This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Lists of people. It is one of many
deletion lists coordinated by
WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at
WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at
WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
-
Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Lists of people|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- Note that there are a few
scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by
a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove links to other discussions (
prod,
CfD,
TfD etc.) related to Lists of people.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's
deletion policy and
WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Not that all but one is entirely unsourced but
WP:LISTCRUFT sums it all up. Virtually all of those bluelinked are not specific to sports broadcastings; for example, a bulk of John Williams' fame was from movie composing. Are we going to every film and TV composers who worked on the Olympics too. Are we going to list
Emerson, Lake & Palmer (
Fanfare for the Common Man) and
Fleetwood Mac (
The Chain) too? I cannot see this passing
WP:NLIST too.

Grossly out-of-date and incomplete. Even if the list WERE complete AND up-to-date, there is no lead section, no cited sources, AND no explanation why this list is encyclopedically notable. In the current form, it will never meet the requirements of a quality list article on Wikipedia. I also don't really get the purpose of this article. For searching figure skaters, we have the category "figure skaters", which has the big advantage that newly-created biographies are automatically added there.

- Keep, a valid navigational list. A clearly defined list of bluelinks selected by an obvious important characteristic of the subjects.

- Keep, sure it needs work to update, but other sports have similar lists; i.e.,
Lists of tennis players,
List of current AFC team rosters. Some are sourced, some aren't (i.e.,
List of female American football players).

- Keep: This nomination is nonsense. It tries to justify deletion by pointing out ways that the article could be improved, which assumes that the article should be kept in the first place.

- Delete per
WP:NOTDIRECTORY. We don't need a complete list of every figure skater ever in one article. ON the topic of other articles,
WP:OSE applies, but also
Lists of tennis players is links to lots of different sub-articles with specific criteria,
List of current AFC team rosters and
List of female American football players has sufficiently few people that an encyclopedic article with text could be created. Listing thousands of figure skaters in one article would make a ridiculously long article, which isn't needed. Splitting by winning significant events e.g. world/continental championships would be sensible, but this article is and always will be a directory violation.

My PROD tag was removed, so here we are. This is an older duplicate of
Black Reel Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance. As this award was divided into two categories from 2014 to 2023, the article is also partly a duplicate of
Black Reel Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance, Male and
Black Reel Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance, Female.

- A redirect (and merge, if necessary) to
Black Reel Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance seems quite uncontroversial (as the edit summary of the person who dpD the page stated, if I remember well). I had thought about it and deproDd it before reverting myself but on second second thoughts, redirects are cheap. I don't even think an Afd was necessary but thanks for taking the trouble.-

- The 2003 to 2013 awards are already covered in

Irrelevant article of mostly non-notable people, which doesn't meet
WP:GNG. We tend to only have articles like this for major events like
FIFA World Cup referees, not for national cup tournaments like this one.

- I simply created the list because I was unable to find any website that allowed me to compare my self to a US president. Also if we are arguing that this is trivial then I feel that
US presidential nicknames would qualify in that category more than this would. I would also like a specific reason for deletion because I feel that it is currently based off of their being a similar article (
Heights of presidents and presidential candidates of the United States). I think this article is a valuable supplement as the
Heights of presidents and presidential candidates of the United States article dives deep into comparison of heights amongst candidates this article over the broader scope of the presidents general body size.
Pickup Andropov (

- How are
US presidential nicknames trivial? They are often important aspects of the presidents campaigning, or important aspects of how the presidents are viewed in popular culture. Furthermore, there being a similar article is a valid cause for deletion, since such articles serve as a
Redundant Fork.

Article is a collection of 77 unsourced genealogies, with four footnotes. There is probably a notable list for this topic, but in its current state, WP:TNT is needed to make room; if all the unsourced genealogy material was removed, there would a a title and categories. Wikipedia is not a genealogy site. //

- Comment: Calling this a genealogy would be the same as calling
List of French monarchs a genealogy; technically not incorrect but a bit silly as it is a list of rulers. Certainly passes
WP:NLIST; for instance, in
the appendix of this book, there is a list of the rulers of about 35 of these states from 1887 to 1959. It seems the majority of the present article is derived from WorldStatesman
[1], which is of course deprecated.
WP:TNT is an option that is on the table.
Curbon7 (
talk) 22:25, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
reply
- Weak Keep: I don't know if it's past the
WP:TNT tipping point yet. It's likely that much of the content could be sourced from the generic references. Don't think the material is necessarily controversial enough to mandate
WP:INLINE citations. Of course, it's also likely that WorldStatesman is the true source, hence the weak keep. I don't personally have much time to edit this week, but I could go through the book Curbon listed or find other books I do have on Shan states and try to inline cite some the week after that. But doesn't seem unrecoverable and full of misinformation just because of a lack of inline citations.
