So a few times today I was using WP:Citation Hunt to help find sources for articles, so I would copy and paste the sentence where a citation was needed into Google search. After I did that, a few times I would see the same exact words pop up from other websites. Should I be bold and remove that part of the article or just use those websites as citations? As it seems, this author and book are better-known in Canada, and coverage on it may be tied up in government archives, so I'll have to see what I can find. Where the author is female and writing on the Chernobyl disaster, it would be good to keep the article, but I'll look for more substantive coverage first to see if it really qualifies here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PetSematary182 ( talk • contribs) 16:08, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello Mr. Dan Cherek,
Thank you for responding to my two questions. I have several more to ask: first and foremost, is this the only place - the "Ask your mentor a question" - where I can respond back to you? If there is or are any way of responding back do please let me know. Or if there is or are other ways to contact or respond back.
Second of all, I have seen the soapbox from the 5 Pillars of Wikipedia. Have you read that rule on here?
Thank you and I hope to hear more from you.

Hi Dan,
Is the use of the indentation that important or a requirement? I feel like it doesn't have to be, if ever I am going to edit some of the articles or even respond back. But thank you for reminding me. If I will be having any more questions, I shall be in contact. Thank you! Oh! Do you also happen to be a mentor to other people as well, or are there other mentors?

I see. I understand that replies do get lost every now and then. If I might suggest, maybe putting two asterisks or maybe pluses before the reply might work, instead of indenting? That might work? :) EvantheMendel ( talk) 22:45, 18 December 2021 (UTC)EvantheMendel

This is to let you know that the A Beautiful Crime article has been scheduled as today's featured article for January 29, 2022. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 29, 2022, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.
For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

Hi Dan,
Thank you for this information. As I stated, the information is not copyrighted and is actually public knowledge freely available both on our website and with the Maryland State Government websites. References are forthcoming, as I had to stop editing to attend a meeting.
I'm happy to acknowledge that I'm editing in the capacity of the Marketing and Outreach librarian, and leave my contact information; however, I am considered the "expert" in this matter and there are no "outside" individuals who would be able to can provide credible information. Information that would be added by other users would be considered less than accurate.
The page seemed to have been created automatically, without any outside input. I corrected it. Please restore the page as soon as possible.

Hi, thank you for your attention to the article Indonesian Malaysians. But someone keeps changing the information listed. As an Indonesian, I can confirm that this is a mistake because Anak Dagang (Foreign Malays) means Non Malay Malaysians =/ Indonesian Overseas. One must remember that the term "Indonesia" is a modern construct and only came to prominent following the Indonesian revolution in the early 20th century. Dutch East Indies Citizens, Srivijayans and Majapahitans definitely were not Indonesians. In the same way, you cannot equate the modern Italians with those Romans of antiquity, "Italian" is a modern identity. Thanks in advance🙏

Dear Dan,
Thanks for your edits for the Wikipedia page I am trying to start for the academic journal Atlantic Studies: Global Currents. I am confused that it popped up as copyright infringement. This text was not copied from anywhere. In fact, I am working with the Editors of the journal to create this page, and they provided me with the text they want uploaded on the page. I can send it over to you for review if that would be helpful. Take down the Larry Dale Brimner article, it’s lousy, poorly written and inaccurate. and he’s a thief and a scam artist. Brimner says on his web page he’s written more than 200 childrens books since 1987. How? By plagiarizing, theft and copyright infringement.
I know that first hand. I license my own photography from 1960s Civil Rights. He sought a license for a 2010 book “Birmingham Sunday.” Unwilling to pay my standard license fee, he bought a bootlegged copy and stole my copyright fee.
He never paid a dime for the stolen property. GE should known about copy right given all of his boasting about how many he holds.
He is now trying to republish “Birmingham Sunday” book in paperback and had his publisher contact me. It took me a while to dig through my files. My first thought was an absurdly high figure. Instead, Ijest refused.
I would not license that photo or any other to him. He’s already robbed me once and my impression is that I’m not the first.
If someone wants to do an article, it should be accurate and engage with the low work quality. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JosephMChapman ( talk • contribs) 03:36, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
It should note he is a plagiarist and serial copy right abuser, not just of my work. It’s not my dispute with him, it is what I know is a pattern of practice. In fact, the Wikipedia article looks like a his web site bio. At 78 I don’t have time to deal with lawsuits etc. I will leave that to Getty which also holds copyrights he violated regularly. It appears as a self-promoter he wrote the article himself. I don’t really care! Just that it is not credible. I don’t give a rat’s ass. JosephMChapman ( talk) 20:40, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello! Thanks for your review of my initial work, and the guidance on doing it right. As you noted, I have copied the Aubrey de Grey Wikipedia entry, and pasted it into my draft. As a newcomer, there is tons to learn, and finding detailed instruction is not always easy. The copy/paste action was simply to use an existing biography page as a newbie's template for the bio I am working on. In the end, my entries will have no content that in any way mentions or refers to de Grey. You instruction to give attribution does not appear to be very burdensome, but neither does it add value that I can think of. In those circumstances, is attribution still necessary? If you think a super fucking obscure painter from the 1800s is more of a """primary topic""" than someone who has had recent coverage in the news, you are not considering the reader. wizzito | say hello! 19:58, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

I don't understand your response. I am a state employee and the social media editor for the agency, I'm not being specifically to edit the page. Someone noticed the information on the commissioner was incorrect and that there were a couple of dead links. I am simply making updates to correct incorrect information. We are a state agency an need to ensure that the information is correct. I realized I forgot to include the additional reference information and was going back to add it when the text was deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeninatx ( talk • contribs) 22:10, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi Dan,
Thank you for this information.

I really don't understand what the issue is... I am in the PROCESS of completing everything, and you keep restoring the WRONG information. I can't get it through the Copyright Donation if you keep removing it.
It's not a war, it's not a competition. I'm TRYING to put the correct information out there. There are NO politics involved.

Hello DanCherek! Thank you for your advice on Draft:Amrutha Latha -- as this is still a draft, I'm still working on the infobox and using this text from 'Hugh Owen Thomas' to see how everything fits together, at the moment. The actual content is not in the article yet, and that is just placeholder text. Thank you for the reminder, though! (I hope I've used this talk page correctly. I apologise for any mistakes!) Mittersill Castle was a redirect to Mittersill, which I could not delete, so the only way I could fix the case of Mittersill castle was to copy the text across was to write over it and leave a redirect, so the overall effect was a move. Vicarage ( talk) 18:01, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
The main problem with these edits, which I reverted and a new IP reinstated sans most of the sources, is that the sources are media sources and they don't all mention the Tamil, and Tamil itself doesn't make these claims about prehistory. Doug Weller talk 17:09, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

I have reworded the offending paragraphs to be less similar to the website. If they need further work, please let me know. I also intend to expand this article over the next couple of days. Superegz ( talk) 02:51, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

It should be obvious that there is no primary topic for this name right now. He has the undisambiguated title, and HE SHOULD NOT. If you think a super fucking obscure painter from the 1800s is more of a """primary topic""" than someone who has had recent coverage in the news, you are not considering the reader. wizzito | say hello! 19:58, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
I work for the Texas Department of Information and have permission to reuse the language posted on our website. We are a state agency and the as far as I know we don't copywrite our stuff on the website.
