Vachsky District ( Russian: Ва́чский райо́н) is an administrative district ( raion), one of the forty in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia. [1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Vachsky Municipal District. [4] It is located in the southwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 979.5 square kilometers (378.2 sq mi). [1] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Vacha. [1] Population: 19,979 ( 2010 Census); [2] 23,349 ( 2002 Census); [6] 29,198 ( 1989 Soviet census). [7] The population of Vacha accounts for 30.0% of the district's total population. [2]
