Re your message: Not a problem. The talk page I had deleted was an orphaned talk page. An IP had started an attempt at writing an article about the house, but did not get very far. There was very little written and not enough to move into article space, so I deleted it. -- Gogo Dodo ( talk) 04:01, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Hello Maile66, thanks for the correction - of course Strubberg claimed to be the great-great-grandson of Frederick I. In general Barba's biography is full of assumptions and mainly based on Strubberg's own wrtitings, which in my opinion are mostly "pseudo-autobiographical". For exmaple his assertion to have fought in the Mexican-American war as Captain: I doubt that, because he was in Texas until the end of 1847, and the last battles of the war were fought in Sept. of that year. Also in April 1848 he was in Texas, when the case regarding the Nassau Plantation came to its end and Strubberg got $3.000 from the Adelsverein as compensation for not fulfilling the lease contract (see James C. Kearney, Nassau Plantation. The Evolution of a Texas German Slave Plantation. Denton, TX: University of North Texas Press 2010). He also is not enlisted in the Roster of the Mexican War Veterans (Robarts, Wm. Hugh: Mexican War Veterans. A Complete Roster of the Regular and Volunteer Troops in the War between the United States and Mexico, from 1846 to 1848. Wshington, D.C. 1887). I am the editor of the "Marburger Ausgabe" and also the author of the german Wikipedia article about Strubberg. Marburg is about 50 miles south of Kassel and the state archive of the former Landgrafschaft Hessen-Kassel is located here. I am writing my doctoral dissertation about Strubberg and therefore try to evaluate every source regarding Strubberg's life and works (and that is less enough...). Ironically the most important documents are not located in Texas or in Germany, but in the Beinecke Rare Manuscript Library of the Yale University: The Archives of the Adelsverein (which were sold from the Solms-Braunfels family archives to an unknowm buyer in the US in the late 1960s) and the so-called "Strubberg Collection", which contains letters and other documents regarding Strubberg. These documents were originally part of the Solms-Braunfels Archives and were ripped out from the original volumes, probably in the early/mid 1960s. Transcripts of the Solms-Braunfels Archives were made in the 1920s and are located in the Center for American History, University of Texas (James Kearney used these transcripts for his book about the Nassau Plantation). Irene Marshall King's work about Meusebach is - at least regarding Strubberg - not objective, because he was Meusebach's most bitter opponent, and Marschall King was Meusebach's granddaughter. This or next year (depends on getting a scholarship to pay the flight costs) I will go to Yale and do my research on the originals. FAStrubberg ( talk) 13:56, 28 January 2012 (UTC)FAStrubberg

I really think you've oversplit them. The idea is to make as comprehensive lists as possible all in one place and its inconvient to have to browse that many pages to view them all. Now there is a great deal more to manage. Please consider moving to sub regions of Texas.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:13, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

I saw that you did some amazing work on the List of museums in North Texas page today. But I noticed the page because it showed up on the list of new dead links. The link that is dead is the first information link for the Pate Museum of Transportation - the one that goes to traveltex. I looked all over traveltex and couldn't find the museum listed and so I'm not sure if it is best to just delete the link (usually I wouldn't do that and instead would want to find a new one). I thought I'd let you know and maybe you could take care of it?

I've been working on the list of Kahus (pastors) at Kawaiahaʻo Church. It looks like you put the original list on the page Sept 2011. Just want to verify your source on the years of service for Kamau and Kahele. I find no sourcing (yet) on William Kamau. However, for Edward Kahale, I think he might have also served there in a different capacity before becoming Kahu, based on this 1922 report from the Hawaiian Evangelical Assn, and this Edward Frances Kahale Sr. at Find a Grave, which cannot possibly be him. See: Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Transit of Venus special occasion. Thanks. Viriditas ( talk) 06:05, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the compliment! I write such descriptions in two ways:
This is simply because "the cities of A and B, Texas, United States" and "A and B Counties, Texas, United States" sound very awkward to me, but I prefer "Placename, Texas, United States" because "Placename, Texas" is the more common usage and because it's much smoother to append "United States" to the end of such a statement. However, I don't remember ever seeing a policy, guideline, or essay precisely on the subject. We have a page that says to provide context for international readers by telling the name of the country (but I can't remember what it's called), and WP:UNDERLINK says that we should provide links to "relevant connections to the subject of another article that will help readers understand the article more fully" — the USA or US state, Texas, and the city and county are all these, so all should be linked. As a result, the edit you reverted simply isn't as helpful (especially since "United States" is better than "USA", or why else would our article be at United States) as the form that you prefer. Nyttend ( talk) 01:42, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Regarding this suggestion, have you received any feedback? I think it is a fine idea, and you should know, it is an idea that that has been previously published in at least two forms:
To summarize your request, you've said that would like to see the following in your article:
I really like your idea of "DYK as a teaching aid" and I would like to see you publish this idea as a Special Report in The Signpost. What I'm going to suggest is that based on your recent experience on DYK, that you research and write this article yourself as a "Special Report" and propose it for publication. I would recommend reading the dispatch from 2008 and the tool review from 2010 I linked above and taking a different approach. I would recommend working closely with two consulting members of the project to do this, a seasoned DYK admin who you can rely on for good info and a leading editor/writer from The Signpost. Viriditas ( talk) 21:40, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
On the above DYK nom, you wrote that stubs aren't eligible, but the article (at 11,000 plus bytes and 20 plus sources) isn't a stub. Could you clarify? Cbl62 ( talk) 21:46, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the dislike of infoboxes stems from several different WikiProjects with the additional support of active editors involved in the FAC process. If you look hard enough, you'll notice that several topics tend not to have infoboxes, and several editors tend to be very vocal about disliking them. However, there are potential uses for infoboxes that Wikipedia has not yet embraced. Viriditas ( talk) 03:45, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

How about I shove this here and you either make it better or have someone else do so? I looked at the guidelines and it still seems a bit legal for my skill set ... I have modified 1–3 to refer to all Gibraltar-related hooks, since that seemed to be the intent of those participating in the thread, but it might also be advisable to give people the explicit option of distinguishing Gibraltarpedia hooks from other Gibraltar hooks.
In view of the current controversy surrounding articles submitted to Did You Know that relate to Gibraltar, a temporary moratorium has been placed on acceptance of such articles for Did You Know, those that had already been accepted and were in Preparation areas or Queues to appear on the Main Page have been withdrawn and replaced, and a special holding area has been created for those nominations. One article was pulled from the Did You Know section of the Main Page.
The following four proposals have been made for what the Did You Know project should now do. Which should the project adopt?

Hi. I just saw your note regarding sourcing every section within the article. I'm making a guess, but I assume you are referring to the Brow Monument Trail information. I can cite the National Register nomination paperwork for this but, in total honesty, there is only the briefest mention of the location there. I guess, to some extent, the description of the trail, the pictures of the information signs, the pictures of the waymark posts and the pictures of the monument plaque itself are original to me. The manager of the National Forest Service office at Jacob Lake and the people at the National Park office in Grand Canyon (north) told me that i was the first person to ever go out there (that they knew of) and the first person to document it. Like I said, I could cite the Nomination because there is a little bit of information about it there. if you have any thoughts, i'm more than glad to work with them. bill polk Abearfellow ( talk) 00:05, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliment. :) I saw the message on the WP:DYK talk page and felt qualified enough to review it, though erk. :( The article isn't perfect but I think it works well enough. (There are some things that have to be remembered with Chicago, like it was the home to the labour movement in the USA for a long time, that it remains one of the last major bastions in the USA for the labour movement, that the labour movement has been violent and militant at times, that Chicago machine politics are... there and very real. But yeah, I did/do read the text of articles I review. :) Thought I would highlight as much as I was reading and responding to as possible so if some one had issues, they could explain them in a narrower context to disagree. *babbles* If I have time and there are reviews needing to be done, just ping me and if I have the time, will do it. If you have any views on this, please feel free to comment at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Time-sensitive DYK nomination. Prioryman ( talk) 21:08, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi. I was wondering about your proposal for GAs on the main page, which I'm opposed to right now. Would you be wanting one good article blurb (similar to the Featured Article blurb) or something more akin to DYK but with interesting or notable facts about article subjects? I'd think the latter would be more interesting, if indeed the proposal goes through (I think it probably will). It would also not detract too much attention from the featured article blurb. dci | TALK 16:26, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

I too noticed the issue you mention. I believe the markers currently showing up in China correspond to the coordinates which had negative longitudes (IADT and Brennan High) at the time I added the GeoGroup template. For some reason, the KML data hasn't been updated since I corrected those longitudes. I suspect the update is a "background" task caught up in the current Help:Job queue backlog. If so, the issue should correct itself eventually. If it bothers you, I'd be happy to remove the GeoGroup template or spend some more time attempting to correct the issue.

Thank you for the review. The QPQ review for Template:Did you know nominations/The Pharaoh Who Conquered the Sea has been completed.-- SGCM (talk) 11:34, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Hey Maile66. I'd like to nominate C/2012 S1 for DYK, which I put a little work into the other day. I was the main/sole contributor for my previous two articles, but C/2012 S1 has a few other editors who are actively working on it right now. Should I go ahead and nominate it and come up with a hook on my own, or should I give the other editors a chance to contribute alternate hooks as well? I'm not familiar with DYK etiquette. What is the polite thing to do? Thanks. Braincricket ( talk) 02:18, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
You could use one of these! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:49, 30 September 2012 (UTC) |
The issues you found with the Chicago Teachers Union nomination have been addressed, and I was wondering whether you'd be interested in revisiting your review to see whether they were addressed to your satisfaction. Many thanks. BlueMoonset ( talk) 18:11, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Did four other reviews today to try to get more ready for the queue but only one passed. :( -- LauraHale ( talk) 22:56, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Your extensive contribution to DYK and vastly improving the efficiency between nom and feature/credit in recent times has not gone unnoticed. It greatly improves the attractiveness of DYK and encourages editors to produce more content. Keep up the great job you do. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:01, 10 October 2012 (UTC) |
Thank you so much. It's nice to have positive feedback. — Maile66 ( talk) 17:03, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know I assessed all the unassessed Texas articles and added stub tags to some of the ones that were obvious stubs. Kumioko ( talk) 15:20, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Hello. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.
Specifically, here. Thought I'd do this as an uninvolved editor and thought you should be aware. Cheers, Stalwart111 (talk) 00:56, 16 October 2012 (UTC).
I have added cites to that graf per your request. Daniel Case ( talk) 04:22, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
You participated earlier in Wikipedia talk:Did you know/GibraltarPediA Options, in which a proposed moratorium on Gibraltar-related DYKs was rejected and a set of options was agreed. There is currently a suggestion from editors who did not participate in that discussion that a moratorium should be imposed, overturning the earlier agreement.

I'm dealing with the same problem. My pop-ups and the edit box header are gone. Please explain how you resolved it on your computer. Much appreciated. Poeticbent talk 15:33, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
Can you fix this template as it should be Template:Did you know nominations/William Calvin Chase without article Washington Bee as "Bee" has already been a DYK. Thanks.-- Doug Coldwell talk 13:21, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi Maile - If you take a look at these, you'll get the gist: Talk:Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary (→"Haunted"); Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/FCYTravis; Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard (→Resysopping); User talk:Polarscribe. Easiest if you just go to Dr. B's contributions and take a look at the last day he edited. Such a pity it came to this. I really miss collaborating with him. -- Rosiestep ( talk) 03:20, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

By the way, my grandfather grew up in San Antonio, so I feel connected to the place despite the fact that I've never been there. Best wishes, — Stepheng3 ( talk) 20:59, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
Hello Maile66. Thanks for the notifications at my talk page. I've addressed the following articles, and here are the links to the DYK nominations:
The other two articles ( Mercedes-Benz W142 and The Heroine) will take more time to address, if possible, because links to sources are not available in the articles. These will require significant research for sources. Thanks for pointing out the Did You Know Supplementary guidelines for future reference. Cheers, Northamerica1000 (talk) 05:56, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
I've undone your attempt to close the discussion since there is no parallel discussion elsewhere, nor will there be - Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Wikipedia proposals is a link to discussions, not a venue for them. Secondly, if you do decide to close a discussion with {{ archive top}}, don't forget to use {{ archive bottom}} as well. Thanks, Bencherlite Talk 16:08, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
