Sechenovsky District ( Russian: Се́ченовский райо́н) is an administrative district ( raion), one of the forty in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia. [1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Sechenovsky Municipal District. [3] It is located in the southeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 991 square kilometers (383 sq mi). [1] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Sechenovo. [1] Population: 15,446 ( 2010 Census); [2] 17,741 ( 2002 Census); [5] 19,338 ( 1989 Soviet census). [6] The population of Sechenovo accounts for 34.1% of the district's total population. [2]
The district was established in 1929 and renamed in 1944 [1] after physiologist Ivan Sechenov.
