Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness... wha? 00:40, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Why did you make this move (AFC Wimbledon to A.F.C. Wimbledon) without discussion? As can be seen at #History, "AFC" does not stand for anything, specifically not for "Association Football Club". Thanks for uploading File:Coat of arms of Sabah.png. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI ( talk) 17:43, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on South Kilburn F.C. requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{
hangon}}
to the top of
the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on
the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact
one of these admins to request that they
userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.

If you follow the instructions on the page, you can contest the deletion. I hope you realise i did not flag the article maliciously, I jsut patrol new pages. all the best, Macromonkey ( talk) 22:11, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Jon Main, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's
criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "
What Wikipedia is not" and
Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{
dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on
its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. ArtVandelay13 ( talk) 11:59, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
I have nominated Jon Main, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jon Main. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Hi, "excessively repeated reference" means "repeating the same citation over and over again, too much". I've restored the one against his height, because that isn't mentioned anywhere other than the infobox. But if you just have one citation at the end of the lead section, that will be enough referencing for the items in that paragraph, they don't need to be all cited individually. Also, the ESPN page cited doesn't give his place of birth or his full name, nor does it mention his debut or his goals in the Ligapokal. cheers, Struway2 ( talk) 11:08, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by your edit summary "100px is too small and unviewable". Please remember that the page has to be viewed by users with a variety of screen widths: at 1024x768, for instance, the logo at 150px overwhelms the first page of the article. The fair use rationale states that "The logo is a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the company or organization, without being unnecessarily high resolution." The display size of 100px is plenty large enough to maintain the quality, as is illustrated by its having been displayed at that size without comment or complaint for the past two years to my knowledge. cheers, Struway2 ( talk) 09:01, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Just a quick note per our IRC chat; I thought it might be useful if I left some of the links we discussed here on your page for you.
Also, I've discovered some more information, which will clarify what happened.
Now that I've checked the logs of the file, I see exactly what you mean, and what has happened.
You can see from the logs;
You are quite right in saying that this is only something an admin can do - ie the deletion part. You could achieve the same result yourself, by requesting a deletion etc...however, I'm not convinced that it's the best solution anyway. 'We' (Wikipedia) like to keep the associated history with pages, wherever possible.
Now - links;
The 'retouched' tag;

Those symbols in the editing box are dashes. The one on the left (the smaller one) is an en dash, while the larger one next to it is an em dash. I don't think you can use the keyboard to type either dash into an article, but just clicking one of the symbols in the box will place it where the cursor is. WP:DASH has more information on proper usage of dashes; in Nicol David, the score ranges are correctly using en dashes. In several places, such as the Other Titles listing, I see spaced hyphens that should be changed to either spaced en dashes or unspaced em dashes. Hopefully this isn't too confusing, and I wish you luck in improving David's article. Giants2008 ( 17-14) 17:11, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

To me they seemed a little on the large size, given that fair use images are supposed to be as small as reasonably possible,(will consider de-tagging). The size reduction can easily be done by changing the nominal size in the SVG file IIRC.
Sfan00 IMG ( talk) 11:01, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
of normal photos. In terms of logos I tend to think it should 'display' at about the same size as it would on a small enamled badge or cap patch, but this is ONLY a personal opinion. Sfan00 IMG ( talk) 11:12, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Having asked in the Wikipedia IRC channel, I've been told that SVG logos should ideally be downsized to meet the Non free criteria used. However, as SVG is an inherently scalable format so a downsized image would only affect the raster presentation of it, not the underlying image.
As a guide, in respect of future conversions somewhere around 400x400 is perfectly reasonable in terms of the 'raster' presentation of a vector image.
On a more positive note, you might want to check my contributions, I am sure there are some raster logos/crests of football clubs that need conversion, something you seem VERY good at :) Sfan00 IMG ( talk) 11:29, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I told you earlier that I was going to hold your requests till June. The reason being is that I needed to update my Inkscape because the older version had issues with putting text on paths. I wasn't able to, so I unfortunately couldn't convert any. I have 4 done, but MediaWiki will not render the "rainbow text". If I convert to path, they misalign. It is a big mess with my stupid version, so your version will probably be better. Maybe request at GL if your versions still need fixing? Zoo Fari 23:06, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Maybe you missed this higher up your page, so I'll repost it here
Hi again, I reverted your edits to the manchester city logo for a couple of reasons, firstly the new logo you uploaded is incorrect and I am not clear what you think is incorrect about the one that is there currently. Also I removed your speedy delete tag (that is how we got into a mess last time). Please do not upload to another name and then speedy the first image, by doing this you are erasing the file history and discussions about it. Paul Bradbury 16:10, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
I looked up in the policy section and I am wrong, you can delete from you own talk page. However it is considered bad form. Your talk page is an audit of your discussions and removing information especially warnings can leave future editors unaware of the discussion that you have had about a topic. In this instance removing the warning about removing speedy tags from your own articles. Paul Bradbury 18:24, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
I have 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. The image is a logo, so {{ logo fur}} is more appropriate, but {{ Non-free media rationale}} (which redirects to {{ non-free use rationale}}) is not egregiously wrong, however {{ information}} is more often used for free images. The image is being used in two articles, so you must have a rationale for each article. You can also use {{ non-free image data}} and multiple {{ non-free image rationale}}. I have managed to vectorise the outline of the land, and its borders without any problems. The tracing software keeps producing nasty-shape madness whenever I try to trace the roads, rivers, etc. I think I will have to trace them by hand, which will take a long time, as I don't have a graphics tablet any more. :D I will spend some more time on it tonight.-- James Chenery ( talk) 03:29, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
My Adobe Illustrator demo has now expired, but I could download some of the free tools listed on wikipedia, if you need me to alter anything.
You can also post these SVGs up on the Graphic Lab request page, and ask one of the experienced guys to see if they can work a little magic on them, if you like. :D
Actually, I have just noticed that on wikipedia, the N of "George Town" is behind the location circle - Ack! Opening the file again in Illustrator shows the words in the correct place, so I assume it is due to the renderer that Firefox is using? I will leave George Town where it is, for now, in case trying to fix it breaks the image for other browsers.

I'm not the best person to comment , and won't but some thoughts here anyway
- SVG can be rendered at any resoloution - Wikipedia chooses not to render fair-use SVG as hi-res., A user still has to download the SVG in order to get a hi-res version themselves. It could thus be argued that creation of the thus non-fair use image is NOT done by Wikipedia but by the downloader that re-generates it at hi-res.)
- Also Wikipedia makes plenty of warnings that an image isn't 'free' and certainly doesn't in terms of the context of use on wikipeida use an SVG fair use logo for commerical purposes. ( A downloader converting a 'fair-use' SVG would thus possibly be making thier own derivative, outside of 'fair-use' which could also be a copyvio.)
Other than that I don't fell I have enough knowledge to respond in the thread you pointed me at. Sfan00 IMG ( talk) 21:58, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

PLEASE do not revert all these back. At best these are from websites that no longer exist...at worst, they are original research or have changed several times within the series. Anyway, we do not include birthdates in other shows - therefore, they shouldn't be here. By reverting them, you are encouraging those who like to make up info and try to turn Wikipedia into a fansite rather than an encyclopedic source. If you check the user who added all the birthdates, you will see they have a habit of questionable additions. So I ask you please not to put the birthdates back. Hi Arteyu/Archive 1!. Every attempt to rescue a Wikipedia article is a noble gesture. However, there may be occasions when, with the best will in the world, it is just not possible to accord even a minimum of notability to an article or stub, or find a proper source for it. Most regrettably, even the most dedicated inclusionists will have to concede that the article may have to go if the creator or major contributors cannot justify their work.
For new and recent unsourced BLPs, some users are now working at
WT:BLP PROD TPL on the development of templates that are designed to encourage contributors to source new BLPs, without scaring away the newbies who might not be aware of the rules. This template is certainly not another a licence to kill for the deletionists, in fact the very idea of it is to ensure that you are not fighting a losing battle. It would be great if you could look in at the prgogress and maybe leave a word of encouragement. The workshop page is essentially a template development taskforce, and is not a place to engage in a hefty debate on incusion/deletion policy. See you at

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Aston Villa.svg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors
July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including
Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Hi there. Good to the see the new guidelines for tennis notability in place. It s likley not a pressing matter but I m wondering now how we should reconcile having wikilinks in place for players as listed on WP articles that are drawsheets for Challenger events (such as 2010 Challenger Banque Nationale de Granby – Singles) as well as pages presenting a year's ATP Challenger Tour calender (such as 2010 ATP Challenger Tour). Having wikilinks in place for players(' names) on these pages fully suggests that competitors in Challenger tourneys are WP notable, which is not true according to our new guidelines (as only titlests are). (I d still favour seeing Challenger quarterfinalists or better in singles and either finalists or semi-finalists or better in doubles be considered notable). Rather minor issues perhaps but ones that need to be tidied up ultimately, surely. Mayumashu ( talk) 01:24, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{
hangon}}
to the top of
the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on
the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay.

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Jon Main, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's
criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "
What Wikipedia is not" and
Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{
dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on
its talk page.

Thanks for uploading File:Luton Town.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot ( talk) 16:46, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for being patient, -- James Chenery ( talk) 15:50, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Sharifah Sofia. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and " What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sharifah Sofia. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

See you at

Thanks for uploading File:Burnley FC.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Big Dom 11:59, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Er, hi Arteyu. Was it you whom I temporarily banned from #wikipedia-en-help yesterday? If so, I'm sorry about that. I somehow mistook you for someone else (a troll). Apologies. -- KFP ( contact | edits) 17:10, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Disclaimer: It's very rare for me to send messages like this; it might seem frivolous or hypocritical, as I often complain about myspacing of the project. However, as a pastafarian, this is my equivalent of a Christmas greeting. I seriously believe we need to have fun sometimes. If you object, I apologize; let me know, and I won't bother you again. |
