It is located in the center of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,917 square kilometers (740 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a sloboda) of Bolshaya Martynovka. [1] Population: 36,545 ( 2010 Census); [3] 40,499 ( 2002 Census); [7] 33,684 ( 1989 Soviet census). [8] The population of Bolshaya Martynovka accounts for 16.9% of the district's total population.
