Target dates: Opened 6 April 2024 • Evidence closes 20 April 2024 • Workshop closes 27 April 2024 • Proposed decision to be posted by 4 May 2024

Scope: Conduct in the topic area of Venezuelan politics, with a specific focus on named parties.

Case clerks: ToBeFree ( Talk) & Dreamy Jazz ( Talk) Drafting arbitrators: Firefly ( Talk) & Guerillero ( Talk) & Sdrqaz ( Talk)

Behaviour on this page: Arbitration case pages exist to assist the Arbitration Committee in arriving at a fair, well-informed decision. You are required to act with appropriate decorum during this case. While grievances must often be aired during a case, you are expected to air them without being rude or hostile, and to respond calmly to allegations against you. Accusations of misbehaviour posted in this case must be proven with clear evidence (and otherwise not made at all). Editors who conduct themselves inappropriately during a case may be sanctioned by an arbitrator, clerk, or functionary, without further warning, by being banned from further participation in the case, or being blocked altogether. Personal attacks against other users, including arbitrators or the clerks, will be met with sanctions. Behavior during a case may also be considered by the committee in arriving at a final decision.

S Marshall

Clerks, what's my word count? I'm not sure which tool or utility you use to check it, whether headers count, or whether numbered diffs are words.

Arbitrators, User:WMrapids is asking me for clarifications. Please may I have more words for replies? Thank you.

Now that User:WMrapids has been CU-blocked, may I withdraw all my evidence?

S Marshall, thanks for asking – we'll discuss this. If you intend to replace the current evidence by different content and are only hindered by the word count, please consider already compiling the new evidence, checking approximately how large an extension would have to be in case the answer is "no", and perhaps even already requesting that extension independently of a withdrawal. ~ ToBeFree ( talk) 22:08, 11 April 2024 (UTC) reply
  • If I'm permitted to withdraw it and start again then I hope 1,000 words will suffice. I'm now arguing only for a partial relaxation of NoonIcarus' topic ban. Alternatively Arbcom could close the case by motion in which case I'll go to the community for that.— S Marshall  T/ C 22:20, 11 April 2024 (UTC) reply
S Marshall, we'd prefer to keep the evidence, but you're granted an extension of 500 words. ~ ToBeFree ( talk) 19:07, 14 April 2024 (UTC) reply

NoonIcarus

I believe S Marshall clarified it for me, but just to make sure: do signatures count towards the word count? Thank you kindly in advance. NoonIcarus ( talk) 11:43, 10 April 2024 (UTC) reply

While we're at it, I'd like to check my word and diff count as well. I believe I haven't exceeded the limit, but I want to make sure. I'd also like to ask if it is possible to ask for more words for responses. -- NoonIcarus ( talk) 18:32, 10 April 2024 (UTC) reply

Based on my count, you are at 955 words which puts you just under the word limit. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 07:25, 13 April 2024 (UTC) reply

One last question for the moment: I think it'd be helpful for the evidence phase to have ReyHahn's feedback, since he has know the dispute since its start, but I obviously don't want to notify him improperly. How are these invitations handled? Are they done by the filer or the clerks? Or this should only be the case with the preliminary participants? Many thanks. -- NoonIcarus ( talk) 18:38, 10 April 2024 (UTC) reply

  •  Comment: I emailed the Arbitration Committee with private information.
If the word count allows it or if I have an extention, I can leave this comment in the main page. Regards, -- NoonIcarus ( talk) 05:54, 12 April 2024 (UTC) reply

Translations

What can be done about (necessary) translations impacting word count on submissions? Could translations of sources perhaps be omitted from the word count? Translations are needed to show POV insertions, and also to rebut some of the charges of spurious failed verification. SandyGeorgia ( Talk) 19:25, 14 April 2024 (UTC) reply

I don't know if I can omit them, but I will give you 500 extra words for translations. If you need more, just ask -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 19:29, 14 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Thx; another option might be to put them on the Workshop in an analysis section, but that would seem to result in more work for the arbs to read split pages. SandyGeorgia ( Talk) 19:49, 14 April 2024 (UTC) reply

Robert McClenon

When this case was first requested, I submitted a statement urging ArbCom to define Venezuelan politics as a contentious topic, and said that it was up to ArbCom whether a full evidentiary phase was necessary or whether the designation could be done by motion. Now that one of the parties has been blocked for sockpuppetry, it is still up to ArbCom how much of an evidentiary phase is necessary. I still urge ArbCom to designate Venezuelan politics are a contentious topic. ArbCom can still consider imposing word limits on posts; if disputes are reported to Arbitration Enforcement, its word limits will of course be in effect. Evidence phase closing soon

The evidence phase of this case will be closed within 24 hours. If you wish to post evidence and have not done this, please do so shortly. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 12:39, 20 April 2024 (UTC) reply

Dreamy Jazz I am still working -- apologies for slow (and incomplete) progress due to sutures and complicated by catching up post-vacation on real life matters on two boards I serve on IRL. My evidence will be in before 0 UTC, and hopefully sooner, as I am still searching for diffs. SandyGeorgia ( Talk) 12:48, 20 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Thanks for the update. If you feel you need more time, I can forward this to the arbs to request an extension to this stage. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 12:50, 20 April 2024 (UTC) reply
I'm not sure more time will help (as I mentioned earlier, there is no good time for me, as my IRL calendar post-vacation is completely full). An additional complication was having to rejig everything (including my thinking about the most likely but undisclosed master sock account and the source of the problems) once the CU blocks occurred. I think I need only a few more hours to complete a diff list, and I also think the Workshop page can then be used more effectively, but it's difficult to concretely make and prove assertions when the master account seems apparent but has not been revealed. SandyGeorgia ( Talk) 12:55, 20 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Dreamy Jazz I am finishing up work at User:SandyGeorgia/sandbox3 (fine tuning, checking diffs, still missing diffs, etc), but I have more than 50 diffs, while still missing some. SandyGeorgia ( Talk) 13:21, 20 April 2024 (UTC) reply
@ SandyGeorgia - take this message as the "written consent from an arbitrator" (as mentioned in the Evidence page instructions) to post evidence containing up to 75 diffs. If you think you will have more than that, let me know. firefly ( t · c ) 13:57, 20 April 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Firefly and Dreamy Jazz: at User:SandyGeorgia/sandbox3, I have closer to 100 diffs (still need to trim some text). Because we have a topic-banned editor (NoonIcarus) from what I consider an uneven discussion at ANI, I believe it important to demonstrate the depth and breadth of the edits by the other party that were not explored at the ANI that resulted in a one-sided topic ban. I also believe some of these behaviors have a longer history than I am able to point out, as the sockmaster remains unidentified. Please advise if I can extend to this number of diffs (there are other issues I've not even had time to explore). SandyGeorgia ( Talk) 15:56, 20 April 2024 (UTC) reply
@ SandyGeorgia granted to the number you have. firefly ( t · c ) 16:18, 20 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Thanks; posting next (cut the preamble for word count). SandyGeorgia ( Talk) 16:22, 20 April 2024 (UTC) reply
