Len Rawle, player and preserver of organs of the Wurlitzer variety. I've just been re-watching Metro-Land and wonder whether Rawles might be notable. Pathé covered him in 1960, there are bits such as this and he is already mentioned in Wurlitzer theatre organs in the United Kingdom. He has been interviewed here (I cannot hear it) and there are loads of other GHits, although many are unfamiliar to me and a fair few seem to be basically PR for concerts. There is also a hint in a snippet about what he had to do to his self-built house feature in Metro-Land in order to get the former Empire Cinema, Leicester Sq. organ into it and not annoy the neighbours. It will be a stub but there are enough snippets to suggest that more might turn up. What do you think? It isn't really my line and I'm limited on time at the moment but perhaps someone might take it on? - Sitush ( talk) 00:00, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Just saw this and had to chuckle. My one pleasant memory of the film is that I saw it at our Cooper Cinerama Theatre. As a youngster it seemed to make any film a extraordinary experience. Just shows how wonderfully naive a person can be. If the legend that Howard Hughes watched it over and over is true that alone would show he was off his rocker :-) I am working my way through a nice Bluray set of Werner Herzog's early films and Thursday night was Aguirre, the Wrath of God. It is a true journey into the "Heart of Darkness" film. The opening sequence is stunning and it, as well as his other film made in the Amazon forest Fitzcarraldo, are worth your time. His remake of Murnau's Nosferatu - Nosferatu the Vampyre is also worth a look - if only for the fact that some scenes were filmed at the same spots. WH captures nature and magnificent scenery like few others and all three of these films have great examples of this. I know you are busy busy watching all manner of films so keep having fun - whenever possible - doing that. MarnetteD| Talk 21:40, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
@ MarnetteD:, I saw Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo earlier. Excellent films! Kinski was such a psychopath, you could tell that he was a very difficult man! You could really feel the genuine tension and hatred by the natives of Kinski in Fitzcarraldo. You can't fake that!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:41, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

The stub was perfectly legitimate and contained info on the director, cast and release date. Do you honestly expect me to write a full length article on a Brazilian film from the 1920s?? Sources are in Portuguese. Do you not think that the stub was a step in the right direction in trying to tackle systematic bias? I'm not criticising you for wanting these stubs improved, but it is worrying to me that you're not bothering to look in google books to see if it is notable or not, and that you wouldn't even consider asking an editor courteously to expand. If you don't want "personal attacks", stop aggressively nominating every short article you see for deleti.on.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:59, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Kevin says: "I used to contribute a lot here. I haven't so much recently, but having some recuperation time with limited mobility, I thought I would do some random article hopping, and try to improve the errors that I come across as a reader of Wikipedia that make it look amateurish. But the extraordinary incivility and bullying that I encountered makes me regret that choice.
This project could be great if there weren't so such aggressive and arrogant defenders of their own right to retain pointless uninformative stubs that fail to meet even the barest requirements. As it is, it is good despite them, but something I have a lot less interest in than 48 hours ago". Kevin McE ( talk) 14:28, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
This project would be great if everybody worked together and supported each other and instead of trying to delete everything lacking, worked together in good spirit to improve them and benefit the encyclopedia in the long term. Not running straight to AFD on every short article you encounter without even bothering to search for sources and improve it yourself. You only have yourself to blame with your callous approach to articles and lack of respect for other editors and consensus. I've told you that you're welcome to kindly ask me to ask something you don't like. Nobody is defending pointless uninformative stubs, we're defending them as encyclopedia subjects which with a bit of research can quickly be turned into something really decent. If you can't see this and respect the goals of the project, then wikipedia is far better off without you, so adios. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:06, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Silk Purse Award | |
I am both pleased and honored to present you with the Silk Purse Award in appreciation for your superb improvements to the
Shuttlecock (film) article that
ONE person found deleterious, essentially taking what was seen as a sow's ear
by only him and changing it into a terrific silk purse that serves Wikipedia and its readers. Well done.
![]() |
@ MichaelQSchmidt: Aw thanks. Wikipedia is full of incompetent little twats though. We have to deal with this sort of thing all of the time! Shuttlecock is a tough one, I'm still not certain on when the exact release was and what happened. Given that Alan Bates hasn't been alive for at least 10 years, this looks like the same film under a different title.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:35, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
It isn't a personal attack though is it, as it isn't directed at anybody.... It's a general comment about the number of incompetent individual wikipedia attracts. A personal attack would be "Kevin McE is a f**king wanker. What a twat that fella is". I said nothing of the sort.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:02, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
Did you have anything planned with this? I know our coverage on here for African films is pretty bad, and I'd be happy to help to counter systematic bias! If you've got any good sources to use, I can start creating articles. This isn't just limited to Africa too - let me know what country/directors are missing key articles too. Thanks! Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 11:54, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
@ Lugnuts: I can't think of any African ones offhand. The one which springs to mind though is Luiz de Barros for Brazil, a lot of notable films missing if you're interested. The African film award list is a work in progress...♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:57, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, it's been ridiculous. I can't believe not one administrator here can ask people from skyscrapers.com to refrain from creating new accounts to try to force an urban image at Talk:Paris. So many situations which should have been dealt with swiftly have been allowed to continue on here because of the lack of intervention. I appreciate that people are busy but it does sort of defeat the object of having them if still new accounts are being created to stack votes. At least an admin should leave a notice at the top of the talk page saying "This is not a vote. If you've been ask to create a new account on wikipedia with the sole purpose of voting for an image then your input will likely be discredited."♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:57, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

I thought we were trying to build the world's greatest encyclopedia, not tear it down. I am disheartened by those who choose not to even try to improve articles before tagging them for deletion.

I filed an SPI yesterday. Darkness Shines ( talk) 10:52, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Just to let you know that as of tonight you're in second place, with 665 points. I think you've got the oldest stub declared so far, as well...
I noticed you've been leaving a running total which is currently at 765, but I make it 665 - could you check this? It's quite possible that I've made my provisional count wrong, thanks to all the various multipliers - I'll double-check them all before we declare a winner, just to be sure. Andrew Gray ( talk) 20:18, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
@ Andrew Gray: I just did a count and I got 745 that time. Did you also count the flat 10 points for the entries themselves aside form the bonuses? Perhaps @ Casliber: can double check.Does the contest end at 23:59 on 30 September right and whoever has the most points is the winner?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:36, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

You're an even sadder character than I thought.... The time it took you to find all of those diffs and try to portray us the bad party is disgusting. You clearly do not have the best interests in the project at heart and aren't here to be constructive. I suggest an admin swiftly close the ANI post as nothing is going to come from it...♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:50, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
@ Metropolitan: Seriously, what do you expect if you go canvassing a bunch of meat puppets from skyscrapers.com to force your agenda here? Given that you never edit wikipedia constructively and only turn up every so years to complain, why do you think people were "uncivil" to you? I see you as just another of those excruciatingly annoying time wasters who do nothing for the site but waste the precious time of regulars. Please leave.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:51, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Just to lighten the humour a bit, I don't suppose you can find a picture so we can do something about the Manuel of Style?
"Mr Fawlty, Mr Fawlty, is WP:RS! Is WP:RS!"
or
"I speak brilliant prose. I learn it from a boooook"
or
"This FA. This Blofeld. This smack on head." Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:04, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Haha great one!! Some of the editors we have here are indeed about as capable as Manuel!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:06, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

In the eyes of User:Jimbo Wales Ritchie, the amount of content put into the site is irrelevant; we're no more valuable to the website than those ips who may edit once in a blue moon.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:50, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
