Hi,
I posted an article that was dictated by the actual person who began the company called Simplex Go-karts.
AngelleVW ( talk) 19:26, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
I was told the article is an UNAMBIGUOUS AD. I don't see how this is an ad. Am I to leave out parts of the real history? I'm confused since all of the article is based on verifiable facts.
Here is this article INCLUDING the sources.

In 1972, Mr. William John Jacobs, Jr. purchased a dune buggy for his three sons for Christmas. At the time, he told his sons that their responsibility was to buy the fuel and do all maintenance on the new dune buggy. In the beginning of 1973, William Mitch Jacobs and his brothers, Richard T. Jacobs and Mark S. Jacobs, created a sand track across the street from their home and began charging for rides. Within weeks, the dune buggy needed work. Mr. Jacobs, Sr. asked how the repairs were going to be funded. At which time, Richard T. Jacobs presented $90.00. Mr. Jacobs, Sr. asked his son, Richard where he got the money. All 3 sons were questioned in great length regarding the funds which was in the possession of Richard T. Jacobs. Richard T. Jacobs explained how the brothers came up with the idea of charging for rides. Much to Mr. Jacobs, Sr.'s surprise, the funds of the brothers was able to pay for the welding. When he realized that each son had $90.00, it was the beginning of the concept for the family to profit from this business. Mr. Jacobs' father-in-law, Mr. Louis M. Philips was the owner-operator at that time of an amusement company using pool tables, juke boxes, shuffle boards, and slot machines. Putting this together, Mr. Jacobs, Sr. realized this was an enormous business opportunity. In May of 1973, William John Jacobs, Jr., began a dirt track using tri-cats and dune buggies. Within a short period of time, he realized the safety and maintenance was impossible. Looking for an alternative, with a bit of research, he met Mr. Paul Treen, Sr. where he purchased 6 go-karts. Here is where Mr. Jacobs discovered the engine had to be replaced every three months and clutches, chains, and sprockets had to be replaced every 2 weeks. Frames had to be welded on a daily basis. The steal bumpers had to be bent out with a maul every 2-3 times a turns. In August of 1973, he then opened the first concession go-kart track in the Greater New Orleans area in Chalmette, Louisiana, called the Chalmette 500. This was operated and managed by his oldest son, William M. Jacobs at the age of 17 years old. William M. Jacobs, known as Mitch Jacobs was an integral part of operating the concession go-kart tracks. Mr. Jacobs, Sr., later opened the Fat City 500 in Metairie, Louisiana, which Mitch Jacobs also operated for the family. Richard T. Jacobs and Mark Steven Jacobs took over the operation and management of the Chalmette 500 at that time. In the later part of 1973, William M. Jacobs (Mitch) worked side by side with Mr. Paul Treen, Sr. and his staff for a period of 6 months, learning all aspects of the building and manufacturing of go-karts before Mr. William John Jacobs, Jr. bought the company from Mr. Paul Treen. In 1974, Mr. William J.Jacobs, Jr., opened the Fat City 500 in Metairie which Mitch Jacobs also operated for the family. William J. Jacobs, Jr. and William Mitch Jacobs created the portable go-kart track using automobile tires and chains to outline the track. This was implemented as a set up for church fairs and empty part king lots. William Mitch Jacobs, along with brothers, Richard T. Jacobs and Mark S. Jacobs operated these portable go-kart tracks around Southern Louisiana. In 1976, Mr. William J. Jacobs, Jr. purchased Simplex Go Kart manufacturing Company. He was the innovator of spring steel bumpers, the first of its kind in the history of go-karts manufacturing. Patents for this bumper remained elusive because a similar bumper was used in the Model-T Ford, which Mr. Jacobs drove when he was younger. Also, during that year, Mr. Jacobs began using air craft type tie-rod ends and heavy duty 3/4" front ends along with the square tubing frame for the commercial go-kart market. Mr. Jacobs added the steering pad for added safety. The Bendix brakes were then incorporated into the design for the same reason. He created solid steel throttle linkage for his designs in go-karts. At that time, Mr. William Mitch Jacobs incorporated these ideas into the design as the plant foreman, training all members of his staff in this new manufacturing of go-karts. In in 1977, Mr. Jacobs was the first to use a Honda engine on a go-kart. Mr. Jacobs sold 2,000 engines in one year, which inspired Honda to send for Mr. Jacobs, Sr. as a consultant on the Honda engine. Several unique ideas by Mr. Jacobs were incorporated and used by Honda improving its engines. In 1979, Mr. William John Jacobs, Sr., sold the manufacturing company to John Krauss. In 1980, Mr. Kruass died and his wife, Carolyn Krauss took over the company. She operated the company until it was sold to Mr. Keith Coleman in 1982. When Mr. Keith Coleman purchased the company from Carolyn Kruass, he closed the go-kart division and sold the name to Manco Industries, a rival go -kart manufacturer. Hello Cordless Larry, Great thanks for your reply, I will use all links, which you kindly supplied, and hope, that soon I will be able to orientate in 'Wikipedia Jungle' much more better. In relation to UTC (I think, that some people have smiled about that), to clarify this subject I am sending you a message, which I already sent to the talk page of the person (DESiegel), to whom my gratitude (on Teahouse talk page) has been addressed:
I do not know how it happened, but I wrote UTC, instead of your initials DES! It’s been a day without even smallest break from the hustle and bustle, and I'm sure it was not the only one my blunder during that day, and I'm sure you know how it is, when you found yourself in the middle of ten urgent matters and they all are "first on the list". So, I think, you will understand me. Of course, my gratitude was addressed to you, as your warm welcome and clear explanation was a really good thing; and when (right now) I “went” to the Teahouse and noticed my silly mistake, I just said: “Oh, God.”
I'll be always glad to hear from you and to read your words of approval or criticism on my future article (s), as I know, that it always will be unbiased, friendly and intelligent conclusion.
P.S. Should I sent this message to Teahouse to correct my blunder?
As I haven't received a reply from DES so far, I haven't sent this text to the Teahouse.
I am still thinking about writing something about ancient Corinth, but obviously it will be just adding of some facts and several photos to the existing article. I will be glad to notify you about that, when it will be done.

hi and thank you once again gallant knight Sir Cordless Larry. I must say it surprised me that anyone cared about a nearly non-existent newby and I had dashed off mildly harmed by a user calling himself Dennis who deleted my user page in Wikipedia Commons. in fact he deleted every image I posted and wikipedia, once a wonderland, nearly anarchic but "not an experiment" in such, became a hinterland and I was banished from Commons {bot warned not to attempt to re-animate my userpage in commons-topia. and there is my tale of woa/whoa. Of course you reverted my change. You don't know what you're doing. Allow me to elaborate:
I changed a portion of text beneath a subheading entitled "Support for the war" which provides, in pertinent part: "Support for the war[edit source | edit] Support for the Kosovan War and, in particular, the legitimacy of NATO's bombing campaign came from a variety of sources. In a 2009 article, David Clark claimed "Every member of NATO, every EU country, and most of Yugoslavia's neighbours, supported military action"[156] with statements from the leaders of Bill Clinton, Václav Havel and Tony Blair respectively describing the war as, "an attack by tanks and artillery on a largely defenceless people whose leaders already have agreed to peace,"[157] "the first war for values"[156] and one "to avert what would otherwise be a humanitarian disaster in Kosovo.".[158] Others included the then U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan who was reported by some sources as acknowledging that the NATO action was legitimate[159] who emphasised that there were times when the use of force was legitimate in the pursuit of peace[160] though Annan stressed that the "Council should have been involved in any decision to use force."[160] The distinction between the legality and legitimacy of the intervention was further highlighted in two separate reports.
As I hope is apparent to you, the war they are talking about is the response of NATO and its EU allies to the Serbian "ethnic cleansing" of the Albanians living in Kosovo. That is what is meant by the quote attributed to Tony Blair "to avert what would otherwise be a humanitarian disaster in Kosovo." Now we look at the text before my change: "… with statements from the leaders of Bill Clinton, Václav Havel and Tony Blair respectively describing the war as, "an attack by tanks and artillery on a largely defenceless people whose leaders already have agreed to peace,"[157] "the first war for values"[156] and one "to avert what would otherwise be a humanitarian disaster in Kosovo.".[158]"
I hope you can see that the war they are talking about is the war of intervention by NATO and not the war by the Serbians against the Kosovo Albanians. This is made abundantly clear if you would have bothered to read the quote attributed to President Clinton in context. Let me Google that for you:
"The Serbian leaders, on the other hand, refused even to discuss key elements of the peace agreement. As the Kosovars were saying yes to peace, Serbia stationed 40,000 troops in and around Kosovo in preparation for a major offensive—and in clear violation of the commitments they had made. Now they've started moving from village to village, shelling civilians and torching their houses. We've seen innocent people taken from their homes, forced to kneel in the dirt, and sprayed with bullets; Kosovar men dragged from their families, fathers and sons together, lined up and shot in cold blood. is not war in the traditional sense. It is an attack by tanks and artillery on a largely defenseless people whose leaders already have agreed to peace." [1]
I hope it is abundantly clear that the text attributed to President Clinton was describing the bad acts of the Serbians against the Albanians as a reason for US intervention in support of its security interests as described by President Clinton more fully in text before that quoted in the preceding paragraph. President Clinton in no way uttered those words in support of US intervention.
CAN YOU SEE THAT. I apologize for my tone if English is not your first language.
PS: I have my Wikipedia setting set for to receive emails when, for example, like this, someone rewrote someone my changes. I appreciate your thanks for my contribution at Talk:Louis Giordano. Trying to save new and draft articles created by people with (disclosed or otherwise) COI issues is one of my hobbies at Wikipedia, and it's mostly thankless because the majority of editors would rather push an article lacking sufficient references towards deletion than check to see whether sources to support the article exist. (And that's okay; none of us has the time to do everything.) When evaluating whether to devote my time to a given artical, I use the unofficial yardstick of, can I envision a person unconnected with the subject wanting to read a Wikipedia article about it/them? I don't know a whole lot about UFC or other fighting sport, so I gave the article the benefit of the doubt that a UFC fan might hear about a trainer who worked with a particular fighter and want to know who else he had worked with. I will spend many hours working on articles not likely to pass AfC review without help from an experienced editor. As I said over there, though, this is apparently not a case where my help would do any good. Anyway I'll stop rambling on your page now! — GrammarFascist contribs talk 22:03, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

It makes little sense for someone to say that "every time" they do something another editor "keeps deleting it" if they have only once ever done it. If other accounts had previously done the same thing and been reverted by the editor who is said to "keep deleting it", then it is difficult to avoid the impression that the same editor has used more than one account. When that also comes on top of other evidence of sockpuppetry, including more than one CheckUser stating that there is technical evidence connecting the accounts, then the sockpuppetry becomes clear beyond any reasonable doubt, in my opinion. I regard "every time I try ... someone ... keeps deleting it" as "clearly and without any doubt at all" an indication that the editor has done it more than once, and since the account she claims is her only account has done it only once, it is "clearly and without any doubt at all" an indication that the editor has used more than one account. hi sorry to interrupt but I couldn't help but overhear this conversation about sockpuppetry. Cordless, if I may be so bold as to call you that, am I correct in assuming that a sock puppeteer is someone with multiple accounts [pretending to be more than one person obvs]? I am confounded how I was pulled in to the sock discussion on another page, so if you would be kind enough to translate: "It makes no sense to register so all the deranged monkeys can throw shit at another foolish editor who joined the community of nutters like User:Lightbreather who has long used her backup sock User:Darknipples (obvious as hell by all the gun ban propaganda she promotes and coming on the scene first when LB thought she could be banned and was temporarily and now has a new backup sock User:Asdiprizio which will in time edit gun articles but LB knows her recent permanent ban is to fresh to start promoting her anti-gun agenda through another sock. PS Do not edit others talk page duechebag. Addendum: Sorry to the lunatics who edit here and who are able to support themselves. " what does this mean and what is being accused and who and am I target and does this help explain why my user page from wiki commons was deleted after I submitted (on wiki commons) my drawing of you and others (cordless larry drawing) with a creative commons license? sorry for being a bother, I don't mean to be needy and thank you again friend. You have been helpful so far in my quest to get each of my six students to follow up on filling in a Wiki-stub. You commented a week or so ago.
Thank you for your reflections on the possibilities.
I would like to be more specific. The entries that I am suggesting are for existing stubs (except for one, and she's my best student who has found something amazing that Wiki should probably have stubbed already). They will each be about 10-15 sentences of data, perhaps a public domain photo and reference links.
In each case, there is some existing in-text reference to these stubs.
John Kidwell, credited with the introduction of the pineapple industry to Hawaii.
Count Me In Acoustic (2015) is the most recent album from Rebellion.
Sheikh Omar is credited with being the discoverer of coffee.
Congenital leptin deficiency is a nutritional issue just getting traction.
Big Kettle Mountain is near Penn State.
At the end of the The Lion King, a cub is held up. Much has been written about that cub but there is no entry in Wiki.
Each student has about a month to get a short piece written in Wiki-style. Does this added information help?
Would you be willing to guide any of these students if they contacted you through Teahouse or directly?

I wanted to update the graph you made of asylum applicants to the UK up to 2014. The original data has disappeared into gov.uk and the government has passed over the collection of stats to Eurostat which only publishes monthly figures. I've totted these up for 2008 to 2015/9.
The 2008 figure don't exactly tie in - they only give first time applicants not total for 2008, though the difference isn't great.
Can you update your graph? If you don't have the time, I could do it though finding the data on the NSO website is a pain so if you can give me the original figures it would help. Chris55 ( talk) 10:45, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

You know much more about current and historical usage concerning ethnicity than I do. I wonder if you'd care to join the discussion at Talk:Maus/Archive 1#best terms for groups of people? I should warn you, there's just been a difficult discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#POV-pushing abuse of sourcing at Maus but the tone at Talk:Maus is now much milder and more constructive, and I suspect your participation would help keep it that way. I understand your comment about the lack of specific mention of Mirpur but my edit was more relevant to the current situation of forced marriages than the original statements which you possibly didn't notice had weakness of sources too! eg "According to the British Home Office, as of 2000, more than half the cases of forced marriage investigated involve families of Pakistani origin, followed by Bangladeshis and Indians."The reference given gives no mention of Mirpur. "The Home Office estimates that 85 per cent of the victims of forced marriages are women aged 15–24, 90 per cent are Muslim, and 90 per cent are of Pakistani or Bangladeshi heritage" has a reference which has no mention of Mirpur or even of Azad Kashmir. Maybe you would prefer to remove the whole paragraph? The quoted sources are no better than mine and less relevant in 2015. Thanks for your attetion...quality should be maintained in this Wiki. Cordless Larry, I agree that I have had to go overwhelmingly to the source material (the Stevens and Sears catalogs that actually sold these shotguns) but there is no secondary material in print or on the web that details the development of this John Browning design. The main secondary source in print "Savage & Stevens Arms: Collector's History, 5th Edition" is mostly a compilation of old catalog pages and it has no useful information on this shotgun, the authors interest seems to be rifle production. I'm working on getting some out of print books that may help. The secondary sources that do mention this shotgun all provide conflicting information. This stems from Stevens and Savage destroying their records after WWI and WWII to escape prosecution for war profiteering. I've written an ID guide for this shotgun on a Gun Values Board blog but I specifically didn't source any of my findings that were not verifiable in a professionally printed publication, I know original research is a no-no. How do you suggest I proceed? Keydet92 ( talk) 16:22, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

I don't really know how to find the person who made the reversion and look at their talk page afterwards.
Is there any way you could file an SPI on the editors with the muscle names? I'm on my phone and SPI is way too awkward to do from here. Be sure to request a CU, as, due to the subject matter of their questions, I suspect block evasion. Thanks. John from Idegon ( talk) 19:47, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

On 3 December 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Circuit des Champs de Bataille, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Circuit des Champs de Bataille, a stage race held across devastated northern France, Belgium and Luxembourg in spring 1919, has been described as the toughest cycle race in history? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Circuit des Champs de Bataille. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page ( here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
