Tonshayevsky District ( Russian: Тонша́евский райо́н) is an administrative district ( raion), one of the forty in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia. [1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Tonshayevsky Municipal District. [4] It is located in the northeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,353.1 square kilometers (908.5 sq mi). [1] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Tonshayevo. [1] Population: 20,219 ( 2010 Census); [2] 20,038 ( 2002 Census); [6] 19,588 ( 1989 Soviet census). [7] The population of Tonshayevo accounts for 22.6% of the district's total population. [2]
