Re Doss, Tx

Hi Maile66, thank you for your message. My main concern with the article, was the abundance of inline external links with no labels. I do see however, that the links have been labelled, and have removed the cleanup template without further question... along with two telephone numbers (which should never exist in a Wikipedia article). Thank you kindly for your cooperation. Happy editing! :) -- WikHead ( talk) 23:07, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

March 2010

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Doss, Texas: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. — DoRD ( talk) 16:48, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Texas County histories

FYI: I responded to your query. -- Mcorazao ( talk) 21:45, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

FYI: county histories

FYI: Regarding your research on the county histories, you might be interested to look at History of the Galveston Bay Area regarding the histories of Harris, Galveston, and Chambers Counties. These counties were obviously extremely important to Texas' early history and I uncovered a lot of interesting tidbits that are not discussed in most histories of the Galveston Bay region. This article is well-referenced so it should be easy to pull out citations for the statements.

History of Texas sidebar

Please refer to my user page. This sidebar was on the History of Texas Wiki page. Do you think anyone would mind if I borrowed it for counties? It's perfect for background history info. Maile66 (talk) 20:03, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Not sure what you're asking. Are you asking if it is appropriate to create a new infobox for Texas counties based on this one? Or what? -- Mcorazao ( talk) 21:49, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant to put it, as is, on any county page I work on. No changes to it. It is so perfect as is. If that's on the county page, then all I really have to do is write county history and let that existing sidebar be a reference link for Texas history. I was just unsure about usage of something someone else has created. Maile66 ( talk) 22:15, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Well, in general for county articles, the {{Infobox U.S. County}} template is the right one to use. If you want to create an article specifically dedicated to the history of a particular county then the {{History of Texas}} infobox is a little more appropriate although, in general, we have been reserving this infobox for history topics that deal with the entire state, not simply entities within the state. There is another template {{Texas History Navbox}} that is appropriate to put at the bottom of all Texas history-related articles. If you look at History of Dallas, for example you'll see that it uses the Texas History Navbox and uses a Dallas-specific infobox. -- Mcorazao ( talk) 22:37, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for additional direction. Specifically, I'm only adding history sections to Texas county pages that already exist. I'm not doing separate history pages for any county. Within that context, do you feel it would be OK to add the template {{Texas History Navbox}} at the bottom of each page? I would be happy with that, because it works just as well. Maile66 ( talk) 22:52, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

In general infoboxes and navboxes should apply to the whole article, not just one section. The idea of those boxes is supposed to be connect the main articles related to a particular subject (e.g. history of Texas), not every article that has some part of Texas history in it.
If you are really interested in tying together the histories of the counties perhaps you should consider creating an article like History of Texas counties. That one would certainly be appropriate for including {{History of Texas}} and {{Texas History Navbox}}. Indeed we could add that as a major topic on the navbox. And you could obviously link to all of the county articles you are working on. -- Mcorazao ( talk) 02:26, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

FYI: History articles

Since you obviously have an interest in history I thought I'd mention that I have started working on articles for cattle, cotton, and oil history in my sandbox along the lines of what I proposed as a long-term strategy for the Texas history infobox and navbox (I already put out an article on the forests/lumber industry). Can't promise when I'll get around to finishing any of them. If you have any interest in taking one of them on let me know and you can take what I've done as a starting point.

Feedback archived

Hi there.

A while ago, you requested feedback in WP:FEED. Because it has been a while, and you'd received at least some response there, I have now archived the replies in Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/Archive/26. Please do not edit that page though; if you require further feedback, add a new request on WP:FEED.

I am trying to clear the backlogs; it would help us a lot if you could look at the requests from other users on WP:FEED and add any comments to help them out. Anyone can respond there, so please do take a look, and comment on the articles from other people.

If you want help with anything at all, you could either;

  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.

The last of those is particularly useful - please try it; pop in now and say hello. Best,  Chzz   ►  04:05, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Re: Cleanups

Hey. The image placeholders have actually been discontinued per a discussion a couple years back, and as a result shouldn't be placed on articles. It's hard to enforce since there were a lot to begin with, but gradually they're being removed. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 20:13, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Rollback

I've granted you rollback rights. This lets you undo multiple edits by the same editor in one step. It will revert the most recent edits by the last editor. For example, if user A makes an edit that is vandalism, then user B makes a good edit, and user A makes 2 more vandalism edits, rollback would remove the two most recent edits of A, but not A's first edit. Please be careful to just use rollback for vandalism purposes. The link is pretty easy to click by mistake! Let me know if you have any questions. Karanacs ( talk) 16:41, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Deletion nomination of Talk:Adina Emilia De Zavala

blanked page

Hi Maile66, this is a message from an automated bot, regarding Talk:Adina Emilia De Zavala. You blanked the page and, since you are its sole author, FrescoBot has interpreted it as a request for deletion of the page and asked administrators to satisfy the requests per speedy deletion criterion G7. Next time you want a page that you've created deleted, you can explicitly request the deletion by inserting the text {{ db-author}}. If you didn't want the page deleted, please remove the {{ db-author}} tag from the page and undo your blanking or put some content in the page. Admins are able to recover deleted pages. Please do not contact the bot operator for issues not related with bot's behaviour. To opt out of these bot messages, add {{ bots|deny=FrescoBot}} somewhere on your talk page. -- FrescoBot ( msg) 23:08, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Aloha. Thanks for your good work on Poncie Ponce. Unfortunately, we have a problem with the sources per WP:RS. I would like to discuss this with you before I bring this to the attention of the reliable source noticeboard. Thanks. Viriditas ( talk) 03:04, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

I think you're reading too much into the above, and since this is text not speech, it's best to take things at face value, so no need for any "excuse me". I want to discuss the use of reliable sources with you, and how we can improve the sourcing in the articles you created. Since we are now discussing this on two different pages, I'm going to use the article talk pages and contact you at that time. Viriditas ( talk) 19:08, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Article assessment

I've assessed many of your articles as "Start" class, however, I would like to go over each one with you so we can get them to at least C and B class. Let me know if you have the time. Viriditas ( talk) 03:50, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Your interest?

Is your interest regarding Hawaii mostly concerned with music? Can you talk a bit about it? Viriditas ( talk) 04:01, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Living people and tags

I copied the bio tag over from another article you wrote, which must have had the living person flagged, so sorry about that. I'm not aware of adding any maintenance tags, so I'm not clear what your message was referring to on my talk page. Could you explain? Viriditas ( talk) 19:13, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

I was not referring to your tags, if you have any out there. I was just venting about tags in general. In the long run, they don't serve much purpose. Maile66 ( talk)
No worries, but you had me confused. My questions for you boil down to two things: 1) improvng the assesment rating of your articles by improving the sources, and 2) understanding what your interest in Hawaii is here. If it's Hawaiian music and musicians, I would like to know if you could help me organize and maintain that side of the project, as I have some ideas for improving it and handing it off to someone who feels they are an expert in that area. Viriditas ( talk) 19:26, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
Got it.
1) I am no expert on Hawaiian music, so I wouldn't be the kind of help you need.
2) I welcome whatever suggestions you can offer for improving the assessment rating of articles. However, I was being candid in that I have exhausted every avenue available to me for sources. Finding information on the subjects I picked has been difficult.
-- Maile66 ( talk) 19:37, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I just left you the first message on Talk:Poncie Ponce. I can help you fix these articles and improve their ratings. Viriditas ( talk) 19:47, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Jack Lord

How funny. I know exactly of whom you speak - User:Jack Merridew, am I right? He can be something else. He's the only person I've ever seen who brags about having been blocked previously as a sock puppet. And I apologize, he wikistalks me and he followed me to the page. I've complained about it in the past but he persists. One of the things he does at the moment is ignore adding the template because he detests the color, although by not inserting it and making a few edits, he circumvents the consensus to use that template. I would still use the template I mentioned: {{ Filmography table begin|Year|Film|Role|Notes}}, put the episodes in the notes column and separate the filmography into two tables - television and films, and lose the TV/Cinema column altogether. Yes, I would support moving the tables to a separate page, but as two separate ones. If you need to, use the email link on my talk page to send any questions. Wildhartlivie ( talk) 16:11, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Maile66. Ya, I'm the editor who cleaned-up the formatting of the filmography. You should know that there's considerable dispute over the proper formatting of filmographies. The nutshell is that hard-coded markup is usually inappropriate, that reducing font-sizes is an inappropriate impediment to accessibility, that the use of colour is unwarranted (there's an incipient RfC in the works about that), and that sortability is a useful feature and that the use of rowspan is an impediment to editing by most users. I was also interested in your use of "collapsible". nb: *I* wrote the core of {{ Filmography table begin}}, as an example; its only purpose is to encapsulate the use of a gratuitous colour. I'd be glad to fill you in on the whole picture; something I'm not seeing happening, at the moment.

I see you've noticed aspects of my long history on this site, which you can also get details on by clicking the sock icon on my user page. You'll find that I've been commended by the arbitration committee, and others. Cheers, Jack Merridew 17:49, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

I told you he would stalk me here, Maile66. Regardless of his contentions, the use of that filmography template was determined by consensus. Jack's little post above comes from stalking my edits. Wildhartlivie ( talk) 18:00, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
It's not stalking if you mention a user, by name, and that user responds to such a mention.  Chicken monkey  19:44, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
It is exactly stalking if the user wasn't previously mentioned and he shows up within an hour to edit where you just were and then posts here, 10 hours later. Please get the chronology right. Wildhartlivie ( talk) 19:54, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
On this user's talk page:

"How funny. I know exactly of whom you speak - User:Jack Merridew, am I right? [...] Wildhartlivie ( talk) 16:11, 24 June 2010 (UTC)"

Then:

"Hi, Maile66. Ya, I'm the editor who cleaned-up the formatting of the filmography.[...] Jack Merridew 17:49, 24 June 2010 (UTC)"

Is that chronology correct?  Chicken monkey  22:01, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

FYI

Sock puppets are fine, it's just when they're enlisted to help the sock master in a conflict or vote that they're a problem. Just so you know, Wildhartlivie has been blocked for this kind of socking as well. See Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Wildhartlivie and [1].— Chowbok 19:28, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Sock puppets are never fine, FYI. And you can stop going about posting that shite anywhere you find an opening. Not going into it here, you're a persistent wikistalking tendentious harasser, Kim. Wildhartlivie ( talk) 19:56, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
You are wrong yet again. See WP:SOCK#LEGIT. Anyway, there's only one person here who's been blocked for sock puppetry, and it's not me.— Chowbok 20:33, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Jack Lord's filmography

I'm disputing the formatting changes re this; this is not about your cuts of some columns and the chron-sequencing; I'm fine with those aspects and will help sort those bits of it; your efforts re the content of the filmography are not the issue and I will handle the work entailed in ensuring that it is not lost. This is part of a larger dispute that I expect you are unaware of. You've gotten caught up in something else, and for that I'm sorry. Cheers, Jack Merridew 11:08, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Jack you are already aware you ran this editor away from Wikipedia with your conduct. There is nothing at issue with what this editor did with that filmography. It's all about your ongoing vendetta against me. It's really too bad you had to step over to screw with other editors. 12.74.60.27 ( talk) 20:01, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

I just contacted the E Ney museum somewhere deep in the heart of Texas and asked them about her nationality. There is a group in wikipedia (a group which I do not belong to) that are very opposed to hyphenated nationalities. I am comfortable with German-American, it is how I think of her, but that carries little weight if the wikibureaucrats show up. Thanks for your quick action. Carptrash ( talk) 19:42, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

You have done a lot at Edmund Montgomery. I have two biographies of Ney at home and will check to see if they have anything interesting on Montgomery that I can add to it. Cherokee Commission

I'm not terribly knowledgeable about the land situation in Oklahoma, but my working assumption has been that the Cherokee Commission did not deal in aboriginal title as such. The Cherokee's aboriginal title had been in the eastern states, and it was extinguished when they were removed. What the Cherokee's got in Oklahoma was something other than aboriginal title. Perhaps there should be a broader template dealing with Native American land rights more broadly (and certainly there should be such an article). Savidan 00:00, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

I like the idea of a list of museums, but I would prefer it be limited to San Diego County. I have posted a discussion subject at Talk:List of museums in the Southern Border Region (California). Let's talk about it! -- MelanieN ( talk) 02:01, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

-- Mcorazao ( talk) 15:04, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

If you want help with anything at all, you could either;

I think you're reading too much into the above, and since this is text not speech, it's best to take things at face value, so no need for any "excuse me". I want to discuss the use of reliable sources with you, and how we can improve the sourcing in the articles you created.

Jack Lord

Live Oak County Courthouse (Texas)

Thanks for fixing that mistake. I'm in the middle of updating maybe 50,000 articles, don't know the exact numbers, manually. I'm just using hotcat to assist. Vegaswikian1 ( talk) 06:55, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Brownsville, Texas museums

Hey, good job on creating the page for the museums of Brownsville, Texas! I will be working on the articles of Brownsville, Texas and Matamoros, Tamaulipas on the break, so I'll probably expand on the article you created. I want to take care of the pictures, too. Anyways, good to know there's someone involved in an article that really concerns me. Let me know if you need anything. ComputerJA 20:13, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

List of Museums in San Diego County

Hello! Just a comment to say that I liked the "List of museums in San Diego County" much better than the "List of museums in the southern border area of California" or whatever the new title is. In fact, as soon as you changed the title to "southern border region", another editor deleted the link from the "see also" section of the San Diego County article. I like the idea of a list of museums, but I would prefer it be limited to San Diego County. I have posted a discussion subject at Talk:List of museums in the Southern Border Region (California). Let's talk about it! -- MelanieN ( talk) 02:01, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Duplicate

Hi! If the San Antonio and Brooke Centers are the same, then one should be merged into another. The name currently being used should prevail WhisperToMe ( talk) 22:15, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

  • I would either merge the discussion page, or link to the old discussion page from the new one WhisperToMe ( talk) 22:36, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole

Just wondering if you have any interest in improving before the 150th anniversary of his birth on March 26? I think it should not take too big of a job to get to the bare minimum criteria of GA. KAVEBEAR ( talk) 05:31, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for asking, but right now I can't make the kind of commitment that would do it justice. My admin duties have been on the uptick, and RL is also consuming a larger chunk of my time. Good luck with doing this. — Maile ( talk) 13:06, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
