Zhirnovsky District ( Russian: Жи́рновский райо́н) is an administrative [1] district ( raion), one of the thirty-three in Volgograd Oblast, Russia. As a municipal division, it is incorporated as Zhirnovsky Municipal District. [7] It is located in the north of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,970 square kilometers (1,150 sq mi).[ citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Zhirnovsk. [2] Population: 43,685 ( 2010 Russian census); [4] 47,575 ( 2002 Census); [9] 46,418 ( 1989 Soviet census). [10] The population of Zhirnovsk accounts for 38.6% of the district's total population. [4]
