That's not at all what it "literally" means: ភ្ជុំ (pchum) means "to gather together, to assemble, gathering" (from the Khmer word ជុំ) and "បិណ្" (bun) means "lump or ball (of rice)" from Pali "piṇḍa" named for the ancient tradition of throwing rice balls into an empty field to feed the spirits/ghosts
