Hi.
Was wondering if you could help with something.
I've added info to an article with a supporting reference. What I want to do is label the link, ie. Jacquizz Rodgers-Player Profile so that it isn't bare.
I've read the instructions over a few times, but am not getting it. Anyway you can give some pointers.
Thanks. Ulric1313 ( talk) 05:17, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Got a couple questions for ya on Huggle (as I see you use it). Do you have to be approved to use Huggle (like with AWB)? I downloaded it, but it wouldn't allow me to connect. Also, is Huggle like a browser (like FireFox or IE) or a program? Third, I am not the world's most knowledgeable when it comes to computer programs (AWB confused me...bad!), is Huggle easy to use. Thanks ahead of time for answering my questions. Take Care... NeutralHomer • Talk • November 2, 2008 @ 01:34

Pardon my lack of "wikiquette" on the part of Lyle123, but that kid has been a pain since day one. Worse, I actually tried to reason with him. I offered his last sock the chance to be mentored and he not only ignored me, he did another Hollywood-fueled nonsense article. Now that it's off my chest, I feel better. I hoped that there was some way to get through to him so that he didn't waste our time and his, but there is something very wrong with that individual's head. You have treated my edit on GC_(gene) as vandalism but it is not. It would be helpful if you read what you delete as it clearly was not vandalism. Here is what I wrote on the talk page but someone else has removed that!
I had also entered the amino acid sequence for the first (of 3) domains. I added the spaces to allow for soft line breaks. I have not added this back in as it looks like random letters, but makes sense to those working with protein sequences. The letters represent amino acids. Perhaps wikipedia does not wish to have protein sequences included (this may be reasonable) so I have posted it below for yourself or another to consider transferring it to the article if it has merit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.236.43.26 ( talk) 02:57, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey J.delanoy. If you're not busy, I've been writing an AIV Console for wikisysops that makes it easier for admins to block users that are reported. It shows the users contribs and you can block from within the app. However, since I'm not a sysop, I cannot easily test it. I know that everything works besides the blocking, which I'm unsure about. Hi,
I've noticed you deleting a lot of proded articles today that I had on my watchlist because I had added a prod-2 while "patrolling" them. I hope you don't mind if I ask you a question about this. Does the prod-2 actually help by, for example, reducing the time you need to take to check the article? I spend quite a lot of my time checking through prods (mainly to ensure they should be deleted, haven't been contested and the prodwarning has been applied) but I then apply the prod-2 if I agree with the reasons. If it doesn't help admins during the deletion process then I'll save my effort and not put the prod-2 on! Thanks. Unusual? Quite TalkQu 17:12, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Which is very embarrassing for me when potential clients Google search me.
Is it possible to erase my Name and Title from Wikipedia? Or is there any way to have these messages erased and "No File" or somethig come up instead?

Hi. Me again. :) When one edits User talk:Coren, one gets a snazzy preloaded message. I am considering that this may be very useful at the WP:DRAW, which has gone insanely busy since it was linked in WP:YFA. (There are only two of us working there at the moment.) Is it possible? Even if it is, mind you, I might not get consensus for it, but since we mostly get brand spanking new contributors there, I thought a preloaded message reminding of WP:C, WP:BLP and a few other things could help. If you don't know, I'll pester Coren. But I thought I'd start by pestering you. :) -- Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:11, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
MediaWiki:Editnotice-[namespace ID#]-[page name]
with whatever you want to show up on that page. However, there is, as far as I know, no way to tailor a separate message for subpages. Apparently, the first "top level" message is displayed on all subpages of the original page that are in the same namespace. For example,
MediaWiki:Editnotice-4-Administrators' noticeboard is (or was - someone blanked it) displayed on
WP:AN,
WP:ANI, and
WP:AN/3RR, but not
WT:ANI. To find out the namespace ID, normally what I do is look at someone's contributions, and pull down the menu that you can use to filter the person's contribs by namespace. The namespaces are listed in the correct order. (Article)
is "0", Talk
is "1", User
is "2", User talk
is "3", etc.

I came across some IP strangeness, and upon linking to different contribs pages, I came across this diff. As much as I am opposed to IP vandalism (being a reformed vandal myself) I have to admit this is counter productive IMO. I'm not saying your block was counter productive, I'm referring specifically to your ill devised wording which includes profanity, and a threat to not only block his dynamic range (which is possible), but a further treat to "have his internet service provider terminate his service". Also, just an FYI, an ISP has several network nodes, and the above mentioned user was only using one, therefore it wouldn't be possible for you to completely block his ISP based off his IP information alone. Cheers, Digital Ninja 20:50, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
For example, depending on the dynamic IP range settings determined by the ISP, It's possible to do this, which I just did. It poses issues for dealing with vandals, obviously, so it might just be easier to "block and forget" in cases like this. Cheers, Digital Ninja 22:01, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to correct you but the information is incorrect and the wrong country name is used. This player is either Serbian or Albanian, and as he has an albanian name but is from Serbia then its only correct to issue him with the albanian flag, not the one which is currently in place which is the flag of an illegal false de-facto nation therefore wikipedia is providing false information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.21.245.235 ( talk) 23:36, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Read what i wrote please. I was just correcting the false information put up, something which you keep reverting to invalid information, i advise you to read up on the subject. As I wrote, false information is being provided to the readers by stating the place is in a province of serbia which is put down as its own country, something it is not. Please investigate the subject in order to learn that a) you are wrong and b) you were wrong to correct me. This would avoid further embarrassment on your behalf. all i ask is for you to provide the readers with a bit of truthful information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.21.245.235 ( talk) 23:45, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Dont care about the computer stuff to be honest. I am not only saying what I wish about Kosovo I am actually saying the truth, it doesnt come down to what the english speaking people think, its the actual truth that matters. Do you follow me? and as wikipedia is not a battleground as you stated, but an online encyclopedia, therefore the encyclopedia has to tell the truth, not lies, not what the english speaking community thinks because it, like yourself have been brainwashed by pro american nonsense and the western media and fail to look into the truth of the matter. Understand? So go and read up on it, both sides of the argument, realise that you have caused further embarrassment. Its not what the majority thinks, its the truth that matters. Like i have numerously outlined, people shouldnt be provided with false information. I hope i have managed to teach you a think or two about this matter. Preventing users from editing Mathematics because of a perceived problem, resulting from a dispute with an administrator, when no actual changes have been made seems rather arbitrary. I started the discussion with the intent of allowing a discussion to go forth, not to start an edit war. If you will check, there have been no edits so far in regards to this topic, and protecting articles in this manner only serves to discourage new contributors. -- MeatJustice ( talk) 00:26, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
I looked at the source of your user page ( current version) because I wanted to check a detail of the babel box syntax, and found the wiki source code to be intentionally awkward. As such, it may not be possible to copy it under the terms of the GFDL -- see the requirements re Transparent copy in section 3, and the definition of Transparent in section 1 ("A copy made in an otherwise Transparent file format whose markup, or absence of markup, has been arranged to thwart or discourage subsequent modification by readers is not Transparent."). I know you're just having a bit of fun with it, and I don't particularly want to spoil your fun, but the GFDL is so fundamental to the success of this project that we can't afford to have pages that can't be copied compliantly. Hi, J, hope this finds you well.
I'm writing because I'm concerned that some of your comments at
Talk:Barack Obama have taken a turn from "understandably frustrated" to "unnecessarily bite-y" especially in these
two
diffs. I can tell from your edit summaries that you are stressed- and I can honestly say I empathize with you (finals... approaching... must... study...) and I know how annoying it can be when you feel you are not being listened to, especially when other stressful things are happening in real life. For example, remember all that crazy shit that went down in the wake of me protecting the candidates articles? Yeah, that was right in the middle of midterms! The good news is, I have exceptionally thick hair, so even after I pulled about half of it out, it doesn't look much different.
What I'm trying to say, and maybe it's not coming out right, is that while I happen to agree with your pov (it should stay African American and consensus says that) and I share your frustration at editors who believe that argumentum ad nauseum is not a logical fallacy, I think that you need to remember that as an admin you represent the community in many ways and it is rather bad form to be telling other editors that they can't see their noses in front of their faces (even if it's true!). I'm not asking you to apologize in anyway, merely to consider that next time, if you really need to vent, please to do it on my talk page instead.

Don't be so hard on yourself. The Obama page and discussion is by its very nature a controversial topic. The excitmenst and the sting of the election has not worn off yet, so people go there to either vent or gloat, using wikipedia as a screen. You have been a major force on wikipedia and have been helpful to me on a few occasions. to the article for freecreditreport.com vandalism?
It is officially posted on their site.
Millions of people are being scammed every day by freecreditreport.com (that is why I posted it on the controversy page)
I wrote to the addresses that I posted and recieved a full refund.
people need to know that it is possible to get their $$ back.
I did this in a completely objective way that was informative.
This is a perfect example of why I hardly ever use wikipedia. it's supposed to be free dissemination of accurate information, but it's patrolled by administrators who love to delete any comment they personally feel isnt up to their subjective standard.
go ahead, block my IP, its really no loss to me that I get blocked from a site where I can't add anything anyways.
I have plenty of other places where I have equal and fair input.
Wikipedia is the antithesis of free information sharing. Ironic since it was designed to be the opposite. I understand the objective is to prevent spam, but you guys have taken moderation to an extreme big brother level.
````trevor jordet
/tjordet why bother having a section on controversy then?
What about adding something like:
Consumers who felt they were scammed were able to get a full refund by writing a letter to the following address
ConsumerInfo.com Attn: Customer Care PO Box 19729 Irvine, CA 92623-9729
There is very little, if any difference between this statement and the article preceding it.
As far as sources go, I experienced this first hand and the whole point of me writing about it is to create documentation so that others can use the information I learned. there are no sources that I know of of similar experiences by other people who found a solution, but I do know there are thousands of people experiencing the problem.
I could create a link to the freecreditreport.com page where the address is listed.
would that be sufficient?
For some reason Timber Creek Regional High School is subject to tons of vandalism, even for a high school article. There are dozens of other South Jersey high schools that rarely get vandalized, if ever, yet TCRHS gets it constantly. I'm not sure if you're an administrator but I'd like to request a semi-protected block on this article. I feel it would greatly reduce vandalism; plus the only people who would really be editing it for productive purposes are people with good intent and (at least) minimal knowledge of Wikipedia standards. I feel it's win-win. Thoughts? - Jrcla2 ( talk)( contribs) 21:51, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi J, User 71.236.51.195 has been inserting unsourced pov/blp vios on both the Jeremiah Wright and Rahm Emanuel articles. After placing final warnings on the user's talk page regarding his disruptive edits/vandalism, the user has again reverted the consensus paragraph per WP:SS on the Wright page and reverted the removal of the BLP vio on Emanuel's page. Could you please block this editor. Regarding the Wright artcle, I no longer have the time to revert the excessive vandalism and BLP vios (the only activity on the article) and request that you semi-protect the page. Thanks, IP75 ( talk) 23:24, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
But there is something screwy going on here: This appears to show that Dddike ( talk · contribs) is indefinitely blocked. Hi! I edit this page because the main talk page was protected. I noticed here that you used a nice version of the vandalism warning template which includes not only the article (that's the version of the template I've been able to find) but also the specific edit that caused the warning. I would very much like to know what the syntax is for the version of the vandalism warning template you used, if you have the time to share it with me. Again, as I have discussed with another editor, I am a teacher, giving a presentation to a class about how unreliable sources on Wiki could be. I could just as easily change something less obvious that would go unnoticed, but the point of the presentaion would be lost. All I need is 2 hours on an entry that outside of my class, 1 person might look at this week. Please let me know what I need to do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.163.44.179 ( talk) 22:00, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
All you have proven is that you can delete obvious misinformation. I appreciate your work, but I could just as easily edit a section of the JAVA programming language article and only a select few people would have the knowledge to catch it. The impact on the class however would not be the same. By the way, I don't mean to insult you, but blocking a public IP address would hardly solve the problem, all I would really need to do is go to the library and there are 30 different IP addresses waiting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.163.44.179 ( talk) 22:14, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Okay, honestly, you consider yourself a teacher? I am utterly disgusted at the fact that a teacher would purposefully insert misinformation into an article, regardless of reason. We have everything cited here for a reason, even misinformation that is hard to spot gets reverted rather quickly. I will also watch your contributions very closely, and if I see anything, then I will revert it. Also, there are no entries looked at once a week....Do you know how many people use this site? That was my first go at an article. I was bored, and wrote about the only thing i could think about: my friends' Youtube videoes.
I only questioned why it was deleted because I like to debate and I wondered what an article has to be to considered relevant.
I was also a little frustrated when it immediately said 'this article has been deleted'
And you're right, these videoes have little to no relevance to the rest of the world. They're ok but nothing special
Making a wiki page was kind of fun, but very time consuming. I doubt I'll try again for a long time.
I see you reverted Image:MrHussainbritishpassport2.JPG because the page was blanked by Special:Contributions/125.209.115.132. This may be something, it may be nothing. Earlier I reverted Wikipedia:Notability (music) ( dif) because of an "edit" User:Dj sultan1 had made. When I posted a notice on their talk page I saw they had an article there, the same one they had overwritten Wikipedia:Notability (music) with. Upon further research I now see they had done it before ( Wikipedia:Wikipedians dif) and been warned before ( 02:16, November 2, 2008 diff). How this relates to your IP revision is that Special:Contributions/Dj_sultan1 show the primary edits are to their talk page and to Maaz Moeed. During the time frame that Image:MrHussainbritishpassport2.JPG was blanked Special:Contributions/125.209.115.132 shows edits being made to Maaz Moeed both before, and after, the three article were vandalized. A look at the Revision history of Maaz Moeed shows the only editors have been I.P 125.209.115.132 and Dj sultan1. As I say - may be nothing, may be something. I do realize now though that my warning should have been a level 3, not a level 1. As the user keeps removing the warnings I did not see the others they had this month. Greetings, J.delanoy. I'm assuming you're not really a bot, even though I'm not yet fully convinced you're not a frozen dessert on Razna-5. citation needed I've been thinking about standing for adminship for about a year now, and at this stage I'm interested to get your perspective on the matter. So here's a handy console: Scheinwerfermann ( talk · contribs) and here we go:
During those ten months, I'd done a great deal of explaining how Wikipedia works (and doesn't work) to a lot of new editors, particularly IP-only editors whose enthusiasm for their pet topics outstripped their regard for WP's protocol and standards of information quality — many new editors regard the rules as a bureaucracy for its own sake, for the privileged few to exercise authoritarian control over what can be added and by whom. I found myself explaining tenets, philosophy and principles so often that I put together a participant's guide of sorts on my user page. As is to be expected, these educational efforts of mine met with mixed results. But I feel the exercise was of great benefit to me in that it drove me to take a hard look at my own contributions and find areas for improvement. One of those is in adherence to it's not what I know, it's what I can document. This is a real toughie for anyone who's enthusiastic and knowledgeable about any given topic, and I'm no exception, but it is absolutely crucial to the quality of this encyclopædia we're building. Another aspect of my contributions I've worked to improve, as I say, is in keeping a civil tone and an appropriate perspective on whatever matter is at hand during discussions. This can get difficult when opinions are passionately held, but it, too, is critical to the success of the project. And that's why I needed to go back and undo my incivility on Talk:Fuel injection, because I couldn't in good conscience guide others towards better understanding and closer compliance with Wikipedia's tenets without moving in that same direction myself.
That being the case, the community has to have some other reliable way of assessing my community involvement. I participate frequently and thoughtfully in Wikipedia's consensus-building and housekeeping processes, usually within the sphere of my areas of interest and expertise. I try to take a leadership role and facilitate consensus-building on matters of technical administration; for examples see here and here and here. As for housekeeping, when I find existing tools lacking, I make a new one (or two or three) if I'm able. When I see talk page hierarchy all hashed up making it hard to see who's responding to whom, I fix it. When I see vandalism or other improper contributions, I take especial care not just to clean it up, but to alert and/or warn its perpetrators appropriately — not just so they'll be aware they're doing it wrong and someone sees them doing it wrong, but also to facilitate appropriate corrective action if they carry on damaging the project. When conflicts require mediation of one sort or another, I initiate and/or participate in it, see here. When I suspect sock puppetry, I report it properly; see here and here. When AIV is needed, I formally request it ( [9] [10]). I participate in the give and take of informal dispute resolution. When I can, I enforce important provisions that don't require administrator intervention ( [11]).
When I find myself reading articles in need of improvement, even if they're outside my areas of interest or direct expertise, I work to improve them.
At the moment, I think one of the better single mainspace contribs I've made is this one.
Whew, glad you like my answers; I was worried I'd babbled at excessive length. No hurry, please; to be perfectly Soviet about it, I waited a year or so to look seriously at the possibility of standing for an RfA, so why should a few days or weeks make any difference! Looking forward to your detailed remarks. Have a good weekend. — Scheinwerfermann T· C02:50, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Useight and Balloonman, thanks for your comments. I'll look at expanding the scope of my activities to include wikispace beyond the confines of a project. Balloonman, could you clarify one of your remarks for me? You say at this time I'd be a candidate you'd "end up struggling with", and I want to make sure I understand you. Do you mean you'd struggle to support a bid for adminship at this time? Or do you mean you see something in my contributions that suggests you and I might clash? — Scheinwerfermann T· C20:02, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi, JD. Earlier today I ran across this and this. To my eye, both of these seem to violate WP:NOT#STATS, go against several provisions described in WP:LISTCRUFT, and — perhaps of greatest concern — appear to be nothing more or less than a wholesale grab-and-partially-formatted-dump of the information at www.fueleconomy.gov (without the nicety of alphabetic listing or vehicle categorisation sections). Both of these articles have been deleted, both deletions have been contested, both articles have been restored, and one of the articles has been re-nommed for deletion with a result of keep. It looks to me as if most of the arguments put forth by pro-keep !voters boil down to "I like it", and many of the !vote justifications evince little or no understanding of Wikipedia protocol and policy (e.g. "it's not "listcruft", whatever that means").
What is the appropriate action to take, if any? I don't believe these articles belong, I don't think they can be brought into line with policy and protocol; I think they ought to be deleted. But I don't know if there's much good to be done by reopening a closed debate, even if the standing conclusion seems to have been based on very shaky ground. I would appreciate your thoughts; I'm asking one or two other admins, as well. Thanks! — Scheinwerfermann T· C20:23, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
hi, i must contest your removal of the information regarding matt lucas's involvement in funny or die uk, and the the removal of the link to his official blog. this should count under his career as much as his tv work as he is directly involved in the project, and the link to his blog is as much an appropriate external link as a link to an official celebrity website/fansite (seeing as he does not have a website).
if you could please explain the removal of this information i would be grateful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.169.161.122 ( talk) 14:43, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
J. Delanoy,
I implore you to reconsider the content i added regarding John Edwards. I believe it is accurate and by no means offensive in any way, shape or form. Perhaps you should re-assess your perspective on the matter, enlighten yourself through research and consider an alternate viewpoint.
Hi, I put a page up about the english and media centre and it's bee deleted, would you be able to tell me why. I saw this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Association_for_the_Teaching_of_English which seems seems to be up there without any problems and I just wanted to post a similar thing and the english and media centre. Rscambler ( talk) 16:55, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
gotcha. I don't mind it not being up there if it's not appropriate, just didn't want people to search for English and Media Centre and see lots of error messages. Think this will be my first and last wikipedia entry for a while! Thanks for your help. Rscambler ( talk) 17:13, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
You recently reverted the changes I made to the above mentioned article, siting vandalism as the reason.
I now kindly refer you a statement given on the vandalism page: "Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism. Even harmful edits that are not explicitly made in bad faith are not considered vandalism. For example, adding a controversial personal opinion to an article once is not vandalism; reinserting it despite multiple warnings is. Not all vandalism is obvious, nor are all massive or controversial changes vandalism. Careful attention may need to be given to whether changes made are beneficial, detrimental but well-intended, or outright vandalism."
Certainly my edit qualifies as a good-faith effort and not vandalism. If someone believes my addition of Bauck to the famous people from Curacao list is unwarranted, then a discussion should ensue, but certainly I should not be labeled as a vandal.
I've been continuously re-changing the undoes, but the only other comment that was made was that his notoriety was not evident. So perhaps you removed my change due to the fact that it had been removed before. So I ask, what qualifies as evident notoriety? Surely BalusC qualifies. Any search engine anywhere will quickly reveal him as notable. Also note that his notoriety is equal to those also mentioned on the list.
Thanks for listening 208.177.146.102 ( talk) 17:03, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
You deleted the article for the film Call This a Cry for Help, because you claim it has no noteriety or legitimacy. Well, as linked on the page, this film is included on IMDb and has recently become available on Amazon for purchase on DVD and Amazon Unbox. It debuted at the first annual Independent Features film festival, which was the very first entirely online international film festival EVER. The film played for an entire month and was seen by people all over the world. This film is a registered, copywritten movie that has a copy stored in the Library of Congress. Can you please explain your reason for reverting my edit to pulmonary contusion? It was an improvement, not vandalism, and I left an edit summary. I certainly understand reasonable people may disagree over a stylistic change (or in this case a stylistic change which included fixing an incredibly poorly worded sentence that started with a list and ended with what the list was for; a stylistic abomination, as well as a completely incorrect part of speech, "requisite", being used where "required" was meant. I do not understand such reversion without explanation. I know you get a lot of vandalism on Wikipedia from ip users, but you really need to look at edits before blindly reverting or at least provide some clue of your reasoning for reverting an obvious good faith edit that makes sense. 151.202.35.71 ( talk) 04:27, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
As you seem to have become a semi-mentor to IRP, can you keep an eye on this situation, which I just noticed (his talkpage is still watchlisted from my conversation with him last week). While I've posted a (hopefully not too rude) "please stop" notice, I don't want to start with the full-blown scaremongering myself – after our exchange of views last week, it might look like I'm stalking him – but I don't think he realises just how much trouble he's going to get in very quickly if he decides to make himself the self-appointed arbiter of what can and can't be on userpages (quite aside from the spectacular show of bad faith shown in "I have removed this article from your list of achievements, as I don't believe that you were the one who wrote it"). He's obviously here in good faith, but he doesn't seem to understand how Wikipedia works, and he'll probably listen to the explanation better from you than from me – and while it may seem a bit rude, it's far better for him to get warnings and explanations now, than to suddenly find himself blocked should he try something like this with someone less patient. – iride scent 19:10, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
You have treated my edit on GC_(gene) as vandalism but it is not. It would be helpful if you read what you delete as it clearly was not vandalism. Here is what I wrote on the talk page but someone else has removed that!
I had also entered the amino acid sequence for the first (of 3) domains. I added the spaces to allow for soft line breaks. I have not added this back in as it looks like random letters, but makes sense to those working with protein sequences. The letters represent amino acids. Perhaps wikipedia does not wish to have protein sequences included (this may be reasonable) so I have posted it below for yourself or another to consider transferring it to the article if it has merit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.236.43.26 ( talk) 02:57, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi,
I've noticed you deleting a lot of proded articles today that I had on my watchlist because I had added a prod-2 while "patrolling" them. I hope you don't mind if I ask you a question about this. Does the prod-2 actually help by, for example, reducing the time you need to take to check the article? I spend quite a lot of my time checking through prods (mainly to ensure they should be deleted, haven't been contested and the prodwarning has been applied) but I then apply the prod-2 if I agree with the reasons. If it doesn't help admins during the deletion process then I'll save my effort and not put the prod-2 on! Thanks. Unusual? Quite TalkQu 17:12, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi. Me again. :) When one edits User talk:Coren, one gets a snazzy preloaded message. I am considering that this may be very useful at the WP:DRAW, which has gone insanely busy since it was linked in WP:YFA. (There are only two of us working there at the moment.) Is it possible? Even if it is, mind you, I might not get consensus for it, but since we mostly get brand spanking new contributors there, I thought a preloaded message reminding of WP:C, WP:BLP and a few other things could help. If you don't know, I'll pester Coren. But I thought I'd start by pestering you. :) -- Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:11, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
MediaWiki:Editnotice-[namespace ID#]-[page name]
with whatever you want to show up on that page. However, there is, as far as I know, no way to tailor a separate message for subpages. Apparently, the first "top level" message is displayed on all subpages of the original page that are in the same namespace. For example,
MediaWiki:Editnotice-4-Administrators' noticeboard is (or was - someone blanked it) displayed on
WP:AN,
WP:ANI, and
WP:AN/3RR, but not
WT:ANI. To find out the namespace ID, normally what I do is look at someone's contributions, and pull down the menu that you can use to filter the person's contribs by namespace. The namespaces are listed in the correct order. (Article)
is "0", Talk
is "1", User
is "2", User talk
I came across some IP strangeness, and upon linking to different contribs pages, I came across this diff. As much as I am opposed to IP vandalism (being a reformed vandal myself) I have to admit this is counter productive IMO. I'm not saying your block was counter productive, I'm referring specifically to your ill devised wording which includes profanity, and a threat to not only block his dynamic range (which is possible), but a further treat to "have his internet service provider terminate his service". Also, just an FYI, an ISP has several network nodes, and the above mentioned user was only using one, therefore it wouldn't be possible for you to completely block his ISP based off his IP information alone. Cheers, Digital Ninja 20:50, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
For example, depending on the dynamic IP range settings determined by the ISP, It's possible to do this, which I just did. It poses issues for dealing with vandals, obviously, so it might just be easier to "block and forget" in cases like this. Cheers, Digital Ninja 22:01, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to correct you but the information is incorrect and the wrong country name is used. This player is either Serbian or Albanian, and as he has an albanian name but is from Serbia then its only correct to issue him with the albanian flag, not the one which is currently in place which is the flag of an illegal false de-facto nation therefore wikipedia is providing false information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.21.245.235 ( talk) 23:36, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Read what i wrote please. I was just correcting the false information put up, something which you keep reverting to invalid information, i advise you to read up on the subject. As I wrote, false information is being provided to the readers by stating the place is in a province of serbia which is put down as its own country, something it is not. Please investigate the subject in order to learn that a) you are wrong and b) you were wrong to correct me. This would avoid further embarrassment on your behalf. all i ask is for you to provide the readers with a bit of truthful information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.21.245.235 ( talk) 23:45, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Dont care about the computer stuff to be honest. I am not only saying what I wish about Kosovo I am actually saying the truth, it doesnt come down to what the english speaking people think, its the actual truth that matters. Do you follow me? and as wikipedia is not a battleground as you stated, but an online encyclopedia, therefore the encyclopedia has to tell the truth, not lies, not what the english speaking community thinks because it, like yourself have been brainwashed by pro american nonsense and the western media and fail to look into the truth of the matter. Understand? So go and read up on it, both sides of the argument, realise that you have caused further embarrassment. Its not what the majority thinks, its the truth that matters. Like i have numerously outlined, people shouldnt be provided with false information. I hope i have managed to teach you a think or two about this matter. Preventing users from editing Mathematics because of a perceived problem, resulting from a dispute with an administrator, when no actual changes have been made seems rather arbitrary. I started the discussion with the intent of allowing a discussion to go forth, not to start an edit war. If you will check, there have been no edits so far in regards to this topic, and protecting articles in this manner only serves to discourage new contributors. -- MeatJustice ( talk) 00:26, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
I looked at the source of your user page ( current version) because I wanted to check a detail of the babel box syntax, and found the wiki source code to be intentionally awkward. As such, it may not be possible to copy it under the terms of the GFDL -- see the requirements re Transparent copy in section 3, and the definition of Transparent in section 1 ("A copy made in an otherwise Transparent file format whose markup, or absence of markup, has been arranged to thwart or discourage subsequent modification by readers is not Transparent."). I know you're just having a bit of fun with it, and I don't particularly want to spoil your fun, but the GFDL is so fundamental to the success of this project that we can't afford to have pages that can't be copied compliantly. Hi, J, hope this finds you well.
I'm writing because I'm concerned that some of your comments at
Talk:Barack Obama have taken a turn from "understandably frustrated" to "unnecessarily bite-y" especially in these
two
diffs. I can tell from your edit summaries that you are stressed- and I can honestly say I empathize with you (finals... approaching... must... study...) and I know how annoying it can be when you feel you are not being listened to, especially when other stressful things are happening in real life. For example, remember all that crazy shit that went down in the wake of me protecting the candidates articles? Yeah, that was right in the middle of midterms! The good news is, I have exceptionally thick hair, so even after I pulled about half of it out, it doesn't look much different.
What I'm trying to say, and maybe it's not coming out right, is that while I happen to agree with your pov (it should stay African American and consensus says that) and I share your frustration at editors who believe that argumentum ad nauseum is not a logical fallacy, I think that you need to remember that as an admin you represent the community in many ways and it is rather bad form to be telling other editors that they can't see their noses in front of their faces (even if it's true!). I'm not asking you to apologize in anyway, merely to consider that next time, if you really need to vent, please to do it on my talk page instead.
It is officially posted on their site.
Millions of people are being scammed every day by freecreditreport.com (that is why I posted it on the controversy page)
I wrote to the addresses that I posted and recieved a full refund.
people need to know that it is possible to get their $$ back.
I did this in a completely objective way that was informative.
This is a perfect example of why I hardly ever use wikipedia. it's supposed to be free dissemination of accurate information, but it's patrolled by administrators who love to delete any comment they personally feel isnt up to their subjective standard.
go ahead, block my IP, its really no loss to me that I get blocked from a site where I can't add anything anyways.
I have plenty of other places where I have equal and fair input.
Wikipedia is the antithesis of free information sharing. Ironic since it was designed to be the opposite. I understand the objective is to prevent spam, but you guys have taken moderation to an extreme big brother level.
````trevor jordet
/tjordet why bother having a section on controversy then?
What about adding something like:
Consumers who felt they were scammed were able to get a full refund by writing a letter to the following address
ConsumerInfo.com Attn: Customer Care PO Box 19729 Irvine, CA 92623-9729
There is very little, if any difference between this statement and the article preceding it.
As far as sources go, I experienced this first hand and the whole point of me writing about it is to create documentation so that others can use the information I learned. there are no sources that I know of of similar experiences by other people who found a solution, but I do know there are thousands of people experiencing the problem.
I could create a link to the freecreditreport.com page where the address is listed.
would that be sufficient?
For some reason Timber Creek Regional High School is subject to tons of vandalism, even for a high school article. There are dozens of other South Jersey high schools that rarely get vandalized, if ever, yet TCRHS gets it constantly. I'm not sure if you're an administrator but I'd like to request a semi-protected block on this article. I feel it would greatly reduce vandalism; plus the only people who would really be editing it for productive purposes are people with good intent and (at least) minimal knowledge of Wikipedia standards. I feel it's win-win. Thoughts? - Jrcla2 ( talk)( contribs) 21:51, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I know. I'm picky. Sue me ;-) Seriously, I ought to get a crat to temporarily sysop you here so that you can test your tool in a live environment. (yeah right, but you know what I mean. It's hard to know what works well when you can only test it in a sandbox.) Seriously, email me and tell me where you live. If you live reasonably close to me, I might be able to come to your house some time and let you watch me use your tool in a live environment and implement my feature requests in real time. Greetings, J. I read your page on nominations for adminstrationship with some interest, coming away with the reinforced belief that the process of becoming one is more than a bit stressful. As an editor whose contributions almost certainly fall short (only about 2,000 edits or so), I know that it's possible I may be insane enough to subject myself to the process someday. Your advice on learning diverse skills is extremely helpful in that regard. What have you found is an acceptable number of recent edits? A hundred a day? A thousand? -- otherlleft ( talk) 21:36, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

For those that do have the know how I point out that they can get the audio book for FREE from librivox.org. Hi, JD. Please take a look at this and you'll see a fairly routine (if nasty and protracted) block of a puppetmaster and numerous socks. But there is something screwy going on here: This appears to show that Dddike ( talk · contribs) is indefinitely blocked. However, this appears to show that Dddike is an alias of Regushee, who does not appear to be blocked. And this morning, User talk:Dddike was (again?) maliciously turned into a browser-crashing mess by Dddike. I rolled it back, but...um...like...huh? I've no recent beef with Regushee/Dddike, though s/he certainly has made problems in the past. All you have proven is that you can delete obvious misinformation. I appreciate your work, but I could just as easily edit a section of the JAVA programming language article and only a select few people would have the knowledge to catch it. The impact on the class however would not be the same. By the way, I don't mean to insult you, but blocking a public IP address would hardly solve the problem, all I would really need to do is go to the library and there are 30 different IP addresses waiting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.163.44.179 ( talk) 22:14, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Okay, honestly, you consider yourself a teacher? I am utterly disgusted at the fact that a teacher would purposefully insert misinformation into an article, regardless of reason. We have everything cited here for a reason, even misinformation that is hard to spot gets reverted rather quickly. I will also watch your contributions very closely, and if I see anything, then I will revert it. Also, there are no entries looked at once a week....Do you know how many people use this site? I put myself up for editor review, if you're so inclined I wouldn't mind your feedback!-- otherlleft ( talk) 03:33, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
That was my first go at an article. I was bored, and wrote about the only thing i could think about: my friends' Youtube videoes.
I only questioned why it was deleted because I like to debate and I wondered what an article has to be to considered relevant.
I was also a little frustrated when it immediately said 'this article has been deleted'
And you're right, these videoes have little to no relevance to the rest of the world. They're ok but nothing special
Making a wiki page was kind of fun, but very time consuming. I doubt I'll try again for a long time.

Hi. I see you reverted Image:MrHussainbritishpassport2.JPG because the page was blanked by Special:Contributions/125.209.115.132. This may be something, it may be nothing. Earlier I reverted Wikipedia:Notability (music) ( dif) because of an "edit" User:Dj sultan1 had made. When I posted a notice on their talk page I saw they had an article there, the same one they had overwritten Wikipedia:Notability (music) with. Upon further research I now see they had done it before ( Wikipedia:Wikipedians dif) and been warned before ( 02:16, November 2, 2008 diff). How this relates to your IP revision is that Special:Contributions/Dj_sultan1 show the primary edits are to their talk page and to Maaz Moeed. During the time frame that Image:MrHussainbritishpassport2.JPG was blanked Special:Contributions/125.209.115.132 shows edits being made to Maaz Moeed both before, and after, the three article were vandalized. A look at the Revision history of Maaz Moeed shows the only editors have been I.P 125.209.115.132 and Dj sultan1. As I say - may be nothing, may be something. I do realize now though that my warning should have been a level 3, not a level 1. As the user keeps removing the warnings I did not see the others they had this month. Greetings, J.delanoy. I'm assuming you're not really a bot, even though I'm not yet fully convinced you're not a frozen dessert on Razna-5. citation needed I've been thinking about standing for adminship for about a year now, and at this stage I'm interested to get your perspective on the matter. So here's a handy console: Scheinwerfermann ( talk · contribs) and here we go:
During those ten months, I'd done a great deal of explaining how Wikipedia works (and doesn't work) to a lot of new editors, particularly IP-only editors whose enthusiasm for their pet topics outstripped their regard for WP's protocol and standards of information quality — many new editors regard the rules as a bureaucracy for its own sake, for the privileged few to exercise authoritarian control over what can be added and by whom. I found myself explaining tenets, philosophy and principles so often that I put together a participant's guide of sorts on my user page. As is to be expected, these educational efforts of mine met with mixed results. But I feel the exercise was of great benefit to me in that it drove me to take a hard look at my own contributions and find areas for improvement. One of those is in adherence to it's not what I know, it's what I can document. This is a real toughie for anyone who's enthusiastic and knowledgeable about any given topic, and I'm no exception, but it is absolutely crucial to the quality of this encyclopædia we're building. Another aspect of my contributions I've worked to improve, as I say, is in keeping a civil tone and an appropriate perspective on whatever matter is at hand during discussions. This can get difficult when opinions are passionately held, but it, too, is critical to the success of the project. And that's why I needed to go back and undo my incivility on Talk:Fuel injection, because I couldn't in good conscience guide others towards better understanding and closer compliance with Wikipedia's tenets without moving in that same direction myself.
That being the case, the community has to have some other reliable way of assessing my community involvement. I participate frequently and thoughtfully in Wikipedia's consensus-building and housekeeping processes, usually within the sphere of my areas of interest and expertise. I try to take a leadership role and facilitate consensus-building on matters of technical administration; for examples see here and here and here. As for housekeeping, when I find existing tools lacking, I make a new one (or two or three) if I'm able. When I see talk page hierarchy all hashed up making it hard to see who's responding to whom, I fix it. When I see vandalism or other improper contributions, I take especial care not just to clean it up, but to alert and/or warn its perpetrators appropriately — not just so they'll be aware they're doing it wrong and someone sees them doing it wrong, but also to facilitate appropriate corrective action if they carry on damaging the project. When conflicts require mediation of one sort or another, I initiate and/or participate in it, see here. When I suspect sock puppetry, I report it properly; see here and here. When AIV is needed, I formally request it ( [9] [10]). I participate in the give and take of informal dispute resolution. When I can, I enforce important provisions that don't require administrator intervention ( [11]).
When I find myself reading articles in need of improvement, even if they're outside my areas of interest or direct expertise, I work to improve them.
At the moment, I think one of the better single mainspace contribs I've made is this one.
Whew, glad you like my answers; I was worried I'd babbled at excessive length. No hurry, please; to be perfectly Soviet about it, I waited a year or so to look seriously at the possibility of standing for an RfA, so why should a few days or weeks make any difference! Looking forward to your detailed remarks. Have a good weekend. — Scheinwerfermann T· C02:50, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Useight and Balloonman, thanks for your comments. I'll look at expanding the scope of my activities to include wikispace beyond the confines of a project. Balloonman, could you clarify one of your remarks for me? You say at this time I'd be a candidate you'd "end up struggling with", and I want to make sure I understand you. Do you mean you'd struggle to support a bid for adminship at this time? Or do you mean you see something in my contributions that suggests you and I might clash? — Scheinwerfermann T· C20:02, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, JD. Earlier today I ran across this and this. To my eye, both of these seem to violate WP:NOT#STATS, go against several provisions described in WP:LISTCRUFT, and — perhaps of greatest concern — appear to be nothing more or less than a wholesale grab-and-partially-formatted-dump of the information at www.fueleconomy.gov (without the nicety of alphabetic listing or vehicle categorisation sections). Both of these articles have been deleted, both deletions have been contested, both articles have been restored, and one of the articles has been re-nommed for deletion with a result of keep. It looks to me as if most of the arguments put forth by pro-keep !voters boil down to "I like it", and many of the !vote justifications evince little or no understanding of Wikipedia protocol and policy (e.g. "it's not "listcruft", whatever that means").
What is the appropriate action to take, if any? I don't believe these articles belong, I don't think they can be brought into line with policy and protocol; I think they ought to be deleted. But I don't know if there's much good to be done by reopening a closed debate, even if the standing conclusion seems to have been based on very shaky ground. I would appreciate your thoughts; I'm asking one or two other admins, as well. Thanks! — Scheinwerfermann T· C20:23, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

You recently reverted the changes I made to the above mentioned article, siting vandalism as the reason.
I now kindly refer you a statement given on the vandalism page: "Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism. Even harmful edits that are not explicitly made in bad faith are not considered vandalism. For example, adding a controversial personal opinion to an article once is not vandalism; reinserting it despite multiple warnings is. Not all vandalism is obvious, nor are all massive or controversial changes vandalism. Careful attention may need to be given to whether changes made are beneficial, detrimental but well-intended, or outright vandalism."
Certainly my edit qualifies as a good-faith effort and not vandalism. If someone believes my addition of Bauck to the famous people from Curacao list is unwarranted, then a discussion should ensue, but certainly I should not be labeled as a vandal.
I've been continuously re-changing the undoes, but the only other comment that was made was that his notoriety was not evident. So perhaps you removed my change due to the fact that it had been removed before. So I ask, what qualifies as evident notoriety? Surely BalusC qualifies. Any search engine anywhere will quickly reveal him as notable. Also note that his notoriety is equal to those also mentioned on the list.

Thanks for the welcome back. It was news to me too, I hadn't logged in to Wikipedia for a while and decided to get editing, then I found I was blocked. I don't know if somebody got my password, or I left a session open, but I changed my password and got one of the nice admins to recover my account :) Message from XENU u, t 20:33, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
I do not want FrancisLightHouse to be on Wikipedia. And FrancisLightHouse's account is blocked and if the account is block from adding than it should not be in Wikipedia please be nice and remove all content that has to due with FrancisLightHouse.( FLHWEB ( talk) 23:50, 26 November 2008 (UTC))

Not at all, rather an honest question to my dear Mr. Vandalism Destroyer. In light of his name and page contents, the question seems pertinent. And given your swift reaction, Sir Knight, one may put the same query to you. 86.45.6.82 ( talk) 01:30, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
How is ! an inappropriate username? Can you explain why Wikipedia considers it inappropriate? -- IRP ☎ 02:11, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
At the top I read that he is being considered for being deleted? For real? He needs to get off wikipedia and needs to get blocked or somethign because he deleted my article and I am not happy. You know what J. delanoy stay out of my business. And you wikipedia Admins should delete the account of this idiot because he does not know what he is doing.

That trial does not seem fake to me. But I wish it was real, at least that way we could get stupid users off of wikipedia. Shame if what he said was correct.
Blackeyedfool12
Mind your own business David. Stay out of it. We can figure it out on our own.
Blackeyedfool12
Why don't you just stay out of the conflict? You obviously have better things to do. And I should report you for being nosy. NOW STAY OUT OF THE CONFLICT!

Look David, I have tried to be civil with you. We can sort it out on our own and we do not need your intervention. I only violated one policy at worst, personal attacks. Nosiness may not be an issue on wikipedia, but it is in life in general. I am sick of this silly fight and just admit that you lost because you already have. Now leave me alone, or I WILL report you for harassment.

Okay then, you can't delete accounts, just don't erase any of my articles like you did with Kel Davies. I now realize it is just a parody, fine. By the way, David did a really poor job so no need to thank him. I will not insult you if you do not erase my articles.

Well, he is more important than the average person or John Doe, but not as important as Martin Luther King Jr. for example. He does play COD4. People want to know this stuff. The fact that he is such a solid player is why he is important to 6 Billion People

I am thankful that I have a family and friends to have a joyful meal with this Thanksgiving. I am also thankful to have found some good role models for how to contribute meaningfully to Wikipedia, such as yourself. Hi, JD. Listen, I think we may have a bit of a storm brewing. I'm not hollering for intervention just yet, but I'd like to get your thoughts on how best to handle this editor if s/he proves difficult to cool down and get pointed in the right direction. I know you are more experienced on Wikipedia than me, but you forgot to sign
here! I was looking through the pages so I can add notes about contributions. Best Regards,

You deleted the article for the film Call This a Cry for Help, because you claim it has no noteriety or legitimacy. Well, as linked on the page, this film is included on IMDb and has recently become available on Amazon for purchase on DVD and Amazon Unbox. It debuted at the first annual Independent Features film festival, which was the very first entirely online international film festival EVER. The film played for an entire month and was seen by people all over the world. This film is a registered, copywritten movie that has a copy stored in the Library of Congress. If these things don't make this film notable and legitimate then I don't know what does. Please do the right thing and return this page to where it belongs. This is Wikipedia, information is king. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Director14ty ( talk • contribs) 16:05, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I am interested in your opinion on this little dispute. IMHO the user seems to have an antipathy against all things Japanese. Whatever, I do not know how to deal with the Korean language section which basically renders the exclusive interpretation to Korean speakers, complicating a simple matter. Can you please explain your reason for reverting my edit to pulmonary contusion? It was an improvement, not vandalism, and I left an edit summary. I certainly understand reasonable people may disagree over a stylistic change (or in this case a stylistic change which included fixing an incredibly poorly worded sentence that started with a list and ended with what the list was for; a stylistic abomination, as well as a completely incorrect part of speech, "requisite", being used where "required" was meant. I do not understand such reversion without explanation. I know you get a lot of vandalism on Wikipedia from ip users, but you really need to look at edits before blindly reverting or at least provide some clue of your reasoning for reverting an obvious good faith edit that makes sense. 151.202.35.71 ( talk) 04:27, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Whilst doing some housekeeping on my watchlist, I came across this duplicate title, and saw that Hindu-German Conspiracy has been redirected to Hindu–German Conspiracy, with, it seems an n-dash, rather than a hyphen. Is this correct? I thought we used hyphens in titles of this type. If not, I know of a number of others that also need to be moved. --- RepublicanJacobite The'FortyFive' 00:33, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

If you open this page, you will see a countless amount of bad faith accounts (the ones with all of those exclamation marks) towards the top of the list, giving their userpages a higher visibility, and give us extra searching before we finally get to the first good faith user. I think the list should put the blocked users at the end. -- IRP ☎ 18:04, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

adds 19:24, 29 November 2008 (UTC)I am wondering why this page I created was deleted. It was not in violation of 'speedy deletion' rule A7. The rule states that "...to avoid speedy deletion an article does not have to prove that its subject is notable, just give a reasonable indication of why it might be notable."
The article that I created states "Kevinandbradyproductions's channel has over 1000 views and the 2 creators have achieved fame at South Middle School in Nampa, Idaho." I am wondering 1. why this doesn't conform to rule A7 and 2. what do I need to do to make it wikipedia-worthy.
Thanks!

As you seem to have become a semi-mentor to IRP, can you keep an eye on this situation, which I just noticed (his talkpage is still watchlisted from my conversation with him last week). While I've posted a (hopefully not too rude) "please stop" notice, I don't want to start with the full-blown scaremongering myself – after our exchange of views last week, it might look like I'm stalking him – but I don't think he realises just how much trouble he's going to get in very quickly if he decides to make himself the self-appointed arbiter of what can and can't be on userpages (quite aside from the spectacular show of bad faith shown in "I have removed this article from your list of achievements, as I don't believe that you were the one who wrote it"). He's obviously here in good faith, but he doesn't seem to understand how Wikipedia works, and he'll probably listen to the explanation better from you than from me – and while it may seem a bit rude, it's far better for him to get warnings and explanations now, than to suddenly find himself blocked should he try something like this with someone less patient. – iride scent 19:10, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
