The puppet has made a couple of edits to Tsatsiki in line with edits made by the master, as well as by a couple of IP users after the block.   • This is just one of a long, long list of IP addresses used by Shingling in the ranges 92.24.xx.xx, 92.28.xx.xx and 92.29.xx.xx, located in Ipswich. Just from two food-related pages Doner kebab and Gyro (food) during the last month I can pick up 92.29.116.23, 92.24.187.222, 92.28.255.14, 92.24.186.175, 92.28.243.72, 92.28.247.102, all from Ipswich, all making the same type of edits by removing Greek and/or adding Turkish origin, one of the trademarks of Shingling. Another trademark of Shingling was to upload copyvio material to Commons. After being blocked on enWiki but before being blocked on Commons, Shingling continued to upload copivios and used IPsock 92.28.251.68 (in the same familiar range) to put it into an article exactly one minute later: [5]. I am afraid the IPs are too many and too shortlived to do much about. I have, however, added another account to this SPI investigation. Mikethebeast228 has the same structure of the user name as Shingling334 and the known socks Mastereditor332, Editorchampion338 and Mrclever2248, the same passion for removing Greek and/or adding Turkish origin to food: [6], [7], the same interest in Turkish and Northern Cypriot politicians: [8], even copying the somewhat strange behaviour of editing an article and then suddenly blanking large sections of it: Shingling, Mikethebeast228, and the same history of uploading copyvio material: Shingling, Mrclever2248, Mikethebeast228. -- T*U ( talk) 16:03, 25 October 2016 (UTC) reply

Copying Shingling's strange habit of suddenly deleting parts of or whole articles after editing them here and here, the last one after first editing as IP92.28.248.92, another TalkTalk Ipswich IP. The article was earlier created by Mikethebeast228 (a sock in this farm) as ComedyShortsGamer (Deji) couple of months ago. Aniketkumar7 is already blocked but he also looks like a part of this group as per this edit. There are some more users who also created the article for this subject using different titles but they are not active since 2015 please see this search result for a list of those users. Moving Anari cheese to Turkish name "Nor cheese" here, just like Shingling334 ( talk · contribs) here and here. And then the usual "Turkification" at Baklava here. This one has gone under the radar for some weeks. User created the day after sockmaster's last unblock request. The not-so-very-inventive username is probably evidence enough, but the usual adding of "Turkish" at Baklava here and Tzatziki here, helped by IP92.29.120.215 from the familiar range, is no less convincing. The rest of the edits are creation and updating of article about Deniz Apaydinli, who is the same person as Eyeden, Eyeden (Musician), Eyeden (musician), Eyeden (Singer) and Eyeden (singer), pages that have been repeatedly deleted for lack of notability. Jamesgolding ( talk · contribs) adds Turkish origin to yoghurt here, is interested in Turkish Cypriot politicians like Mustafa Akıncı and Rauf Denktaş and has the typical Shingling-pattern of first editing an article and then blanking. In addition comes the usual strange use of the help-tag here in the Mesut Özil article, which is one of Shingling's favourites. Also uploading of copyright material to Commons as "own work" here before adding it to article here.

Editorminded22 ( talk · contribs) has few edits, just repeats the uploading and adding of the same picture. The username is also in the Shingling-style.

The IPs are not quite as obvious this time, since they are not in the usual Ipswich 92.24/92.28/92.29 ranges, but they are nevertheless quite revealing. When Shingling was indeffed for socking in August, the IP socks were 212.108.137.140 and 212.108.131.124, located in Mersin, Turkey. The edit summary of one of those IPs here helps explaining the connection between the Ipswich IPs and the Mersin ones. Compare this with the edit summary of one of the current socks here. I was first a bit confused by the 185.24. socks used in between the 212.108. ones, since they seem to geolocate to Britain and Turkey repectively. However, I found this, which connects the two ranges and also gives the connection to Mersin. Needless to say, the IPs show similar editorial pattens as the usual IP socks, including a rather amusing series of template confusion in my talk page.

It seems Shinglings university year in Ipswich may be over, so that we may expect more of the same Mersin IPs popping up during the summer... T*U ( talk) 11:15, 1 June 2017 (UTC) reply

It's been a while, but it looks as if they are back... After typical IP edits by 79.71.232.222 to articles about the Turkishness of food like here and here and about NC politicians like here and the occasional section blanking like here, they created a new account. The new account started by making a number of nonsense edits on random articles in order to become autoconfirmed, just like the earlier sock Editor.TH, then targeting favourite articles like Tzatziki here, followed by blanking. Edits at Taramasalata, Sarma (food) and Timeline of Cypriot history are supplemented by similar edits from the new IP 79.71.226.128 in the same range. The IPs are not in the familiar 92.24., 92.27., 92.28. ranges, but they are still TalkTalk from Essex, so I think we may just assume that Shingling334 has moved since the autumn.   • @ Largoplazo: Shingling has been forced to branch out, since all of his favourite targets have been protected. If you look at recent confirmed Shingling-socks, and IPs geolocating to his area and used by him before, you'll find quite a few of those atypical edits, mixed in with more typical ones. I've also reported typical edits from proxies 5.196.91.229 and 213.183.59.80 at WP:OP, and also 146.71.79.150 which has already been blocked.

Fyi, he has also been active recently again on Special:Contributions/92.3.96.0/20 and Special:Contributions/79.71.224.0/19 since blocks have expired on those. Not sure if blocks are necessary, I've just been manually reverting everything obvious there, as there are a couple of other users in the ranges, and also it helps to see connections to the proxy edits. Let me know if I should not be doing that. He seems to be carrying on a bit of a smear campaign against me: [31], [32], [33], [34] (on Commons), [35], etc. I've put a fair amount of time into cleaning up after him, and I want to be sure I'm not doing anything improper or unhelpful.   • Numerous other idiosyncratic edits and patterns, see previous reports. I can disclose more in e-mail if it's not clear.

The IP 92.28.59.57 left a message on my talk page notifying me of the SalaamAlaikum account as a Shingling334 sock. Maybe a good hand / bad hand attempt?   • Repeating past edits changing "British" to "English": [74], [75]
  • Edit-warring about Turkish ethnicity: [76] (compare with behaviorally obvious socks editing via proxy: [77], [78], [79], [80]).
  • Special interests in Muslim presidents and kings, and edit-warring over their photos and numbering: [81], [82], etc.
  • Special interests in national origins of food dishes: [83], [84].

I checked the Special:Contributions/92.6.0.0/16 range, and there are a couple of dozen other IPs in the past half a year or so fitting the same patterns, which seem to be all in Special:Contributions/92.6.128.0/17. There are also several in Special:Contributions/92.11.176.0/20.

IP2: Active since 19 November, last edit two days ago. A new ISP for him, EE Mobile, since late August or so (see also Special:Contributions/2.25.78.180 and previously-reported Special:Contributions/2.25.106.235), same geolocation.

@ RoySmith:, sure, I can explain the basis of 38.142.114.2 being a proxy. The edits are stale, it's just to show a diff with past IP socks for evidence of 92.28.48.135 continuing old slow-motion edit wars. 38.142.114.2 is reported as a "high risk proxy connection" by IPQualityScore: [128]. It geolocates to the US, but behaviorally it's an obvious sock of Shingling334. 88.105.189.242 (on the usual Talk Talk, Suffolk) edited Kapsalon and was blocked the same day as a Shingling334 sock. [129] The next day, proxy IP 38.142.114.2 repeated the same edit. [130]

The mix of edits from 38.142.114.2 are also very typical patterns of Shingling334, e.g. editing Suffolk New College, [131], edits about Northern Cyprus, [132] national origin claims for food being Turkish or changing between England/English and UK/British, and a little vandalism thrown in. [133] See these edits repeatedly changing Jamie Oliver's ethnicity by 38.142.114.2: [134], confirmed sock CheesyChips342 [135], and 92.6.246.68, blocked as a Shingling334 sock just last week: [136]. Shingling334 has a long history of (sometimes) using proxies. Normally I would have reported it to WP:OP, I don't remember what happened at the time, but it looks like it was blocked right after the edits back in 2018 and there weren't any more edits since then, so probably I didn't bother, and there's no need to do it now. Adds Turkish flags to food articles against MOS. 2. Changes "Ottoman" to "Turkish". 3. Uses misleading edit-summaries calling his edits as "fixing typos". 4. This account has been blocked as a sock of indeffed STAY AT HOME FOR THE NHS ( talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), but is actually not that user, but Shingling334. Maybe doesn't matter that much, but probably a good idea to clarify who was behind this account and its vandalism etc., and remove this unblock request: [138]. Shingling334 has a history of fooling around with claiming to be other users.

There is some crossover because STAY AT HOME FOR THE NHS, who seemed to have a pro-Turkish Cypriot agenda, reinstated several of Shingling334's edits that I had reverted for block evasion. I think they had trawled my edit history, or it's even possible they know each other off-wiki. However, their behavior was quite different than Shingling334, for example, they did not engage in vandalism, and were chatty on talk pages, with a better command of English.

STAY AT HOME FOR THE NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE, on the other hand, shows several typical Shingling334 behaviors such as these: [139] (compare with [140]); [141] (compare with numerous other socks using this template); and making "good" edits then blanking or vandalizing the page: [142], [143] (note that page is a favorite target of Shingling334).

Also, a couple of minutes after making these typical edits and having them reverted: [144], [145], [146], IP 88.105.83.167 reinstated them; the IP is on the usual network and geolocation of Shingling334. IamNotU ( talk) 11:03, 28 May 2020 (UTC) reply

  • This is just one of a long, long list of IP addresses used by Shingling in the ranges 92.24.xx.xx, 92.28.xx.xx and 92.29.xx.xx, located in Ipswich. Just from two food-related pages Doner kebab and Gyro (food) during the last month I can pick up 92.29.116.23, 92.24.187.222, 92.28.255.14, 92.24.186.175, 92.28.243.72, 92.28.247.102, all from Ipswich, all making the same type of edits by removing Greek and/or adding Turkish origin, one of the trademarks of Shingling. Another trademark of Shingling was to upload copyvio material to Commons. After being blocked on enWiki but before being blocked on Commons, Shingling continued to upload copivios and used IPsock 92.28.251.68 (in the same familiar range) to put it into an article exactly one minute later: [5]. I am afraid the IPs are too many and too shortlived to do much about. I have, however, added another account to this SPI investigation. Mikethebeast228 has the same structure of the user name as Shingling334 and the known socks Mastereditor332, Editorchampion338 and Mrclever2248, the same passion for removing Greek and/or adding Turkish origin to food: [6], [7], the same interest in Turkish and Northern Cypriot politicians: [8], even copying the somewhat strange behaviour of editing an article and then suddenly blanking large sections of it: Shingling, Mikethebeast228, and the same history of uploading copyvio material: Shingling, Mrclever2248, Mikethebeast228. -- T*U ( talk) 16:03, 25 October 2016 (UTC) reply

Not many edits, but quite revealing nevertheless: Seems to have given up creating Eyeden themselves, like Shingling-socks Editorchampion338 ( talk · contribs), Mikethebeast228 ( talk · contribs), Someguy228 ( talk · contribs), MichaelsPlanet ( talk · contribs) and Dealinglad23 ( talk · contribs), but now instead asking for help to "bring it back". Still does not have a clue as to how templates work, just like Mikethebeast228 ( talk · contribs) here, MichaelsPlanet ( talk · contribs) here and Dealinglad23 ( talk · contribs) here. Moving Anari cheese to Turkish name "Nor cheese" here, just like Shingling334 ( talk · contribs) here and here. And then the usual "Turkification" at Baklava here. This one has gone under the radar for some weeks. User created the day after sockmaster's last unblock request. The not-so-very-inventive username is probably evidence enough, but the usual adding of "Turkish" at Baklava here and Tzatziki here, helped by IP92.29.120.215 from the familiar range, is no less convincing. The rest of the edits are creation and updating of article about Deniz Apaydinli, who is the same person as Eyeden, Eyeden (Musician), Eyeden (musician), Eyeden (Singer) and Eyeden (singer), pages that have been repeatedly deleted for lack of notability. Jamesgolding ( talk · contribs) adds Turkish origin to yoghurt here, is interested in Turkish Cypriot politicians like Mustafa Akıncı and Rauf Denktaş and has the typical Shingling-pattern of first editing an article and then blanking. In addition comes the usual strange use of the help-tag here in the Mesut Özil article, which is one of Shingling's favourites. Also uploading of copyright material to Commons as "own work" here before adding it to article here.

Editorminded22 ( talk · contribs) has few edits, just repeats the uploading and adding of the same picture. The username is also in the Shingling-style.

The IPs are not quite as obvious this time, since they are not in the usual Ipswich 92.24/92.28/92.29 ranges, but they are nevertheless quite revealing. When Shingling was indeffed for socking in August, the IP socks were 212.108.137.140 and 212.108.131.124, located in Mersin, Turkey. The edit summary of one of those IPs here helps explaining the connection between the Ipswich IPs and the Mersin ones. Compare this with the edit summary of one of the current socks here. I was first a bit confused by the 185.24. socks used in between the 212.108. ones, since they seem to geolocate to Britain and Turkey repectively. However, I found this, which connects the two ranges and also gives the connection to Mersin. Needless to say, the IPs show similar editorial pattens as the usual IP socks, including a rather amusing series of template confusion in my talk page.

It seems Shinglings university year in Ipswich may be over, so that we may expect more of the same Mersin IPs popping up during the summer... T*U ( talk) 11:15, 1 June 2017 (UTC) reply

It's been a while, but it looks as if they are back... After typical IP edits by 79.71.232.222 to articles about the Turkishness of food like here and here and about NC politicians like here and the occasional section blanking like here, they created a new account. The new account started by making a number of nonsense edits on random articles in order to become autoconfirmed, just like the earlier sock Editor.TH, then targeting favourite articles like Tzatziki here, followed by blanking. Edits at Taramasalata, Sarma (food) and Timeline of Cypriot history are supplemented by similar edits from the new IP 79.71.226.128 in the same range. The IPs are not in the familiar 92.24., 92.27., 92.28. ranges, but they are still TalkTalk from Essex, so I think we may just assume that Shingling334 has moved since the autumn. Shing's modus operandi involves trying to make everything be Turkish. Is it really likely that a new account, whose actions revolve almost entirely around the idea that the president of a country isn't implicitly a politician, belongs to the same person, especially when only one of those articles has a Turkish connection?   • @ Largoplazo: Shingling has been forced to branch out, since all of his favourite targets have been protected. If you look at recent confirmed Shingling-socks, and IPs geolocating to his area and used by him before, you'll find quite a few of those atypical edits, mixed in with more typical ones. As the IP was repeatedly disrupting the page, Personification123 was created, and then makes the same edit: Special:Diff/865211824/865211885, Special:Diff/865211918/865211986. IP shows typical signs of Shingling334, "everything is Turkish" (especially food): Special:Diff/772723263/863918583; repeating habitual edits of previous socks, eg.: Special:Diff/833424769/848559085, Special:Diff/862813725/863602742, Special:Diff/811013557/811017418; removing "de facto" from Northern Cyprus and other disputed regions: Special:Diff/854179775/864668022. Other special interests and tells that I won't mention in public. Seems obvious but I wanted a second opinion before reverting their edits. Thomas.W, TU-nor, what do you think? I've also reported typical edits from proxies 5.196.91.229 and 213.183.59.80 at WP:OP, and also 146.71.79.150 which has already been blocked.

Fyi, he has also been active recently again on Special:Contributions/92.3.96.0/20 and Special:Contributions/79.71.224.0/19 since blocks have expired on those. Not sure if blocks are necessary, I've just been manually reverting everything obvious there, as there are a couple of other users in the ranges, and also it helps to see connections to the proxy edits. Let me know if I should not be doing that. He seems to be carrying on a bit of a smear campaign against me: [31], [32], [33], [34] (on Commons), [35], etc. I've put a fair amount of time into cleaning up after him, and I want to be sure I'm not doing anything improper or unhelpful. The IP 92.28.59.57 left a message on my talk page notifying me of the SalaamAlaikum account as a Shingling334 sock. Maybe a good hand / bad hand attempt?   • Repeating past edits changing "British" to "English": [74], [75]
  • Edit-warring about Turkish ethnicity: [76] (compare with behaviorally obvious socks editing via proxy: [77], [78], [79], [80]).
  • Special interests in Muslim presidents and kings, and edit-warring over their photos and numbering: [81], [82], etc.
  • Special interests in national origins of food dishes: [83], [84].

I checked the Special:Contributions/92.6.0.0/16 range, and there are a couple of dozen other IPs in the past half a year or so fitting the same patterns, which seem to be all in Special:Contributions/92.6.128.0/17. There are also several in Special:Contributions/92.11.176.0/20.

IP2: Active since 19 November, last edit two days ago. A new ISP for him, EE Mobile, since late August or so (see also Special:Contributions/2.25.78.180 and previously-reported Special:Contributions/2.25.106.235), same geolocation.

@ RoySmith:, sure, I can explain the basis of 38.142.114.2 being a proxy. The edits are stale, it's just to show a diff with past IP socks for evidence of 92.28.48.135 continuing old slow-motion edit wars. 38.142.114.2 is reported as a "high risk proxy connection" by IPQualityScore: [128]. It geolocates to the US, but behaviorally it's an obvious sock of Shingling334. 88.105.189.242 (on the usual Talk Talk, Suffolk) edited Kapsalon and was blocked the same day as a Shingling334 sock. [129] The next day, proxy IP 38.142.114.2 repeated the same edit. [130]

The mix of edits from 38.142.114.2 are also very typical patterns of Shingling334, e.g. editing Suffolk New College, [131], edits about Northern Cyprus, [132] national origin claims for food being Turkish or changing between England/English and UK/British, and a little vandalism thrown in. [133] See these edits repeatedly changing Jamie Oliver's ethnicity by 38.142.114.2: [134], confirmed sock CheesyChips342 [135], and 92.6.246.68, blocked as a Shingling334 sock just last week: [136]. Shingling334 has a long history of (sometimes) using proxies. Normally I would have reported it to WP:OP, I don't remember what happened at the time, but it looks like it was blocked right after the edits back in 2018 and there weren't any more edits since then, so probably I didn't bother, and there's no need to do it now. Adds Turkish flags to food articles against MOS. 2. Changes "Ottoman" to "Turkish". 3. Uses misleading edit-summaries calling his edits as "fixing typos". 4. Both of the users are editing about food, especially Turkish food, which indicates that the two accounts are being controlled by a sockmaster... but not a very good one, as both users' edits practically all are about food. This account has been blocked as a sock of indeffed STAY AT HOME FOR THE NHS ( talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), but is actually not that user, but Shingling334. Maybe doesn't matter that much, but probably a good idea to clarify who was behind this account and its vandalism etc., and remove this unblock request: [138]. Shingling334 has a history of fooling around with claiming to be other users.

There is some crossover because STAY AT HOME FOR THE NHS, who seemed to have a pro-Turkish Cypriot agenda, reinstated several of Shingling334's edits that I had reverted for block evasion. I think they had trawled my edit history, or it's even possible they know each other off-wiki. However, their behavior was quite different than Shingling334, for example, they did not engage in vandalism, and were chatty on talk pages, with a better command of English.

STAY AT HOME FOR THE NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE, on the other hand, shows several typical Shingling334 behaviors such as these: [139] (compare with [140]); [141] (compare with numerous other socks using this template); and making "good" edits then blanking or vandalizing the page: [142], [143] (note that page is a favorite target of Shingling334).
