why am I not surprised that these Ecuadorian cantons have fired your imagination? :-) -- Ser Amantio di Nicolao Che dicono a Signa? Lo dicono a Signa. 19:33, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Definately. Camilo Ponce Enríquez (municipality) though should be technically called a parish I believe... Hopefully we can find a list of all the parishes of Ecuador and create an article. Some day we will have over 1500 detailed articles (with pictures) of parishes of Ecuador and of all Latin American countries. Now that would be something to work towards! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:50, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I once saw cock fighting on holiday once and I was appalled by it. Interesting culture though, I'm pretty sure many villages in Ecuador have their own customs too which probably won't be even mentioned online for 10 years... Yeah I saw that the parishes contained what looked like a number of villages, comunidades formal then I gather. I found a source for Benin recently which lists all of the village with population data to so once I finish the arrondissements I will develop those. There was not of this data for Benin last year. 2009 was a big year on here. Information which we groaned about in the past is slowly making its way online. Still a long way to go, the Ecuador parishes show this, I mean just look at Gabon, barely anything online at all about places!!! But if you work on one country long enough I always find by the time you come back to somehere else more info has become available. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:05, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
I'd rather we dropped the (parish) in the title to the article anyway. I think the village/town and parish should be one article similar to Municipality and town in Mexico. Transwiki anybody? Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:11, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Check out this. Page under construction. Perhaps soon enough they will provide demo data for places... Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:20, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Awesome, looks very South American, I've sene clips of similar looking things in Bolivia. Talking of weird local things have a look at the yellow car on Cové. How odd!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:35, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I think its some sort of Yoruba custom. It looks like big black men playing around with a little kiddies car!! Also Zangbeto. I just looked on Yoruba wikipedia. Some interesting unsourced stuff on there.. Have you seen the pics of the fetish markets of Lome in Togo? Fascinating stuff, at times rather scary but this is what wikipedia should be about. It gives us an opportunity to start covering parts of the world which were previously ignored but have a rich culture/history. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:45, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Actually I was only just looking at that article last week and thinking what a great job you've done with it. I'd prefer a standard infobox instead of geobox. Also I'd recommend creating a montage of images of Ratanikiri and placing that in the main infobox... Something like File:Chiang Mai City.png but more tidely aligned. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:35, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
WHen we were talking about Yoruba the other night I had a browse on Yoruba wiki. I stubbed Gbedu. Then I requested it be expanded. Now we not only have the article but we have Sakara drum and I've seemingly whetted the author's appetite to add more! Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:50, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Yep, two drum articles out of tens of thousands of missing African articles no doubts. Now if I can find a way to clone these rare African contributors... Oh I was looking on flickr and found 900 free images of Cambodia!!. Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:46, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
I have nominated 1970s in science, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1970s in science. Hello Calliopejen1. I just wanted to know if you were still active in the Fashion Wikiproject. I just witnessed a small bug on the infobox model at (don't click yet) Ksenia Kahnovich. She had her birthday three days ago but when I consulted the page a few minutes ago it was still written "(age 22)" after her d.o.b. (she's supposed to be 23 now). I refreshed the page and now it shows the right "(age 23)" and I can't reproduce the bug. It's probably nothing but I still found it weird that it could show her old age three days after her birthday. Maybe you could access the page to see if you get the same problem? Thanks in advance. Thiste ( talk) 14:01, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Nothing! Oh its nice to have a change. I like both accounts, but I like the theme of this one and I like seeing the name in the history of pages. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 14:31, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
I've finished starting those cantons of Ecuador anyway. I wa thinking the (canton) rather than Canton capitalised naming would probably be better. Perhaps you could offer your view on Rich Farmboroughs talk page. Any chance you could ask the folks at map lab to make an svg map of Nigeria like Template:Location map Guinea? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:24, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I have a bit of cleaning up to do with Nigerian towns. I'm hoping that our drum editor will sometime show an interest in expanding them! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:54, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Wow that's an old one! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:42, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Mmm. I think the surprisingly strong response from the community for the Dawn Padmore article decided it! AFD at times as a peculiar way of improving an article.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:25, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
I agree actually. I couldn't find much on her, just enough perhaps for keeping but it is not exactly an essential article in my book. Care to AFD Joseph Checkler? Non notable blogger. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:31, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
I dunno, I'm also intermediate level Spanish. What about something by Gabriel García Márquez? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:35, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Could you ask this user if we can use her images of the Bsous Museum? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:44, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Some interesting sources at here. Plenty of public domain images of colonial Gabon to upload too! I've made a makeshift grey map for Nigeria, DRC and Gabon anyway until they make the maps, probably will have to wait until 2018. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 02:14, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah the sources he used look like they'd contain a lot of info. He did a great job getting hold of those photos though. Check out my new map on Calabar. Its better but we should still have an svg...03:05, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
I love the Egypt one, check out Esna. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 03:14, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
I was considering putting the Template:Expand up for deletion Its pretty pointless isn't it? I've come across sub stubs from 2006 or 2007 which have been vurtually untouched after having the tag pleastered over it. Is there really any evidence that they work? If somebody wants to improve an articles they'll do so regardless and they can see that many articles need to be expanded. Unlike the expand language templates which directly serve a purpose. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 01:37, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
The more experience I've had in seeing it the less useful I actually think it is. It asks you to expand it in the stub tags anyway... The expand section tag isn't so bad if it points to editors to develop a missing part of the article which is not immediately obvious but the overall "Expand this article" seems to have little effect. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 11:42, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeyeee!! That took a while!!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:27, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
So I see. Once I've finished working on these LGAs and added a few towns with decent svg maps the stubs may start to even remotely resemble other countries on here. Hey I've started a mountains of italy by region template series see Template:Mountains of Liguria. I think I'll copy the articles on Italian wikipedia in the categories and insert them into templates by region to be transwikied. Probably the best thing we can do actually is to go through categories on other wikipedia and red link them in nav templates with the ones we already have. This way even if I haven't the time to start the article somebody at some point or other may want to start it.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:34, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
E.g I could start a Template:Churches in the Province of Salerno etc and red link tons of churches which have articles on Italian wiki... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:36, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Can you believe Category:Museums in Nigeria is empty? There should be 30 odd. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:41, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Phew we now have no stone age pink maps for Nigeria now.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 04:51, 11 February 2010 (UTC) This might sound funny but do you like lime? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:52, 11 February 2010 (UTC) Yeah I love Thai cuisine too. Lime is supposed to be good for a lot of things too. I came across this shampoo earlier which has yoghurt and lime in it , this. The smell of it is amazing!! Its like a honey lemon limey and tropical kind of smell but it leaves your hair feeling like a million bucks! It thickens your hair and gives it more texture but the amazing smell of it last all day! Strongly recommend trying it, I'm in love with the smell!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:53, 11 February 2010 (UTC) Cool. you have a gym to go with the job? I'm impressed. Yes I have hair, unlike Dr. Blofeld LOL. quite a lot compared to some blokes actually, similar sort of hair type and color to this although I have more of a receding hairline. All the blokes on my mums side of the family are Blofeld types but on my dads side they have thick hair! I am at risk apprently of becoming a Blofeld, I heard you inherit the bald gene from your mother's father. Nooooo!!. Yeah I never really give a thought to shampoo, I don't normally care, but once I smelt this shampoo I had to try it, I'm certain you'd love it. And it actually makes your scalp feel better too it kinda has a soothing effect. You should definately try it, I'd imagine they sell it in the US. Pretty cheap too. Its difficult to describe in words, but imagine a rich honey/lemon tropical smell mixed in with fresh cream. Its liquid gold! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:15, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't know anyone who'd be up for this job (I mean all maps). It is my understanding that creating a map or two is not that difficult, but volunteers tend to run out of steam after converting a few maps, which is why we end up with a hodgepodge of maps of all kinds and looks... As for the maps we already have, I don't know how well they would work for other countries, but for Russia we really need one showing internal borders, otherwise the map is not going to be too helpful.— Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • ( yo?); 15:17, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

We better discuss conic location maps here as more users will read it: I don't know anything about programing templates.
Last March I asked
de:User:Visi-on how to transfer it to en:WP, especially
Template:Location map Canada. He told me you better adapt these three templates:
de:Vorlage:Positionskarte,
de:Vorlage:Positionskarte+ and
de:Vorlage:Positionskarte~. Then it should be possible to use conic maps. If you have questions you better ask Visi-on, I'm not able to answer them. As long as this isn't done it's senseless to discuss a better map for Russia.

Hi. I was wondering if you could use the bot to upload these , especially these. I made the agreement with Grete Howard long ago but so far very few of the images have been uploaded except for a few in Benin like Zangbeto and Togo. The bot never works when I try to use it. She has a mass of wonderful images which would greatly help the project don't you think? Its a gold mine!! Check out these of the Peruvian Indians! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:11, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
OK, but if you are so busy please tell me sooner, otherwise I wonder what the matter is! Yes Grete has me as her friend on flickr that's how I have the larger images. But we definately need that tool to upload them as her collection is so impressive of places we have little for on here that it would be a big shame to ignore them. I did recontact her back in late December and asked about her Greenland trip but she didn't reply. I wonder whether she is not happy that she made the agreement after all or just genuinely didn't read the email. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:49, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi Calliopejen1/Archive 8! If there is any consensus at at all, it is that the entire discussion has become a tangled confusion, and as a result both proponents and opponents of the issues under discussion are abandoning ship. None of us want this. Your work on the template is valuable, even though it is stil possible that consensus might not be reached in favour of its use. However, In an attempt to keep the policy discussion on an even track, some users have decided to create a special workshop page for the development of the template at WT:BLP PROD TPL. It is designed keep the quite different major aspects of the BLP issue separate off the policy discussion and talk page, and help to move this whole debate towards a decision some kind or another. The page is well linked in a way that watchers will still find their way to it, the policy comments have been kept intact on the main talk page, and the main contributors to all sides of the the discussion are being informed. Cheers. -- Kudpung ( talk) 22:05, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Heya Calliopejen1, I realize that what Strunk said 50 years ago still carries quite a bit of weight, especially since he said it so well and everyone reads and references his "little book". Be that as it may, there's really nothing wrong with the construct: "Due to the fact". There are quite a few peccadilloes of Strunk's that are in Elements of Style, but not all of them are accepted. I don't blame you for looking to make such edits, but you should at least try to not have that as the primary reason to make the edit. Regards,

For some reason the tagger is inclined to not give it the benefit of doubt and has tagged it was deletion just because the creator no longer has a flickr account. Its not my fault the original uploader has left flickr. So just because somebody leaves flickr and nobody bothered to authorise it in the meantime we must suddenly delete this image from wikipedia rather than give me the benefit of the doubt. Check my Blofeld talk page history of late. I can't express how pissed off I am with people on here at the moment. I was hoping to discuss with you your edit here. You seem to be aware of the subject, but not what an endorsement is? That's why I wikilinked the word, in the off-chance that non-speakers or folk unfamiliar with the inner workings of the music industry (like me) would know what an endorsement deal is. I think its pretty apparent that endorsement = money and swag, in exchange for using/promoting the products of the company offering the endorsement. Looking at at the FA-quality articles of professional sports athletes (like Wayne Gretzky, Yao Ming) and musical artists (like Mariah Carey, Jay Chou and Celine Dion), all mention endorsements without going into explanation as to what sort of endorsement it is. More than the endorsement itself - to my mind - was the fact that it didn't come from a representative of Peavey Amps, but from Mr. and Mrs. Peavey themselves. I think that the statement should remain, though if you think it needs to be said better, I'm willing to help find the right wording. Thoughts? - Jack Sebastian ( talk) 03:48, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Jen, work permitting can you do me a favour. When I wrote the 22 Jermyn Street article I contacted Henry Togna and his press secretary Laura who was more than happy to freely give the images given that the place was being demolished and he wanted to keep the spririt of the hotel alive with having a wikipedia article and photos on it. However Fastily has speedy deleted all of them because they weren't ticketed. They were high quality images of a historical hotel which sadly no longer lists. Henry himself would be upset to see these images deleted from the article. Please can you contact him and sort out OTRS ticketing and get the darned things back onto wikipedia. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:20, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, I almost didn't get into any tiffs. But it aint my fault he threw the AFD my way again. But the guy who renominated the article for AFD within just days is time wasting again when all our time and effort on here is best geared towards developing things... I don't know when they'll get the message. The same thing annoys me with LibStar spending all his time nominating bilateral relation articles and them mostly always being kept. There are way less notable articles on here. Google maps is ually a good way of seeing if a place is substantial, but they choose to nominate small towns rather than the non existent places or single shacks which many similar database articles on the web throw up. Remember those Iran "villages". Those have better validity for nuking.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:37, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm impressed! Most admins wouldn't have a clue how to do that and would just remove the image or something daft, but you managed to restore the old image, move the "pictured" and put the blurb back to how it was before the image was added, and all without screwing up the rest of the template! Hi, I edited the article P. S. Ayyaswamy and added quite a few third party references. If you go to the links provided there, you will find out almost the same things as written in the article. Is it possible to remove the following tags now?: 1."This needs references that appear in reliable third-party publications. Primary sources or sources affiliated with the subject are generally not sufficient for a Wikipedia article. Please add more appropriate citations from reliable sources." 2."This biographical article is written like a résumé. Please help improve it by revising it to be neutral and encyclopedic." Long time no exchange. One of my long-term goals when WP:FASHION was started, getting Anna Wintour to featured status, is at the point of the nomination. I have done everything I wanted to do that was practical to get the article to this point. Thanks for posting the original cover for "Hundred Years of Solitude." Do you have a higher quality image and are you willing to share it? Thanks so much!

Must be. Its completely empty of anything except the title. I clicked the link on spanish wiki and still get the same thing. Got it! Q-Z I think. Well done! Shame though I can't copy and paste the text....
The off putting thing is that is it extremely slow and inefficient not being able to copy and paste and google translate/proof read. I am having to make notes which takes a lot of time. I was wondering if we could work together start a few articles every few days in which I can stub them with the names and dates and profession and you can google translate the text and add it? I've started on page 17 at the start of Q. So far i've done Quepuantú, Vicente Quesada, Pedro Quintavalla, Francisco Quintanilla. I'm likely to give up on it otherwise as it is mind numbingly slow work. Can I stub like 5 at a time and you add to them whenever you have a moment and then start another 5 etc? Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:38, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
What A-P? The best thing I think would be to make a list in either my or your workspace of all of the biographies in it. Then we can see the scope of it and start building it piece by piece. Its gonna take a lot of work and there will be some days when we don't feel like it but if we could process 5 articles in a few days to a week dependon on our mood this would be great. Its a highly valuable source not only is it counteracting systematic bias in the part of the world it is but also that it is a detailed account of the 19th century in Chile. Congratulations for finding it!! This was exactly what I was tlaking about.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:08, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Tom Ford Beauty, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{
hangon}}
to the top of
the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on
the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact
one of these admins to request that they
userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. --

Thanks but I am well aware of the articles needing translation from Hungarian. The problem is most of them are geo stubs, so one can't see the meat for the potatoes. Instead, I find it more useful almost to translate on demand, since then I know there is at least one interested reader.
I've done some work on the geo stubs, particularly with {{
Infobox Hungarian settlement}}
which makes them a bit easier and through the good work of another editor, all the coats of arms are now in a standard filename format at Wikimedia Commons, so they can be transcluded really easily. Similarly it's easier (not perfect because of the limitations of Wikimedia software, but easier) to transclude data from the
Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) with {{
ksh url}}
and its brethren. So I've not been idle there, but frankly it is rather boring to translate 2,000 or so articles about Hungarian villages. You might also see that when I and my missus
User:Monkap have put them into Hungarian Wikipédia with more information, it has been removed as being too much information. So we kinda gave up frankly.

Hi Jen. I've discovered a gold mine for Latvian politicians at here. The flickr user is Saeima (which is the national parliament of Lativa) and has the official national parliament coat of arms. Given the extent of the photos 2300 odd including valuable ones of sessions like this etc I'd say it is definately a photographer insider of the Saeima. I wondered if you could use a bot to upload all of the photos of the politicians to the commons unless there is some problem. Photos like this are very hard to get hold of; its obvious to me that the person who uploaded them to flickr is the photographer so has the right to release the images under this license. I hope you'll respond. I've uploaded one, and started the article, Inese Šlesere,. It was because she was so striking looking that I stumbled upon it.. I tell you what though Solvita Āboltiņa who seems to be the most photograph by the Saeima looks extremely hard. You wouldn't mess with her, she looks like a villainess from a Bond movie or something.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:03, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

I've begun a big translation of Montevideo the capital city of Uruguay at Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay/Montevideo. Can you help me translate it? It may take a week to fully translate or longer and fully write. It doesn't need to be done immediately and can be gradual... Once the translation is done it can further be expanded, there must be a wealth of sources on it. But if you look at the current state of it the only decent part of it is the history and even that needs improving. And it a major South American capital city.... I'd be very grateful if you could help out. I'll also invite a few more Spanish translators to help so between us we ought to be able to accomplish it..♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:40, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Honestly, you were extremely unfair and unjust in your decision. I explained it all in my Unblock request, the reasons. I'm not going to come here cursing you out, even though I'd love to, but what you did was completely uncalled for. You didn't even check back for me even after leaving a notice saying you would remove it if I understood. A week is ridiculous, its for a mass vandal. Hi. Well I logged in yesterday with a rotten headache and encountered a series of very surprising negative messaages at once. The two seemd to be ganging up over me on the lhasa article and reduced it to nothing. I agree that it needed condensing which I've now done to an extent but to rant on at me DO NOT write articles when he had barely 9 edits to his name really got to me. I'm sure if you've been in traffic and somebody pulled out on the side walk or acts like a jackass on the road you've said similar things or at least thought them. Before you know ANI is involved and eventually I'm blocked at a point in the day when I had actually calmed down and was getting on with writing an article. I had calmed down in the afterrnoon too until His HIghness Sarek of Vulcan pointed his finger and got me annoyed again. If I was still blocked today the retired notice would be back up as I believe i was wrongly blocked especially after I apologised and tried to work constructively with them. In future it is probably best if I stick to the saying "If you haven't got anything good to say don't say anything at all" as on wiki the expectaitons of 100% civility are a bit steep and the least little comment gets blown up into some horrendous. Yes those African nations will be covered on my list. Feel free to list two articles for any country you want which you really think should be expanded or started. Be my guest and well get around to it as we go through. No biographies though, Nvvchar is not keen on those. As long as there are plenty of sources and pitures if possible... Actually i had a Pineapple production in Guinea planned and added some links in User:Dr. Blofeld/Launch Pad 1 as a follow up to my Pomegranate production in Afghanistan article..♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:22, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Jen,
In Nathan's recent block, you accuse him of lying... There seems no proof on that, and no block log that shows a pattern (zero blocks for copyvio) and a comment by an author who has had contentious/tenditious issues in the past making clams he also did not substantiate (and that the block logs dont either).
I'm suggesting, since there is no such proof, that perhaps better choice of wording could have been used, such as "misrepresenting copyright status/ownership status/etc" as opposed to making a claim of lying when one has not or cannot prove such - especially when one of the tagged files is on the guess that "(you) doubt it's any different."
So... I was simply suggesting a change in the block rationale since nothing is supportive of being proof Nathan lied. If he claims it was a mistake, then it's a double claim he's lying - once when he did the upload, and again when he claims the attribution was an accident - which is still unsupportable. Better wording in the block indicates the same or similar reasons, without making an unsupportable claim.
Of course if there is some other log to show this is a blatant repeat situation, that's different... but I cannot find them - all I find is an editor at odds with Nathan making such claims without providing any such proof, and your block supporting such as lying.
Now... as to whether the block is supported or not... I dunno. I wont speculate, as I am not privvy to what the original upload rationale is, or whether there are similar images that have been previously deleted for similar reasons. So again, I wont weigh in on those.
Keep in mind, this is all irrelevant if you are privy to other logs and image deletions (that I am not) that show pattern of such to support your wording. In which case, my apologies... but all I have to go by is what's publicly viewable.
Best, Robert

Hello. Your recent edits to this article have gone a bit too far, in my opinion. In your attempt to consolidate the article, you've ended up created misinformation:
"The song was ineligible for inclusion on the Billboard Hot 100 during its original release, because it was not released commercially as a single. When this rule lapsed in January 2000, however, the song charted on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 83."
This recent edit by you makes it appear that the Billboard Hot 100 chart rule lapsed in January 2000 (which is when the song peaked at #83). But that wasn't the case. In fact, the chart rule the had allowed only commercially-available singles to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 chart was changed for the first time on the chart dated the week ending December 5, 1998 (a full year and one month before the song peaked at #83 on the Hot 100). Please change it back before someone else does. -- Sliv812 ( talk) 19:50, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I saw you edited this CCI which has been stalled for a while. Just as a heads up, one of the reasons I haven't worked on it recently is because quite a few of the remaining articles cite "M. Blaug (ed.) - Who's who in economics (3d edition), 1999" which I don't have a copy of (and haven't gotten around to checking for at the library). It's also only available in snippet view via Google Books and the text isn't the same as the 4th edition which actually provides a preview. I don't know how often he followed that source closely, but I think I found at least one copyvio from it just using the snippets, so it's something to watch out for. :/ VernoWhitney ( talk) 18:08, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

(hotung OR "ho tung") AND ("john garner" OR "jn garner" OR "j n garner" OR "nance garner")
and didn't come up with anything. Considering that the photo is of an American and someone from Hong Kong in Hong Kong, now being published in a Hong Kong paper, I would assume that {{
PD-US}} and {{
PD-HK}} are the two ways this would be in the public domain. (To find those, I just poked around licensing templates looking for the appropriate ones.) The normal PD-US route is for things published pre-1923, so that isn't going to apply. I think there is at least a good argument for PD-HK. The paper is claiming that it is its own image, which is not always authoritative (a lot of image agencies just slap their names on images they didn't take), but here it's plausible. The only issue is whether we can say the work has unknown authorship. Considering the paper itself did not identify the author, I think that would be sufficient. So then the image would enter the public domain 50 years after then end of 1935, the year it was created. So the work passed into the public domain in Hong Kong in 1985, which would mean that it is also PD in the US based on the URAA agreements (it needed to be PD in HK before 1996 for this to apply). So... that's the long answer for you! I'd tag the image {{
PD-HK}}.

Bottom line: You and your peers and seniors are in the process of creating "the new academe", and if the scholarly and ethical aspects of this are not wrangled, it is not only not worth a scholar's time, it is actually something to consider "opposing" (i.e., through devotion of time elsewhere).
So, thank you again for welcome; please, let's discern if/how we can engage, to ensure my continued devotion of time to writing/editing. Prof D.

... cleaning up files. That is so good to see. :-)
If you can find the time perhaps we could combine our efford to cleanup? I move files to Commons and you get a lot of "bad files" deleted. So my idea is that we take files in Category:User-created public domain images from old to new and empty the categories one by one. It is much easier for me to move files to Commons once someone has checked that the files are not copyvios or "junk". So if you have checked a category (or a part of it) I could use my bot to move all good files Commons.
You do not need to mark ok files - I'll move everything that is not nominated for deletion. Unless I think the file should not be moved.
A few weeks after we can return and see what is left in the category.
You do not have to say yes. It was just a suggestion. -- MGA73 ( talk) 16:35, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the suggestion of an image for Adela Maddison, I'm not sure about the copyright situation though (I'm not very expert on this topic). Its the front cover of a 1910 magazine, so I take it that there's no copyright problem with google books or the author of the 2004 book in which the image appears, but what about the lifetime+70 years rule for UK images? (The 2004 book gives photo credit to an E.Schneider but this may well be just for the photo of the magazine cover). In any case I don't know whether the original creator of the magazine cover was dead by 1940. -- Aegoceras ( talk) 18:51, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
I notice that the File:Roclincourt Town Hall.JPG. was nominate for Deletion by you, and was subsequently deleted. I do not understand your reason for this action. This was a photograph taken by me and I have never heard of your explanation for the deletion. As far as I know this photograph which was created by me, with no commercial motive, will not qualify for copyright infringement you are saying that this violates. If as you say it dose infringe then most of the French photographs on Wikipedia and on commons need to be deleted. Please explain yourself. stavros1 ♣ 13:08, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
There are a couple of book covers in use in the Paul-Gordon Chandler article. The article was created by an editor who I suspect is connected to the subject, and the images were also placed on en.wp by same connected party. BTW, the subject also had a hand in writing the article. There lacks any critical commentary to my eyes which would allow book covers to be included under 'Fair Use' criteria. Any thoughts, please? -- Ohconfucius ¡digame! 04:24, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Armstrongscat.ogg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Hi. Please make sure when deleting NowCommons images with a different name on commons, that you delink the images already on en.wp, or it leaves redlinks. If you want a bot to do it for you (i.e., OgreBot), you can just use the nowcommonsreview script to mark the image "OK", and I will come along later and finish it for you. Also, ideally, it's best to move over all of the old versions of the file; this can be time consuming, so I'm currently using a bot to do this as well (I'm reasonably close to the point of putting up a public interface as well). Thanks, the notice about translation has bugged me for a while, but I didn't think it my place to remove it. The Portuguese was originally translated from English and improved, then the French from the Portuguese. Before nominating for GA, I made incorporated all extra info in both languages to the English (while re-verifying all the links and working from the sources), at which point (IMHO, and of course I am not prejudiced) it was better than either of the other articles. There have been quite a few improvements since then as well, mostly by others. Donlammers ( talk) 18:14, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
The biggest thing we need is a bot to draw up a directory of missing articles. Then we need some sort of actual organization to create them. Sadly the vast majority, myself included tend to work loosely and across a wide range of topics and rarely have time to focus purely on one task. I genuinely believed Fritz would complete the list like he did with ALbania so the pages would still be needed. We need to somehow inject more importance into transwiki again and at least get a bot to complete Fritz's directory. If you consider we are missing over 5 million articles which do not have an article on en wiki how many articles get translated everyday? You'd be lucky to count 5 in a 24 hour period on new pages. If we can't get a bot to actually start articles translating we should try to at least see about one which pastes the articles and a google tranlsated verison in the wiki space for editors to rpoof read and start. But then it comes down to numbers who would actually bother o start them, again fewer than 5. The best thing is seems then would be a bot which actually translates articles into english and starts them but places a cleanup maybe needed tag at the top. But given how many articles current;y needing cleanuo, I can't see such a bot being approved..♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:46, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Nono, humans and masses of them, translators in all languages are of course by far the most important, you misunderstand me. I mean the biggest thing we need initially is a bot to draw up a full directory of missing articles and then of course the bigger thing would be the numbers to translate them.. The most important? For every article currently tagged to be fully translated asap of course.. I was talking about scaling the project and it reaching a full scope♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:57, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
The biggest factor on any subject or language translation is generating interest. if people are not interested in the subject matter than they are unlikely to even remotely be interested. Then you ask the question, who is most likely to be interested in writing articles about German and Austrian municipalities, Spanish municipalities and churches etc. And it always comes down to local people or at lease native speakers who are familiar with their part of the world and want to see it better covered on wikipedia. Then you ask, where are all these people? They are editing German and Spanish wikipedia or are unaware of what wikipedia actually needs even if they casually use it every now and again in RL. If we are to be serious about attracting individuals on the scale we need then we would need to create a list of translation schools in countries such as Spain and Germany or in the US and UK and systematically send out emails to them inviting them to join wikipedia and use translating articles of their choice from other languages into english. It could work, but this is the only way we could achieve anything major with Intertranswiki. The current log shows we are way off having the numbers needed or willing to translate those articles currently neding translation on here let alone the remaining 5 million odd!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:15, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
I want a list of every populated settlement recorded by geonames by country, a full A-Z list of settlements by country starting with Afghanistan through to Zimbabwe created in list format like List of United Kingdom locations: Aa-Ak with the name, state, coordinates, preferably DMS and then the final column, instead of OS grid, left blank for potential notes. ALl I require is for somebody to download the database by country and to simply program into a table and publish. Basically as you said. It of course would need to be split like the UK has, but I think the biggest thing we can do on here in terms of infrastructure is to have some recognition of every populated places and coordinates. Then those which have enough info can be started in their own right and it can be built gradually. Can you program something semi-automated or something to do this? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:47, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah exactly like that, but I'm looking for every populated place in a country to be listed just for comprhension sake. Geonames regularly updates I've noticed to some which may no longer exist it gradually gets round to correcting them. The idea is that every settlement that appears on a google map anywhere in the world, and even those not listed on them but can be seen are listed. If we have a full database this would be a massive aid as the entire possible scope is there and can be built piece by piece... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:23, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
I've started Template:World populated places. If you are happy going for over 1000 I'm OK with that but I think in the long term it truly would be best to list all. As for many countries I could easily write a full article on a village with 400 people.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:40, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
OK, look forward to seeing it. The reason I created one template rather than the usual continent templates it because I literally want to be able to find any settlement in the world directly from one nav box. I've shrunk it down anyway to collapsed. Recognising the places that exist and their coordinates is definitely a start anyway. Over time I hope it becomes very productive. I'm sure thousands of people would find it useful having a full gazeteer type lists anyway. You might though want to give the date of the census... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:26, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
No worries, that could probably be found out by some detective work anyway comparing with government stats.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:47, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Mmm that's not good. The thing is we already have Lists of cities which are really for settlements above 1000 people... Mmm. I think a solution would be yes to create a full list but to name the articles List of places in and in the intro mention that some sites like that may be thrown in. I would say the vast majority actually are settlements though right?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:57, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Thing is in countries like Lithuania the vast majority of settlements have population below 1000, most below 100 actually. My feeling is that it would be best to create a [[List of places in xxx and trust that over time any obvious errors can be removed. I believe that the vast majority will be legitimate settlements. I think its worth doing. Of course eventually we want half decent articles on as many places as possible but I really think the first them is to acknowledge their existance. Of course after creating each list one could look through the archeaology cats and remove any that get mixed of course. As long as the list doesn;t include things like bus stops and farm barns!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:07, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah but what would you say the accuracy rate is looking through it? If like 99% of the entries are legitimate I think its worth having 1% which may not be..♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:33, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah best thing would be to create them by letter e.g List of populated places in Peru - A. BTW does locality refer to region, province, district or municipality?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:07, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
If every village looked like Acain we should do it but I agree with you some of them are dubious. We should stick to solid settlements for now. The only way possible to extract the good from the bad is to go through them all like this but neither of us have the time for this. So I say go ahead but maybe lower it to villages with over 500? As long as the lists are more comprehensive that the "List of cities". ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:57, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
You are wrong about Acacoto look on google earth. Its a major village in a valley. The coordinates were slightly too northwest though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:02, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
OK but I doubt that the 1000 limit applies to every country. Best thing would be to assess each country first and what has data and then create, Where possible try to include verifiable smaller settlements. Maybe try Ecuador next. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:21, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Are you still up for creating the lists then?♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:40, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
To be honest I agree with you. Its fine for coordinates but nothing beats up to date reliable government sources when it comes to creating a gazeteer. But it just frustrates me how much is missing and being ignored at present. I think a truly comprehensive source would have a gazeteer of every settlement by country. Tanzania has government data available I think. Maybe such a list could be created bit by bit using government sites? Offhand I know there is an up to date UN source listing all Afghan settlements and their district. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:50, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Jen. Again regarding that photograph. The author allows me to use it, however claims he does not know or isn't able to change the license. What can I do :( Can I give you my Flickr account password so you can review my conversation with him as proof that he gives permission? I mean its readily verifiable to anyone who questions it. Its the only thing I can think of. He even gave me a name to put as an author :( Thanks!-- CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 04:01, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Dear Sallam, I am a volunteer administrator of Wikipedia (wikipedia.org), the free open-content encyclopedia. I have enjoyed browsing your excellent photographs of recent protests in Yemen. I am writing to see if you would consider freely licensing your images, so that they can be used to illustrate Wikipedia articles (such as en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Yemeni_protests), and so that images of Yemeni protesters can be spread even more widely. Wikipedia can only use your photos if you are willing to grant permission for them to be used a free license. You can do this by using Flickr options to change the photo's licensing to Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike - click "edit" next to "All Rights Reserved" on the photo page. (Note that Wikipedia cannot accept "No Derivatives" or "Non-Commercial" licenses.) This means that although you retain the copyright and authorship of your own work, you are granting permission for others to use, copy, and share your materials freely, and even potentially use them commercially, so long as they do not try to claim the copyright themselves, or try to prevent others from using or copying them freely ( "share-alike"). You can read this license in full at creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ . Please do note that your contributions may not remain intact as submitted; this license, as well as the collaborative nature of our project, also entitles others to edit, alter, and update them at will, i.e., to keep up with new information, or suit the image to a different purpose. If you do agree to grant permission for use, we will credit you on the Wikipedia image page, state that the image is your work and is used with your permission, and provide a link back to your flickr page. I hope you will consider accepting our request. |

Please place them at CFD instead.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:32, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Well the system with Plastiksork and that is to place at CFD, convert to wrapper then use Sporkbot to convert to standard at a later date. I've successfully nominated tens and tens of templates in this way in a step by step process.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:40, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah but are you actually changing the coding of the template itself to act as a wrapper? To me it looks as if you've just placed a noticed in the template talk pages and are not actually converting them to a wrapper.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:44, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah. OK that'scool. BTW thereis an argument over actresses vs female actor at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers. Some female input on this would be appreciated. It started as a proposal to split Category Actors by gender like singers but it has been highlighted that "actress2 is apparently no longer accpetable. Your thoughts either way are appreciated.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:54, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Infobox Town AT and Infbox German location and Infobox Swiss municipality wer etop on my list for deleting. The first two especially are written in German which is not good enough in articles.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:07, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

I've finished starting those cantons of Ecuador anyway. I wa thinking the (canton) rather than Canton capitalised naming would probably be better.

I made the agreement with Grete Howard long ago but so far very few of the images have been uploaded except for a few in Benin like Zangbeto and Togo. The bot never works when I try to use it.

There just seems to be distinct lack of respect and humanity shared between editors on here. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:25, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Please move Livadia (yacht) back. If any of the two deserves the top slot (without year) it's the 1873 ship - it's the one mentioned in all the ambassador's memos and memoirs of the period. East of Borschov ( talk) 20:05, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Please help improve it by revising it to be neutral and encyclopedic." I have done everything I wanted to do that was practical to get the article to this point. [2] I think if one takes the number of positive reviews found for his decades of stage work, adds the rather in-depth article from Roscommon Herald, [3] mixes in the various awards, and then tops it off with significant roles in film and television, we move from tentative to keep. More to do... more to do. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 07:42, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

How do we get hold of the text though? Eventually it would be nice to see them copied into wik source in spanish, put into english and then used for wikipedia!! Its says "No preview available" on my computer"... Can you provide me a direct link to a page inside one of the books? Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:12, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Must be. Its completely empty of anything except the title. I clicked the link on spanish wiki and still get the same thing. I havewondered in the past actually because a lot of books I've served for in the Americas just have the brown cover and are completely useless. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:35, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Would you be interested in helping me find somebody (who like you is able to access it) to download the books to wikisource using a bot? If we could get the Spanish text inserted into wikisource at leastit would be accesibable. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:38, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Nup just tried it. I click the small marker next to the list of volumes and nothing happens...Grr same situation of the foreigners book. "No preview available". Its so odd that you can access it and I can't. Maybe they think nobody in the UK wants to learn about historical Chile... Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:45, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah I think you're right, which sadly eliminates thousands of potential sources for various articles I can access.. I don't blame google for being paranoid about it, they've had a lot of fuss over copyright. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:11, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{
hangon}}
to the top of
the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on
the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay.

I've done some work on the geo stubs, particularly with {{
Infobox Hungarian settlement}}
which makes them a bit easier and through the good work of another editor, all the coats of arms are now in a standard filename format at Wikimedia Commons, so they can be transcluded really easily. Similarly it's easier (not perfect because of the limitations of Wikimedia software, but easier) to transclude data from the
Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) with {{
ksh url}}
and its brethren.

Wikipedia cannot accept images taken from elsewhere on the internet, because this is a copyright violation. (There are some exceptions for images that are freely licensed, but the VAST MAJORITY of images elsewhere are NOT USABLE.) I have deleted all of your image contributions because they all appeared to be uploaded in violation of copyright. This is a very serious matter. If you continue to upload copyrighted images, your account will be blocked. Thank you for your cooperation. Calliopejen1 ( talk) 23:18, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

None of images which you have deleted from my uploaded group, are neither copied nor violating any copyright policies. I am surprised note the deletion. Can you kindly make me aware about: where from these have been copied?? If you prove that they were copied, you are welcome to delete. Otherwise, please restore those. Thanks.--

And a politician too, how unusual for a politician to look that good!!.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:11, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Is anybody actually likely to upload them in the near future though? I might ask a few people just to raise some interest.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:28, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Oo OK. I've also asked a few you I have been in contact with previously on the commons. Somebody will do it, I'm sure. I listed the Deputies of the 9th Saeima previously but only had a chance ot start a few..

Hi Jen,
In Nathan's recent block, you accuse him of lying...

As you've probably seen, I've closed many of your discussuions over at FFD, mostly ending in delete. I have a request for you, though: when you do the "also nominating" part and add additional files to the nomination, could you please use {{subst:ffd2a|File_name.ext|Uploader= }} when you add those additional files? That helps save the reviewing admin time because that template includes a delete button right on the page. Thanks! SchuminWeb ( Talk) 03:46, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Could you please tell me the best way to go about determining the copyright status of an image? Specifically, I am interested in the image in a news article, the screen shot of which is here. It is an article from today's South China Morning Post, the image was shot in 1935, the journal claims it is the source. I have no idea if it has been previously published. Cheers, -- Ohconfucius ¡digame! 03:09, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
(hotung OR "ho tung") AND ("john garner" OR "jn garner" OR "j n garner" OR "nance garner")
and didn't come up with anything. Considering that the photo is of an American and someone from Hong Kong in Hong Kong, now being published in a Hong Kong paper, I would assume that {{
PD-US}} and {{
PD-HK}} are the two ways this would be in the public domain. (To find those, I just poked around licensing templates looking for the appropriate ones.) The normal PD-US route is for things published pre-1923, so that isn't going to apply. I think there is at least a good argument for PD-HK. The paper is claiming that it is its own image, which is not always authoritative (a lot of image agencies just slap their names on images they didn't take), but here it's plausible. The only issue is whether we can say the work has unknown authorship. Considering the paper itself did not identify the author, I think that would be sufficient. So then the image would enter the public domain 50 years after then end of 1935, the year it was created. So the work passed into the public domain in Hong Kong in 1985, which would mean that it is also PD in the US based on the URAA agreements (it needed to be PD in HK before 1996 for this to apply). So... that's the long answer for you! I'd tag the image {{
PD-HK}}.

Caliopejen1, thank you for welcome. I assume you contacted me in response to my message to Mr Wales. If I cannot know that my time is well spent and that my general concerns are a part of a broader, higher level, useful discussion within your organization, then it is unlikely worth my time to continue contributing.
For the truly general nature of my concerns, see for instance: << en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Polyphenol#General_comment_and_readings_regarding_quality_of_citations >>.

![]() | On 13 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Jean-Baptiste Perrier, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Goman was an ex-slave leader who led a peasant revolt in Southern Grand'Anse, Haiti between 1807 and 1820? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page ( here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

With pleasure. I'm not sure quite when I'll be able to get to it, but with luck I can make a start on it tonight. Tomorrow's more likely, though. -- Ser Amantio di Nicolao Che dicono a Signa? Lo dicono a Signa. 13:31, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Howdy. Have a customer, were you ever able to address this? Best, NonvocalScream ( talk) 02:19, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
The uploader is on a wikibreak can you hold off on this for a bit? -- TimL ( talk) 23:28, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
