Sept 7, 12:30pm: Met Fashion Edit-a-thon @ Metropolitan Museum of Art

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for Met Fashion Edit-a-thon @ Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side. Together, we'll expand Wikipedia:WikiProject Fashion topics for basic clothing types that can be illustrated by the Met collection, and also past Costume Institute exhibitions! It's the last weekend for Camp: Notes on Fashion, and we will have an intro talk to the exhibit by a guest from the Costume Institute, and participants will then be able to visit it on their own. Galleries will be open this evening until 9 pm. With refreshments, and there will be a wiki-cake! Open to everyone at all levels of experience, wiki instructional workshop and one-on-one support will be provided. Hi David, when you get a moment can you tell me if you think this source is ok? It doesn't fix both of the last 2 comicbook.com sources I need to replace but it has a list of all the actors/characters on it so if it is acceptable I can use it to replace at least one more comicbook.com ref. Hey Darkwarriorblake, I don't think that fits as a high-quality reliable source either. They're relatively new, they don't have a set editorial control, and a quick look didn't turn up significant mentions or referrals by other RS that would suggest it be considered in the same vein. Hi David, It's always a bit disconcerting to see someone who has been involved in an RfC requesting specific admins to close that RfC, as happened here. If you are going to close the discussion—and I am sure that you will be scrupulously neutral when you approach this—please could you delay the close until Friday 13? Bishonen has asked that this is "a proper RFC, running for the normal time", which is 30 days. I would hate for wikilawyering to be introduced for it 'only' to have been running for 28 or 29 days. Epicgenius—at some point. It's a 2020 priority right now; I'm still waiting on two books from the NYPL and I have another article I want to try and get FA this year, and I'm seeing if I can get some free period imagery out of the NY records department. Guild of Copy Editors September 2019 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the September newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2019. June election: Reidgreg was chosen as lead coordinator, and is being assisted by Baffle gab1978, Miniapolis, Tdslk, and first-time coordinator Twofingered Typist. Jonesey95 took a respite after serving for six years. Thanks to everyone who participated! June Blitz: From 16 to 22 June, we copy edited articles on the themes of nature and the environment along with requests. 12 participating editors completed 35 copy edits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. July Drive: The year's fourth backlog-elimination drive was a great success, clearing all articles tagged in January and February, and bringing the copy-editing backlog to a low of five months and a record low of 585 articles while also completing 48 requests. Of the 30 people who signed up, 29 copyedited at least one article, a participation level last matched in May 2015. Final results and awards are listed here. August Blitz: From 18 to 24 August, we copy edited articles tagged in March 2019 and requests. 12 participating editors completed 26 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: As of 03:00, 23 September 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors had processed 413 requests since 1 January. The backlog of tagged articles stood at 599 articles, close to our record month-end low of 585. Requests page: We are experimenting with automated archiving of copy edit requests; a discussion on REQ Talk (permalinked) initiated by Bobbychan193 has resulted in Zhuyifei1999 writing a bot script for the Guild. Testing is now underway and is expected to be completed by 3 October; for this reason, no manual archiving of requests should be done until the testing period is over. We will then assess the bot's performance and discuss whether to make this arrangement permanent. The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday November 16, 2019 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. The museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse Asian collections onsite and remotely. Asia Art Archive will host a sister event in Hong Kong next week. Hey David. You are probably one of the few people who has managed to get video game-related books to quality standards. I am trying to improve the Masters of Doom article but I have no real clue how to write for book articles. Can I get some advice? GamerPro64 04:54, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

@ GamerPro64: It's not much different than video game articles, really. Background, content, reception, legacy, etc. I think what you've currently got in the article is great and a good skeleton to build up from; I have comments about specific aspects but the overall structure seems great. I'd say just keep doing what you're doing. If you want a Peer Review or whatnot down the line when it's more developed, ping me and I'll be happy to chime in. Hi, can you explain to me why is section "Influence on the MOBA genre" removed? I want to understand criteria. Influence on the MOBA genre is the one of the biggest parts of DotA legacy. EchoBlu ( talk) 14:18, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

@ EchoBlu: I'm open to the idea that there should be a subsection for that discussion (although I'd argue it's unnecessary given the "legacy" heading and how there's not really a huge amount of additional content to fill a subsection with,) but the problem was you were adding material not attributable to the cited sources already in the article. You are telling me that I added sentences which are not in the references? That can be fixed. Now I want to point out few things. (1) I don't like paragraph when Wikipedia call HoN "Dota clone" without any explanation, even simple one, so I added simple explanation. (2) Second thing, I wanted to point out that HotS is not just another MOBA "with array of heroes", but MOBA with Warcraft characters, which is importand to say, because success of "Warcraft World Editor inspired MOBA" (DotA), was inspiration for Blizzard to create their own, but with actual licence for all Warcraft heroes. (3) "Guinsoo...", ok we all know who is Guinso, but subsection needs to point out that both "original creator", and IceFrog went to other companies and developed two most popular MOBAs in this decade. I pointed out that some big DotA developers had direct influence on the MOBA genre; it was not just DotA as a game which inspired other developers/publishers). The problem is, for a featured article, there is literally nothing serious about DotA influence on the whole decade, and the most popular genre on planet (even after 10 years). There is only one paragraph where it says "HoN is dota clone. (period)" "Blizzard released HotS with array of Blizzard heroes (period)." I tried to create some foundation with few very important points, which can be expanded later - I didn't just add random material to make paragraph bigger. If you have high-quality, reliable sources that discuss DotA's legacy in an overarching manner, we can incorporate them. And yes, I mean that you're adding material that's not cited; it's incredibly damaging to do that because it gives the illusion that it's supported by other content when it's not. Guild of Copy Editors December 2019 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the December 2019 GOCE newsletter, an update of Guild happenings since the September edition. Our Annual Report should be ready in late January. Election time: Nominations for the election of a new tranche of Guild coordinators to serve for the first half of 2020 will be open from 1 to 15 December. Voting will then take place and the election will close on 31 December at 23:59 UTC. Positions for Guild coordinators, who perform the important behind-the-scenes tasks that keep our project running smoothly, are open to all Wikipedians in good standing. We welcome self-nominations so please consider nominating yourself if you've ever thought about helping out; it's your Guild and it doesn't run itself! September Drive: Of the thirty-two editors who signed up, twenty-three editors copy edited at least one article; they completed 39 requests and removed 138 articles from the backlog, bringing the backlog to a low of 519 articles. October Blitz: This event ran from 13 to 19 October, with themes of science, technology and transport articles tagged for copy edit, and Requests. Sixteen editors helped remove 29 articles from the backlog and completed 23 requests. November Drive: Of the twenty-eight editors who signed up for this event, twenty editors completed at least one copy edit; they completed 29 requests and removed 133 articles from the backlog. Our December Blitz will run from 15 to 21 December. Sign up now! Progress report: From September to November 2019, GOCE copy editors processed 154 requests. Over the same period, the backlog of articles tagged for copy editing was reduced by 41% to an all-time low of 479 articles. Request archiving: The archiving of completed requests has now been automated. Thanks to Zhuyifei1999 and Bobbychan193, YiFeiBot is now archiving the Requests page. Archiving occurs around 24 hours after a user's signature and one of the templates {{ Done}}, {{ Withdrawn}} or {{ Declined}} are placed below the request. The bot uses the Guild's standard "purpose codes" to determine the way it should archive each request so it's important to use the correct codes and templates. Hello there! I saw that you were listed as one of the Featured Article mentors and I wanted to see if you would be able to guide me in potentially bringing a film article to Featured status? I expanded it to Good Article status in October I believe, and it has since received a copy-edit per the reviewer's suggestion. But 1.) I've never submitted an article as Featured before and 2.) I wanted someone to be sure it's ready to even be submitted.

Hello David!

I've addressed most of the peer review issues for the article on Roar, which means I have also added content from Tippi: a Memoir, and "The Cats of Shambala". I also added references to characters in the cast, as well as removing the Daily Mail source and added a couple of new sources that I think are reliable, but tell me what you think and as always if there are any problems let me know in the peer review or my talk page.

Hi there, on the Xbox 360 downloadable version of Halo 1 (Original Xbox) there's a higher resolution and brighter version of the Halo CE boxart. It's 292 x 400, so it's not much better, but it is official. Otherwise you could consider finding a high resolution scan of the game's printed art.

I find the complaints lodged against Kudpung to be so weak that they're laughable. I also find your assessment of Kudpung's behavior unreasonable and your decision to remove his mop unmerited. While I have great respect for our admins that remain polite and unflappable in every circumstance, I think that attitude is neither required nor reasonable for all admins. While you may think that you protected this project by punishing Kudpung or preventing personal attacks, your actions today have only played into the hands of a certain clique of editors who took advantage of this opportunity to remove an obstacle to their plans. As suggested by the title, I need some clarifications on two items from the Pokemon GA review. The first is when you say "Things like contractions, when outside quotes, shouldn't be used as too informal ("it wouldn't release")," what do you mean by "used as too informal" and "("it wouldn't release")? @ ShalomSir: No problem. Sorry if I wasn't clear. My general comment was to avoid informal language per the Manual of Style; we don't use stuff like slang or contractions outside of quoted material; "it wouldn't release" is an example from the article. In terms of citations, you have some citations where the website is italicized, some where it's not, others where the website is capitalized (Nintendo Life), others where it is not or has the TLD suffix (nintendoeverything.com) Some references don't have publisher/website information at all, some have only the publisher, some have only the website but not the publisher. These are generally not the main issues in terms of content, but just general stylistic stuff that adds polish (as well as making things like checking references easier.) Hope that explains better. Guild of Copy Editors March 2020 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2019. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2020, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. Election results: There was little changeover in the roster of Guild Coordinators, with Miniapolis stepping down with distinction as a coordinator emeritus while Jonesey95 returned as lead coordinator. The next election is scheduled for June 2020 and all Wikipedians in good standing may participate. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work, completing 215 copy edits including 56 articles from the Requests page and 116 backlog articles from the target months of June to August 2019. At the conclusion of the drive there was a record low of 323 articles in the copy editing backlog. Of the 27 editors who signed up for the drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. February Blitz: Of the 15 editors who signed up for this one-week blitz, 13 completed at least one copy edit. A total of 32 articles were copy edited, evenly split between the twin goals of requests and the oldest articles from the copy-editing backlog. Full results are here. March Drive: Currently underway, this event is targeting requests and backlog articles from September to November 2019. As of 18 March, the backlog stands at a record low of 253 articles and is expected to drop further as the drive progresses. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Help set a new record and sign up now! Progress report: As of 18 March, GOCE copyeditors have completed 161 requests in 2020 and there was a net reduction of 385 articles from the copy-editing backlog – a 60% decrease from the beginning of the year. Well done and thank you everyone! Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. That has provided a certain amount of income for me, as well as freedom, to pursue my writing goals as well as to just be able to pretty much be with myself and by myself. I have been coming down here since November and I kept coming back because it was like sitting on an oil well and it was just gushing and gushing, the amount of money I was making." I stated, "The money that I earned over pretty much the decade was just money for me to live comfortably, for me to travel, for me to do things in my personal life like laser hair removal, which cost thousands of dollars". Also mentioned, "I am working on my memoir "Shooting Range". Sometimes I will get a grant here and there. I enter writing competitions. Now I will be entering a whole lot more of those. I do agree with your statement that these references being used don't appear to support the text “(In 2001 she moved to Fort Greene and worked for The Bachelor Pad and Trace (magazine) on The Black Girls Rock issue is cited to [1], Starting in 2002, Anderson spent over a decade honing her seduction and copywriting skills as a sex worker soliciting clients by advertising erotic massage in the LA XPress newspaper and on Eros, Craigslist and Backpage. is cited to [2], neither appear to mention Anderson”. Although I am not a notable writer, I am a notable artist. I hope you will reconsider deleting my wiki article. I did see the Bronx Times and Denver Voice articles, but the threshold for inclusion is significant coverage in reliable sources, and as local outfits I hesitate to call them reliable for the threshold of inclusion. Ultimately I disagree that there's enough for general notability guideline. Not meeting that threshold shouldn't be seen as a slight, nor is your awards list any denigration of your achievements. Hello Sir Madam, Greetings!

I noticed that "User: Joanrivers" only created an account just to attack wikipedia pages. His first edit was to nominate this page for deletion. He even added (2nd nomination) and went ahead to vandalize the page removing some references and also nominated another pages for deletion.

This is quite sad and discouraging for me at this time of COVID-19 crisis. Is this how the English wikipedia platform works?

Hello! I wanted to reach out to you regarding the pictures for the following Star Trek film articles: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and Star Trek Generations. As I believe you know, they all have the poster art alone for their infobox pictures. According to the "Image" section of the Template:Infobox film page, it states the following: "Ideally, an image of the film's original theatrical release poster should be uploaded and added to the infobox to serve as an identifying image for the article." Because of this guideline, I'm a little confused as to why these films need special treatment to just have the pieces of art instead of the theatrical release posters with titles, credits, taglines, etc. Is there a good reason (even a WP policy) that supports these articles to have the art instead of a theatrical poster? User:StrangeloveFan101: Theatrical posters can vary drastically from location to location, whereas the poster art (at least for the Trek films) was and is the most common element across multiple regions, as well as home media; it's arguably the strongest piece of material to serve the non-free content criteria fair use rationales of "aiding identification". You can't actually read any of the credits and rarely even taglines on a poster block when shrunk to the size allowed by NFCC, so I don't know why those would be prioritized. {{ Infobox film}} isn't itself a policy or guideline.
