“I remember the old northern legend of how God created the taiga while he was still a child. There were few colors, but they were childishly fresh and vivid, and their subjects were simple. Later, when God grew up and became an adult, he learned to cut out complicated patterns from his pages and created many bright birds. God grew bored with his former child's world and he threw snow on his forest creation and went south forever.” Varlam Shalamov |

INCHBOLD, John William: His poetry is probably more attractive than his painting.
HUNT, William Howes: His work is good enough to make one wish that it were better.
PEPPERCORN, Alfred Douglas: All in all, he is a very dull artist.
PATON, Sir Joseph Noel: His work was immensely popular with the laity, less so among artists.
MORTIMER, Thomas: He is sometimes miscatalogued as ‘F. Mortimer”, due to a large full stop between initial and surname.
MORTIMER John Hamilton: After a wild youth, he married a farmer’s daughter. Sober living seems to have been too much for his constitution, for he died within four years.
MARTIN, Jonathan: (Brother of John Martin (painter)) His most notable act was setting fire to York Minster.
MARKES, Albert Ernest: He drank a great deal, and was colour-blind, and both handicaps are evident in his work, which is dominated by grey-greens and highlights slashed into the paper with a knife.
Poor Mortimer - never marry a farmers daughter. Just see what happened to Rafael - who had kept a baker's daughter as a lover... Hafspajen ( talk) 23:08, 22 November 2014 (UTC) MARTIN, Jonathan:must have been an early performance artist... MARKES, Albert Ernest too, obviously. Hafspajen ( talk) 23:12, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi Xanthomelanoussprog. I noticed you've chimed in on a couple posts of mine on user:Drmies' Talk page regarding my sponsored contributions. A quick look at your contribs also shows some collaboration with user:Crisco 1492, whos Talk page I'm a regular on, but it looked like your primary interest was in art pages?
I was wondering if you had an interest in chipping in on stuff like this and this on pages where I have a COI. The first being a draft article intended to get the page ready for a "Good Article" nomination and review, while the second is some obviously poorly-sourced material cited to a crowd-sourced review site.
Noting that your interests (at a glance) looks to be in art, as oppose to the types of business pages I usually work on, I wasn't sure if you'd like to chip in on this stuff or not. CorporateM ( Talk) 01:58, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, just sat through a two-hour film in a crowded cinema thinking "I wish the b… actors would get out of the way of the scenery". Kevin Kline is now banned from my talk page. Anyway, what it should mean is that the pigments used are the same chemicals as would have been used in the 16th century, however the trace impurity of silver that should be in the lead is missing. Silver is commonly found associated with lead in lead ore- modern methods of extraction remove the silver, hence lead white without silver is modern. With regards to the chalk (this is presumably used in the priming of the painting) the chalk is too finely milled to be authentic. Hope that's a bit clearer- thanks very much for going through the article. Xanthomelanoussprog ( talk) 21:42, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
CorinneSD ( talk) 03:48, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
I'm not sure either- I included it as a statement of fact rather than a sign of guilt. Part of the problem may be that I'm trying to keep away from having the article say Goller's responsible for any paintings other than the one he admitted to painting. The Bendor Grosvenor blog has a bit more on the Charles V painting (on the left in the article)- the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece across his chest should be gold, not red, and the badge of the Order is missing. The problem is to "authenticate" that as a Goller; I suspect the chain of agents between auction house and painter is probably very murky. Xanthomelanoussprog ( talk) 19:12, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

The night is cold and hard,
the stars sparkle and gleam.
All are asleep on the lonely farm
deep dark the midnight hour.
The Moon wanders his silent ban,
the snow shines white on pine and fir,
the snow is white on the roofs.
Only Santa Claus is awake.
Standing there so silent at the door,Red against the white powder,
looking, as so many winters before,
up against the Moon's disc,
looking towards the forest, where spruce and pine
rise around the yard a dark wall,
brooding, though not to deep,
over a strange thought.

Pup Art: Pets Throughout Art HistoryFor who knows how long, dogs have been referred to as man’s best friend and though this certainly holds true, I would say the same applies to other furry creatures as well, such as cats, rabbits, guinea pigs etc. I began thinking about our four legged as well as winged friends after returning from a trip home when my boisterous and mischevious black cat, Loki (he lives up to his name), greeted me with loud meows accompanied by frenzied purring, it seemed he missed me while I was gone, or maybe he was just hungry…but either way I knew I had missed him, antics and all. For those who have a pet or have ever owned a pet, whatever species or breed they may be, know what it is like to have a constant companion who always greets you, in a way, with a “smile.” About 10,000 years ago dogs became one of the first domesticated animals and by 3500 B.C. cats became a household pet in Egypt. Undoubtedly the longest lasting trend, that won’t be ending anytime soon; pets have not only become ingrained into our cultural history, but have been immortalized by the artist as well. When one first thinks of dog paintings, something similar to the amusingly kitsch painting from the film Goodfellas may come to mind, but contrary to this perception some of the most avant-garde artists such as Picasso have chosen to depict their canine counterparts.

I wrote up Iakovos Rizos after massive amounts of research, in the course of which I discovered Albert de Belleroche, who seems to merit an article, even without his having been the subject of innumerable portraits by John Singer Sargent, with at least one blog post suggesting there was a bromance involved. He was also pals with Lautrec and preferred to ignore the fact he was the son of a marquis. The thing of it is, I learnt of him because he supposedly painted a portrait of "Jacques Rizo" that was well received at the salon, but not only can I not find that online, we don't appear to have a single thing by him on Commons. He died in 1944 so by lifetime plus 70 years, pictures of his paintings and lithographs should be out of copyright now, except for any first published after 1923, and he created relatively little after leaving Paris pre-First World War. So; are you familiar with this chap and do you think I should go ahead and write him up and kype some pictures of his femmes décoiffées and studies of shirtless brooding men, or am I up a gum tree? She had some big guns, and a nice runway. If it was not appropriate then it was removed. I have no plans to have a digital meltdown or create a hate page about others to make a point about how upset I am, over one of my comments being perceived as sexist. (I am not upset at all) and am frankly speaking glad that another editor was able to read the tone he/she felt from the comments and clarify it. That is how this site is designed to work. One can only hope that others, that perhaps do not have my yachting background would pick up on innuendo the comment might cause and it was removed. To me, all boats are "she" as it has been in nautical terms for hundreds of years. If you do not care to communicate that is fine, and your welcome to join Skype conversations regarding anything on SP as it is going to be more productive then picking my efforts apart, unless you simply can not help it, then go right ahead and pick away. If your interested in cohesive communication please use my talk page, and try to refrain from talking smack about my contributions. The Signpost is open to every editor to contribute to. Your making the publishing of this harder for no reason. You are not the editor in charge yet your clearly dedicated to sabotaging my efforts.
You are clearly good at picking apart my contributions, in spite of the fact that the publication readership is overwhelming increased over the last 4 issues, I can see based upon your comments that you are now going to pick up for your pal and rather then fix any problem you see, your going to use it to attack my efforts.

Midwinter cold is intense,
Exactly. : the snow is white on the ceilings. Only the (lost) plot is awake. Hafspajen ( talk) 21:16, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

My invite was from Adam Cuerden originally, I took him up on the request and am now the subject of a non stop bashing that your only feeding into. Thank you! talk→ WPPilot 17:08, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
You used to do the FA's and you vanished. I am only willing to do FP's and assumed that you would do the FA's but when you vanished and made it clear that your not willing to communicate then I did what I could to cover for your deficiencies.
Publishing deadline is still in the future, and ONCE AGAIN I HAVE ALWAYS SAID THAT MY CONTRIBUTIONS ARE ROUGH AND OPEN TO CHANGE BY ANY OTHER EDITORS. @ Adam Cuerden: @ The Herald: @ Gamaliel: @ The ed17: @ Tony1: @ Go Phightins!: I will let you do the ENTIRE next issue as I have had enough of this and all the drama is unhealthy.
