It is located in the north of the oblast. The area of the district is 3,112 square kilometers (1,202 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a sloboda) of Kashary. [1] Population: 25,355 ( 2010 Census); [3] 27,424 ( 2002 Census); [6] 29,712 ( 1989 Soviet census). [7] The population of Kashary accounts for 25.8% of the district's total population. [3]
